I was initially quoted $409, including a $125 service fee, to replace a lock on my apartment door. In reality, the technician only needed to replace a small brass lock cylinder, not the entire locking mechanism. The entire job took approximately five minutes. After pushing back on the price, I negotiated it down to $300. That's $300 for five minutes of work and a basic lock cylinder replacement, after initially being quoted $409. While the technician completed the job, the combination of poor communication, an hour-long delay, and what I consider extremely excessive pricing made this a very frustrating experience.
