Incredibly unprofessional and rude. I called to make a last minute appointment and asked if I could do a 30 or 60 min massage. The woman on the phone's English wasn't great but from what I understood she asked me if I could make it before they close at 9:30. I said I could and at 9:00 the woman started calling me asking where I was. I had parked a block away and said I was walking over to Ashland. She called me a liar because there was "tons of parking" on Ashland and I tried to explain that I didn't park on Ashland because it was a snow route (there was snow on the ground) but she didn't understand me. She just kept saying "I DON'T SEE YOU! You're not here!" before hanging up. There were a few cars on the street, but I was in an hourly zipcar rental and it would've been costly if I got towed. Plus, as you can see in the screenshot, I had time. I saw her lock up and leave as I was crossing the street at the corner. I kept calling and she texted me. "Sorry too late." Which makes zero sense because I wasn't late and she said was willing to take me for a 30 minute or 60 minute massage. If I were late, why not just say that she could only take a 30 minute massage? The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and it sucks for them because I would've loved to find a late night massage place as I'm often up late. read more

Overall: If you want an authentic, no BS massage experience, Ping Spa is the place to be! The good: This place is straight up - Cash only, choppy English speaking, Kenny G playin', and right to the point. And that's totally okay! The women here are very friendly and attentive, and more importantly they get the job done. It was a very relaxing and thorough experience. They also do plenty of walk-ins and are very accommodating time-wise. The not-so-good: As someone else mentioned, they don't ask for target areas. Also, the choppy English can get in the way sometimes, it's hard to take directions when the directions aren't clear. Cash only is a hinderance. I live in the neighborhood and was in need for a massage after my long run. I was hoping this place lived up to the reviews but it fell short. I upgraded and got the deep tissue, but it was only deep tissue for the first five minutes when the lady walked on my back. The rest of the time the pressure was moderate at best. Man... Was in need of a good massage and so glad I came across this place. The thing that attracted me was the price point; I'm used to paying over $100 for a one hour massage in Chicago. So figured I would take a chance on this place as it was around $75 with tip. As the other reviewer said: this place is totally no frills. So if you're used to saunas and quasi infinity pools, you'll be thrown off when you walk in. That said, these ppl are SKILLED and what I liked the most was my masseuse worked in some hot stones which was completely unexpected. The attention paid to my feet and legs was awesome. I came in for the standard 60-min massage and left pleasantly surprised. Great service and you can't beat the price in Chicago! (I paid $65 + $15 for tip). My masseuse was very attentive, thorough, and organically made sure to go over problem areas on my body without having to ask - she also asked if the pressure was ok a number of times to accommodate my comfort. The establishment is smaller, very clean, and simple - so if you're looking for the 'fluff and extra' of a high-end spa, you won't find that here... not that it matters because the service is top-notch. You'll be taken care of in a private room which was cozy and had good ambiance during the massage. The only thing that threw me for a hot-second was that I was asked to be completely naked for the massage and was never covered up (though I'm sure they would have if I felt uncomfortable); not a big deal, just never had a massage like that before... but it made working over my entire backside that much more thorough. Buyer beware, extremely shady place, they expect you to put your face on some generic brand paper towels for the entire duration as reference. The therapist was extremely unprofessional, she not only left the room several times during the massage, she also left the door open without even covering me. That's a complete disrespect of my privacy and not to mention unprofessional. She was also talking on the phone during the massage. She kept her phone on the massage bed and it kept vibrating for the duration of the massage. I till had some sore spots so I asked for an extra 15 mins of paid massage and she declined saying she was not feeling well. I literally ran out of the place when I heard that for obvious reasons. One word: raggedy. I have been to plenty of massage spas in Chicago and this by far was my worst experience. We requested a couples massage but were placed in two different rooms. They only asked if that was a problem when we arrived. In both rooms the speakers were blown out, so even though relaxing music was playing, the speakers were crackling which made it difficult to relax. During the massage they kept coming in and out of the room as if they were doing choirs such as changing items from the washer to the dryer. Where do I begin on the noises: their phone rang loudly what you could hear in the rooms. My partner said that his masseuse had her phone on vibrate and was sitting on the massage table and it kept buzzing. In the end we went to tip, $15 to each masseuse, and it felt like we were being judged for what we tipped. Not recommended. read more

This is a little gem of a place. My finance and I went in to get a couples massage and walked out feeling relaxed, refreshed, and renewed. We even set up a monthly schedule with this place to get a couples massage every other week as the price point can't be beat and the service beyond phenomenal. They worked out knots that I didn't know existed and concentrated on the tight areas. The interesting thing is that the communication lacks. There is a language barrier; however, there was no communication really needed as they knew exactly what they were doing and knew the spots my body needed work on. Michelle is was phenomenal and we are going back next time to get walked on (sounds weird) but works wonders. DON'T be fooled by the interior of the place. The place does not resemble a spa at all. This is not a spa experience so if you are looking for a spa like feel, this is not the place. If you are in need of a good massage, this is the place to go. Best massage I've ever had- and trust me, I have had A LOT of massages :) I have seen Michelle twice now, both time she was able to accommodate me within half an hour of me calling. Don't let her size fool you, she is stronger than most men who I have had massages with! Hot stones, deep tissue, but my favorite part is when she walks on your back. Woweeee!!! You literally feel the knots in your back melting away. I have Really bad back pain and both times I walked in in extreme pain and walked out feeling like putty. I booked a massage for tonight. I pre-paid for a 1 hour massage. I asked if I could pay with a credit card and she said yes, so I paid and tipped on the credit card before the massage started. Once it started, she asked if medium pressure was ok. I said yes. As the massage went on, I asked if she could go a little harder, she said "that's $10 extra". She then asked if it was my first time there, I said yes. She then started telling me that I didn't tip enough and that I should have tipped more! Amazing massage! I called on a Sunday to get a last minute deep tissue massage and was able to get an appointment the following hour for a massage. I had extreme back pain and so many knots in my upper back, I felt like a new person after the massage as they were all worked out. I'm leaving this review for my girlfriend. She had one hour massage at this spa. The massage was excellent and my girlfriend was very relaxed after the massage. According to my girlfriend, the massasuse knew how to open the knots on her back and even walked on her back as well. Wow, this lady really knows what she's doing!! I came across this place because I was desperate for a last minute massage and Michelle was very accommodating. I thought I knew what I was going to get when I asked for a deep tissue massage, but this place went above and beyond my expectations. She knew right away that my shoulders and back were problem areas & made sure to concentrate there. There were 4 main parts to the massage: 1. Regular deep tissue 2. She walks on your back to put more concentrated pressure on problem areas 3. Hot Stone massage 4. Head and/or foot massage. All under $100! Best place for a massage in the city. It doesn't look fancy but the masseuse knows their stuff. They do things like stretching your joints, walking on your back, and using pressure points for a massage. Honestly, Ping Spa is on par with most chiropractors.
