I booked a last minute appointment because I had to reschedule a photoshoot and they were able to accommodate me easily, doing my hair and makeup in tandem. My makeup artist checked in with me every step of the way. I particularly loved the winged eyeliner and soft glam look I was looking for. Hair was really quick since I just wanted waves. Honestly, zero stars. Horrible experience. I went in for a blowout today, I tried to change my appt to an hour later. There were available appointments online so I called to change it. They told me there were all booked up. Complete lie, the salon was empty. I met my stylist and could tell she had no experience. She didnt wash my hair underneath which was already giving me bad vibes. We moved to the chair and it felt as if she had never held a brush. They truly will hire anyone. She spun me around, my hair was not even fully dry and it was a PUFF BALL with so much volume when I asked for normal volume. Alas, I am going home to wash my hair and do it myself. read more

Curly girls stay away!! Really disappointing experience at this salon. I had my hair braided once with colorful extensions and it turned out great! When I called the first time I let them know I had curly hair and asked for a stylist who was comfortable with my hair type. What I didn't expect was that I would have to specify that every time because some of these stylists have significant limitations. I came back to get my hair braided for the second time and the stylist told me she'd need to straighten it for an extra fee. I asked her why that would be the case. And eventually she explained that she wasn't confident she could braid my hair type (3a/b curls.) I ended up leaving and getting a refund. But this is inexcusable. I shouldn't be told I have to pay extra for a service because the stylist is incapable of doing my natural hair. I had planned on getting these done for vacation and now I won't have time before my trip. read more

I am going to be outright and say that I found the beauty services here really good. I tipped accordingly at 25% to both the hair stylist and makeup artist. But, sadly, I would most likely not return. As someone in client services myself (I'm an attorney), I know exactly how important it is to treat people with respect, and the owner left a lot to be desired. While she (Mal) was pleasant *enough* to me and other clients, she was outright rude to her employees, which gave me the major ick. I witnessed 3-4 such encounters before feeling like I had enough information to make the judgment call. I very rarely leave comments (especially ones of this nature), but it was so obvious to me that I felt compelled to post this. I am watching how you treat everyone, not just me. I hope this is seen and received and that there is concerted effort to act more appropriately to your staff, who do great work and deserve it! Good luck! read more

I came here for a quick blowout before a wedding. It is a BEAUTIFUL new (?) shop with ample street parking. It took a full hour for my long, thick, curly hair, but it came with a wash and some extra product for anti-frizz since we were going to be outdoors! I love to stretch my blowout for as long as possible, so I didn't wash my hair for a week.... It held great! I would gladly return for any big event or just because! As I was paying for my service after my appointment I mentioned to the woman that I struggle to find a stylist that works well with curly hair as I am Jewish and curly hair runs in the family. When I mentioned that I was a Jewish woman I felt as if the woman stopped trying to continue the conversation with me, changed her facial expression and made a bit of a scoff noise. I immediately felt incredibly self conscious because it felt like that she changed her entire demeanor when I mentioned I was Jewish. I felt judged and that she thought she was above me. I've rarely run into anti semitism as a Jewish woman but this was an extremely obvious reaction. The service wasn't wonderful to begin with, but was still willing to continue to come back, until she made such a negative reaction at my mention of being Jewish. I felt extremely uncomfortable and judged and will absolutely not be returning. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Goldplaited. They really saved my day. I had a family wedding to attend that day. My friend was going to do my hair and makeup. She ended up not feeling well and had to cancel the night before. So I got busy scrambling for places to go to get my hair and makeup done. I scheduled an online appointment with DryBar for my hair, but was unsuccessful with where to go for my makeup. The following morning I had my hair appointment at DryBar. It turned out okay at best. Nothing better than what I could have done myself. So I left DryBar desperately searching for someplace to get my makeup done. Lucky for me I remembered Goldplaited wasn't far and thought I will take a chance and see if someone will be available to do my makeup. So I drove up the road, found parking and went in. I walked in and explained my situation. Well they could not have been more accommodating. Not only did they do a beautiful makeup application, they fixed my hair. Mel who greeted me so kindly, sensed my panic and set everything up within minutes. Next thing I was sitting in a makeup chair and introduced to Becky. She was awesome! She asked every question about how I wanted everything on my face to look. My makeup was flawless and she redid my hair, which never looked better! I had a great time when I was there - they were kind enough to also fit me in for hair when I had originally only booked for makeup, but then I woke up the next day and my face was totally swollen. To this day I still don't know what in the makeup application went wrong but I have never had my face swell up like that and then a few days later my face started peeling like crazy and I ended up at the dermatologist. All of this was fairly easily resolved, all things considered, and my face is back to normal, however I called the salon to warn them that something was going BADLY and was promised a call back from a manager/potential refund but never heard back again. I feel like my problem was swept under the rug a bit which is leading me to write this review. I don't want others skin to end up the same way! read more

I booked hair and makeup for my birthday. My husband took me to a fancy restaurant on the river walk and I wanted professional hair and makeup done for pictures. It was easy enough to find and not far from my home in Edgewater. The salon is rather small and did not have hooks for my brand new name brand purse. So I had to set it on the floor. The staff was friendly and got me started right away. They did my updo first which came out beautifully. I got lots of compliments on it. The makeup on the other hand was very disappointing. I may have chosen to smokey of an eye but I walked out looking like I had two black eyes. The coverage on the foundation and concealer was awful. I had a tiny zit on my chin that she made no effort to cover. I went home and washed the makeup off and redid it myself. I wouldn't call the makeup professional. For $280 I should of walked out of there ready for a flawless photo shoot. They make their own cosmetics and are not friendly for mature skin. It all settled into my creases and wrinkles and looked cracked and dull. I wouldn't recommend them for makeup, particularly for woman 40 and up. They should of never allowed me to leave with it looking so bad, but I was happy with the hair. I'll be going to City lights and just pay the $50 more next time I want professional makeup done. read more

This was not a great experience. I booked two appointments so my mom and I could get blow outs together, and after my hair got washed I had to wait about 15 minutes before someone even started to dry my hair. I didn't even get an actual blow out, my hair was dried messy and the woman used a flat iron to give me tight curls when I specifically asked for loose waves with volume. I am disappointed I paid for something I could have honestly done better myself. The only reason for leaving 2 stars because my moms hair actually looks cute. read more

I don't know much about makeup, so she kept the lesson basic so that I could understand the ideas/concepts and was patient when showing me how to apply it. She also sent some information after the class and was responsive to a follow up email I had as well. I highly recommend classes there with Andrea, and once I have some practice under my belt, maybe taking another one to learn a bit more! read more

This was my first time here. They asked me what my natural hair looks like and what I wanted prior to my appointment! I cannot recall my stylist's name but they have curly red/orange hair. It was a great experience!!! The space is absolutely lovely and clean with AMAZING lighting. For once I didn't hate how I looked in the mirror. No fluorescents. My stylist was patient and curated a fun appointment. I showed her exactly what I wanted and it was perfected. I had an updo (kept long) for a wedding and received compliments all night. I had brought my own ear guards and my stylist was gentle and reassuring that I am in good hands. My hair is naturally curly and you wouldn't even be able to tell with how well she did my styling. My hair is so soft and shiny!!!! Going to a new place is daunting but it was truly the best! I would definitely think about leaving my hair cutter (who was fully booked that day) to come here....
