She was very thorough in her evaluation prior to starting the massage and inquired as she began to make sure she was meeting my needs. She even gave suggestions of what I could do to release the shoulder tension, in the future. I went to spa for Mother's Day treat. I had a great facial with Nylle. She was very welcoming and performing her job well. I was so relaxed. I love the steam shower before or after session. Recommend to come at least 30 mins early to use amenities. One thing, I noticed could be improved is the cleaning lady in the lady's room. She could have be more calm. She made me feel uncomfortable and anxious. When she picked up someone's else empty glasses, she does not need to ask me if she can take it. She should just clean up when guest not there. Fortunately, I received a spa visit as a birthday gift. My experience at Spa Space may make me get back into the flow. There's a tranquil ambiance upon entering that set the tone for a relaxing experience. The staff was friendly despite me being the last guest before closing. The changing room was clean and had a nice decor. The masseuse was professional and maximized our time. She didn't waste a second during the full 60 minutes. I haven't been to Spa Space in over a year, but was recently reminded of them when they started spamming me with emails even after I unsubscribed. As I recall, the spa is very clean and there's parking directly across the street. The location is perfect and I was often able to walk to State Street to shop after my appointments. The service started off great and then slowly went downhill. I had the worst massage of my life at Spa Space. The masseuses' hands were rough and she would not stop talking during the service. It wasn't relaxing at all. I don't mind a bit of polite conversation but I enjoy peace and calm at the spa-not a comedy hour. I had the same issue with the nail technicians. The service was aggressive and the person I was usually assigned to would ramble on and on. She tried to remove a callus from my foot and I was in pain for weeks. I had to ask that I not be scheduled with her again which probably led to the final issue. Spa Space started canceling my appointments with very little notice. At first, I was understanding because I knew that they were experiencing a staff shortage, but after awhile it became a major inconvenience. I had a big trip out of the country planned and was set to leave on a Sunday. Spa Space called that Friday to cancel. I explained that I really needed the appointment because of the trip and was willing to work with them time wise, but nope! They couldn't accommodate me. I never went back and when some of their staff members showed up at the spa I currently frequent, I made sure to steer clear. As a local guide I love sharing both positive and negative experiences I've had with regards to holistic healing and therapeutic massage. Let me start of by sharing all the POSITIVES first! I'm extremely grateful that I arrived here today inquiring about a last minute massage service because this morning I woke up in extreme pain. I suffer from TMJ (BRUXISM) and sinus issues so I felt positively awful today and after visiting the French Market on Clinton I walked into this location and asked if any service was available. I'd have been delighted with either a facial or deep tissue massage. I just needed a pick me up. The receptionist was extremely gracious kudos to her she was kind, a great communicator and had awesome style She told me that within 5 minutes a therapist was definitely going to be available for a full hour and so I grabbed it and helped myself to a tiny packet of M $ M peanut candies. The front desk receptionist inquired if I'd been there before and I said most Definitely but years ago when I used to live in the west loop. I'd like to say the space is charming and immaculate and they have wonderful items on sale like candles and beauty products. You will definitely be tempted to buy something special here either as a gift to yourself or a friend. Once my therapist was ready she escorted me up the lovely stairwell and took me to a dimly lighted treatment room. The room is extremely professional and simple. Cristina was my therapist and she did a lovely job but now comes the feedback. I did tell Cristina that I'm also a Therapist and that I suffer from chronic sinus issues, allergies and Tmj. I feel like I was quite clear that my goal was to release sinus pressure, tackle neck and shoulder issues, focus on my scalp and that my feet were also important to me. My spine can use a bit of work due to the physical nature of my job. I didn't like the fact that had me face down for so long because it wasn't good for my sinuses. I also didn't appreciate her chatting and asking me pointed questions about my job etc...I just met her and she was prying. I regret that I told her I'm a massage therapist too and yes I've been practicing chakra balancing, reiki, alternative healing and therapeutic massage for 30 plus years. Her pressure was good but not as effective or as deep as I typically prefer. I am very particular about touch and prefer myofascial release which Cristina had minimal at best knowledge of. I felt the $165 price for the hour long massage was over priced because I am still in a bit of pain and my main areas i needed addressed were not focused on enough. The gratuity of 18% is built into the services and 2% is given to the other staff members here. I am not in agreement that Cristina deserved this price because I've had outstanding massage services before from holistic healers where I left glowing, radiant and completely pain free. I don't like talking during a paid service and so going forward I think I will mention this to all my future Therapists because I can't fully relax and let go when I'm talking and answering questions. Finally here is my feedback to the owner. Please reconsider your built-in tip policy. It simply isn't fair to force your guests into a tip if a service is mediocre. My neck is still stiff and sore. I hope this review will be taken to heart and I wish only the best and that my feedback will be considered honest and not malicious. If I'm going to spend $165 per hour I want a medical grade massage and I expect to leave completely free of pain. I don't feel like I'm walking on clouds right now. After a gnarrrly spill from a horse in 2009, I've been slathered in Biofreeze and getting frequent massages for hip/shoulder issues ever since. I've had some stunning experiences, but Javier blows them all out of the water. I'll take his massage over any of the uber-luxe ones I've booked in 5 star hotels over the years. He's easily THE best (I'm talkin' turn-you-into-melted-gummy-bear-hands, here). I had just started a new job and was stressing out. My body was just not in the right place and the added stress kept piling on. Luckily, I got a friend who gifted me a GC to Spa Space, and it turned out be THE gift I needed. Upon entering, you're escorted to a waiting room to change and relax. The ambiance is just splendid. Once they're ready for you (this was my time for a massage), they call you out and take you to the designated room. The massage was I M P E C C A B L E. I did the brush massage, which was absolutely necessary. My masseuse went into every nook and cranny they could find and made me feel like a new person. It was everything I needed and more. It ended with the dry brush, which helped with my circulation and I got to keep the brush - still use it now! Then I was pampered off to my facial and I absolutely loved my girl (I need to book with her again, soon). She gave me all the best advice on how to care for my face and keep it flawless - I won't be sharing our secrets. Her process was meticulous and comforting, I just knew I was in the right hands. Went here for a manicure because I got a gift card. Pricey for no chip manicure in my opinion, $45 and they automatically add 20% tip, so $54 for manicure. It's right across the street from the French Market. Metered parking or garage parking. They do not validate. The place is big. It's very relaxing when you come in and smells pleasant. The place is clean and the manager was at the front desk, who was very welcoming. They offer you water and/or tea. I got a hot chamomile with honey, very nice. The front had a lot of things for purchase. I was then taken to the back where mani and pedi are done. My technician was Ivy. She was running behind but was professional and very detailed oriented doing my nails. The mani took 30 minutes. I liked the color, let's see how long it'll last. I wasn't sure what to expect from the mixed reviews- but I was definitely happy with my experience here. The spa itself is clean and actually quite big once you're inside. The locker rooms are spread out based on gender. There was only one other person in the locker room with me, and it was very quiet. I love that they have lockers without keys. They also offer a variety of mirrors/products if you have something to look presentable for after your treatments. My massage was truly the standout experience. If you haven't been here and are just generally wanting a massage- get the space ritual. It offers a little bit of everything and is a great experience all around. I was so relaxed after. My facial was just ok- for the price point I was expecting it to be in line with my massage, but I would probably not opt to go here for the facial alone. She didn't push product, which is always a plus for me when going somewhere. I made a reservation for the signature hour massage and the moroccan scalp massage. Since they were running some kind of "special" I basically got the scalp massage for $15.00 instead of $45.00 and it included a bottle of the remaining moroccan oil for future use! I love the atmosphere here..upon entering you sit at the bar and are offered complimentary coffee, tea, or water while you fill out your form designating your health information and what parts of the body you want the massage therapist to address. Then you are given a tour of the spa space where you can secure your belongings in a locker, get a pair of sandals, a robe and relax in an attached room with magazines until your massage therapist calls you in for your treatment. Very serene...the entire experience... I had "the best" massage ever in which it was the first time that every single muscle in my back, neck, shoulders, and arms were completely at ease and very, very relaxed after the termination of the session. My massage therapist was Allegra and I would highly recommend her. During the massage there was acoustic music playing..ironically the first song was The Eagles "Hotel California" which I was surprised at..no vocals..just acoustic/classically done..I thought it was funny-but then it ventured into a "loop" of classical music which was somewhat relaxing...(that is my only complaint). The scalp massage was nice and my hair was shiny and smooth for several days after...the moroccan oil was therapeutic to the senses as well. At the end of the massage session, the therapist Allegra met me outside with a huge glass of cucumber infused water that was crisp and refreshing!!! Huge selection of spa products were available for sale..but no pressure to buy. The showers and spa space after was clean with complimentary combs, lemongrass infused shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner...plenty of clean towels....even mouthwash was available. DO NOT go here, especially for waxing services. I got burned not once, but twice. First time I kept on telling her the wax was too hot. She kept on responding that this was the normal temperature for all her clients instead of making me comfortable. And that if she didn't have it this hot the hair wouldn't grip. I was burned for a full week. The problem is I got roped in for a wax pass and the location is super convenient so I had to go a few more times because maybe I thought this was a one off. Before my next wax appointment, I called and asked them to make sure to keep the temperature of the wax down. The front desk told me that they would make a note of that in my profile. Throughout my second wax appointment, I had to coach her through the whole process and be very vigilant about the temperature. However, this was a different person performing the service, so it was ok. Nothing happened. The third time I came back it was the same lady that burned me. I thought ok maybe that first time was a one off. It was not. She lifted my skin on my upper lip. Additionally she was telling me it happened because my skin was dry and sensitive. I literally have been waxing my whole body since I was a tween and this has never happened to me. Anyways, I told the front desk that I was frustrated I told her about the previous time and how I called and the front desk lady said she put a note in my profile. She told me they didn't have a record of the note. At the end I told her to just cancel my membership. The entire place just sucks. The massages are crappy too, amenities are terrible. Overall: great space to go for a mani/pedi, but it's a bit pricey! I had a gift certificate to Spa Space from a coworker and decided to use it before a weekend out of town. My certificate was for the "Signature Manicure", a standard manicure (valued around $25) but I added the No-Chip option which was an additional $20. The facility was very calm, I'm used to more lively nail salons so it was a different atmosphere for me. I did enjoy the cucumber water and candy snacks they offer to customers as they wait to be called go their appointment. It's not a huge perk but it was a nice bonus to sip on something refreshing as I waited. My nail technician was good at what she did, but wasn't very personable. Once again, I'm used to the nail technician asking about me and engaging in conversation (because that's how you build clientele) and she only spoke to me when she needed me to move my hand or something concerning the manicure. I usually keep my reviews short and sweet but I'm going to talk about this place forever so if you want the headline it's best service I've maybe ever had. This is so far from my first rodeo and I've been to so many spas that have left me deeply unimpressed in the recent past and this one just knocked it out of the park. The space is gorgeous. The little shop when you first walk in is adorable and has really great products but also really cute jewelry and all kinds of things that I would actually want to buy. The changing room is gorgeous. Even the slippers were more comfortable than the hard plastic ones they usually give you. The service was heavenly and seemed to go on forever. It started with a dry brush, then moisturizer application, and while I was cocooned to let everything sink in she did reflexology on my feet, followed by a hot stone massage that turned me to a pile of gelatin. When I got back into the changing room the selection of amenities was incredible and I was able to take the most amazing relaxing shower with a face mask and a body scrub and just anything you could possibly need. Honestly the shower alone would be worth the price of admission. This ain't your home bathroom. I already could've floated out of there and then they handed me a glass of champagne and I died. I'm coming back, I'm bringing my husband back, I am shouting about this place from the rooftops. If I could give them more than five stars I would. read more

Shortly, Doug came in and introduced himself and took care of me for the next hour. I play a lot of volleyball and run when I can, so my focus was on shoulders and calves. Big, cool space. I came in for the first time for a premium facial and microdermabrasion. The facial was quite nice however my esthetician, I kid you not, the entire time was plugging her own side business for her facials. She had to have mentioned it upwards of 10 times, it got to the point where it was coming across as desperate. She made me give her my phone number where she sent the info, kept mentioning the location, how nice her products are, how I should bring my friends, how nice it'll be, how nice it'll be, how nice it'll be (no, seriously). She also kept mentioning how I couldn't tell anyone there since the spa doesn't know she does this on the side. I felt very pressured to express interest and say I'll check it out, and that I wouldn't tell on her. And I wouldn't mind if she mentioned it once, or if I was a repeat customer she was familiar with and plugging her own business, but to be this forward and pressuring with a stranger coming in for the first time just left me feeling weird, and overall took away from the relaxing experience. So where do I start.. me and my friend went here for a much needed spa day. We decided on the stress buster supreme which by the way cost is $400 each. This package includes a 90 min massage, a facial, and a medi/pedi. Let's talk about the massage. It was hands down the worst massage I've ever gotten in my 30 years of life. The therapists lacked technique and pressure even while we was asking them for more pressure. My therapist arm was so hairy that I could feel her arm hair prickling my back which made the massage feel so gross.. On to the facial.. if I could rate the facial on it's on it was by far the best thing of this whole experience.. hands down 5 stars! Now for the medi/pedi.. From start to finish we were rushed. Rushed to pick a color, didnt even get to really soak our feet the paint job was definitely rushed. On top of the nail tech consistantly complaining about how she has a next appointment after us. I also thought it was very strange that as we was on our way to get our medi/pedi instead of walking us thru the back area while we had our robes on the nail tech walked us right thru the common area where other guess were waiting as well as the big ass crystal clear window where you can look in see right thru. So after all this horrible service and we fully expressed to the front desk how much we were displeased with their service they only took off the fee that we were charged to be in the same room togethere while we got our horrible massage. I am a little dissapointed with the place. I booked a facial for my birthday, mani and pedi. I reached at 10 am for my 10 am appointment. I was taken to the room and I changed so it was around 10.07am when I came to my room. The session started at 1015am and I asked my aesthetician if she had enough time to do upper lips and eyebrows and she said she did. So we did that and my facial started at around 1025am and it was supposed to be a 60 minute facial but it ended at 11 am. She did a good job with the facial but paying 115$ for a 35 minute facial did not feel great. I told the front desk about it and they did not seem too concerned about my experience. I guess customer service is not the speciality here. She told me that they are completely booked and that might be the reason for the rushed service. I had high expectations as the spa looked great and the services did sound good but they should not over book and give average service for such a high price. This is such a relaxing place to be! I love starting my massage in the women's locker room, that is tranquil with couches, magazines, soft music and cucumber water. My husband and I go (or try to!) once a month and we LOVE Brian and Julie. Brian has been doing my prenatal massages since I was 5-months pregnant (now at 8 months) and I could not see doing my pregnancy any other way. My husband has chronic tension in his shoulders and neck. Since coming, we can see a significant difference! I love it here and would recommend it to anyone I knew. read more

The beauty salons scattered in and around the Loop are a motley crew of chop shops and uber-classy, uber-costly retreats. In this dizzying dichotomy, there are two elusive finds: the hole-in-the-wall with the perfect manicurist that makes a $15 quickie look and last as long as if you'd paid $30, and the ritzy spot you always walk away from with a sigh of happiness and absolutely no regrets. Spa Space falls into the latter category and is a few blocks away from my office, so every now and then I like to escape the Financial District's barren, no-frills landscape to this haven of happiness. This month, the lovely Jo W and I decided to take full advantage of the beauty specials for pedicures. There is very little that gives one such satisfaction as watching someone slough callused skin off your soles. It's an immensely calming feeling, shedding that layer of dead cells...seriously, who needs meditation when you have a pumice stone? And the foot massages are decadent. I'm starting to believe there's something to reflexology, because I was perfectly content to go back to work afterwards, even though I've been pulling 15 hour workdays three days in a row now. Despite the frigid temperatures Chicago's taken to in the last week (fine, 50 isn't so bad, but I'm from LA, after all), I really just can't bring myself to slip on closed toed shoes. So my toes might freeze, but they're just so preeetty... Disclaimer: I love their mani/pedis, but their waxing is pretty standard and not really worth the extra $$$. Meh...well at least I tried it fully. Went back on a groupon with my hubs. I felt like we were at Disney. They crowded all the people together & lead them to the locker room...well not tons but like 3. The locker room is small. Also, they explained it but not the "amenities" which is a single steam shower. I put on a robe and later found a business card in it from a staff member. The concerning thing about this was the card was perfect...like someone had worn the robe just before me and put it in the pocket. It didn't look like it had been wet or through a dry cycle...eeeewwwe! Gross! Did they not wash this robe? Did someone accidentally put a dirty robe back on the shelf. Yuck. They were out of tea. They had some small nuts in a bowl. There's a very small relaxation room, but it's only females. I guess in the males they had a TV. Not really a great place to go for spending some quality time together. There was no where for my hubs and I to sit and enjoy together...bah. I thought it was a couples massage and facial...nope. I was lead to a single room. They checked with the manager and my therapist stated "she said its a common misperception with the groupon." Welp, I guess that's all I get...haha. Hilars. I would think that if it's common, maybe when people book, you should clarify. The massage was very basic and not very good. My therapist actually was drinking water during my massage...uuuhhhh, like you can't hold off on that for 50 mins? I could hear him gulping. That's a first. I asked for deep...it was a pressure of about 4-6...meh. Really just felt like he was rubbing my back...slightly better than how my husband does. The facial was quite a joke. The lady literally took me back, slapped a mask on my face. I heard her clanking every jar in the place while I tried to relax during my very basic facial. It was almost 5p on a Sunday...so I understand the need to clean up...but can't you wait??? Alas, the groupon trap got me again. But I actually contacted them to get a refund. So lets start at the beginning. Booking an appointment is easy and you don't have to book way in advance. I booked the tranquility spa package for $160 which was pretty reasonably priced. I arrived a half hour early and was seated at the juice bar in the lobby to fill out the paperwork before my treatment. When done I was taken to the women's locker room. Note on lobby: this is really the only common space for guys and girls to be in the same place while waiting for treatments and it's a bit busy. Women's locker room: Small area with not that many lockers. Private space for you to change behind a curtain. Individual rain and steam shower room where there is lemon and sage shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Love the rain shower head but the room does have rust in some spots and the floors could be a little cleaner. There is body lotion, q-tips, and makeup remover for you to use. There are combs, brushes and blow dryers that you can use for your hair as well. Further into the locker room also has the women's waiting area. It is a bit small but cozy. There is cucumber water, tea, coffee and magazines for you while you wait. Swedish massage: My massage was done by Doug and it was amazing. It was a full body massage and he focused on the areas I said were most tense. I still feel great now that it has been a few hours later and I'm back at home. Pedicure: My pedicure was done by Courtney. She did a really great job. It was done in a private room with a massage chair and tub. The tub and the chair were a bit loud but not overly. I had the paraffin wax with my pedicure and my feet look great. Manicure: This was also done by Courtney and this was done where everyone gets their nails done in the spa. This area also has cucumber water and a big bowl of M&M'S as well as nuts and raisins for you to snack on. The manicure was normal and Courtney did an excellent job. read more

This was my first pedicure of the year and my feet were rough. Tons of dead skins and toe nails over grown. And then I went to Spa Space and had the most decadent and indulgent pedicure of my life. I'm talking about the "Happy Feet" package y'all. Now let me be honest it does come with a $95 price tag but baaaaaby, it's worth every penny. It's 80 minutes of pure bliss and it includes: a foot soak, basic nail care (clipping, cuticle care, callous and dead skin removal), a sugar scrub and massage on feet and legs, cooling mask, hot towel wrap, a second massage with lotion, oils, AND hot stones. And they top it off with a paraffin dip. It's GLORIOUS. If you ever wanted a pedicure with a ton more foot rubbing this is it! Then of course you get your toes polished as well. You're going to want to fall asleep but don't do it! You have to stay awake to fully absorb and appreciate the experience. Mina was my nail tech/pedicurist/therapist/Goddess lol she was so awesome. She was so attentive and detailed. You could tell she cared about her work. (I've been to too many nail shops with technicians who obviously don't care about their jobs or you. Never again.) She scrubbed the mess out of my feet! I had so much dead skin and now my feet look brand new! Like I did one of those foot peels. Treat yo self! That's what this is. You don't get this every month but once or twice a year (perhaps even quarterly) just do it! read more

My girlfriend took me to Spa Space as a Valentine's day gift; we did a 75 couples Swedish massage where we were placed in the same room. They started us off by giving us locker keys and some cucumber infused water, then directed us to our room. Very intimate environment, soothing music, and just the right temperature. My masseuse was very nice and asked how much pressure to apply from 1-10 (10 being the most); she did a great job with a request for 8. My first visit was a few years ago during a spa week special. I figured why not, a great price, it's close to work--let's give it a whirl. I had a wonderful experience.with Sam doing my wax---she was great, took her time. Used both the hard and soft waxes to get the job done with minimal pain. Like some of the other reviewers it's not that I was terribly impressed during my first visit--but the locations is close to work and I did not have a negative experience. Fast forward to my most recent visit last week. I had a friend who had never lady-scaped before and I happened to have some spa finder certificates. Before she changed her mind to go get it done I had her call to see if there were any openings. Fortunately there were 2 openings at the same time. Upon entering we were greeted by the pleasant front desk staff and offered a drink. I opted for a glass of water because it was so hot outside. My friend went in first and I went in a few minutes after. After walking through a few doorways to finally get to the room, Maxine asked me if I had ever gotten waxed before, I said yes as she directed me to the treatment table and the towel. Being that this was not my first time, I wasn't nervous--but I started wondering why she was smearing such large areas of wax over me? She didn't have me hold my skin taught--not did she hold any skin taught--it seemed as if she was just haphazardly ripping the wax off in all directions. She proceeded to explain that she was quick and efficient and would try to get done as soon as possible so that she wouldn't have to prolong the pain. I was definitely skeptical--because this is the most in pain I have ever been----and trust me--that says a lot because I've had 2 children... When the torture was finally over as she walked me to the front she told me that my friend might be a little while because the other girl is a little slower---I'm pretty sure I much would have rather had that---for the next 48 hours I was still red--and to top it all off she missed some spots....quick--yes--efficient--not-so much--more like hot mess sloppy. With so many other places that offer this service--I will most likely take a pass on any future visits unless I can make my appointment with Sam or someone who is more in the know about lady-scaping. read more

First off, this place is immaculate. So clean and really beautiful inside. The staff was really nice and everything was managed really well for Covid safety. My massage therapist Kimberly did an excellent job considering my back is one giant knot these days. Super happy I came here for my first massage in a year and a half! read more

The nail spa is wonderful! So I was treated to mega massage pedicure and vanilla almond mani as a Valentine gift. This would have been my fist visit to this spa. The location I'm sure is ideal for those working close the Fulton market or River West area. On entering the establishment, you sense you will be in for a treat. The gentleman at the reception desk was less than receptive, okay... kinda "bitchy", but everyone else was pleasant. My services was done by Kanice (not sure if I'm spelling her name correctly). She was the ultimate professional and I could clearly understand why she is the nail spa manager. I've had many mani pedi over my very long life and quite frankly, this service is one of two experiences I will recall; the other is back when I lived in NY and that is over 25yrs ago. Will I be back... YES. Frequently... probably not for the following reasons 1) location is not within my commute or neighborhood 2) not within my budget to do on a regular...for special occasion and to have a luxury experience. Overall... I will be back not only for the nail spa, but to experience the massage. read more

This probably would have ended up being a very, very different review but Spa Space's customer service really stepped up and made things right! I scheduled a 90-minute massage for a Saturday afternoon. I ended up only getting there 5-7 mins early, instead of the preferred 15 mins so I knew I wouldn't have a lot of time to decompress in the locker room (which was fine by me!). However, once I got into the locker room, it was clear that their Saturday was jammed packed as the lockerroom was completely full, all seats were taken, and no lockers were available. This caused my massage to start a few minutes late, but the staff continuously apologized and I could sense their urgency to get things worked out. My massage with Erin was very nice. She was very personable and did a great job on my back, neck, and shoulders. I ended up only getting a 60-minute massage (I wasn't sure if I slept through part of it!). I got my things and wanted to get out of there as the locker room was still packed. The front desk apologized on the mix-up and charged me for a 60-minute massage. They were aware of the locker delay and apologized for the busy afternoon. I was a little frustrated leaving as they didn't offer even a 10% discount for this mix-up, but the massage left me zen so I just quietly left. Once I got home, the manager Jean personally emailed me and apologized for the mix-up and wanted to make it right. I was really impressed with this follow-up and I'm looking foward to trying another service soon. The staff were very kind and they clearly take customer satisfaction seriously. Ultimately, things like this happen (we are all human) and they easily could have brushed this incident off. I appreciate Jean, Erin, and the staff for going out of their way! read more
