This the second time that I needed my PC diagnosed and repaired. The first time my PC desktop was slow to boot up and process activities and Tony recommended an upgrade to an SSD which turned out great. This time my PC was crashing and again Tony figured out that it had corrupted memory cards and replaced them and my PC is working like new (it's ten years old). I seldom write reviews, but in this case I felt compelled to highly recommend Sonoma Valley Tech for all things computer repair. I recently had an interesting problem with the sound system in my relatively new Dell. I wasn't sure if it was an issue with Microsoft, the sound drivers, or the plug-in speakers themselves. Not wanting to unplug all the speakers, I contacted Tony to see if he was able to make a housecall. He was able to come out the same day and was on time. Sonoma Valley Tech to the rescue! My HP laptop fan/heat sink simply stopped working; Computers Corner in Vallejo offered no explanation as to what might be wrong or what might need to be done, and curtly quoted me $120. I had a feeling that I wasn't going to get the service that I wanted there, so after looking up the service manual and realizing that the job required taking the whole freaking thing apart, I called up Sonoma Valley Tech to see if they could give me a ballpark of how much it'd cost me to have someone else do my dirty work. They were super nice and took the time to walk me through a few scenarios of what might need to be done, and gave me a rough quote--which I know is a hard thing to do in the service business because it's all about real time when you work by the hour. I was sold! They cleaned out huge dust bunnies and rocks (rocks!) from inside the fan/heat sink, and voila, the darn thing works! Damage: $70, and they had it done the same day! It may sound odd to give five stars to a shop that could not resolve my problems: a broken Lacie drive internal arm, but it is just what Tony deserves. That, all my future business. After determining he could not help me, which I suspected from my online research, Tony (at my asking) called three different data recovery specialist shops (that have sterile rooms) all over the US. He obtained quotes for me and discussed the specific pros/cons of each place. He then gave me a recommendation based on his experience. We narrowed it down to a facility in Novato. He charged me very little for what would have taken me a lot of time and created a lot of angst since I am a complete technophobe. Tony was calm, knowledgeable, clear and extremely helpful. My computer slowly began having issues and finally crashed. After having a friend who had some tech experience look at it and after spending 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft and not getting it fixed and running properly I called Sonoma Valley Tech. I asked him to come to the house instead of me taking the tower there since it was also having issues with the wireless printer. Tony charged me for an hour up front before he came. At that point I was so frustrated going days without my computer I would have paid anything to get it fixed! I was sure it was going to take hours getting it up and running. He came that day, he was very likable and he fixed it within the hour charge. In fact, he had it in perfect condition within 15-20 minutes!! Now I know why he charges up front. I kept getting the blue screen of death. I ran a memory diagnostic and found out i had a hardware problem - mostly like need to swap out my RAM. I took it to Tony and he ran a full diagnostic on it. He called me that same day to give me an update which i really appreciated. Once the complete diagnostic was finished he called me with his findings - it was more than the RAM, my OS had gotten corrupted by the repeated crashes. He fixed it and my laptop is like brand new. Never realized how poorly my laptop was running until Tony performed his magic. The price was super reasonable too! I will be taking all my computer repairs to him in the future! We've used Sonoma Valley Tech twice over the past few of years. The first trip was to clean up our PC and our laptop, which were both running terribly with constant pop up messages due to kids accidentally downloading viruses. He cleaned both up and added a free anti-virus software to each. Then, a year later, my PC almost died so I bought a new one. He was able to save all my files and load them onto my new PC (which was no easy task because the old PC was barely functioning at that point). He got my new PC up and running. Once again Tony @ Sonoma Valley Tech came through for me in a pinch! When I first acquired my Windows based laptop, I took it to Tony for a general cleanup and clean bill of health. He returned my machine in A+ condition and it has worked great. Now a year later it has become crudded up with viruses and acquired some particularly nasty malware causing it to slow to a crawl and ruin my experience as a user. I thought it was time to add my review to yelp since this is how I found this computer guru. One of the many great things about this business is that he actually does the work. My computer isn't sent to another part of the county like the big name stores. He takes pride in his work and he's super efficient and knowledgeable. Your computer doesn't have to broken, he also does tune ups. I was told by my cable carrier that I had a modem/router issue. After two trips to Petaluma to get new equipment and several hours on the phone with their techs they decided it was actually a computer issue. I called SVT and Tony had me bring the computer right down. I was pleasantly surprised when he called me just over an hour later to tell me it was ready to go and repaired! WOW--where else are you going to get this service? He explained what he found, although it was over my head. All issues resolved. I was almost afraid to take it home and hook everything back up, but he actually told me to call on his cell phone if I was having problems.
