My 2010 27" iMac was becoming unresponsive while typing emails, and I shut it down with the power switch. This also happened about a month ago, but I was able to reboot in Safe Mode. Not this time! It would not boot in spite of more than 6 hours of DIY recovery attempts. I found Napa One with a Google search, and sent Don Hirsohn a detailed email describing the Mac, OS, and problems. I asked if he could restore it and recover 650 GB of applications and data. He replied immediately that he could do that, and I arranged to bring the Mac to him in Napa the next morning. He was able to reboot the Mac that day but determined the HDD was failing. He recommended replacing it with a 1TB solid state drive. The drive was ordered and received in 3 days. Don then restored the Mac from my TimeMachine drive. The Mac is working perfectly now with all files intact. A lifesaver! Loading apps and large files is noticeably faster with the SSD. Some apps required recertification, and he advised me how to do that for my Microsoft Office products. He also made a bootable USB drive as a savior for any future recurrences. Don was very knowledgeable about the problem and very responsive. He charged a fair price for his services and for the new drive. I am 100% pleased and I recommend Don highly. He is now my go-to person for any future Mac issues. read more

A Rotten Apple I came up to Napa for the weekend and realized I left my Mac power cord at home. I Googled and found Napa One, the only local Apple sales or service place for miles around. Don, the owner and only technician, said he had a power cord that would be $70.04 with tax -- and he'd leave it on the porch. It's just about what you pay at the Apple store, so I went for it. I took a Lyft to his cute Victorian house, grabbed the cord off his porch and left the cash. But the cord he sold was used and scratched up and it didn't have the long part of the cord with the 3-prong plug. I called and told him I was disappointed with the purchase and tried to negotiate a lower price for a used half-cord. He refused and said I could take my money and go to Apple if I didn't like it. Not at all what I would expect from a small town business man or someone using the Apple name so liberally. I would stay far away from Napa One. read more

From the get-go, he was a very clear communicator relating his availability, process, and pricing so that we were both standing on the same ground. Napa One, from the outside, looks like it could fit in the Rose City (Portland, Oregon), since it's in a beautiful converted Victorian with a home office. When I had problems with my computer's video card, Don came to the rescue. I was without a computer for a couple of days, so I had some computer detox. Going to him was far more reasonable than heading out to the Apple Store in the other Rose City (Santa Rosa) He found the answer to my problem, charged a reasonable price, he even came to my place to install it. My personal laptop badly needed more memory space and I was able to drop it off on a Friday evening. I have had 2 different computers go through his business. 1.My laptop-It was shutting down for no reason, he said I needed a new hard drive for $250. My computer still shuts down almost daily! He has not even offed to look at it. 2. A Desktop-I just wanted to have a DVD player installed since my old one died. $200 later and my computer doesn't see it. I was horrified when I noticed my screen strangely flashing during a storm while working in my studio -- and realized a co-worker had left a ceiling vent open so that rain was falling on my keyboard.
