I decided to surprise my boyfriend for his 26th birthday and take him to Sorellinas for diner. I had stopped in and reserved a table for two a week before the 23rd of December, 2012. They did a very good job at reminding me about my reservation/time/etc via voice mails (not that I would forget his birthday but it was nice to be reminded).
The location? GREAT! Located next to the MBTA, it was a hop skip and step to the front door. We were warmly greeted by the hostess, who promptly took our coats for the coat check and had someone lead us to our table. My boyfriend was in smiles from start to finish (I have to admit the restaurant is very gorgeous...). We took our seats, and shortly after a few minutes our server, Ivy, approached our table. She seemed friendly, informing us of their specials for the night, etc. We started off with a glass of red wine each and oysters for the appetizer... We were both pretty hungry so after she walked away I looked around and saw the other tables had a baguette with butter to ease their stomachs before the first wave of food arrived. Ivy came back to our table, which is when I asked her if we could also have bread.... I guess that isnt something youre supposed to ask for. She instantly caught an attitude with me and said, 'We bring that after youve ordered your entree." I was a little embarrassed as she marched off, glancing at my boyfriend who was still very happy I had arranged the whole thing for him. I myself am also a server at a restaurant in the south end. But I'd NEVER speak to any guests with the attitude she gave... Perhaps she was having a bad night? I dont know. I just wanted everything to be special for my boyfriend. After our drinks arrived, so did our oysters and finally the bread. When we asked to split the Salmon special, she scoffed and informed us that the special was an appetizer... so we decided to split the salmon dinner. She seemed to storm away after snatching up our menus. When the food came out, they were very small portions, but that was to be expected dining at a well established restaurant. The crazy thing is though, we never saw our waitress until about 45 min later through the night... Which was fine with me. When we did see her we asked for two more glasses of wine. Those seemed to arrive alot slower than the first round. I realized what was going on. It seemed like since we wanted to split our entree, our server caught an attitude thinking she wouldnt make any money off of us... Which explains why she didnt make any effort to stop in and check u on us etc. While she was away, my boyfriend and I decided to have just one more glass of wine each and then leave... Initially we had wanted to get a bottle after our first two glasses, and order two deserts. But the rudeness of our server took its toll and helped make our decision about skipping it all regardless. I understand were both young, and we split an entree. But as a waiter, you should NEVER judge someone based off of how they look, nor treat them rudely because you assume they dont have money. Although she sucked, I tipped her 30%, mainly for her "trouble" to have to "put up" with us for the hour we were there.,,, If I decide to take my boyfriend there, I will request to not have her. read more
