This was such a bad and weird experience. First of all there is no front desk person so I was just randomly waiting outside for 10 minutes until someone unlocked the door 45 seconds before my appointment was supposed to start. They had a number you could text but they never responded. The woman who opened the door had literally no pleasantries and told me to change into slippers and then took me to the room. I'm sorry for $150 an hour I'm expecting some nice service. The massage itself was actually horrible. I got lymphatic and the woman barely touched my body. I told her my stomach was where I wanted to focus and she spent all of 5 minutes on it. I left (and still feel) more puffy and bloated then when I went in. I spent the entire hour trying to figure out how I could leave. This was so crazy expensive for nothing and the actual space is so bare bones. Price of this should have been half. read more

I've been going to Oxygen Spa since their old location but hadn't been in a long time since they moved to their new location. I'm so happy to have rediscovered them. Just had a massage with Ana. I believe this may be one of the best massages I've ever had! I workout a lot and my body has been very tight and somehow Ana managed to figure out how to untangle everything. She used deep tissue techniques that my person at my other place doesn't use but clearly she knew was what I needed and this worked really well. I can't thank her enough. My adorable husband got me a very generous gift card for this spa, so I had the privilege of having my choice of a couple services to choose from. I picked a facial from their vast menu as well as a shoulder/neck/scalp stimulation. The facial was the standout! Very knowledgeable and very relaxing. Would absolutely book again. The massage was pretty intense, I wish I would have asked to start out with the scalp stimulation rather than the shoulder massage. Came to Oxygen Spa Studio for the first time and it was just what I needed. I discovered them through Classpass & booked a 60 minute swedish massage a few days in advance. Check in was short & sweet. My masseuse Ana welcomed me when I arrived, pointed out the provided slippers, and have me a short 1 pager to complete. I was able to point out my problem area and disclose any (health) concerns as well. The room was dim with peaceful music playing. The amenities were a little dated (home-y?) but clean and everything had a pleasant aroma. Overall warm and inviting environment as opposed to the modern/sterile aesthetic. My massage was the perfect pressure and Ana even snuck in some deep tissue massage for my neck before she felt how tender I was. Left feeling like a brand new person. Fyi, there are signs displayed stating expected 15-20% gratuity so keep that in mind. The full value of the Swedish massage is $109. Gratuity could be accepted cash, Venmo, or by card. I got an awesome deal on Black Friday for a sixty minute massage at Oxygen Spa Studio. They have a cute little waiting room when you get there. The massage room was dimly lit with light music playing and the perfect temperature. My masseuse was super friendly and great at what she did. The perfect amount of pressure and just a very relaxing massage. They have showers in the massage rooms if you'd like to clean off afterwards. This place is extremely decent for the value (on Groupon). They have free dried fruits and nuts in the waiting room, which, hey, that's already a few stars for me lol. Also when you walk in they immediately give you some water and some cloth slippers. These slippers look used but I don't think they are- they just look off white or like they've been laundered and are a little worse for wear. Oh well. The young man checking us in is really friendly. I got my massage by another young massage therapist who was very good using the right amount of pressure. He did the back and then the arms shoulders and legs. The only complaint is his music choice was all rap and strangely not relaxing. It kinda hyped me up actually. He said he chooses non spa music because he doesn't want all his clients to fall asleep. Afterward I get to shower there in the same room. However it's awkward because they have lotions and soaps and shampoo but nothing is labeled so you're fumbling around smelling bottles. Trying to make an appointment here was problematic. I had a Groupon to use and when calling I found out that the hours that Groupon has on their site are different than that of the salon. Once finally getting in contact with someone and booking the appointment, I walked into the salon and noticed that it was rather dirty and crowded. The staff person provided a pair of slippers to put on but they were very dirty and looked like they had been used for quite some time. The person scheduling the appointments was taking calls in the "lobby" area and seemed to be overwhelmed. Overall the cleanliness of the spa was not very good and the massage therapist's hands were very dry and rough. She only applied lotion three times during a 75-minute massage. TRUTH OR DARE!? You know that moment when you are on a massage table and you are faced with a difficult proposition: you have voiced to the therapist your "hot spot" and now, she is going after it. She is digging down beneath the muscles, beneath the fibers that hold your clavicle to your neck, with a claw-like vise of a device which a moment ago was just her hand. You feel a slight heat, then it fades and sinews start relaxing to embrace this pincher, she fastens on a little deeper. You are getting the meat-hook treatment and, at any moment, are ready to be strung up to the rafters in this generous-ceilinged space...as the hook goes even deeper. You sort of begin seeing yourself up there, swinging around as this ? possibly "good" discomfort starts throwing stars before your eyes... You've been in this position before and you know that this is make or break: either this move is gonna kill you or it's gonna be a healer. Just at that moment, you have a choice.... TRUTH? "WHHHOOOOAA wait STOP!" I've let someone root around and been waaaay worse off in the past - so just get your claw out of there! or DARE? Go ahead. Dig it. Claw-hold it. Who cares if I won't be able to move my neck for a month. This may just be the release that works. I'm going for it!! I took the Dare! I let Maria do that claw and immediately felt something in there finally release itself. The effects of this lasted more than a week, with no residual discomfort. She found the hot spot and worked it. Each individual has to determine for herself if she trusts a therapist to work a zone - I thought Maria did well overall with my body and I was relaxed enough to allow this deep technique. I've been very pleased with my experiences at Oxygen. Massage is so much more than just "feel good" - a knowledgeable therapist can work wonders for movement/flexibility etc. and Maria is just such a therapist. She is also part owner of the facility and wants to make sure that you have a good experience. The space is clean and soothing - though the waiting room is a bit tight - I'm not there to wait long (never have.) There's always a light snack available & slippers offered. The rooms have always been nicely temperature controlled and there's a shower and mirror/vanity for post-treatment primping. My girlfriend purchased a couple's massage for us and scheduled it on a day after I got back from a grueling week away for work. This in and of itself was magical and amazing, but the massage from Maria that followed was so magical I felt like there was some Game of Thrones type shit going on. I told Maria my shoulders and neck were aching from days of walking with a heavy bag during a trade show. She lit up; "My specialty is the shoulder area." And wooooweee she was not joking. I don't like light massages. I want fingers and palms and knuckles and elbows digging into my sore spots and working the muscles. Maria did this. She went above every expectation I had and I walked away drunk with relaxation. My girlfriend had the same experience, on the table next to me, and was tailored to by her massage therapist exactly where she needed it. We both agreed these were the best massages we'd ever had in the city of Chicago. Yelpers, don't expect a mega salon or spa when you approach Oxygen. It's a small, cozy space with a dedicated team. I'm not one of those girls who needs a sauna after or a big fluffy robe and lemon water while I wait. If I have my own space, strong hands and dim lighting with some relaxation tunes, I'm good to go. Oxygen has small, private rooms, each fitted with an iPad that plays music. I came in with a very tight, painful back situation after moving and starting a desk job. I needed someone to work the knots out, not just a relaxing massage. Van did just that. I wanted a deep tissue massage to really address my underlying pain. He dug in with lots of pressure, trying to loosen me up. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if it's more of a chronic pain that needs to be addressed, I recommend this place. So this is a tricky review as this place is really more of a studio as opposed to a Spa in the traditional sense. You arrive and it's a very small wait area -- part of their "comfort" routine is to give you some cotton slippers and offer you a glass of water. The bathrooms are awkwardly placed and the decor is wonky.. but alas.. let's talk about the massage.. I was escorted to my room which was a converted bedroom and bathroom (literally, the table was in the middle, with the shower behind the table and sink to the left. It was quaintly decorated with dim lights and makeshift music. My masseuse was a sweetheart and made sure that I was okay with the set-up. The actual massage was an okay+ with quite a few adjustments (which is what the loss of the star was for). I usually expect to give a masseuse minimal guidance and then they are set with constant pressure throughout the experience. In this case, I would have to adjust her for each quadrant, but she was highly receptive which one has to appreciate. The other thing to note was that I felt like she did not evenly distribute or manage her time across the experience. For example, she spent maybe 20 minutes on one shoulder and like 10 on the other.. it was that noticeable. Maybe her rationale was that I didn't need as much work on the other side, BUT she said that my shoulderS were tight.. oh well. So in short, I would consider going back if I had another deal and I wanted to hit the body without the "relaxing" prep experience.. I mean you get what you pay for and they do the work. read more

Just had such a relaxing yet appropriately intense Swedish massage at Oxygen Spa Studio. My first time there - I bought the "deal" on Amazon (randomly, off of my Kindle). Obviously I was way overdue for a massage, and this hit the spot -- or, many spots, so to say. The guy who greeted me was super-friendly and nice, offered me yummy tea, and the waiting room was calming and simple. I like the natural wood table/wall hanging. Robin was my massage therapist and created an awesome, super-moisture-rich cream, and as I like, fragrance-free (I'm sure they can add fragrance if you like). My skin feels so soft now. I'm usually anti-face/head massage, but I was so relaxed I just went with it at the end, and the lotion on my cheeks, temples, neck, head felt amazing. My back was so full of tension, and she said she could have spent an hour on my shoulders alone (note to self: get massages more often), but she worked out a lot of kinks and was pleasant to chat with (yes, I am a chatter by choice). Anyway -- I'll be looking for more deals here, and I'll definitely be back, even though it's not in my neighborhood. Parking was really easy (at least today, Saturday) and compared to the other spas I've been to here (Lincoln Park Massage Spa & Aveda on Damen), I like the feel here better. So, yay. You should go. Best massage in years. Go. Now. I bought a 75 minute massage on Travelzoo, but it was totally worth the full price. I had Joan, who absolutely knew how to release my muscles. I left feeling like I had melted into the floor. It was awesome. I normally don't really like work done on my quads -- Joan knew how to hit all the achy spots I didn't even realize were tight and achy. The space isn't fabulous, but it's good, clean, and friendly. But here I am, posting a five-star review, as I told James, the owner, yesterday. This was probably the best massage I have gotten in the past couple of years. My therapist was Maria and she really knew and was able to deal with all my trouble spots and muscles with surgical precision. No kidding. I would say the price is set on the high end, and it definitely is at the same level as those fancy spas in the loop or the mag mile areas. So I must say, at first, I was a bit hesitated of giving them a try. After all, the rent in the west loop should not be as expensive as the loop and the mag mile. But again, I think I got what I paid for, the skills of Oxygen's therapists. So, that's good, and also the key. I don't think all the fancy spas in the loop and the mag mile will all have great therapists and have all the good reviews to back them up. To be fair, Oxygen can be one of those shady and overpriced one. However, I'm lucky that it is not. The reason I gave them a try was that, the easiness of parking in west loop with respect to both cost of private lot and time to find a meter spot. The Sugar Scrub with Massage is awesome! The full-price is justifiably appropriate -- more than just a scrub. Maria starts with dry brushing the skin from palm. Sugar is strategically placed that is followed by warm water to start rubbing skin with sugar. The method and sectional scrubbing is relaxing. Maria has great attention to details. Scrubbing places I didn't think of scrubbing at home. After being marinated in sugar, I was ready to be heated by being wrapped in plastic and towel. Just enough natural body heat to open the pores and absorb the sugar nutrients. The Chia Body Butter is a wonderful alternative to scentaholic ineffective lotions/creams. My skin is soft, supple but not oily. read more

I live for good food, working-out, and a great massage. I have been to Oxygen Spa twice now and both times extremely enjoyed my massage. I got a couples massage with my best friend the first time. I just came back from a 90 minute hot stone massage. This was my first hot stone massage and I am truly a fan. It is the perfect cure to a cold April day. The constant between both massages were great masseuses who knew what they were doing. I just had Maria and she was a real masseuse. She knew how to use pressure and really worked at my knots and tense areas. Oxygen Spa doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some spas. There is no meditation room or fancy changing room. However, they provide what most of us are looking for, a nice clean calming space with phenomenal massages. read more

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is different, just more relaxing. Just as everyone else stated, when you walk in, they bring you slippers and offer you tea (which was really good, but I didn't get to finish it). It was my first hot stone massage and my massage therapist was Maria. She was awesome. I don't know what she did, but she did something to my neck and arms that felt so good, I had tingles down my body. My main problem area is my back and shoulders. I could feel her working out the knots in my back and shoulders and it was perfect, not too rough, not too soft. The massage was just what I needed, it was relaxing and calming and I felt great afterword. In fact, last night, after my massage, I had the best nights sleep I've had in weeks. I found out about Oxygen through Bloomspot- they had a great deal a while back and since this place is walking distance from work, I bought it. I had a very good experience here. Parking was a breeze- you can park in the Giordano's lot for $5. James, the owner, was there to welcome me as soon as I walked in, offer slippers and brew fresh yummy tea. There is no formal reception area, which surprisingly works. The space itself is beautiful. They combined industrial elements of the building with gorgeous woodwork, creating an atmosphere equivalent to a breath of fresh air. The massage rooms were clean and well-appointed (some have showers). My massage was with Robin and I received a 90-minute hot stone massage. This was probably one of the best massages I have gotten. She really listened to my pressure preferences and trouble spots and definitely focused on areas that were especially tense. I definitely recommend Oxygen. Although the original appointment was canceled, the staff was very prompt and accommodating with relaying the message and getting me rescheduled. A much later appointment pushed back other plans, but everything worked itself out. William and Rocio were absolutely wonderful! They were very professional and engaging the whole time. I am kind of sensitive to massages, but William made sure that he understood the areas to be gentle and the areas to apply pressure. Cozy and tucked away in the West Loop, I just went here for an Aromatherapy massage and scalp stimulation. They offer tea and dried fruit as soon as you sit down. There is no front desk check in so there was nothing to be intimidated about. They give you a nice pair of cozy slippers to wear too which was a nice bonus. On to the massage, my appointment was with Daniel. He applied just the right pressure for me. I had indicated that I wanted medium/firm on my waiver and I never had to ask him to change anything. The room is small, and the music was very relaxing. The oils used were very soothing and calming. The techniques used by Daniel are great. He knew exactly where all my tension was and went to work. The scalp stimulation was great too. I knew less what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. After this, I feel increased blood flow and energy. This is a great add on for extra relaxation. After my appointment, Daniel discussed with me further options for my chronic back tension. He was extremely thorough, friendly, and knowledgeable. Everything about this place is positive and relaxing. I have already made another appointment for next month. I purchased the Groupon because it was a maternity massage and my body was yelling at me to get one. I called James and he was very accommodating -- getting me an appointment on a Sunday morning. I liked that. Maria was my massage therapist and she explained all the things she was going to do in advance so I wouldn't be weirded out - ie she would be massaging some less common areas and didn't want me to be surprised. She asked if I wanted my belly massaged, which I declined. She has a lot of power (my muscles were screaming on some of the pressure that she had in her.) She accommodated the pressure when I couldn't handle it. She was very nice and sweet. NOTE: This was my first prenatal massage (I am 5.5 months pregnant) - and I don't know if my body went into shock but I had a severe headache and some muscle aches in my lower back afterward, which required a heating pad to calm down. I'm not sure what happened but the headache didn't go away until the following morning when I woke up but I haven't had any issues since then. The one thing that surprised me that they didn't have a pregnancy bed (the one with a hole cut out of the middle for expectant mother's to lay flat on their stomachs -- a luxury we don't get to have these days!) I was really looking forward to someone massaging my entire back/body at the same time. Instead, half of my body was massaged while the other half was massaged a half hour later.
