I've only been 2 times, 1st time I ordered cream chipped beef. No taste except flour. I can give you my recipe, it's the best. Only other place I've ever had it as good was at-Rod and Reel but that was back in the 90s! The second time I went, I ordered fried fish platter. The fish was so fried there wasn't any meat in the middle and it looked like it was thrown in the container. But I have heard from neighbors they like the food, but I won't give it another chance. read more

Came here for breakfast while staying in Deale. Me, my husband, father, and father in law all agreed we really enjoyed breakfast here. They have a nice variety of pastries and breakfast favorites. Everything was tasty and service was fast and friendly. I liked the process of ordering food at the front counter and then seating yourself. The food came out quickly and was brought to our table. A review long overdue! South County Cafe is also the home to Whitman's Catering, and this restaurant is known for their homemade seafood dishes and baked goods. They have a breakfast, lunch, and a daily specials menu, offering items such as breakfast sandwiches, omelets, wraps, sandwiches, and seafood plates. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +the Hot Crab Dip - prepared with lump crab meat and served with sliced baked French bread; was a little surprised at how small the portion was, so it's definitely not much of a shareable app, but for 1 person; the baguette slices could have been toasted more or have been more fresh, as it was slightly stale; the dip itself could have come out more piping out, as I felt that our order has been sitting for a while to be delivered to our table +a Maryland Crab Cake Sandwich - 5 oz jumbo lump crab cake on a potato roll, served with tarter sauce; there were some shells throughout the crab cake, which is a total no-no in my book; it was also a bit overcooked, which took away from tasting the freshness of the crab +the Rockfish Sandwich - breaded and fried rockfish on a Kaiser roll, served with lettuce and tomatoes and a side of tartar sauce; the breading could have been a little less, as it seemed we were eating more of the breading exterior than the fish; this was also overly fried, so the fish was less delicate/flaky +a Memphis Philly - thinly sliced pork butt with grilled onions, green peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, and BBQ sauce, served on a baguette; came with a bag of chips; we weren't fans of this sandwich, as the pork slices had an off-putting odor to them; the bbq sauce was also sickly sweet, so perhaps requesting the sauce on the side would have been better +a Bacon Jalapeno Burger - 1/2 lb of charbroiled beef, served with bacon jalapeno marmalade, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and garlic mayo; served with fries; we weren't fans of the marmalade, as it didn't complement the burger; our patty was also overcooked, making it kind of dried; I think the 'charring' was missed I'm not sure if we didn't order correctly, but we were a bit disappointed with our meals - maybe it was an off day, but we weren't fans. Usually I have positive things to say about SOCO Cafe, not today. Yes, I understand "weekends are busy", but there is no reason an egg biscuit should take 25 min to prepare for a carry out order. To say that 'the home fries are made to order' as justification is just not true. If the home fries were made to order, they would be hot. They weren't. The unpleasant attitude of the young lady behind the counter did nothing so minimize the inconvenience. If i were reviewing her, there would be no stars. She either needs to show up with a better attitude, or find a different place to work. She's a poor reflection of the management. read more

I love this place so much. I get the breakfast all the time. Fast, easy, and reasonably priced. Have probably done 40-50 orders over the last 2 years and only one was missing a single item from the pick up order. I called and they refunded immediately with no issue or pushback. Surprisingly good dinner food as well even though you wouldn't think that was their forte. Give them a shot if yo havent already. Good place read more

Usually very happy but tonight was unpleasant. The place is empty and I still waited 20 minutes for food. Served me a chicken Caesar wrap, but I ordered a crab cake sandwich. Another 20 minutes and they serve me a crab cake sandwich that had a huge bite taken out of the crab cake concealed under the bun. I returned it and the chef told me that's how he checks the temperature. Seriously? I'd really like a better explanation so I can delete this review. read more

This is a cute little breakfast/lunch spot! You can eat inside or outside! Staff were really nice, especially since it was our first time there and not knowing what to order! This was our first time there! We got the omelette with home fries and blueberry pancakes. The omelette and home fries were seasoned well! The home fries had a surprisingly and deliciously slight crisp to it! Normally that isn't expected, but the crisp was a nice surprise! The blueberry pancakes were great! The pancakes were nice and fluffy and the blueberries were fresh and a nice handful in each one! The grits were great and not dry! I hope to go again and try their lunch menu out. read more

4/25 Friday at lunchtime... Very disappointed brought my friends here for a lunch get together after telling them how great the food was including service and dessert. The food was substandard, cashier couldn't bother to be friendly (except when male customer walked up). The woman taking the food to outside tables would yell out names when no one answered she would grumble and get mad. One friend told her these people can't hear u calling because of the wind dahhhh. The salad case had an open back (or left open doors) all of the salads, pasta etc had "skin type look" over them from being in the open air not appetizing or question m...health code violation?. No cover or Saran Wrap on any of the salads! Two friends had steak and cheese subs which had a very small amount of steak (like steakems) could have gone to Jerry's subs and gotten a better steak and cheese. The others had Rockfish sandwiches basically fried so hard the meat was dried up inside. French fries were hot but nothing special just frozen fries. That said, I apologized for bringing group here and we didn't bother with desserts Took them elsewhere for that. The cafe was recommended by a friend so we needed to check it out. The smiling counter service attendant was pleasant and professional. We were asked what garnishes we wanted on our burgers. They were delicious and so were the fries. We bought two cookies, oatmeal raisin and harvest cranberry. They were thick and chewy. So good! Fountain drink selection includes lemonade and Dr. Pepper. Wbith they would change there rice, it's kind of salty p lain white rice with some peas and or carrots cooked in some coconut milk would make these fish dishes much better. I'm an out of state visitor and everytime I come into Deale this place is a must have for breakfast! We had 3 egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. One on a biscuit, one on a bagel, and one on an English muffin. AWESOME! The home fries are not pictured but I can say with all honesty, that these are the best home fries I've ever had! Oh my god. We were in Deale and were looking for a breakfast spot and boy were we in for a treat! I had their chicken biscuits for breakfast three days straight! The oatmeal cookies were amazing, the biscuits were super flaky, the fresh fruit danish was scrumptious. Overall, a fantastic local experience and I would recommend this place to anyone! Frequent this location for lunch and the staff are friendly. Looks as if they all know each other and probably do since the neighborhood seems small and kept to themselves. The cafe is opened throughout the day and has abundant amount of seating. The food here is delicious and comes out in a very reasonable time. My favorite here is the cheesesteak sub with old bay fries. What's cool about this place is that they also sold merchandise from locals such as books by local authors. read more

Food is good. But, recently I experienced some attitude concerning carrying my plate to my yet to be selected table. Granted, the food was ready prior to my nearby restroom exit. Looked very small but quaint from the outside. However, lots of seating in the inside and still very quaint. Both ordered a different breakfast wrap and were very pleased. Food was great. Very fresh! Seemed like lots of locals enjoyed the cafe as well. Always a good sign in my opinion. Went back that evening for ice cream. Portions were small but ice cream was good.
