I purchased the Groupon because it was a maternity massage and my body was yelling at me to get one. I called James and he was very accommodating -- getting me an appointment on a Sunday morning. I liked that. Maria was my massage therapist and she explained all the things she was going to do in advance so I wouldn't be weirded out - ie she would be massaging some less common areas and didn't want me to be surprised. She asked if I wanted my belly massaged, which I declined. She has a lot of power (my muscles were screaming on some of the pressure that she had in her.) She accommodated the pressure when I couldn't handle it. She was very nice and sweet. NOTE: This was my first prenatal massage (I am 5.5 months pregnant) - and I don't know if my body went into shock but I had a severe headache and some muscle aches in my lower back afterward, which required a heating pad to calm down. I'm not sure what happened but the headache didn't go away until the following morning when I woke up but I haven't had any issues since then. The one thing that surprised me that they didn't have a pregnancy bed (the one with a hole cut out of the middle for expectant mother's to lay flat on their stomachs -- a luxury we don't get to have these days!) I was really looking forward to someone massaging my entire back/body at the same time. Instead, half of my body was massaged while the other half was massaged a half hour later. I really like the decor of this place. It has a clean, natural minimalist look. The front room was very cozy, more like someone's living room than a reception area. All the staff that I came in contact with was very friendly and accommodating. They have really good tea here. My massage therapist was Jennifer. She gave a great deep tissue massage. She spent the whole hour on my back and really worked on the knots in my upper back. She also gave me some homework to help with my problems and told me about a device that I can use for the spinal problems I have in my lower back. Somebody said she's the weakest massage therapist ever? There are either multiple Jennifers here or they're crazy. I had to take off the fifth star though because of the noise level. I came in on a busy Saturday and it was a little on the outrageous side, especially the people that live upstairs. I don't know if it's always like that or if the upstairs natives were especially restless but it killed the otherwise relaxing atmosphere. There were so many different things going on during my massage that I will just list each one rather than go into detail: Noises from the Spa: I could hear music from the other rooms mixing with what was in mine, other therapists talking and laughing with their clients, water being poured in the hall, heavy walking in the hall. I could have coaxed myself into blocking all of this out, but it was the people upstairs that really killed it. Noises from Upstairs Residents: Dog barking loudly, some little boy screaming, someone doing their laundry, people running up steps, some guy screaming into his phone while dropping 'F' bombs, then screaming at some lady in the room with him who then screamed back. The only thing missing was the marching band. The massage bed could have been dragged out onto the street for the same noise level. I actually almost started laughing. I've gotten massages in places with no walls dividing the rooms that were quieter. I don't see a lot of reviews like this so maybe I just came on a bad day but I'm not sure. I had a hot stone massage at the Oxygen. The experience was as good as it gets. I got a deal through the Bloomspot, booked a service over the phone, and immediately received a confirmation and a nice welcoming e-mail. Inside the spa is just zen heaven - quiet harmony, great light, plush massage tables, and great service! I was greeted by the staff and one of the owners in the waiting area, and immediately offered tea and slippers. Hot stones and great touch (very thorough, gentle, but firm, by Eric) melted away my holiday stress. By the end of the massage (almost 1,5 hour - great deal!) Best place in the city by FAR for a deep tissue! I walked into Oxygen on a Wednesday afternoon, the lobby area is nice and bright, decor is lovely and serene. I also liked that you had to get buzzed in, nice sense of security. Like posts before me have said, there's no front desk, so don't be taken aback by that! I received a warm greeting and put on some comfy (yet could use some washing), slippers and waited for Maria. The tea was really tasty, too. If the lobby area was just a tad larger I think I would feel even more at ease. If there's more that 4 people there it can get a tad crowded. Now on to the massage. Maria is amazing. Oxygen has found a gem in her. I came in for my deep tissue massage a bit apprehensive because previous ones I've had have either nearly made me cry, or the masseur just "stretched" me. But Maria has a brilliance of mixing digging deep into the muscles while maintaining a relaxing, fluid motion. I told her since I was a softball pitcher in college, my right shoulder/neck is all kinds of messed up. Man, she went to work. Some parts I cringed but then after some repetition I started to ease into the deep touch. Still, any deep tissue is not for the faint of heart. I felt my muscles pop and move all around like no one has done before! She worked every part of me, down to my toes, my fingers, arms, and even my face and head. I guess she could hear my sniffle from my allergies because she did a nice nasal passage massage, haha! Overall, I left feeling relaxed, less tense, and wanting more! It's only a few hours after and I can feel I'll be sore tomorrow! Maria showed me some great stretches to incorporated into my daily routine and talked to me about packages and memberships. She really seemed like she cares about her clients and wasn't just trying to get me back in for my money, she really wanted to help me. I loved that. I had a wonderful experience here back in March when I bought a Yelp deal. Great staff, great facility. I am way overdue for another appointment. Maria was my therapist and after my session she walked me through a few stretches to do at work to prevent back and neck strain, because I sit in front of a computer all day. Also - just walking into that place, taking off my shoes and having some tea before my session was a great way to decompress after hustling over from work. Normally I like to try spas with more amenities like a sauna or hot tub, and I almost did not want to try Oxygen because of its size and lack of the extras. It's pretty much just in and out but let me tell you; I've never been to a spa where I felt that I had to recommend to someone or re-visit again. Rocio was amazing. Her timing was on spot and almost had a rhythm to her work. From my back, shoulders, legs, feet, and back up to my scalp it was perfect. If I go in again I'd have to request Rocio. Love it. I was a little apprehensive at first because I bought a living social deal. sometimes with those deals the service isn't that great, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Jackie was my therapist and she is just wonderful. She is super sweet, has a good energy about her, and gives a great massage, and I have had many so I can truly say that her massage is solid. I did a deep tissue and it really relieved my tension. I have been there three times. Twice with Jackie. The third time I took my dad and Jackie worked on him and he loved it too. He said he could feel a lot of his lower back tension relieved. I went with Shannon, who is amazing too! She has a lot of experience. First let me say that I am sooo relaxed that I can barely stand it!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE. And will definitely be back. I've experienced some really nice spa's and this one would be considered a 4 star. The Sugar Scrub was great and the final massage was "off the chain". lol... It is rather "intimate" but I was ok with that. I mean, the price point is great and as long as the service is good...I will continue to come back I would however like to make two suggestions (this is why no 5 stars) - during the scrub I recommend the therapist take off her shoes and wear socks. That walking on the plastic was really disturbing and made it somewhat challenging to relax. Also, they may want to consider putting carpet in the hallway, that would stop the echoing of foot-steps coming down the hall. That was a little annoying too only because the spa is kinda small. Other than that....this is my NEW relaxation spot in Chicago. I'm made myself a promise to go at least once every few months to Oxygen. read more

I went on an especially cold day, so maybe that's part of the issue, but I had a constant chill throughout my entire massage. There was a space heater in the room, but it didn't seem to help. I am typically a hot person, and find I get too hot during massages - not here! My facial was relaxing, but really just felt like a glorified face wash. I waited about 48 hours before I washed my face again (bad, I know) and when I did my own daily face wash must have had a reaction with the products used during my facial because my face burned and was completely red and chapped for the next couple days. I might suggest doing a good wash with water/rag before using another product. I booked online well in advance (love online booking!) and kind of forgot the specifics of my services. Turns out I was being charged for a 90 min massage (that I booked) rather than the 60 min (which I got). I only found this out by chance when I was asking what the separate service costs were so I could tip accordingly, and the person then said, "we were wondering if it was supposed to be 90 or 60...." - so they were going to go ahead and charge me for 90 when I only got 60 :( read more

My husband and I went to Oxygen two weeks ago for an hour long couples massage with Rocio and Jackie - it was the best massage experience either of us have ever had. Both of us were so impressed with our massage therapists; they were true professionals with a great knowledge of how the integumentary system often reflects what is happening within the muscular, circulatory, and skeletal systems and offered many at home exercises and tips for improving our overall health. The atmosphere at Oxygen was clean, fresh, and quiet from the moment you walked in and continued throughout the massage. The entire staff was friendly and inviting from the greeter to the therapists. I almost didn't want to write a review for this place cuz i thought...it's going to be harder to get an appointment if more people know about this place! then i woke up from my fantasy world in which i regularly get massages. i was feeling madly stressed out and with major knots in my shoulders, and luckily was able to get a same-day appointment here for a deep-tissue massage, AND it was through a yelp deal. they have a great online booking system that takes same-day reservations. of course i was running late, but managed to get there on time. the address is 400 green, and i saw a big 400 in an archway of a building, so i walk up there and scroll through the names on the buzzer box, passed the "o"s, and start to get nervous. went back to look at the building front, and see the big "Oxygen Spa" sign on the window with arrows leading me a few steps to the left. duh. so now you know where to go. james, one of the owners, greeted me in the "greeting room" area..not sure what else to call it. there was no reception desk, just a couch, chairs, a table and an Ipad. he brought me slippers to change into, and also a cup of delicious hot tea. Maria was the massage therapist and in the room, she briefly went over her plan (usually 25-30 min facedown, then up, end w/face massage, asking me if i have problem areas etc). it was nice to know what to expect, so that i could tell her ahead of time that i don't care for face massage and where my problem areas are. there was a fancy shower in the room, so i think they probably do body scrubs too. as for the massage itself, wow...good thing for those face cradle covers cuz i'm pretty sure i drooled. my shoulder knots were no match for her magic hands/elbows/arms. it was a combination of firm/deep pressure and knowing exactly where and how to apply it. wow. i later found out that she is also one of the owners, so i felt special...like if i was at a fancy restaurant and the head chef personally cooked my meal. silly? probably. but it also makes me glad, since it probably means that she wouldn't leave for another spa. Anyways, enough of my rambling. If you have issues from being hunched over a desk or anything like that, but also want to relax, definitely give this place a try. they offer $5 validated parking in the giordano's lot around the corner, but i was able to find free street parking a couple of blocks away. random tip, if you have time to make a mini-day out of this, go to a yoga class before the massage (i recommend core-power yoga nearby in the south loop)...a good stretch before a massage was great! I bought a groupon for my mom and I to get a body scrub and my little sister decided to get the same deal. The three of us made an appointment for before my vacation and I was a little worried because my mom has never had a scrub or a massage or anything like that. The space is as other reviewers noted, a little bit of a hole in the wall. The waiting area is cute, but extremely tight and they gave you slippers and took your coat, but it wasn't as if there was space to stretch out and relax. The rooms are all very tightly packed and do not provide good sound proofing at all, which is a key to relaxing during a massage. The other thing is that the floor creaks, so whenever my masseuse would move around the table I heard the creaking of the floor and it sounded like she was stomping on the floor, although I knew she was treading as lightly as possible. However, in spite of the atmosphere being less than ideal for a spa, my body scrub was everything. Shannon spent extra time making sure to hit my dry skin areas, and she also left a little bit of scrub for me to use before showering on the more private areas she didn't get to. She also gave me a little bit of a massage while putting on the lotion after the scrub and hit my tense shoulder and back area. I like a hard, sports massage and Shannon was able to continually apply a lot of pressure throughout, which was perfectly suited for me. My mom and my sister loved the experience and for $60 for 90-minutes it was a great deal regardless of the issues with the atmosphere. Before we left the ladies who worked on us showed us the products they used and how to use them at home if we chose to buy them. We also had the opportunity to buy another 90-minute scrub for the same price if we prepaid. All 3 of us decided to get another one, so I suppose that's the best endorsement of all. Honestly, I'm just hoping they'll move to a space that is more appropriately set up for a spa and then I can give them 5 stars. read more

Location of the studio is at the south end of Green Street. Inside is small but clean, welcoming, and calming. I chose the 60 minute Swedish massage since this was my first time for a professional massage and it was with Rocio. She was very welcoming and explained everything that she would be doing. She concentrated on my legs as I had mentioned it was the most tense part of my body because I walk and stand 12 hours a day at work. And she did just that. The hour definitely went by fast and I was very relaxed at the end. Checking out and paying was a breeze as the receptionist was already prepared to ring me up once I got myself together. The "studio" is cute enough, a bit small, but functional. It's a bit confusing when you first enter since there was no formal reception area. An employee came out and greeted me and sat down in the waiting area to check me in; a process that was quick and easy. When I made the reservation online, I only had Daisy as an option, so I went with it. Unfortunately, this experience taught me to research, research, and oh yeah, definitely do more research. The massage started off well for, maybe, 10 seconds, until her hands started getting clammy. Maybe I made her nervous, maybe it's genetic, but my back got uncomfortably wet with someone else's hand juice really quickly and for the rest of the hour. I was involuntarily shivering at some points of the massage; was it because of the ick factor or the added layer of moisture on my skin? Who knows. Unfortunately, I don't remember too much of the massage outside of the clamminess. I'm sincerely hoping it was an off day for her and that everyone else had better experiences. The entryway had a lovely lemon tree that was flowering, I was offered some hot tea and slippers upon arrival, and only waited a short time before my appointment began. I had the 60 minute Aromatherapy massage -- and as far as this being my first massage experience ever, it was a fantastic way to start. The room was very tastefully decorated with some soothing music going the whole time and dim lighting. I was relaxed enough I nearly fell asleep on the massage table by the end... Maria was great and even was very responsive to any thing such as a change in pressure. She also offered suggestions at the end of my experience, saying that my shoulders and back were particularly knotted up and that she thought it would be a good idea to come back and focus on just that area for a session. Maria is a wonderful massage therapist. She is very intuitive of what areas of your body need worked on. I have been having back tension and she really worked to get all my knots and whatnot worked out. Maria's pressure was great. I like my massages to not be fluffy and soft. My fiance and I went here last Sunday for a couple's massage (our first time getting a massage ever). The place is small but very cozy. Currently, there is some construction work going on on the street that the spa is on, so the street itself is closed but the sidewalk that leads up to the spa is definitely open.The person who greeted us quickly made us fill out a form to know more about what kind of massage (pressure type, any soreness etc) and were immediately ready for our massage. The couple's massage room was a little small and the masseurs had trouble moving around when working on both of us but the atmosphere was very relaxing, so we could have cared less. The music was soothing (mostly Oriental music which we liked) and very relaxing. The massage beds were warm and clean, which is something I really appreciated. My massage was fantastic and my fiance was very satisfied too with her massage. The payment for the massage is accepted after your massage and tips are graciously accepted for the masseurs. Another good thing I would like to point out is that the masseurs spent about five minutes after the massage to talk to us and give us tips on how to handle soreness after listening to us talk about it first. That constitutes to an A+ experience for me. The only feedback I would offer, is to include some scented candles or something similar in the room that could have exemplified the already soothing experience. I do understand that we never signed up for the aromatherapy session so expecting scented candles is a little too much. I am a huge fan of Oxygen Spa Studio. I've had some disappointing massage experiences elsewhere, so I was thrilled to find this place. I've been to Maria many times, and she is fantastic. She has a great demeanor and gives a wonderful deep tissue massage. I also saw Chrishenda recently for some help with hip issues in particular, and she was amazing, as well. Everyone there is friendly and helpful, and I always leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I highly recommend checking out Oxygen Spa Studio. I am a UIC student, studying biochemistry. Since it's my third year, dealing with hard classes has made my shoulders and neck muscles (or should I say my trapezius) very tense. My roommate actually recommended this place, so I had high expectations from the beginning. The guy who greeted me was super nice, and he offered to take my coat, then offered me some hot tea. Then you fill out this form that asks for specific areas you want the therapist to work on. Not even 5 minutes after arrival, Maria (the female therapist) took me to this room that had pretty candles and tranquil music. She told me that she was going to ask if the pressure she exerted suited my needs. She was so freindly and made me feel welcome. From then, I was in heaven--the deep tissue massage lasted for full 60 minutes and Maria massaged me from my neck, shoulders, lower back, arms, legs, feet, as well as my face. I did NOT want to get off the massage table. After the massage, Maria showed me some stretches, which stretched my muscles I've never stretched before. On the walk back to my apartment, I felt like I was dreaming. I felt so calm and the accumulated stress was all gone. I strongly recommend this place to people who want to know what a REAL MASSAGE is like. This is my first time writing a review for anyone, but I wanted to share my great experience I had at the Oxygen Spa Studio. I am DEFINITELY going back there after my midterm exams. read more
