TANGERINE | WHAT TO ORDER…read more If you're a savory breakfast person, put this one on your list. I recently stopped into Tangerine - Lafayette, and this is exactly the kind of breakfast spot I love walking into -- bright, colorful, cheerful and welcoming, with friendly waitstaff and a menu focused on fresh, quality ingredients. WHAT I ORDERED: The Mushroom & Swiss Omelette -- packed with HUGE pieces of sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, spinach, melted Swiss cheese and walnut pesto. This wasn't one of those omelettes where you have to search for the filling. I added a side of extra-crispy bacon because crispy means crispy in my book. And don't skip the toast. They offer homemade jam in blackberry or strawberry, which was such a good little detail. The omelette was hearty, fresh and full of flavor without feeling overly heavy -- exactly what I want from a savory brunch. I chose the Eggs Your Way. I had two basted eggs, bacon, home fries, marbled rye and jam. Everything was hot and delicious. My husband ordered the exact same thing as I did. My daughter had the strawberry caramel pancakes, which she absolutely loved. Our waters were kept topped off and we were checked on regularly. Overall a great breakfast and experience.

I have…read morebeen here recently for several local informational political discussions, hosted by our neighborhood group and space saved for us by the local owners and staff of the Loving Cup. I usually get a hot drink here though I have no need for food at this time of day. They are busy with students on their way to campus and the place has lots of outside space but not more than a small counter, inside. So as winter approaches we will be moving nearby to a hotel lobby that can handle some seated discussions in the morning, once a week. We will be back in the spring when we can sit outside again. It's really nice when a local business steps up to help local groups. I think they will be expanding their customer base by having done this. I see many other customers getting hot bacon and egg options and pastries as well as drinks. Thank you Loving Cup!

I've now visited The Lowdown twice. My expectations for a restaurant that does a little of…read moreeverything are not high, but it was still disappointing. Ratings: Food: 2/5 (ranges from bad 1/5 to ok 3/5) Service: 3/5 Ambiance (patio): 4/5 Ambiance (inside): 2/5 Value: 2/5 First visit. I ordered the steak sandwich, it was OK, not nearly as good as what you can get cheaper at other places, but not actively bad. I'd recently had french dip at Blackbelly Market which was cheaper and significantly better. The rest of my family ordered other things and no one was impressed. Dessert, which we ordered to share, was bad. I took one bite and then said others could have my portion. A month later when our extended family invited us back we were not excited. But we didn't want to be rude and hoped it would be better on a second visit. I decided to go with a burger as did my wife and daughter, seemed the safest choice. My son ordered fish and chips. The burgers were awful, 1/5. We all ordered medium-rare and what we got would have been overcooked for an order of well done - black on the outside, dried out, small patty with no flavor. It was awful, worst burger I've had in years. Fries were OK. My sons fish and chips wasn't much fish, but it was passable, 3/5. The outdoor patio is nice, the drink selection is decent. Service was poor to OK. Noisy inside if you like that, not my thing, but you won't have to worry about being overheard.

Met a friend for lunch and left feeling underwhelmed by the overall experience…read more My friend ordered the mahi mahi and said it was quite tasty. I had the chicken nachos, which were fine but pretty average--not bad, just nothing memorable. Unfortunately, the service was the biggest disappointment. I ordered my nachos without peppers, but they arrived with peppers. My friend immediately pointed it out, but I told the server it wasn't a big deal and that I was happy to pick them off myself. Instead of simply acknowledging the mistake, he responded that it wasn't his problem and suggested the issue was with how I had ordered them. Later, my friend asked about the pie of the day and, after hearing it was apple, said, "That sounds good--I'd like the apple pie." I ordered the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake, which was actually excellent. When the server repeated the order back, he said, "Okay, two pieces of cheesecake." We politely clarified that we wanted one slice of apple pie and one slice of cheesecake. Again, he became visibly frustrated and implied the misunderstanding was our fault. The food was a mixed bag, but the interaction with our server really overshadowed the meal. Based on this experience, I'd suggest choosing a different restaurant for lunch next time. That said, it might still be worth checking out for happy hour or drinks.

For some reason it was topped with whipped cream, and I could hardly taste the chai flavor. I liked the ambiance. It had nice decorating touches throughout both rooms. My family and I went on a Friday morning around 10am and were seated immediately without a wait. The food was just okay. Our group ordered the Eggs Your Way (with Bacon), Full English Breakfast, Corned Beef Hash, and the Tangerine Breakfast Combo. The Eggs Your Way and Tangerine Breakfast Combo are pretty standard breakfast restaurant offerings. Eggs, Meat, Potatoes, Toast. Decent and did their job. The Full English Breakfast wasn't great. The person who ordered it said it was unseasoned and unimpressive. We've had a Full English in the UK - and this is no where near the real deal. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash. It was ok. Flavor-wise, it was seasoned well. However, the corned beef was cut into large cubes. Approximately the same size as a breakfast potato. I wasn't a fan of this rendition. I prefer when it's finely chopped or shredded. This version didn't really feel like a hash. Definitely got the impression this place is hit or miss. Not sure I'd come back personally, but overall it wasn't terrible.
