I came here on a trip while in NYC and was craving malatang. The pricing is a bit high but after the food came out I could understand why! The flavors are amazing and no sauce is needed. Rose Malatang - 10/10 this is a dry malatang with Rose sauce and it was amazing! Regular malatang - 10/10, broth was different than ones I usually eat and it was very flavorful as well. Broth was not too spicy for mild Would definitely come back again! Service was great as well, they explain everything to you before you grab the ingredients for malatang

Came here for an early dinner and was pleasantly surprised! For a mala dry pot or malatang place, the choices were pretty normal but decent quality. A tip would be to add the shrimp from the self select area, as they are delicious and peeled/deveined already! This spot also makes for a good drinking place, as they offer several specials and a good variety of soju/beer. Service was mostly going up to the counter but was prompt. Would return when in the mood for mala pots!

I visited sorimmara while vacationing in New York and was so glad to see that they had a location near my hotel. I used to frequent the one in Carrollton, TX before they closed down, it was one of my favorite places to get malatang. This restaurant is located on the second floor so you have to take an elevator or stairs to get to it. There appeared to be one person working the front but she was nice and helpful in explaining how the ordering worked for those who have not tried it before. The way this restaurant works is that you can pick the items you want and they weigh it before adding the sauce or soup of your choice. Personally, the malatang soup at a level 2 spice is the best because it is still spicy but not painful. I wish they had a sauce bar where you can make your own sauce like the one back in Texas, but this was still great!

I love dry pot and it's always fun to see different flavors. I got the rose mala xiang guo (level 3 spicy) which was perfect. There was plenty of creamy sauce and the ingredients soaked in the flavor really well. I'd recommend eating it with plain rice so the creaminess doesn't get too overwhelming.

I guess this is a national chain, but it's definitely not up to NYC standards. The Rose Mala Xiang Guo (level 3) wasn't bad at first bite, but got too heavy and rich after a while--not exactly something you want when you're processing Szechuan peppercorns. The Malatang (level 2) was downright disgusting. Meat and veggies drenched in oily chili water with a no blending of flavors--it's like someone took the trash water from a Szechuan restaurant and poured it over my ingredients. I couldn't finish it. Korean mala sounds like an interesting combo, in theory. Too bad Sorim Mara doesn't know how to make that theory a reality.

I came here with friends after seeing it on TikTok and thought that it was okay. The interior of the restaurant is pretty casual and there's lots of table seating. They also have chairs with a space under for you to store your jacket and/or bags are you eat. The menu here offers your own DIY mala or entrees/appetizers that you can order. All of my friends and I decided to do their DIY mala xiang guo. They have a good assortment of different toppings, proteins, and veggies for you to put into your mala. I thought that while the variety was decent, it was less than I've been used to and the ingredients didn't seem as fresh and/or well-stocked. You also order your beef/protein on the side (aka you don't get to add it in yourself). My friends and I got their black mala as well as their rose mala, and both were pretty solid. The only thing that was disappointing was that both of my friends rose mala xiang guo was mixed up with another table. So, they both got orders that wasn't their's. Overall, the food was alright but I just wish the service was a bit more attentive.

Meh... if you're a huge malatang fan, I would recommend somewhere else. I was really excited when this place opened because I used to get the grab-your-own-malatang from Flushing but Flushing is just tooo far. Although the place was clean and the food looked fresh, I thought the whole experience was underwhelming. I got the mild mala xiang guo flavor and my tongue was on fire. I thought the spice was way too overpowering for me to enjoy the food. The lamb was tough and the meal was pretty pricey (I paid ~$30 for my bowl).

I don't remember how many times I have been here. Korean style Mala Soup is their famous soup. You have to pick up meats, veggies, tofus, and noodles then decide which spicy level you want. They will weigh and charge accordingly. A bit pricy but you will not regret. They also have other dishes like Korean Rice cakes, fried rice and other yummy dishes. Relaxed and casual vibes which is good for groups and solo. The restaurant is at the second floor. You can take elevator or stairs. One of the must try if you like Mala.

Mala is one of my favorite foods but this was a very underwhelming experience unfortunately. Interior is great and I love the korea old-school pocha aesthetic but the food was subpar at best. I love adding lots of vegetables in my mala, especially the lotus root because they soak up all the broth but my vegetables tasted very bland and undercooked. The broth itself was good but nothing memorable.

I thought the food here was ok. I went a bit out of hand w/ the selection (meat, noodles, vegs, etc) and ended up w/ a little over 2 lb bowl of things which is a lot of food. We were only able to eat 1 lb. Our bowl of malatang items cost around $60 which was not cheap. The rose sauce after awhile became a bit overwhelming to eat. I like the cream shrimp appetizer & would reorder it. Staff were friendly and nice. Tons of indoor dining.

Mala Xiang Guo (SELF)

We went to Sorim Mara for the first time on snowday. We ordered 4 portions of Mala Xiang Guo separately. They took the plate by the number to cook but the food came out all together (some of the chosen items were missing and were in my friend's plate). It's not worth at all.We talked to the sever what happened but she can't do anything as manager was not there. We paid for each plate by the weight but we didn't get what we should get.

We came on a Thursday night and were seated immediately. We got a rose mala xiang guo (mild spicy) to share and the flavors were amazing! Just the right amount of mala spice and creaminess. Also the waitress was super sweet and answered all our questions with a lot of care. Overall great food, great music, and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend and I will be back!!

My fiance and I decided to try this mala place since I saw it on my Instagram reel. We also wanted to try this place because it replaced the restaurant we used to enjoy very much. Once we walked inside, we were greeted by the server. She explained how to order our food. We get a big bowl and put all the ingredients we want into it. Then we pick the way we want our food to be cooked. We chose the mala original sauce and mild spicy. The price of our food depends on the sauce and the weight of the food. We added vermicelli, noodles, spinach, many different fish balls, lotus roots, and beef. The flavor was pretty good and I'm glad we chose mild because it is a bit spicy. However, we did not like the texture of the beef. The beef was a bit chewy and we like our meat more tender. The selection of meats weren't the best here. They had beef or lamb and that's it. There wasn't a selection of beef either, only one kind (and it was wrapped up in the freezer). It would be great if they offered a variety of different beef like fatty beef, beef tenderloin or etc. When it came to decorations, it was similar to the previous restaurant expected they changed the wallpaper.

The effortless tranquility encourages you to slow down, enjoy the food, and get away from the everyday, hubbub. Their menu leans into fusion dishes with a nod to some of the classic home-style classics. Everything is presented with a refined, elevated touch. Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. With its casual bougie aesthetics, this spot has quickly become one of my favorite eateries in Fort Lee-lee, It beautifully blends Korean, Japanese, and American flavors in a way that feels both comforting and elevated. Needless to say, we will be back!

When we pulled up to the restaurant, we were informed there were a few levels. We went to the second floor and they were happy to accommodate us. We were rolling 6 deep and the booth was enough for us, but barely. In our party, majority of us wanted meat with the exception of 2 people only wanting shrimp and something else. We got the large beef combination platter which comes with ribeye, thin skirt, brisket, marinated kalbi, and marinated chuck flap. Most people stuck with water, while a couple got ginger ale. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

But there's no denying that BCD has upped their soondubu game considerably in the last decade+ with a thicker, more deeply flavored broth, and now easily rivals my longtime favorite and gold standard, the OG So Kong Dong in Fort Lee. Then I stumbled into a hack that changed my view: lunch! I ducked in for a late lunch on a whim while walking by one day, and this turned out to be a much chiller hour, unhurried and no reservation needed. I was promptly seated, my order taken, and the banchan swiftly laid out. The banchan spread is solid across the board (the little fried fish does nothing for me, but seems to be a highlight for everyone else). I especially love the kimchi, near-perfect IMO, and the pickled cucumber. There's a modest lunch discount, which is a nice bonus for someone who likes to order aggressively. I usually get an oyster, seafood, or assorted soondubu (with a raw egg cracked in), danger spicy of course! Or go the C1 combo route with a galbi (marinated bbq beef short ribs) + smaller soondubu. It's an enormous amount of food, so I take most of the galbi home and feel no shame about it. The galbi, by the way, has also gotten noticeably better over the years - meatier, tender, and the flavor is on point. I've also enjoyed their bibimbap, bulgogi, jap chae, and seafood pancake. Finally, let's talk heat - this chili-head loooves fire! And BCD's danger level is one of the rare instances where the spice level actually meets my punishing tolerance for heat, not some pretense at "American spicy.," despite this being a chain. Their danger level actually means business and brings tears to my eyes, literally. It's still not my favorite place ambience wise, and dinner remains a contact sport I've mostly opted out of, as gone are the days that I can tolerate a culinary mosh pit, and any wait longer than 10 minutes (and only for a superlative place) will trigger an automatic ejection of my presence. But for lunch? Unexpectedly great. 4 stars for dinner, 5 for lunch.
