I hired CEG in the spring for my studio's urgent digital maintenance needs. I paid $1,000 for a "full assessment" and a recommendation for a new RAID system (a $10K+ emergency). The service was an absolute failure: Zero Urgency & Unprofessionalism: It took MONTHS--not days--to get an equipment estimate, despite being hired for quick response. There were constant delays, missed deadlines, and all-around poor communication. Hidden Fees & Massive Overcharge: Their final quote was a shocking $19,000--nearly double the initial estimate. A closer look revealed an undisclosed, hidden surcharge on all hardware, and $1,600 more than B&H Photo for the main RAID system. Rude Management & Illegal Practices: When I called to question the surcharges and ask for my $1K fee back, the supervisor was rude and condescending, defending the "normal" surcharges. Admitted to Illegal Recording: Most alarmingly, the person I was speaking with admitted on the call that he was illegally recording the conversation without my consent, only stopping the recording midway through. As California is a two-party consent state, this is a clear violation of state privacy laws and demonstrates a complete disregard for ethical and legal business conduct. I would advise everyone to steer clear of CEG. They overcharge, hide fees, lack professionalism, and engage in deeply questionable business practices. Jim G. read more

I had reached out to CEG to replace an iPhone battery (thought it was swollen), they quickly got me in the same day for a drop off repair. Ends up it was the screen that had come detached and needed replaced. Unfortunately the cost of the repair was more expensive than the worth of the phone. So they were able to put it back together, better than when I dropped it off, and didn't charge me anything. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and courteous, definitely first class service. I went in for a screen repair and although the staff was welcoming and friendly, they quoted way more than Apple or Best Buy directly to replace my cracked phone screen. Almost double the cost and all companies offer same day repair (CEG said minimum of a few hours working time). So needless to say I went elsewhere. read more

I purchased an iPhone 12, my iPhone 7 had completely died. I was unable to transfer my photos to my new phone. I thought it was the battery, I took it to the geek squad and they told me they could do nothing with it and that the board probably failed. I was very disappointed thinking that I lost all my recent photos! I went to CEG, they determined that it was the battery, replaced the battery and then transferred all my photos to iCloud and then to my new phone! Long story short, my husband was reconfiguring a brand new tower computer (Alienware by Dell) we just bought to make it work great by installing extra fans, & upgraded products into it. This is on Friday night. Wound up with it not working. Panic setting in bc he needs this to work immediately due to work commitments. After reading many positive reviews about CEG, I phoned their Napa office to get a quote for replacing a MacBook battery. I was told I had to pay a $75 diagnostic fee, even though all it needed was a new battery. I was verbally told the battery replacement would cost $165, which would also include a new cable. I brought the laptop in to CEG and paid for the $75 diagnostic. Three days later I received a phone call, stating the battery replacement would cost about $380 (I was so surprised I did not remember the price exactly, but it was at least that). The tech said perhaps I had originally been quoted for an after market battery. He said he would check prices and get back to me. A week later, after not hearing from CEG, I phoned them. I was told the original quote had mistakenly not included labor. They offered no recourse -- after shelling out $75 to find out my perfectly functioning laptop was working fine, and being quoted $165, because that number was a mistake on CEG's part, it was up to me to pay the more than twice the battery replacement price. I expressed dismay, and picked up my laptop. I am going to another repair shop to get my laptop's battery replaced for less than $130. I am disappointed CEG would not honor the quote they gave me. read more

The battery on my I-Phone 7 died, 3 months after I just finished paying it off. Its 3 years old. My first thought was "Here goes another grand for a cell phone!" I asked around, the guys at Verizon said I had to see Apple etc and then someone told me about CEG. Easy to find in Napa, I went there immediately. I walked in cold, no waiting. The tech I spoke with said he could change the battery and also suggested I change the cracked screen on the front. (I'd been putting that off for a while). The price he gave me for both fixes made me blink, pleasantly, no happily surprised. I left my phone with him, ran a few errands around town and went back about two hours later. My phone was done, the front glass was replaced, new battery was in and all my stuff was in tact. It was that simple and cost me more than 10 X LESS than the price of a new cell phone. Broke my screen on my phone... the worst. I've always seen this place driving down Silverado trail. I originally took my phone to staples to get it the screen replaced, but bad customer service lead me to here instead. Called in the morning to get a price quote. They said they could take my phone right away. Dropped it off, and within 2-3 hours, it was finished. Brand new screen, and it wasn't overly priced. Oh my. What a wonderful place. My fairly new laptop was acting weird and the screen was all wonky. I walked in with a pit in my stomach because I was expecting to have to pay like $200-$500 in repairs because my dumba** didn't get Apple care. They were very honest with me and quite funny. They plugged it in to some monitor and poof- it was fixed. Granted, not every case is like this but I was so impressed with their professionalism and helpfulness. Beware CEG in Napa for phone repair. I brought my phone to them to replace a cracked iPhone screen at 11:40. I was told it would be ready by 1:40. As I don't live near Napa, I spent 2 hours killing time. I arrived back at exactly 1:40 only to be told they hadn't even started on on the repair. They had my cell number, but neither phoned nor texted to let me know it wouldn't be ready on time. Extremely poor customer service! read more

A couple of years ago my I-Phone's battery was failing. A Google search found Computer Engineering Group (CEG). I went to the store and the tech said they could replace the battery- no problem, but I would have to leave it for a couple of hours. I explained that could be a problem for me and the tech then said to wait a minute. About 15 minutes later he came back and said, "OK, you're all set". I was amazed. For less than $35 a new battery installed while I waited. Fast forward a couple of years. I had a lap top that was not working properly. I took it to their new location on Soscol Ave. I left it there and they called the next morning, all fixed. It was a hard drive problem and some other issues. Again, fast service and reasonable price. Recently, my desktop was very slow, skipping and dragging. I took it in and had a new digital hard drive installed, cleaned up all the junk and had it running like brand new. I got it home and the skipping problem came back. I called and the tech did a remote to check it out. Discovered it was a poor connection with my key board and wireless mouse. We rearranged the connections and no more problems. This post has been updated below: Seems like a pattern of handing over damaged goods to customer then blaming customer for the issue. Been reading other reviews with similar experiences. I spent$200+ to replace cracked screen. When I got home I removed film they installed I found the crack in the new screen. I went back in immediately two weeks ago still waiting for manager to review his internal video he said he could see his employees handling my device. Two weeks no call back so I telephoned two days ago. Still waiting and waiting and waiting. I originally brought my iPad in three weeks ago. I've been three weeks without my device. I'm actually going to screen capture this to see if it stays on the review board. My review was intercepted by the store owner who found my iPad on the shelf fully repaired. I recently took my older HP laptop in since it was no longer working and I needed to remove some personal records off it before I gave up on it. Came here for two issues, one my computer kept booting up into the blue screen of death and my cell phone screen was cracked. I was a little shocked that they said there was a charge just to look at the computer, without any promise of being able to fix it but as it was my only option I agreed. Thankfully when I came back they went ahead and had already fixed the problem without charging me for that as they informed me it was an easy fix. My cell screen was done fairly quickly but once I got it home the screen was flickering badly and not responded to touch in some spots so I called and they said to come back the next day. Free of charge they replaced the screen again, and this time it worked like a charm. So while they got the job done for me and were very polite and professional I would have preferred to only make one trip in and be without my phone for a couple hours instead of it turning into a two day thing. read more

I had a problem with my "fairly new" 11-month-old HP laptop after trying to install Microsoft 365. I brought the laptop to CEG and was kindly greeted by one of their technicians, Mohammed. After explaining the problem, he was quick to notice the issue could be the hard drive, but a complete diagnostic would need to be completed. The following day I received a phone call with a very reasonable quote for a hard drive replacement, data transfer, etc. So, within 48 hours my laptop was returned to me in perfect condition, and it appears to be running so much quieter than when I purchased it. But didn't receive any info or anything about it tell I called at330pm and was told the guy who is fixing it is on lunch and will call me back and let me know what going on . I am doing a repair on an iPad and and needed Tesa tape, double sided tape, to complete the repair. I called CEG to see if they would sell me 1/2 inch of tape. They said that they have the tape but since they do that repair they will not sell me the tape. I was quoted $49 to put on 1/2 inch piece of tape. A yard of the tape is $9. The gentleman I was speaking to was courteous and directed me to Home Depot for the tape. They don't have it but I appreciate the attempt. I will take any of my future business elsewhere. iPhone I got on Craigslist worked fine for a couple hours then the headphone jack caused an error making it think the headphones were plugged in when they were not. Google and apple support forums indicated a need to replace the headphone jack and cable (includes the lightning cable?). I was surprised that a Napa repair shop offered the same price as their competitors in Fairfield and nearby at $49.99 (the part and the repair). They estimated 1-2 hours for the repair and said to come in any time (after they confirmed they have the replacement part on hand). The headphone jack issue resolved itself (luckily) but I was happy dealing with the staff here quickly and with the best price from the dozen shops I contacted.
