SOS is right. I called this company late one night after I admittedly lost my keys. They promptly responded but unfortunately the locksmith who showed up proceeded to take my lock out completely and wedged his backpack in my door. Told me it would cost me $695 unless if I "did him a favor". At this point I was just scared so I told him to take $200 in cash and leave. EVENTUALLY he left after I told him I would not do him any sexual favors in return. I am left with no lock in my door. Luckily I have a bolt so I am ok for the night. I am not blaming the company but this man needs to be fired for the safety for other young women. read more

I'd give negative stars if possible... staying at a friend's apartment and the lock apparently froze so the key broke off. It was 25° and 2:30 a.m. I stated exactly what the issue was, and they said it would be $125 to open the door and $45 for the service call. They sent a young, inexperienced hack and as soon as he showed up, he said it would be an additional $200 for a new lock and keys as they have to drill the lock out to open the door (obviously a detail they intentionally left off when we spoke). We haggled, I finally agreed upon $195 for everything, to which the woman then said "plus $45 service fee." I agreed, though feeling like they were totally taking advantage of a crappy situation. He also tried to convince us the top lock needed to be drilled out because it must be locked also. Long story short, 3 hours later he STILL did not have the door open, had totally bent the door and accidentally drilled the threads to the lock cylinder, making it impossible to get a new one in. I said we were calling someone else. He disappeared for about 10 minutes and we thought he'd left, but then he came back with another guy. This guy said he could get it open immediately (but couldn't). Then, the new guy I called showed up and I told them that. They high tailed it out of there, passing the new guy in the stairwell and exchanging words in Hebrew. The new guy literally opened the door in 30 seconds, and had a new lock replaced in 15 minutes. I'd say the new guy was our hero except... Here's the weird thing... When guy #1 was having trouble, he called a few people for help. One of which, my husband noticed the name on the phone was Rami. When I spoke to guy #2 on the phone, he said he didn't work for anyone else, he was a privately owned company. The new guy's name turned out to be Rami. The company sticker the new guy pulled out of his pocket to put on the invoice had an entirely different company name than the one I called. We ended up paying $150 more than the original quote, but it was after 6 a.m. At that point... moral of the story is, the whole thing is a racket. If in this situation again, I'd prob call MonKeys as he doesn't seem to be part of the same crew. Who knows... read more

This review is for 2 services: locksmith and key making. Locksmith: Lost the only full set of keys to my apartment somehow (I know, I should have had another set with someone or at work, but never got around to it; and my super only had 1 key, not both, due to my negligence). I had two locks on my door: one plain, one deadbolt. After turning my purse practically inside out and going back to work to double check they didn't fall out at my desk, it was getting late and I had to call a locksmith. This locksmith was closest to my apartment. He arrived pretty quickly ($45 nighttime service call - reasonable, I think). All in all, the service took less than 20 minutes. My only gripe is how expensive this all came out to be, but maybe that's just how it is?? He took only a few minutes to drill out the two cylinders (top deadbolt $75, bottom $85). Then to replace the top cylinder was another $85. $85?!? Stop right there: I chose not to replace the bottom lock with him because I know that a cylinder costs no more than about $20, so I wasn't trying to come out my pocket any more than what I had to. This all came out to $315.81 with taxes, and that still didn't include replacing all the locks!! He was willing to cut some sort of deal on replacing the 2nd lock, but my super replaced it for free the next day when I purchased the cylinder, and I'm sure whatever deal he was going to give me wasn't going to total out to $20 for replacement. If this is a decent price, then people, let me know, and I will amend my review. Key making: A+ The next day, I decided to make a few sets of copies of my keys so I didn't have to go through this again. The guy was so quick and nice enough to create full keychains of each set instead of just giving me a bunch of keys to figure out (although, I don't know if all locksmiths do that, since I obviously don't make many copies of my keys). We called SOS, since the office was close to our apartment, and although we needed to wait about 40 minutes for the technician to get to us, they let us know how long we would need to wait, and their estimate was accurate. I called them for a quote and someone came the next day. I was so impressed with how quickly they came to look at the job and give a proposal. After that it was all down hill. I had to call several times to request a proposal. I asked for a COI since this job was for a business and was told by Mary that I could get one once a proposal was accepted and a job scheduled.
