Wagyu & Broccoli in Chubby Bowl
kristin c.

Saw on social media, walked by it a few times, with great yelp reviews so went to try Chubby Bowls. We weren't as satisfied, even with the $4 discount per person they gave us (they had samples of their 2 new dishes outside and got the discount after getting a taste). We got chubby bowls (1 dish, 1 base) and chubby duo bowls (2 dishes, 1 base). Some dishes and bases cost an addtl. charge. The food reminded me of mall Chinese food though. Chow mein and Eggplant dish were oily. I think the Wagyu with the eggplant were the specks. Cumin Wagyu, Sweet and Sour chicken, wagyu and broccoli were ok. Side chick pieces were tiny. Self-serve for fountain drinks. Good packaging - dish was separate from the base. A lot of seating, more in the back. Restroom available.

Delivery order. Missing sauces but it happens. And considering modern food delivery app processes, the packing is on the restaurant so that's a mark on their service. I calibrate accordingly with an understanding of how it would impact food quality. And the food isn't a problem. Flavors are good, and quality of ingredients and execution seem solid. Wagyu seems unnecessary as there's not much space for the subtlety to come thru but I suppose you get overall richness. Standouts are the wings (well seasoned and slightly spicy) and the mapo tofu (well spiced and appropriately greasy. Complaint here is value. The portions are comically small. If the dishes were cheaper there's a good argument for being able to put together a nice varied spread but it's not possible to do solo and at reasonable prices. Unless the in person experience is truly that different (larger portions in person, higher prices for delivery, etc). The value issue is a consistent theme for me with the Chubby group so I'll calibrate expectations accordingly in the future.

Chubby Trio Bowl (Wagyu Eggplant Stir-Fry, Wagyu Mapo Tofu, Thai Basil Wagyu, quinoa rice)
Lila L.

First time trying this place out and got the Chubby Trio Bowl for takeout. I chose Thai Basil Wagyu, Wagyu Eggplant, Wagyu Mapo Tofu, and Quinoa Rice. The flavors are great, taste fresh, and easy to mix with rice. However, the eggplant and mapo tofu sauce was quite oily. At first, I thought my rice was missing but there is another layered part of the bowl under the proteins. They have a cool pick-up system like an Amazon locker where you input your name and the door pops open. The food is in an insulated bag so that's a nice touch as well. Plenty of seatings and very spacious looking forward to my next visit!

Walking past by Chubby Bowls a week ago and decided to give a try. Great concept for Asian quick food. Kiosk order or by the counter and got the food within 5mins. I signed up the member (free) to accumulate points. They also have a paid-membership for discount price of bowls and other food ($4/month?) Nice decor and spacious inside. Many booths and tables. Staff were friendly and efficient. Drink is self serve. You can get any drink and refills. I got a combo with veggie fried rice, premium waygu beef cube, mapo tufu and a drink. Rice is a little hard, prob need to be cooked longer. Beef cubes are great. Good seasoning and cooked nicely (pink in center). Mapo tufu definitely has a kick. It's great to mix it with rice. Unsweetened ice tea is good for the occasion. Overall a solid spot for quick and comfort meal. No drama self service place.

The food is amazing here and ambiance is really nice here as well definitely recommend to come as a date or with friends, service is so good here too!! My only complain is the portion sizes, you pay about 15$ for a chubby bowl and they give more rice than then protein or side dishes..i ordered the vegetable fried rice and the portion was small which was a bummer bc it was good but i rather go panda express for x3 portion for what we paid for but food is great tho just the portions are so small

I stopped by today to take advantage of the Knicks Win promo. Buy one get one free bowls. (No drinks). I was told they opened a few wks ago and still in soft opening mode and need some time to perfect everything so maybe July for official opening You order by kiosks. I already signed up for the chubby club via app So this is like a high end Panda Express. You choose one base. I got veggie fried rice for one bowl. veggie lo mein for another. Then you pick 2 proteins (some cost 50c to $1.50 more). All have Wagyu. I went with the eggplant Wagyu, Cumin Wagyu, Thai Wagyu, mapo tofu Wagyu. Everything is fresh to order so it took a few min. The takeout orders are packed well. Also the bowl container is unique where the 2 proteins are on top in a separate 2 side plate which fits on top of the bowl where the base is on bottom. Thus no sauces are mixed which is clean. I didn't get a drink but large self service area of Chinese sugar drinks. Large clean space in dining room. Well staffed. Food is good. Maybe too rich in sauciness and salty. I liked the cumin Wagyu the most. The bases lo mein and veggie fried rice were actually very good bc they were fresh to order. Pricing is a bit expensive at $14.95 minimum pre tax and tip for a bowl. But it is Wagyu. Note the meat is OK to good quality but don't expect prime aged ribeye here. Gd luck!

I was walking by here on the way to dinner and saw that they had $1 deals for their egg tarts and just had to swing by. The interior of the restaurant is spacious with lots of seating, and it's very lively. We ordered at the kiosks that they had there and also saw that there was a $1 milk tea deal. Of course, we also got that haha. Their egg tarts were actually really good and flaky (I mean, for $1, it's hard to beat). Meanwhile, their milk tea was from a dispenser and was just okay. I'll have to come back for their bowls, which also looked really good (and were under $10!).

Tried Chubby Bowl near Union Square today, and it was a fantastic experience! We ordered two Duo Bowls. One was packed with Mapo Tofu, Black Pepper Wagyu Cubes, and Wagyu Fried Rice, while the other had Chubby Chicken, Thai Basil Wagyu, and healthy rice. The portions are very generous, and the food tasted great overall. Plus, the indoor seating area is surprisingly spacious and comfortable with plenty of room. Highly recommend!

I was around Union Square and decided to tried Chubby Bowls. I love the decor and love the anime-themed vibe. I tried the veggie fried rice with salt & pepper shrimp, chow mein with chubby chicken, and the wings. The chubby chicken was my favorite, the tangerine sauce gave it some sweetness. The chow mein was good, the shrimp was cooked well and the wings were crispy. I also had their refreshing drink selection, it was not too sweet which was good. It a big spot and has a lot of seating. I think people should stop by and try this spot when they are around the area.

I'm impressed by this new concept of a chubby group! I was surprised by how affordable the prices are, considering the high-quality ingredients. The food was good and flavorful, and I wouldn't have guessed it was made by robot machines. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant is spacious and clean. This would be the best fast-food/to-go restaurant.

"Invisible Wagyu" Fried Rice

2 stars for good customer service. To highlight the pictures on UberEats are very misleading. On UberEats Wagyu Fried Rice is basically the same size as the Duo bowl. In reality more like half the size if that. This review is for the Wagyu Fried Rice I had. Original price $9 for overall portion the size of my hand which is still okay if the ingredients are top notch. The moment I opened the lid I thought the little black dots were grinder pepper. No, that was the wagyu. For the tiny piece of it I could taste it was tough to chew on and basically on par with average fatty beef you can find in any supermarket. The fried rice was soggy from oil and texture is definitely not as good as your typical fried rice made with leftover rice from day before. Value wise this should be more of a $3 order maybe $4 if pushing it for the "wagyu" experience.

Takeout
Fay K.

Chubby Bowls makes fresh flavorful Asian food with no additives. The stir fries taste healthy and the vegetable lomein is not greasy. Takeout orders are stored in locked cubicles on the left wall upon entry. To release the cubicle with your food, enter in the first four letters of your first name, or if your first name is only three letters, then also add your last name initial e.g. FayK. The food is packed in a well sealed quality tote bag lined with insulation to keep your food warm. There are plenty of tables to eat in, the space is flamboyantly yet tastefully decorated in red and looks very clean. Counter service is friendly but I discovered them to be careless. When I returned to my office with my order, I found that I was missing two Wagyu fried rice portions that came with my order. I was able to get a refund for the missing items from Door Dash. I would advise you to check your order when picking up.

Friday May 15, 2026 afternoon. Not sure of the ordering process and saw 3 kiosks so proceeded to order from there. I ordered: Cumin Wagyu Thai Beef dish Wagyu fried rice Drink Everything had amazing texture and flavor but, had a lot of oil. My order didn't take long. The place is well kept. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I would come back again and bring some other people. They are in their soft opening stage.

I loved this place!…read more I came here on a late Friday night, probably around 8pm and was glad that they were still opened. We were greeted very welcomely and was seated right away. It was unusually cold in NY during this time (5/23/25) and initially we were seated by the door where we would catch the cold draft every time the door opened. We asked if we can switch seats and the waiter was more than helpful. I feel bad for not getting his name, because he was very helpful throughout the entire dinner service, but, I've been walking around in the cold all day and the only thing that was on my mind at that time, was a nice warm meal. I've done a lot of Chinese hotpots and this was the first that we get the soup and grill without a price difference. The selections were typical, some may say less than other places, but, I felt that less was better. When there is too much to chose from, you don't know what to pick or pick too much. The one thing that I did missed was fresh tofu. They had a variety of tofu but not fresh tofu. But, I probably shouldn't waste my stomach space on tofu for and AYCE, anyway, lol! We opt for an non-spicy and a spicy soup base. If you are like me and do not like mala (numbing spice), I would not recommend getting a spicy soup base. Even my cousin, that does like mala, said it was a little overbearing after a while. If you do love spicy, like me, they have a condiment station to make your own sauce and have several chili options to chose from that is not numbing spice. For the price and selections, I feel that it was very satisfying. I really enjoyed their homemade peach and kumquat lemon tea; but, order fast because once it's gone, you are out of luck! The place was clean and the noise level was average. I think this is the best Chinese hotpot place that I have experienced in USA and would definitely go back!

Decided to check it out when my friend recommended it yesterday. We had a group of 6 and walked in without a reservation around 6pm on Saturday and they were able to seat us pretty quickly by adding a couple chairs to a table, and we got our seats instead of having to wait 15 to 20 minutes for a larger table. Overall, it was a pretty good experience. Staff is really friendly. We got the cotton candy sukiyaki pot, which was awesome. You can see the cotton candy melting on top of the hot pot. They also cook for you so that's great too! We also got a spicy sushi roll combo and that was pretty good as well. And a combo B of the skewers with pork belly, beef, hotdogs, and quail egg wrapped in bacon, shishito peppers and everything tasted good. They also all came in sets of 2 so it was super easy to share with the group. They have amazing happy hour deals, everyday before 7pm, we got a pitcher for $14, enough for everyone to get a cup of beer at the table. This is also at a super convenient location. I'll definitely be back again and bringing more friends next time :)

They also had some peanut, and pickled cabbage snacks, and oranges. We opted for the Mushroom and Beef Tallow Spicy Broths. The Mushroom was herbal-y. The Beef Tallow Spicy had a pretty good kick, so we didn't feel like we needed to go spicier. You can also skim off some of the spicy oil if need be. You do get hit in the face with the spice broth steam, so don't get too close to the broth. It's a good thing the chopsticks are long! They do come by to fill the broths. We ordered off the tablet and most dishes came out pretty quick. The portions are on the smaller, which is good for AYCE. Everything cooks pretty quick too! Everything tasted fresh and of good quality. They have a large variety of meats, seafood, mushrooms, vegetables and everything in between! The Dan Dan Noodles were a big portion and on the blander side. I would skip this. The Herbal Jelly was refreshing, though we had to ask for them to bring it out. Overall, a good spot for a small group for AYCE.
