I went to Mix and Mingle: Coffee and Lounge on a Friday night for my cousin's birthday, and overall the vibe was really nice. First Fridays are clearly a big deal there because the place was packed, the Gogo band was good, and the atmosphere was fun. I ended up sitting at the bar instead of getting a table and ordered a drink for myself, a drink for my cousin, and some shrimp. The food and drinks were actually good, so I can definitely see why people like coming here. What frustrated me was the pricing and gratuity situation. After looking at the menu, I saw it mentioned a 20% gratuity for parties of four or more, so I didn't think that applied to me since I was sitting at the bar with no table. I even asked the waitress if I could order food at the bar and she said yes, but nobody explained there would still be an automatic gratuity added. The drinks were $12 each and the bang bang shrimp were $13, so I was confused when my total came out to almost $50 and not realizing I added additional to the tip. I had to ask for the receipt multiple times before I finally saw the gratuity charge unbeknownst to me. I think the restaurant/menu needs to be a lot more upfront and clear about when gratuity is automatically added... and that's whether it's for First Fridays, live bands, bar service, or anything else. Being surprised by service fees, automatic gratuity or any hidden fee not clearly mentioned, for me, can leave a bad impression even when the food and atmosphere are good. As a small business, there are already stereotypes and complaints people make about hidden fees and pricing, and situations like this unfortunately don't help that narrative. With that said, I still plan to come back because I genuinely enjoyed the music, food, and overall vibe. I just wish the pricing and gratuity policies were communicated more clearly from the beginning... especially in this economy! read more

Ok- so returned here to catch up with my cheersisters for brunch on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. For a Sunday morning, I guess they were kind of busy, with a midday brunch crew but there were open tables to accommodate us. They offer a brunch buffet as well as some items from their regular menu and we decided to just ordered from off regular menu. To start we ordered 2 lattes. Mine a small Oatmilk brown sugar latte with an extra shot of espresso and my friend ordered a sugar free caramel latte with 2% milk. For food, we both went with the fish and grits which was delicious! Fish season perfectly, not to mention HOT and crispy! Would definitely order this again if I ever ventured back here. I also ordered some breakfast potatoes and an order of French toast. For my friend's mini- she ordered off the kids menu and went with chicken and waffles. Was a little disappointed appointed that she wasn't able to order a side of fruit for the mini. Our waitress said it was because it was on the buffet menu but just like I ordered breakfast potatoes, that's also on the buffet menu- it was just a small side of fruit...put some in a bowl and charge us for the side of fruit... Anyhoo- everyone's food came and I was still waiting on my latte....Smh... I mean, at this point the coffee should've been free! We arrived here at 12:30p ordered coffee to sip on while we were looking over the menu trying to decide what to order. My coffee literally came at like 125p. Absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!! My friend finished her coffee before mine even arrived. Our server Taylor was super sweet. Wasn't her fault my drink took so long... On a Saturday morning I just so happen to be kid free and decided to treat myself to breakfast. Mix and Mingle did not disappoint ladies and gentlemen. I had ordered their fish and grit and the tropical sangria. The bartender did her thang and chef's kiss for this delicious food they blessed me with. The tropical sangria was so so so good I had to order 2 and I originally had my mind made up I was just going to have 1 drink. As a bartender myself, she knows what she is doing. Yall go check out sis skills. As for the food, the portions were plenty. I had left overs, enough to enjoy a second breakfast for the next day. Thats called stretching the coin, which is very much appreciated in this economy. The facility is nicely decorated. The bar seating is comfortable with hooks for your purse ladies. We all know we love that. The music is played at a nice level where you can have a conversation without yelling to the top of your lungs. The staff are super sweet. Even the patrons are nice. I had nice little conversations with complete strangers. I didnt know that happens anymore. So that was refreshing to see adults mixing and mingling without the need to constantly check their phones. My type of vibe for sure. Saturdays they allow black owned vendors to setup shop and sell their merch. I would have indulged but I had spent more than I expected on breakfast by ordering that second drink. Btw my total was 55 smack-o-rues. That might be chump change for someone who got it like that but not I. Let me remind you this was a little treat for me. I was celebrating a bonus I received for work. A high five to myself. I finally got to a chance to visit Mix & mingle for the first time & upon walking in. I noticed the nice decoration and ambience. My friend & I stood at the counter because we were not sure or whether we should just sit or wait to be seated. After waiting at the counter and making eye contact with several employees behind the counter we were finally asked. How can I help you? I told the gentleman that this was our first time he quickly told us that they will be closing in an hour due to a private event. We agreed to stay because 1) 25min drive 2) Figured shouldn't take that long to order & indulge. We were instructed to just go sit at a table and someone will be over. After waiting 5 to 7 minutes, No one never assisted us at the table so we chose to sit back at the bar/counter area, where the same gentleman that greeted us when we came in was our server at the bar. He greeted us with "are you ready to order?" Again this was our first time. Menu had appetizers, sandwiches, brunch, etc but never told us what was what. If brunch was still happening, No suggestive selling, nothing. We found out via ig while seated that there was a chefs specials going on for $28 (not listed on the menu) Because I was already rubbed the wrong way, I decided not to walk out and ordered a chai latte and beignets. My friend had the watermelon mocktail beverage both were good hence the 3 rating. The (3) Beignets took approximately 20 minutes to come out when we asked, about the wait, were told that the grease was being changed so there was a delay. They weren't fried fully and tasted like funnel cake honestly. Also witnessed another customer come in and wait 15min to be acknowledged at the counter for pick up smh. All in all, I wasn't really satisfied with my experience as we always love a great black owned business. The Lavender Frost 75 is one of my favorite cocktails. I come here just for that. It's beautiful, it's refreshing... Worth a try. They also sell slices of cake that are actually made by somebody's auntie. None of that commercial kitchen stuff. One bite of that cake takes me all the way back to Grandma's house. During my last visit they had coconut cake (with the pineapple filling!) as well as German chocolate cake. I have not seen a German chocolate cake since my mother made me one for my 21st birthday... A very long time ago. I didn't even think people made German chocolate cake anymore. It looked so good, but I got my sugar rush off of the coconut cake. Hopefully they'll have it next time I come. They also have a small area in the front where they sell all kinds of different things. The last time I was there I believe they had t-shirts, mugs, and a few other interesting things for purchase. This is a great place to kick back, hang out, and really experience community. Most of the staff I've interacted with are friendly, welcoming, and attentive. However, there is one staff member who has been my server every time I've visited, and his demeanor is consistently unpleasant. He is not welcoming, not attentive, doesn't smile, and definitely doesn't seem like he's happy to be there. Because he's not attentive, I often have to flag him down for assistance, and he always responds in a way that feels as though I'm inconveniencing him. This experience is noticeably different from the level of service I've observed other patrons receiving and I hope this is something that can be promptly addressed. This is a local, Black-owned spot, and I loved that they showcase other Black-owned businesses right at the front of the restaurant this was such a nice and intentional touch. The buffet is $44 and includes one mimosa. There are multiple seating options to choose from: couches, bar seating, and traditional restaurant seating, which makes it great for different vibes and group sizes. Service was a bit slow. It took some time for buffet items to be replenished, and I waited a while for cranberry juice refills. I don't think they were fully prepared for the amount of traffic they received, especially with so many large parties. I'm kicking myself for not checking out Mix and Mingle Coffee Lounge sooner. I think the name "Coffee Lounge" threw me off, since I'm not a coffee drinker. Similarly to folks who don't like Cheesecake may not visit the Cheesecake Factory, but I digress..LOL! Mix and Mingle reminds me of a smaller Busboys and Poets, which is one of my all time favorite casual restaurants.. period! Deadset to give this place a try once I discovered that it wasn't like Starbucks, we chose a random Saturday to give it a go. When we walked in, it gave Busboys vibes for real! I loved the local vendor tables in the front, the art work on the walls, and the high industrial ceilings are definitely my thing. Fast and friendly service, Bria took our order within a couple minutes, even though the restaurant was pretty full. Our food was delicious. I had the chicken and waffles and she had the salmon and grits. Mine was very good but her's was outstanding. Bria didn't like the size of the salmon and had the cook bring an additional piece, which was totally unnecessary but much appreciated! I didn't get the opportunity to take any pictures of my food because I was having such a great time and the vibes and drinks were flowing and I totally forgot, but this is one of my go to spots, so I'll definitely be back and I'll provide pictures of the food. The next time that I do go, I will recommend the peach bourbon smash which is delicious and the spinach dip with the shrimp and if you're in the mood for something sweet, the beignets never disappoint. (4 out of 5) I originally did a Google search for beignets because my grandmother had a craving and we love discovering new spots together. That search led us to Mix and Mingle Coffee Lounge, and I'm so glad it did! We visited on a Friday evening and quickly realized this wasn't your average coffee shop. When we arrived, they were hosting a live band, and seating inside was limited due to reserved sections. It wasn't a dealbreaker, though, we were lucky enough to find two open seats, although it was a bit tight and very close to other patrons. So, pro tip: if you're coming on a weekend night or want to catch the band, definitely make a reservation to secure your space. I ordered the Salmon BLT on a croissant. The salmon itself could've used a little more flavor, but everything else was perfection. The croissant was toasted just right, the lettuce was crisp, the tomato was thick and fresh, and the fries were hot and delicious. My grandmother and I also ordered the beignets, and listen, these beignets ... CHEF'S KISS!! Way better than our usual spot. Fluffy, not too sweet, perfectly fried. We've already decided we'll be back just for those. Even though we didn't expect it to turn into a lounge after dark, it actually added to the experience. The ambiance was beautiful, warm, vibey, and grown (50+). We didn't try any of the coffee this time, but I did have a champagne margarita. While the flavor was a little underwhelming, it was still a cute twist and definitely something I would try at home. A huge shoutout to our server, who was super kind, attentive, and patient...especially with my grandmother. Also, love that the space is Black-owned and fully handicap accessible--including the bathrooms and entryway. One thing to note: They do have outdoor seating but I'm not sure if that was their waiting area or if guests were able to dine. All in all, this was a vibe. Would I go back? Absolutely. I really really really wanted to love this place!!!! However, I ended up just liking it. First the esthetics, I really liked the space. I had heard a lot about the diversity of this establishment and it was all true. Full bar, but still a coffee house vibe. The walls are all adorned with beautiful art work. Not sure if the artist is affiliated with the business, but they are an amazing talent. The dining area is spacious. Several tables and chairs. Mix of high top, regular and a comfy looking area with a flat screen fireplace screen saver. I saw musical instruments and a few flyers advertising upcoming live music. We saw people enjoying an afternoon out as well as people with laptops taking advantage of the WiFi. As stated this place offers a lot. Great place to come and hang. We ordered coffee beverages as well as full meals. I got a s'mores latte. It came hot or iced. I went with the latter. I enjoyed my drink, but nothing super special about it. Nonetheless, it came out quickly and I'd order it again. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. They have a full service kitchen and have pretty expansive menu that includes specials. Went with fried fish nuggets to share and I got the salmon fried rice as my entree. Sadly, I was not fan of any of it. The nuggets were way too salty for my liking. Portion size was decent. It was listed as a starter, but honestly it could have been a main especially since It came with fries. The fish itself wasn't bad, but the high sodium level, made this unenjoyable. For my entree I got the fried rice and added salmon. Very lackluster. It was dry and flavorless. Definitely needed some sort of sauce or something to tie it all together. In all fairness, we didn't complain or send anything back. I saw other people eating salads that looked pretty tasty, maybe I'll try one of those, if I'm ever in the area again. I've been to Mixed & Mingle before just for coffee, but my wife comes here on some Fridays with her friends. This time, we decided to celebrate her birthday during happy hour--and it was an incredible experience! There was a live band and a DJ performing, which really kept the crowd engaged. The vibe was lively, with a fun mix of people--mostly an older crowd, but that didn't slow the energy down one bit. What makes this place unique is how it transitions throughout the day. They serve coffee, then shift into a lounge atmosphere with drinks, food, and even cigars. The cigar smoking is done outside, which is a classy touch. Greetings, A dear friend told me about Mix and Mingle in Clinton MD so I decided to check it out. I wasn't sure what to expect when I got there so parked my car and walked into the lounge, I was greeted with the most pleasant and welcoming smile from Paul, he was standing behind the bar, I told him that it was my first time there and he said welcome, how did you hear about us. I told him that a friend said it was a good place. He asked if I wanted to dine in, I said no thank you and he handed me a menu, I glossed over it and spotted one of my favorites; catfish nuggets. I placed my order and as I was waiting, I immediately noticed all of the beautiful art decor on the walls of so many people who have made such positive impacts in the world. It made me smile to see how they were being honored and remembered here. My food came out quickly and when I tell you the chef did NOT disappoint, my catfish nuggets were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and flaky inside. My entire experience that day was amazing! The food, service and ambiance, is incredible and I couldn't wait to come again. Since my first visit, I have dined there three times and received the same outstanding customer service as I did the first time. I came here for a birthday party and it was fun. I like the vibe this place gives off. The Dj was dj'ing last night. This is a nice lounge for a small birthday crowd. They have pretty good drink too. I've come in before and stood at the counter, being ignored for several minutes. I want to go back for brunch. I was here recently for a late lunch/early dinner. Let's discuss the pros of my experience first: food & latte were delicious. I had the Latte with lavender and SF vanilla and caramel. I ate the wings as an appetizer and the lamb chops with broccoli and green beans as my entree. I drank water with my meal. I had to ask for an update. The waitress was nice and was trying hard, but it was evident she was very new. Another staff (owner/manager) brought my food out and the waitress took my order. Service: 7/10. Now to the decor: 10/10. It was a large, but a cozy environment with a huge bar area, art on the wall of famous hip-hop and r&b artists, a faux fireplace, coffee cup display area, and a drum set in the corner. The coffee lounge turns into a evening lounge where they showcase live music. There's enough seating, overall pretty clean. The neosoul music playing in the background was great and went perfectly with the decor and audience. Ambiance: 10/10. My biggest con would be the location. I wish it was closer to where I live. Our server this evening was soooo energetic and personable! (GOOD JOB 'Nita!) I've said this before, we live 7 minutes from here so we want Mix & Mingle to succeed for personal reasons. While en route to Central Virginia from BWI, I called my mom in hopes she could recommend a great place to eat. I was SO hungry and it was rush hour on a Thursday night. She recomended this place. I didn't have a lot of time to wait for an order to be made and was driving so I could not actually research the menu. I decided to try to order over the phone before arrival. I called the restaurant and the staff who answered the phone was SO helpful. She answered all of the questions I had and was able to help me make an order I'd be pleased with. My mother wanted the fish and grits, but I was told that is only served for brunch. They waited for me to call my mom back to get a new order for her. We both ended up getting fish and shrimp. The restaurant is in a small shopping center strip mall on a busy road, but getting in and out was fairly easy. The security guard held the door open for each guest and was polite. It was Karaoke night and those singing could actually sing! My food was ready upon arrival, but they had the most scrumptious looking cookies in the glass display case. I ordered an oatmeal raisin for my mom and a chocolate chip for myself. I should have ordered two of them. My food was seasoned a little too well and I'm sure if asked, they can season them lightly. My shrimp were a little salty, but I still ate them. My goal is to plan to be there for another Karaoke night so I can have the full experience. Definitely a place to try. read more

Mix and Mingle Coffee Lounge is such a GREAT addition to Prince George's County. I saw a post on their instagram that they were having brunch. We cancelled a reservation we had in Annapolis and made sure we came out to support‼ Black Owned Plenty of Parking Cozy and Coffeehouse vibe Black art on the wall Happy Hour is from 4pm-6pm during the week Sunday brunch is unlimited for $40 Brunch includes fruit and coffee Huge Bar Open Kitchen Cute sofas and loveseats DJ started playing after 1pm. Halley was my server and very attentive. For brunch, I had the shrimp and grits. Since it was unlimited, I ordered another round. For mimosas, they had oj, cranberry juice, passionfruit, and pineapple juice. I also had the fruit which was delicious. The service, the energy, and the food was delicious.
