In the busy commercial drive neighborhood, there are a mix of free and paid parking throughout the entire neighborhood. The store itself is wheelchair assessable however the tables are a bit close together. The volume in the restaurant is a bit loud at times however, it still allows for conversation with those at the table. We were very surprised by their dine out Vancouver menu. I wanted to take my aunt out for her birthday but options were limited as it was a stat holiday and also a lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays. It was between Pepinos or Sopra Sotto and I made the wrong choice of going here. I ordered their signature Caserecce e Tartufo (truffle mushroom pasta) and Capricciosa (pizza with artichokes, mushrooms, olives, basil). The pasta came out followed by the Calzone Napoletano. I very politely told our server our order was wrong, she got very defensive and repeated herself twice "yes you ordered the calzone." She finally removed the calzone, didn't apologize or tell us when we could expect the pizza we ordered. Caserecce e Tartufo: I love creamy pastas so I really liked this dish! The pasta noodles were cooked al dente and it was flooded with truffle sauce and mushrooms. Capricciosa: their pizza was very mediocre. They were very stingy on the toppings. There were barely any artichokes and they went cheap on the cheese. While I'd reorder the pasta, I'd never come back here again. After getting our order wrong, our server was fake nice/avoiding us for the rest of the night. I asked for a box to pack the rest of our pizza and she brought it over and left. I had to flag her down to ask for a dessert menu. I ordered the tiramisu, hoping she'd put a candle on top, but of course she didn't. (My online reso specifically mentioned we were celebrating a birthday and another server put a candle on the dessert for the table behind us). I asked one of the bus boys for the bill and he was so friendly. Our server really should've transferred our table to her colleague if she was too immature to serve us after getting our order incorrect. Amazing service, food, ambiance, and prices! There are a ton of Italian places on the drive and I'm so happy we checked out this place. Portions are huge so I recommend sharing and trying new things! Caesar was ok. I've had the Caesar from the Burnaby location and it was much better there. Croutons were a bit on the stale side and it needed a bit more dressing. The highlight was pasta. I've never had this type of pasta before. It was perfectly al dente and your teeth sink into them! Add the kick from the truffle which makes this a perfect dish! The mushrooms were perfectly cooked and had the right amount of sauce. We dipped the excellent focaccia in the leftover sauce which accompanied the dish perfectly! My wife and I chose to sit at the bar on a very busy Saturday night, we honestly though it would be a touch quieter than the tables. There was a wedding party going on and it was jammed in here, give credit to the staff working that night, they still managed to make our little date night an amazing experience. We shared a salad, pasta and pizza; this is what we refer to as our 'Triforce of Power' when visiting a casual Italian restaurant. The Toscana Salad was a great starter; Kale and Farro mixed with Tomatoes and a generous amount of what I think is Pecorino Cheese. This salad is premixed and served dressed, it was 'heavier' than I expected but the flavour here punches up very well. Terrific mouth feel, little bit crunchy and toothsome. As for the pasta, we chose the Caserecce e Tartufo. So glad the bartender helped with my pronunciation here because I was certainly doing a handy job massacring the language. The Truffle Cream sauce in this dish was honestly the best I have ever had and it was loaded with mushrooms. I feel like my mouth could freebase the sauce this as a soup or stew. Our final choice was the Amalfi Pizza, as we wanted something more acidic to counter the rich pasta. This pizza shares a number of qualities with a Puttanesca sauce; Anchovy, Capers, Black Olive, Garlic and an actual load of Leeks. Absolutely adored the flavour profile and outer portions of the crust were perfect on the chew. The middle of the pie suffered from the load of oil or brined ingredients making it to wet to handle by hand, used utensils (duh) instead of our mitts. Tight wine selection that won't overwhelm, local beer on tap, bathrooms are shared and clean. Just one last shout out to the staff here who made us feel like family at the bar, thank you! read more

I love this place. We have been three times now (we are new to the neighbourhood) and it is our favorite. Atmosphere is lovely and staff wonderful. But the food, oh the food..... big sigh. So good. The choice of pasta isn't huge. Maybe around 8 (not sure) but each one is just done perfectly. It wasn't too busy on a Monday evening around 630. There are a lot of tables and it was easy to make reservations ahead of time through open table. It took a a couple of minutes to get attention from anyone once we were seated (a quick "hi I'll be with you/some kind acknowledgement would have been nice considering the restaurant was pretty empty and there were a lot of ppl on staff). However once we got our orders in our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered warm olives and a half order of focaccia. We expected the traditional spongy loaf of bread but it came out like a plain pizza/pita cut in triangles. They tasted fine but it was unexpected. I ordered the porchetta e friarielli (boneless pork roast) italian broccoli rabe and my friend had yje Diavola. My pizza was pretty decent but I would have to say the Diavola was a bit better (IMO). I thought the service and pricing was fair; however I live in an area with lots of pizza options and wouldn't necessarily but running back unless I was in the area again. Came here on a weekend around noon, and it was pretty quiet. The restaurant was large and spacious, with a beautiful bar in the back and on the right the pizza oven was on display. A very modern space. We ordered the Porchetta e Verdure and Tagliatelle I'm Sunday Sugo. The porchetta sliced thinly like deli meat and served on a board with roasted zucchini, eggplant, and broccolini and focaccia. It looked amazing, but I was a little surprised to see the porchetta sliced so thinly as it's usually chopped in large chunks... the porchetta was dry, and because it was sliced so thinly the top slices were extra dry and you couldn't taste the seasoning as well (not sure if it was under a heater). It was pretty disappointing that the star of the dish was too dry, but the veggies were roasted well and were tasty. The tagliatelle was so much better. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, the braised short ribs were so tender, and the sauce was so tasty coating the pasta perfectly. I would definitely order this again. I could definitely see this being a great place to hang out wIth friends and have a drink and share some pies. We went to Little Italy for the love of Italian food. We are just walking on commercial drive, no idea which restaurant to pick. Then we bumped to live band performing the hits of 80s. It was really cool, and beside the show we see this restaurant which was getting packed. Thankfully they had a spot for two in the terrace. The restaurant itself looks very chic and modern. The waitress was very amiable. We started with our wine and mocktail for my underage sister. Then we throughly enjoyed our anchovy and truffle mushroom crostini's. Well marinated, spiced and toasted crostinis give you happy smile and satisfaction. Then I got eggplant rigatoni and my sister got bolognese tagliatelle. Pastas were well cooked, they were well flavored, and they tasted so so so good! Updating my previous review! STILL LOVE THE PLACE!!! Finally had to drop by again for more plates of pasta into my body. Visited them again during the phase of our 1st opening, when things were "slowly" getting together, but instead closed again. And tbh, I understood what they meant when they closed again because this place was PACKED to the brim with barely any social distancing happening. I was quite displeased when I saw that happening. BUT, there is a HUGE BUT, once it was after 8:00pm there was NO ONE walking through the doors anymore even though they closed at 10:30pm. Anyways, enough of business talk, lets talk about the plates of food I devoured that night with my friends. We started off the night with some Meatballs, and as usual, their balls were spiced to perfection. And I love their typical tomato sauce. Delicious. Then me and my friends each ordered a plate each and we shared with each other. I ordered the Caserecce e Tartufo (white truffle pasta) and it was for sure my favourite of the night. The amount of stinky truffle in that sauce was just right. I can still taste it right now, 6 months later as I am writing this piece. Gnocchi in Sunday Sugo was what my friend ordered, and the gnocchi was so fluffy, and meaty I enjoyed it a lot. The sugo sauce (Sunday Sauce) was so meaty that the fluffiness of the gnocchi lifted all those mushrooms to the sky. Mushrooms so high that it created colours. The last plate, Spaghetti alla carbonara, is not the worst. I kinda expected my friend to order something like this simple, because he doesn't know what to order. I should have offered my expertise, but knowing him, it's fine. It was still creamy and there was so much cheese and cream on it, I was drooling to eat the other plates more. Truffle pasta: usage of a non "common" mushroom, I'm not asking for morels but even portabello could have enhanced complexity in the dish. Melted cheese on the pizza-probably an extra step since the cheese was on top of the prosciutto which wasn't baked. Maybe pine nuts for the salad. My favourite Italian restaurants on The Drive and definitely in my Top 5 in all of Vancouver. Every time I come into Sopra Sotto, I leave satisfied and well fed. There's nothing like delicious, artistinal Italian food to put you in a nice slumber for the rest of the evening. The decor in here is bright, modern, and romantic. I love the open pizza station where you can see the chefs knead and create your pizza right before throwing it in the wood fired oven. During Covid, they have added more outdoor seating, their indoor tables are all socially distant, there is hand sanitizer at the front of the restaurant, and all the staff are wearing masks. They have a small menu of select pastas, pizzas, and appetizers. However, I'm a big fan of small menus and excelling at every dish versus having a large menu and having a few mediocre items. Everything that I've tried at Sopra Sotto has been ah-may-zing. On my most recent trip, my mom and I came in after a long day of walking around Vancouver and running errands and were famished. We got the vegetariana pizza (roasted zucchini, eggplant, red peppers, cherry tomatoes, olives, parsley, mozzarella, grana) and the caserecce e tartufo pasta (short twists of pasta made fresh in-house, creamy truffle sauce featuring a variety of mushrooms and parmigiano). I'm a huge fan of truffle and this pasta did not skimp on the truffle sauce. It was great because I got to dip my pizza crust into the truffle sauce for extra added flavour. One of my favourite things about Sopra Sotto's pizza is their dough and crust. I'm not usually a big crust person, but there is no part of the pizza left behind when I come to Sopra Sotto. To wash down these carbs, I got the verdicchio white wine (upon the recommendation of our server), which was the perfect pairing. As usual, service was quick, efficient, and friendly. We were in and out of there within an hour and a half and that was with my mom and I chatting for a good 30 minutes after our meal. I can't wait to come back for more pizza and pasta soon. I enjoyed my evening here at Sopra Sotto. The food was good - simple and fresh. We got the margarita pizza as an appie, which was cooked well, had a good dough and crust and just tasted homemade. Every thing tasted balanced. For dinner my friend and I both got pasta. It was a little overpriced for what you got. It was good and you could tell the pasta was homemade, but the toppings were very simple. I got the taglietti ragu. A couple extra touches like fresh herbs or mushrooms or something could have really elevated the dish. Not going to lie though, the one thing that really rubbed me the wrong way, especially being an Italian restaurant was the use of powdered parmesan. I personally thought some added richness would have really elevated the taglietti so I asked the server if they offered fresh shaved Parmesan on their pasta and she said they only had the powdered parmesan and more would be $2 extra. Fresh parm is a staple.... Secondly I asked for a side or marinara to dip my pizza crust in - I was given watered down tomatoes (almost looked like canned tomatoes) that was ICE cold. And then after that they still charged me $2. I dno, those are small things that can leave a sour taste in your mouth. Service wise, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I'm not sure if it's the area of commercial, but I have found a few times now at various restaurants that the servers aren't particularly welcoming, attentive or gracious for your business. The servers were pleasant enough, but things seemed a bit disorganized as we stood waiting to be seated, while the hostess hurried around the room looking for help. After sitting the first thing we noticed was the pounding bass of the background music. When we asked the hostess if it could be turned down she agreed with us but thought it was just the particular track. Unfortunately not so, as the volume steadily increased during our meal to a headache inducing level. Most disappointing was the food. I had a pizza that featured Italian sausage. The pizza was fairly tasteless and there was not a hint of the spice and fennel in the sausage. WOW. I live super close to this place and always saw it while passing by but I never really went in. I went in yesterday (safely) and got their Diavola pizza and Pasta Alla Carbonara. Our server (Danica) was super sweet and helpful and the food was so good. After having lived in Italy, I really underestimated how good the pizza was going to be. Usually when I get pizza here i'm just like, "eh", but this pizza was SO. GOOD. This place is so good and worth going to and 10/10 for service and food. I'd argue that this is the best Italian food I have ever had outside of Italy. You can tell that they use high quality ingredients as well as highly educate their staff. Buonissimo! read more
