While visiting the…read moreEast Coast we found a location that was close to where we were visiting and decided to stop by and grab a kolache and a glazed donut because we love them and have missed them! This location looked to be fairly new. It was clean, we visited very early in the morning and we were kind of disappointed in the service part of it. The employees were not as friendly and it felt like they were just there to socialize instead of run the business. We ordered 2 jalapeno and cheese kolaches and 2 glazed donuts. Every Shipley's I've visited always gave you hot kolaches and warm glazed donuts that literally melt in your mouth. At this location, this was not the case. The kolache was barely warm which made it nearly impossible to eat since the cheese was not melty and the sausage was cold inside. The glazed donut was not fresh at all. It seemed like it was sitting there for a while, but Shipley's is known for their warm glazed donuts. This experience definitely was NOT the one we expected and next time we will skip visiting here in other states because we know the quality will not be the same as the original!

Was excited to see seeded watermelons and seeded grapes! We also grabbed some jelly's and apple butter. The Apple Butter took me back to Sunday mornings breakfast at Grandmas. The bakery side had a variety of yummy treats from doughnuts, pies, cookies and cakes. Definitely grabbed a few for later. The Apple Pie ice cream my hunnie ordered was delicious. Tasted just like Apple Pie. Looking forward to our next adventure here already.

The woman who checked us out was an absolute delight, warm, funny, and exactly what you hope for at a local farm stand. Unfortunately my experience in the herb section was the opposite. When I asked about strawberry plants and was told they didn't have any, I mentioned I was a first time gardener and asked if she could recommend something beginner friendly. Her response was essentially "just pick something, all you have to do is water them." When I explained again that I was new and looking for guidance, she told me she couldn't help me. As a first time gardener trying to learn, that kind of dismissiveness was discouraging. If it weren't for the lovely woman at checkout, I likely wouldn't return. I ended up going to Ed's Plant World in Brandywine where the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful to a beginner. The difference was night and day. That said, I'm giving 4 stars because the place is really awesome in terms of selection and variety. The woman in the herb section may have just been having a bad day. It's absolutely worth checking out.

I LOVE their steak and cheese egg roll but damnnnn $5 is a lot. I still like their hot and sour soup. The general tso's is my partner's go-to, but it's a solid 3, at best. Occasionally, we will order it and it will be like a 4.5 because they've got somebody in the kitchen who really cares, but for the most part it's just fine. I get the shrimp with lobster sauce a lot because it's one of my favorites and I like the way the flavor mixes with the rice. Their fried rice, as a whole, is not that good. They have a few tables set up inside, I rarely see people eating there, but it's a nice place to wait. I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for my order to be ready, which I greatly appreciate. There is parking right in front and on the side. Evenings and weekends, the front parking can be a little crazy because of the neighboring businesses, but it's still not a huge issue. Honestly, what I appreciate most about this location is the service and the drink offerings. This is definitely the best service I've had at a carryout in this area.
