In the process, I took all of my family's numerous USB(A)-Lightning charging cables to my local environmentally friendly recycling center. A week later, I realized that my cordless keyboard and cordless magic mouse both still need to be charged using USB(A)-Lightning cables. Duh! Groan. I had moved to Sonoma where I discovered that there isn't an Apple store nearby. For several small issues, I've had to drive an hour to Apple Corte Madera or waited until I needed to go to SF to visit the Apple Chestnut Street location. Both tend to be crowded. I drove an hour to Apple Santa Rosa, but their staff left me underwhelmed. I couldn't find a used USB(A)-Lightning cable on FaceBook Marketplace that was near enough to me. My environmentally friendly recycle center in San Rafael (Renew) isn't open on the weekends, where they also sell a variety of used cables. ChurchMouse in Sonoma didn't sell the right type of used charging cable. So ... I drove to Apple Corte Madera, where the salesperson *ostensibly* listened to my problem and then promptly sold me the wrong charging cable. They sold me a USB(C)-Lightning cable, insisted that it was the correct solution for what I needed, never asked the year of my destop Mac (it's on their system), the year of my laptop (it's on their system), or what kind of Apple block plugs I have at home. Spoiler alert ... I now realize that they are all USB(A). Rather than drive to Corte Madera AGAIN, I wisely tried out cafeMac on Broadway in Sonoma. BINGO. The owner and staff members are super friendly and understanding. They are great with tech. They are good listeners, unlike some of the staff at Apple stores who are young, new, overly confident (and sometimes wrong), and constantly trying to sell me additional things that I simply don't need. cafeMac happily offered to exchange my "wrong" USB(C)-Lightning cable for the "right" USB(A)-Lightning cable, at no charge. I asked if they needed my receipt to show that I'd bought it directly from an Apple store just a few days prior. They didn't need to see it. Their customer-oriented attitude and friendly nature immediately put me at ease and make me want to come here for all my Apple tech problems and purchases! Their location on Broadway is excellent and street parking is easy. Kudos to owner Jim Witous and his excellent staff for such a smart idea -- providing real service to a geographic area which is not served by Apple. I am so glad to see cafeMac able to service the many Apple users in Sonoma and Napa. I was surprised when I moved here to Sonoma to discover that Apple has no store in either Sonoma or Napa and has no plans to service these areas. I'm proud to support my local stores and impressed with their service attitude. Sonoma Proud!

Director). From the other reviews, it seems you will either luck out and have a positive experience and give them 5 stars or more likely have a horrible experience, give them one star and never come back. I used to use them for my network support at my office and I purchased one of their own branded PCs. It was pricey, but I thought I'd get good service when I needed it. I am qualified to do all of my own technical support, but am too busy and wanted their help. Since I didn't want to drive to Santa Rosa or Marin, I went in a couple of times and was generally happy. Since I have worked in the Silicon Valley in the past, I thought that the owner, Chris, was just a quirky techy guy. Once, I needed to connect to one of my PCs remotely, and had no time to research how, so I paid them to handle it. After they charged me hundreds of dollars to come out on-site and install some third-party software that never worked, I found out that Remote Access was a free, built-in feature of the Windows operating system, so I stripped off their product and set it up myself. My "final straw" happened when their PC started making a very loud whining noise. I wanted to have them look at it, but couldn't afford to be without my workstation for days. I called and explained the situation to one of the technicians. I asked how busy they were and was told that they were days out in getting to repair PCs. I asked if I could "get in line" before actually bringing the PC in. Since it still functioned, I didn't see the point in my having to do without my PC while it sat on their shelf for days until they could get to it. As a repeat customer, this did not seem like an unreasonable request. He said to stop by in a couple of days and he would take a look at it. I went in two days later. Unfortunately, Chris was the one at the counter and I couldn't talk to the technician I had spoken to on the phone. When I explained my situation, Chris flew off the handle, shouted at his employee and then berated him in front of me, demanding to know if he had promised to allow me to "cut in line" in front of the other customers that were waiting for their PCs so that he could look at mine. I felt really sorry for the employee. After I had had enough of listening to his tantrum, I said that I would just take care of it myself. "Good luck with THAT" he shouted at me as I walked out of the door for the final time. I had to work on a Sunday, but I went to Fry's Electronics and got the replacement cooling fan that was causing the problem with no downtime of my PC. I like to shop at local Sonoma stores. I don't expect the best prices, but I expect good, personalized service. If you decide to go ahead and risk a very unpleasant and unprofessional experience, be sure to rent the old Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" episode so you'll know how to behave as a customer of this place.

Not this time! It would not boot in spite of more than 6 hours of DIY recovery attempts. I found Napa One with a Google search, and sent Don Hirsohn a detailed email describing the Mac, OS, and problems. I asked if he could restore it and recover 650 GB of applications and data. He replied immediately that he could do that, and I arranged to bring the Mac to him in Napa the next morning. He was able to reboot the Mac that day but determined the HDD was failing. He recommended replacing it with a 1TB solid state drive. The drive was ordered and received in 3 days. Don then restored the Mac from my TimeMachine drive. The Mac is working perfectly now with all files intact. A lifesaver! Loading apps and large files is noticeably faster with the SSD. Some apps required recertification, and he advised me how to do that for my Microsoft Office products. He also made a bootable USB drive as a savior for any future recurrences. Don was very knowledgeable about the problem and very responsive. He charged a fair price for his services and for the new drive. I am 100% pleased and I recommend Don highly. He is now my go-to person for any future Mac issues.
