So, I finally decided to treat myself to a day (well a half-day) at the spa for my birthday, because if I don't how can I expect others to? So, after searching and searching for a spa, and comparing reviews, I found Spa Space. What attracted me to this spa was the fact that they had so many spa packages to chose from and that they could be customized. Even though I was splurging I could only do the half-day, but is was SO WORTH IT! I suggest going early to take advantage of the tea bar and the relaxation room. I think there is a steam shower room too, but I did not have time to explore it... So, first they took me to my hour long massage, it was amazing!!! My masseuse was amazing. I wish I could remember her name to recommend her. Next I had the vitamin C facial. It was great. And to wrap up the experience was a pedicure and manicure with Alicia. She was good. Tips for newbies...if you are going for long massages and facials and you wear contacts, take them out so you can actually see after having your eyes closed for an hour at a time. Also, don't expect to look pretty after a facial. It's amazing for the skin, but leaves you red for a while, but worth it. Also, please remember to remove your makeup before a facial, it was not until I was leaving that I noticed the spread of products (including makeup remover) in the bathroom of the ladies lounge. read more

I have been here several times, once for a hot stone massage, and a couple other times for manicures and pedicures. I was very disappointed in the massage. The guy was very talkative, the stones were luke warm, and while I asked for a lot of pressure he seemed to ignore it. Also, the walls are very thin, and I heard someone moaning next door to me! This made the whole experience very uncomfortable and I will not be back for another massage. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the manicures and pedicures, the staff was very friendly, they have a great color selection, and you can pick a type of manicure or pedicure, for example scented with citrus, pumpkin, etc. They really took their time to make sure I was comfortable, and gave us warm green tea during our services. read more

I come here with my mom - they did a really amazing job on my facial (it was so relaxing I bascialy fell asleep and snored through it) and gave me a lot of great feedback. The manicure pedicure work here is simply unbelievable - both the great conversation, the considerable work, high quality products, and attention to detail (and the willingness to scrub the callouses off my gnarly man feet). It's five star treatment - the only reason it's not four stars is I wish there were more diverse package options for men, although the robes are luxurious, I just wish they closed a little tighter, like just a little button up top. But that's just me being mega insecure. I've been here twice already and plan to go back again in a few months. Saw plenty of other men, there as well. So it is very guy friendly. read more

I treated my bf and I to a couples massage here a few weeks ago. We arrived 15 mins early and were greeted and checked in. Before we could even undress in the locker room three different people told us our therapists were waiting for us. We still had 15 mins before we were even scheduled to be there. During the massage the therapists asked if we would like more pressure. We both did, but didn't get it. I've had a WAY better massage at a cheap place for $29/hr. At the end the female therapists massaged our necks and both had long nails that scratched. Was basically the ending to a terrible experience. The steam showers were nice! The manager gave me a discount, but unfortunately it only covered the amount of the gratuity I shouldn't have left. I would try other options before coming here. I do CrossFit, so I know a good massage, and this is NOT the place. I wish they would have refunded my money. The manager did give me a card and say to call her next time to be sure we get a great experience, but I feel like the first time should have been the chance to make it a great experience. read more

I highly recommend a swedish massage with Bill! If I could afford to see him every two weeks I would. His hands are magic. I like my massages a little rough to get out all the kinks and he does a great job with that. I also had a very good Vitamin C facial that left me glowing. I'm giving it only 4 stars for a couple of reasons: 1. I had an eyebrow wax that wasn't very good. They missed a lot of hairs. 2. I had an Indian Head Massage that wasn't very good. I think the style of massage I like (see above) just didn't jive with it. 3. I had a regular facial here a couple of weeks ago and I was disappointed they didn't do any extractions. Every other typical facial I've received I've had them done. 4. I find it annoying that I can't put the tip on my credit card. I hate having to remember to go to an ATM to get cash. If you make an appointment for Sunday (and maybe Saturday too) there is free street parking right in front of the entrance. read more

First time client with the bf on a Saturday right before Xmas Eve. We both had the "East Meets West" Spa Packages, plus I added the brow & lash tint with an exfoliating peel to the facial & he added paraffin wax to his mani. With the added services to our packages our spa day lasted roughly 6 hrs. Our massages were awesome! Best stone therapy EVER. It was the right amount of pressure && no light rubbing was involved which I liked cuz I feel I always have to ask a female therapist "HARDER PRESSURE PLEASE". Bf told me he slept thru all 3 massages with huis male therapist (full body, indian head & reflexology massages) so iKnow he enjoyed it. && I caught myself almost falling asleep during the Indian Head massage! Facials were good. A bit tingly with one of the peels I added on (recommendes by the esthetician) cuz I have horrible visible clogged pores with oily skin but here I am next morning no break out yet. Instead I have supple clear skin. Our mani/pedi was just as great as the previous services! We both loved our pedicurists' pleasant attitude! My bf's pedicurist carefully took care of his callus on his feet since he works on his feet all day. For my mani I have requested french tip & they came out perfect! && he had a buff to his mani & paraffin wax that had his hands nice && soft the nxt morning! Overall our experience at Spa Space was perfect && much needed! We have found our go-to-spa && will definitely return for routine facials/pedicures && occasional spa days! read more

This place is by far the best spa, I've been to. The staff are friendly and patient with all my silly question asking. The waiting areas are so relaxing and comfortable that, you'd think that would be your room to receive relaxation in. Today I enjoyed just about all of their services. Massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. And I'm trying to decide which was my favorite part. And it's like a mother choosing which child is her favorite. It's next to impossible. read more

I have been here a few times, so I feel like I can fairly rate Spa Space. I think it is a bit overpriced - so I recommend trying to find specials the spa is running or other spa week/spa finder specials. I have had two different types of massages from *Julie* and they were both fabulous - which is saying A LOT because I have been rubbed a lot (I'm a bit of a spa whore) and I can be a bit particular. For example, don't force me to do funky breathing rituals while getting rubbed - I know I should breathe deeply, but if I zone out while enjoying a massage or listening to Amazon forest jungle birds - don't snap me out of it by accosting me with "breathe, I DON'T HEAR YOU BREATHING DEEPLY ENOUGH!" I should point out that I just moved back here a year ago, and that I have tried a BUNCH of places for my massaging pleasure, and I was shocked at how HORRIBLE some places/people were. One person may have enjoyed the 90 minutes I wasted with her wherein she barely scratched my back, chanting and doing some sort of ceremony to try to release the knots in my back - but I will tell you - IT DID NOT WORK! Spa Space also has a very nice ambiance and customer service - which I like. I like for my spa to be clean and I like to be attended to with care - so I don't mind paying a little more for that. I also had a very nice facial - but I cannot recall the esthetician's name. As an added bonus, they are nice and close to my office - so just as I am about to launch a computer out the window - I can head on over to Spa Space instead. read more

Went back again this year for another bridal shower. Requested Doug to be my masseuse again, but this time I tried a hot stone massage, I have to say I prefer the swedish more. While the stone feels nice on my skin, I miss the actually process of massaging my back which I so needed. So maybe next time I'll try their deep tissue. read more

I love, love, love this place! The manis and pedis are the best I've experienced in Chicago - including the comfort of the seating and environment. Courtney is tops when it comes to giving an awesome mani-pedi. I've tried several places for mani pedis and no one holds a candle to Courtney. Plus she's fun! The other nail techs I've had there are very good, too. Do yourself a favor and try the Happy Feet pedicure - it's simply heavenly. I've had a microdermabrasion with Gina and was very happy with the service. Customer service team is top notch and booking is easy. I've walked past this place at least a hundred times during my commute to my old employer. A friend suggested it for their couple's massage. I purchased the package for my fiance and I just in time for Valentine's Day / our anniversary. The decor inside was not what I anticipated. The beverage bar was a nice touch prior to taking us into the men's / women's locker. I have to say I anticipated the ability to mingle with my man in a sauna / steam room before our treatments rather thab being separated. Sooooo I was pretty bored beforehand. My tech was a sweetie, but I was not a fan of the massage. I felt like it was more stretching and extremely light thumbing / feathering on my back. Where were the fluid and relaxing motions that a typical swedish massage incorporates? I loved the touch of the candles and chocolates in our room. The music was spotty. Some songs were great i.e. Michael Buble and some were a little too weird for my taste. I think whomever made the "mix tape" was not cohesive in their song selections. Good massages really depend on the tech. So with that said, I think I'll be trying another spa for my next rubdown. read more

The space is beautiful, and maybe for other services it's much better, but I didn't find the staff that great, and was a tad bit peeved about the cash-only tip policy which is annoying everywhere, not just here. I've had 2 facials here, a bikini wax, and a manicure. My enthusiasm for those treatments also falls in the same order: fantastic facial, average bikini wax, craptastic manicure. The facials are 1 hour long and heavenly. They do a great job, massage your back and shoulders too, and also give you a lower leg and foot massage (with warm cream treatment and warm booties!). My face is always glowing for days afterward, they close up my larger pores, and clean out the whole kit n caboodle. The bikini wax was no better or worse than other places I've gone. I hear they also do brazillians, but I haven't worked up the nerve for that one yet. The manicure was the antithesis of delightful. The manicurist was uninterested, did a crappy job, and when SHE MARKED ONE OF MY NAILS, she got all huffy when I asked her to redo it. She was uninterested in talking, which I don't mind when I don't have a common language with my manicurist, but if you speak English, you can chat with someone for 20 minutes. I mean give me a break. The manicure didn't last more than 3 days before chipping and it was just a waste of money in the end. The atmosphere at spa space is cold downstairs, but cozy upstairs. However, something is def. lacking for me to feel totally comfortable and I can't put my finger on it. It's like the people there are polite, but not friendly. I'm sorry, but if you're going to wax my nether-region, I need you to crack a joke or something. The facials are carrying this 4-star review--you will NOT be disappointed! read more

I love spa space for manis/ pedis after work on a Friday. Most of the places in the Loop for manis/pedis are just gross and/or do such a crappy job that it's chipped in a week. Spa Space is convenient, open late enough on Fridays, and my mani/pedi has really been outstanding each time. To save some money, I might recommend getting either just a polish change on the nails (they still shape your nails) or getting a mini-pedicure (focus on the toes). I took away one star because the employees are not uniformly friendly- some are wonderful and make you feel welcome, others seem to think your're interrupting their time. But still- this is the very best option for mani/pedi close to the Loop that I've found so far. read more

I came to Spa Space with my sister for their $31 pretty in pink deal on the Eucalyptus Reflexology Ritual. While the whole massage wasn't anything to die for, it was definitely relaxing. I'm also not a big have-to-go-to-a-very-fancy-spa type of person, but it's always good to treat yourself to one every once awhile; spa space is definitely one of these types - very serene, and the massage rooms are in a very secluded upstairs area where it's nice and quiet. All other services are also in back areas, so when you walk in, it's not noisy and crowded. They also use cucumber in their water - which i have ALWAYS loved! mmmm! I don't live near spa space, so i probably won't be coming here often, but i do want to try out one of their other services at some point in time. read more

Got a bikini wax here two weeks ago and I'm still go to go! Sam did me and she was great! She kept talking with me (which i liked because it kept my mind off the pain from the hair she was ripping out of my junk). the pain is what it is and I deal with it... but in the next 2 days that followed that area was a little sensitive to touch... I had never had that happen before. I thought the price what right ($25) and the salon is great. Fun stuff to look at/buy while you wait.. and they give you water that clearly has cucumbers in it... it was the yummiest water I've ever had :) Overall good experience... I'll go back fro sure. Tip: you can pay for your service any way you'd like, but tip must be cash... they will tell you this when you make the appointment and again when they call to confirm. read more

This indeed, is a very nice spa. I enjoyed the waiting areas zen-like atmosphere and the complimentary beverages along with the seeds. I was happy with my massage and enjoyed my facial. I did not like the oddness of the dressing area, nor did I like the residue that landed in my ears during the facial. Really bizarre....never had that happen before. Delightful space and service. I had acne issues for several years and couldn't find a resolution for this issue. Then I stumbled upon this spa and on Indira! I can't believe the skin I have now. I can go out without make up now!! Indira is the best at skin care. She's patient, honest and attentive. Aside from Indira, the spa itself is pleasant. They're ALWAYS on time! Offer complimentary tea (mighty leaf) and nuts. The spa is super peaceful, the locker rooms are nice, spacious and with a ton of complimentary Moroccan oil products to help you put yourself back together. The only problem with this place? Visited spa space on several occasions for microderm abrasion and facial treatments, as well as basic manicure. Booking appointments is super easy and they always seem able to accomodate my last minute requests. My aesthetician did a great job with my sensitive skin and I didn't experience any post-treatment breakouts that I have experienced at other spas. Loved that I could use all spa services and wear a robe and relax before and after my treatment. Manicure was expensive for basic manicure, but appreciate the cleanliness and nice atmosphere at spa space. Did not love the amount of products that I felt pressured to buy after my treatment, although overall my experiences here have been great! read more

My massage therapist was receptive to my requests and made me feel comfortable during my session. My pedicure was just as relaxing and enjoyable. Every time I walk into this place and it smells amazing! I want to bottle up the smell and take it home with me. I always buy the Groupons for the massage and facial. The massages are pretty good and they're attentive to your needs. The facial with Indira (sp?) is great. In the 25 min mini facial, I really feel like she gets the job done! I have been to this salon for massages, mani/pedi's, eyebrow waxes, and acrylic nails. They have never disappointed. I wanted to give a particular shout-out to Monica, who does the best acryclic nails I have ever seen--on myself or anyone else. She doesn't even use tips. She just does a "build out" with acrylic. After checking in and changing in the locker room, I waited for 10 minutes past my appointment time. No one came to get me for my facial. When I found someone and inquired about when I would go in for my booked 60 minute facial, the staff seemed perplexed. Finally I was escorted to the facial room. Worst facial I've ever had. Didn't ask me about my skin, didn't seem interested in doing anything except putting on and taking off (with luke warm cloths) lotions. I've had many facials at various spas. This beautician was sniffling the entire time. At one point she simply sat there while something cold and gooey sat on my face. I didn't get the full 60 minutes I paid for. Overall, I had an okay experience. The massage and facial that I received were great, and the masseuse Lisa really knew what she was doing! The only thing that I think this establishment could work on is their reception. When I came in I didn't feel like I was in a "spa" and I didn't receive a very warm welcome. When living in the city I would spend every weekend looking for the best spa services and best spa that would work for me. I found some great spas and enjoyed them. Immensely. When I moved to the suburbs about 25 years ago, I again was on the hunt. I found it with Renu. The services are spectacular and very thorough. Facials, massages, manicures and pedicures are all amazing. I have standing appointments weekly. Isabella is wonderful, the new owner, and they have made it very cozy, peaceful and calming. The services and the quality of the products they use are outstanding. Prices are reasonable and certainly well worth the quality of service you get. read more

This was my first time @ Spa Space, and it was generally speaking, an OK experience. The good thing was, we went with reps we worked with, so didn't have to pay :). I will not be back unless I had a gift cert, or if it was free/paid for again. A few of my complaints: 1. I got the signature mani/pedi, and was escorted to a private room with a co-worker. We were talking throughout, and were hushed by an employee, complaining we were talking too loud. We were only talking loud b/c the foot bath was really loud. If we were talking loud, that means the foot bath was too loud... 2. It's barely been a week, and I already have a few chips on my mani. Aren't manis supposed to last a good week? 3. When we were done, my co-worker's mani/pedicurist did not carry her shoes for her, nor give her the post-pedi oil. Lucky for me, mine did. 4. Cramped locker space. Things I did like: 1. They were accommodating and let us cater in food, and checked on us every 5 mins. 2. It was free for me. read more

My husband and I got a couples package which included a massage class, hour massage and private pedicures. It was phenomenal! The class "Art of Touch" was interesting and something different which is exactly what I was looking for. My massage with Lisa was perfect, one of the best ever actually and our pedicures were relaxing and thorough. I never felt rushed. The women's waiting area and locker room was stocked nicely and the steam shower was wonderful especially on the cold day. While it was pricey I would say it was in line with the services, atmosphere and overall experience. We were there for almost five hours and I still wasn't ready to leave. My company hosted a spa event here for approximately 50 clients last week. I have not visited Spa Space in several years and was unsure what to expect. Not only did the space, services, and staff meet my expectations (and those of our clients), they far exceeded them! We had many changes and cancellations throughout the night and the manager, Victoria, handled them flawlessly and always made everyone feel at ease and comfortable. We were able to bring in our own wine and food, which cut down on costs, and they even allowed a few guests to get additional, add-on services at no extra charge. Our clients gave rave reviews and are still talking about Stacy, the chair masseuse, and how amazing he was. I personally received a no-chip manicure I am very happy with. I went to Spa Space with several friends due to the location near the train/downtown work. I will say for groups they are EASY to work with, and so very accommodating. The service, the manager, the front desk staff all SUPER nice and very accommodating! Now to the service. I had a simple manicure. Easy enough. It was pretty bad. Maybe the worst I've had, so sad to say, b/c I really like this place. It was put on too thick, its chipping off on day 2 (and I didn't do dishes, change diapers, fix a bike, nothing to lead to chipping!?). My cuticles look like a war zone....cut, bleeding. It doesn't look like I had a manicure 2.5 days ago. What a major bummer. read more

A friend and I went here for spa day. We both had the overworked/overstress spa package which includes an express mani and pedi, facial and massage for a fairly reasonable price. I started of with the message and it was great and was up to par with what I expected. My facial was a bit confusing for the majority of the time I was given a head massage (don't get me wrong but that felt really good). However, I was really looking forward to getting my zits and blackheads popped but my aesthetician I guess didn't feel I had any.. which is really flattering but definitely a flat out lie.. Although, there was a lot of spreading various types of lotions on my face, i doubt that any of it really worked for it was wiped off after a few seconds. On a positive note, the aesthetician was definitely very friendly and spoke in a very soft almost monotone voice, which was sort of freaky but definitely a plus for it was almost like I was listening to one of those relaxation tapes with a voice over. Now moving on to the "xpress mani and pedi." Well, what I got was definitely super xpress! My friend on the other hand got a better manicurist for her mani and pedi took an hour longer. Her manicurist actually spent the time shaping her nail and buffing it while mine decided to simply slop on the manicure and call it a day. Another downside to this place is this awful receptionist that greets you and process your payment. Although she didn't say anything inappropriate, you can tell that she was bitter and felt like she was too good to be working as a receptionist. Her manner was just condascending and rude. Her counterpart though, the other receptionist couldn't be more opposite than her she was nice and friendly.. and they definitely balance each other out. Overall, I give this place 3 stars, the massage was decent, and the people were friendly for the most part. As for the mani and pedi, I guess if I opted for the non xpress version I would have gotten better service. read more

I can't believe that I'm giving 5 stars for a wax but it's true! First, the ambiance is perfect. I stepped into Spa Space and out of the urban jungle that is the West Loop and immediately, I felt at ease. I was offered a coffee, tea, iced water or any other variation. I got a great iced green tea w/ honey made especially for me. 5 stars for the service! Then, Indira, the esthetician, came for me. She led me upstairs and back to a secluded room among what seemed like many rooms. (I wonder what they do up there.) Indira was very knowledgeable. She made the whole nails-on-the-chalkboard experience very easy. (She told me that she also does facials and I'd guess she is also very good at that.) This was the most painless wax I've ever had. I got an Indian head massage by Jennifer Harris and it was absolutely amazing BUT my second service which was a 30 min body scrub by another therapist was the worst. He barely scrubbed my body and honestly I was about to have him stop so that I can leave rather than waste my time. Barely any massaging with the scrub. Wasted my money. read more

I've always had a positive experience, especially enjoy the private steam shower after! Ask for Stacey! (male): This year I've had a lot of low back pain, it's complicated and I needed someone who could listen to the details and also feel what is going on, and respond with the appropriate level of pressure and therapeutic massage rather than a cookie cutter massage.
