I booked a make up lesson online at this Clybourn location. In the description it says, "Informative & interactive experience that helps you achieve your best look by providing industry tips & tricks for you to use at home." the time says up to 30 minutes. Someone called me a few hours before to confirm and then said that this was a lesson for one feature such as eyeshadow. I told her I was looking just for somebody to show me how to apply eyeshadow and eyeliner correctly. She said well the service is actually only 15 minutes and if you don't apply it correctly, the first time you likely won't have time to fix it. I asked why is the service only 15 minutes it says 30 when you book? She said it's 15 minutes and then we need 15 minutes to sanitize before the next guest. Confused on why I'm paying for them to sanitize for 15 minutes after I have to do all the make up myself? She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to "wing the eyeliner myself correctly" and nobody's going to do it for me and if I don't "wing it correctly" the first time I'll run out of time. I just think this is false advertising and it's disappointing because I was not looking for somebody to put on a full application of make up. I just wanted them to show me/guide me how to put it on. She acted like that was an inconvenience and that we wouldn't have time to do that. Ultimately Ulta lost my business as I would've likely bought an eyeliner and eyeshadow plus paid for the service. I was very put off by this phone call and will not be shopping there anymore. I will be taking my money elsewhere. read more

I got my eyebrows waxed with benefit brows yesterday (7/13) and was left with burns under my eyebrows. I had gone to this location a few years back and have been elsewhere for services on my eyebrows and have never been left like this. Ulta seems to be doing away with their benefit partnership and I'm not sure they had a brow specialist do them as normal. When I arrived, I went to the benefit section (where I had always previously gotten them done) and I was directed to the back of the store near the salon, where my eyebrows were done with my head in the bowl where they usually wash hair. After the procedure I was not provided with any sanitation or cooling gel and instead they were rubbed with what felt like a dry cloth which made them burn as well. After my appointment, one of my brows looked fine while the other looked botched and shortened by the end, however I still paid and tipped for the service as I hadn't realized my under brow was burned. I would not be writing this review if i was just unhappy at the result. The rest of the day after the service my eyebrows and surrounding area were inflamed and caused excruciating pain at the slightest touch. Even washing my face and using a basic and clean moisturizer caused and is causing intense burning pain. I am not one to write a negative review but I need compensation or something for the pain I am enduring. Worst part, I got them done as I am leaving for vacation in 2 days! Please do not get your brows done here. Felt very unprofessional, shady, and has left me in severe pain. The looks I have been getting walking on the streets have been embarrassing as the two huge burns under my eyebrows look ridiculous. read more

I'm surprised at the negative reviews. I live in the neighborhood and have been going to this Ulta over 3 years. The staff has always been helpful and friendly, this store also has Lancome, Chanel and a lot of the new prestige brands. I went in last week looking for a particular sized perfume, it wasn't on the shelf but one of the ladies offered to double check in back. They had the size I wanted! I was just in Ulta yesterday afternoon & was immediately greeted by the friendly store manager who asked if I needed help with anything. I told her that I was hoping to step up my contour game. She immediately called over to the register & introduced me to Yanira. Yanira was absolutely exceptional! She quickly found a contour stick for me in the perfect color. She didn't stop there. She took the time to show me exactly how to use it & coupled it with the perfect concealer. Yanira was friendly, super knowledgeable, patient & passionate about the products. I so appreciate the time she spent with me & she even ordered the concealer for me to have delivered to my home since the correct color was out of stock in the store. Once I got home, I put her tips to work. My makeup definitely took a big step up from her advice. Yanira is an example of the perfect beauty consultant. She gave me exactly what I needed, showed me how to use it & didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need. I will absolutely be back to this store to see her for more tips. An all round super positive experience! Update: I came back the following week to pick up an online purchase & to find a replacement for a lipstick I love. I decided to look around for a silk hair wrap, and was approached by an older (45+) blonde employee with a short/Bob haircut. She complimented my outfit and then said my bag was cute. She then held my bag with one hand and looked into it. I didn't think anything of the exchange until today when I realized she was checking to see if I was stealing. The only reason I thought of the encounter was because I saw a friend of mine had a similar experience elsewhere. Shame on Ulta for hiring such ignorant people. I have thick curly unruly crazy pretty hair. I have gone through numerous stylists that say they they 'know curly hair' They didn't know mine. I met Mindy in the salon about 5 years ago & I have never looked back;) Not only is she hip & down to earth but does that woman know curly hair!!! She herself has a massive mane of curls to her waist that she herself cuts most of the time but she is the BEST stylist for curly that I have ever used, hands down. If you are unsure of a product, they will gladly demo it on/for you. If you are still on the fence about purchasing it they offer you some pretty generous samples to take home and try out before making any final decisions Visited this location the other day, the staff were very friendly and helpful, something I'm not used to at most Ulta stores. They didn't seem to have a ton of business which is great for me, they had two large clearance sections (awesome!). Loved the prices.I love the variety of beauty products and the team associates are always willing to help with a great attitude; Easy check out and the lady who helped me was really nice! Customer service is incredible. Walked in just before close, and the staff were still the most friendly, helpful and enthusiastic people I have ever encountered at a beauty store. Love this Location , the employees are great,professional, attentive to your needs, they don't follow you around the store , but they are right there if needed. Had a tote bag with me because I knew I would be stopping into Ulta and try to avoid using plastic bags when possible. This is my first time coming to this location and I was running in to grab something for work (I'm a stylist). I parked in a curbside pickup spot accidentally and was immediately accosted by an employee who told me if I wasn't getting a pickup order that I couldn't park there. That's fine, I moved. I got my hair done by Hannah at the salon and she completely destroyed my hair. I understand that not every hair cut/hair color can turn out well, but this was a disaster! I went back in to speak with the manager Pierce and without me even asking, he gave me my money back. He was very apologetic with how Hannah did my hair. I was in tears with how awful it was. Truly a terrible job. If you like your hair, DO NOT get services from Hannah. I had to get my hair fixed at a different salon and even the stylist there was shocked with how awful it was. Don't come to this location unless you look the part. Came in and asked to be assisted with a foundation color match. After the girl named Nathalina put foundation on 1/4 of my face, I kindly asked for makeup remover. She said there were none and I could simply grab tissues and use alcohol to wipe off my makeup. Um. Are you out of your mind? After giving her an "Are you serious?" look she went to get adequate makeup remover pads. But seriously? She couldn't have offered from the beginning to wait a second and then proceeded to get makeup remover instead of telling me I could use the alcohol on my sensitive skin? Then, my shade was not available. Typically at all the other locations, the employees will offer to order it online for me so I can have it shipped to my home. I asked her if she could do that, and her response was 1. She wasn't sure and 2. Sure, but **I** could order it myself. Are you not trained? Even when she asked another coworker, he even looked at her as to say "duh?!" Lastly, I returned to checkout a hairspray bottle by a prestige brand. The cashier then, named Stephanie clearly did look down on me. I didn't have a face full of makeup but my purchases were all high end. Clearly, people pick and choose who they are kind to at this location. This store is trash along with its staff. They follow you around. Are rude and lazy. Not coming back. So sad. I'll stick to giving my loyalty to the Michigan Avenue location where you can walk in looking like a glam queen or your every day casual and still get treated with respect. This review is solely for their salon, although I've bought makeup from their main store and haven't had a single problem. You are going to get a great haircut here for a decent price. I've been to places where I paid $65 for a haircut and they were more interested in turning the chair around and getting a new client in than making sure you're satisfied with your service. I've had Tiffany for haircuts twice, and she is incredibly detail oriented and has an eye for what looks good. Marlene has done the best dynamic highlights I've ever had. The main thing I've liked about Ulta is that they are genuine. For example, I booked full highlights with Marlene, and she talked me through the differences and recommended that with my short hair, I would still have plenty of coverage with partials. She could have gotten more money since I was so oblivious, but instead she was honest with me. Ulta has the best stylists. read more

Yeah no. I went in for a haircut last month. I don't remember the stylist name, I just remember her profile says elite stylist so I booked with her. I asked for long layers and face framing bangs but seem distracted when I told her? Idk. Moving on to the haircut she showed me where she was gonna cut my hair, which was around my mid back. Stopped in to buy a few items and upon check out I was asked for my phone number. I declined to give my phone number. I was told that if I didn't give my number out that I would be unable to return any of the items I purchased and paid for. Not sure why they won't stand by a sale unless you give your personal information up front. Since I had no desire to return anything I told her I would take my chances. Lots of other great shopping close by. There is really no better "one-stop-shop" for all your beauty needs than ULTA. I really think the prices are competitive / fair as well. My favorite is when they run their 20% off your *entire* purchase coupons -that is when I totally go a little crazy and stock up because that is a fantastic deal! They run that promotion about twice a year, usually around Christmas time! I usually save about $20-$30 with this coupon! If they do happen to be out of something, I've used their website, as they always have shipping deals. I got free shipping and the merchandise arrived in about 3 days -pretty fast!
