1/2020: Update and edit: Tran suggested cloning my old HDD onto an NVMe SSD drive to put into my desktop. What a remarkable difference in speed, and it isn't subtle - one could fairly say that it almost flies! Less (!) than 30 seconds to completely boot. I'm impressed. Impressed enough to have him add an NVMe drive to my son's laptop. Santa Rosa Computers is still the best place in town. 8/2016: Perhaps the best computer repair and upgrade center in Santa Rosa, with lots of parts and equipment available. Often as cheap as Best Buy, and the quality is *easily* as good. Of note, a few years ago my son spilled his beer onto (into) his laptop, causing it to have some problems (LOL - but not really). I thought spare parts were the only thing that were going to be pulled from it, but I called Tran, who agreed to try to fix it. A few days later he called to say he was finished, and it was working again. Holy crap! The only downside he said, was that he couldn't get all of the beer smell out of it. That did make me laugh. More recently, I brought my custom gaming box into him to troubleshoot. I was out of even the extended original warranty, so no harm, no foul. Seems that the sudden, intermittent, increasingly frequent shut down/restart problem was due to a bad motherboard, and maybe the not well carried off overclocking from the vendor. Literally a solid weeks testing, for about $80 - that's a bit of work, and a good deal to me. I replaced the MB, RAM, and CPU with exactly the options that were on the website at the company that put it together. In fact the CPU was unlocked, which increases my options. Took my HP laptop to SR Computers to have a larger hard drive installed. I paid the extra $50 for expedited service and I received a call back within an hour of dropping off my laptop. Unfortunately, I provided a mechanical drive instead of the solid state drive that needed to be replaced. I order the correct drive and returned to SR Computer with the solid state drive. They waived the $50 expedited fee this time in recognition of the prior related service. I had my laptop back in about 4 hours and it worked as expected. I recommend SR Computers as being reliable and friendly. read more

Took my laptop to geek squad at Best Buy where I bought my computer three years ago but the guy said because my issues seemed to be hardware related they would have to ship it out for diagnostics/repairs and it could take 3-4 weeks. He recommended Santa Rosa Computers and I'm so glad he did! In 4 days they fixed my audio/video problems, got rid of some malware, set me up with new antivirus software and upgraded my driver. Recommended to me by Best Buy (interesting and very confirming), I hustled over late yesterday when my laptop went suddenly and mysteriously dark and I couldn't revive. I pulled into the parking lot a few minutes past 5pm, door was locked, but Thomas (technician) was heading to his car and said "how can I help?" I explained the situation, he took notes, and said "let me take this now and I'll work on it first thing tomorrow." His kind and calm nature was what I needed more than anything. (Like many people, my laptop is my livelihood.) He called me this morning with a plan in place and I had my laptop in hand (and improved!) by noon. I stopped by yesterday to see if they could fix my laptop that would no longer close. They could fix it but would have to order the new part from HP. I didn't want to spend the money because for a couple hundred more I could buy a new laptop. But I was really impressed with these guys. They took the time to take it apart to investigate the trouble and explain my options. Even though I decided not to have it fixed, they put it back together even better than it had been. Prompt service, knowledgeable and courteous. What I like the most is that they focus on what you and your computer need. My screen did not work anymore and I could not log-in. The quote for a new screen was about $ 250. Better than to replace my 6 year old HP lap-top. They even told me that the laptop should be good for another 4 years with the Intel core I7. After that the Windows software would not be supported anymore. After the diagnostics Hubert called me say that one of the memory-sticks failed. To replace it would be $ 150. And he suggested to do some cleaning and tune-up - no extra charge. I could pick up my computer that afternoon. I am very grateful, this business exist and that I found them. read more

Another well deserved 5 star review. Fast, professional service here. If you're merely a computer operator and not a techie, don't worry. The folks here will not treat you like an idiot. My computer hard drive died seriously. Abandoning neatly a trillion bytes (4 years worth) of highly important financial and business information. Initial prognosis was not hopeful. But the guys literally pulled a magical rabbit out of the hat. All the files were miraculously saved and transferred to a new disk. Downside was that the initial price quote for a new hard drive and only one hour of labor was $149. But 4 hours of hands-on labor was required to save the data, which bumped my final bill to just under $400. And to their credit, as an alternative, I was offered a completely new PC with a much faster CPU and Windows 10 for just $275. So I appreciate that they tried to save me from spending too much money. (My wife wanted her old computer back with Windows 7). This place is a top notch team that can solve your most thorny PC problem. Highly recommended! read more

First, I have to mention that I am thisclose to 60 years of age; I type this because whenever I patronize a business (eSPEcially one that deals in such "Modern items" as computers, lol), I'm always relieved whenever I am treated as someone not-as-old as I am. Can you imagine yourself working at a high-tech, hipster-staffed establishment and being filled with dread as some ancient Dinosaur fossil walk through the door and approaches you at your counter? Well, I can assure you that this sort of thing won't occur at Santa Rosa Computers. The owner, Nam, clearly knows how to run his business, and I'm hopeful that he can find a way to retain such gracious and with-it employees as Chris and Fernando. I recently endured a long, drawn-out process with a Dell desktop tablet that had to be sent to Texas (where the fine folks at Dell seemed to have COMPLETELY missed the mark due to their ineptitude and embarrassingly poor customer service). Long story short, I received my tablet (shattered) from Dell, two weeks later than the two-days promised by the gang in Texas, and the kicker was that they removed a small component that plugs in to a USB port, one that allows the tablet to talk to my wireless mouse and keyboard. Now, I have patronized Santa Rosa Computers many times in the past, and thought it was worth a call last week to inquire if the component just might be in stock. To my delight, it was, and I even received instructions over the phone regarding the steps to take to insure that all would be restored to "Normal". I thought nothing of the call, said "Thank you" and disconnected, knowing I would stop in sometime in the future to pick up the item if it were in stock. And I did just that. I stopped in this morning and was met by both Chris and Fernando at the counter. I, of course, explained my predicament (again) and described the piece that I needed, and without missing a beat, Fernando asked, "Oh, are you Chris from the Sandman Hotel?" and I was surprised enough that I raised my eyebrows so high and so quickly that I thought they'd flip right off my forehead and hit the wall behind me. Thinking that I must be some sort of local celebrity, I smiled and said, "Yes", at which point Fernando retrieved the very component I requested from a special spot behind the counter. I was stunned. It would have been enough to have simply been remembered, but to have the very item I requested nearby without having to request that service stunned me. I've been a Chief Concierge for about a thousand years and this is the type of service for which I worked to instill in others. I wish that I had had gentlemen like these two on any team at any hotel in which I worked. They seem to care about the quality of the work that they do, and people like me notice and appreciate that. I cannot recommend Santa Rosa Computers enough: Prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, totally hip...and they ever treat me like the old codger that I am. I'm extremely happy with the service I got. I brought into their shop an old HP server that wouldn't boot. We had important information on that server that resided nowhere else (shame on us!). I had low expectations because the problem was complicated; and we didn't have any of the configuration information for the RAID drive. HP was of no help at all. And we ran the risk of losing everything if we weren't careful. Nam was careful and systematic, and avoided all the big 'gotchas'. Within a few days he was able to fully recover our application server. I then brought in our old NT primary domain controller and he fully recovered it too. Not only is Nam technically very strong; but his communication with me was exceptional. He let me know what my options were, what the risks were, and his recommendation. When we hit the inevitable bump in the road, he was proactive in reaching out, and he outlined my options. Within a few days he was able to fix everything! This is just an FYI for anyone considering using Santa Rosa Computers for data recovery. It appears to me that it is a good computer store for most needs and has a great selection of desktop computers, peripherals and also a huge inventory of refurbished parts, which is hard to find these days. The staff was polite and attentive. I brought a failing drive in for data recovery. According to the tech, the drive needed to at least be mechanically spinning. (in my case it was still spinning fine, but no longer able to boot up and Windows said it was unreadable most of the time). The tech said that even if they were not successful in extracting any data they would have to charge me a labor fee. After a few days of waiting I called to get a status update. I was told that the drive had failed. They said after many attempts, they were not able to get any data off the drive. The drive was still running mechanically fine (spinning and seeking). I paid the fee, which they reduced a bit which was nice. I appreciate that. So I brought the drive home and researched data recovery software, read some reviews online, and bought for less than $100 a software utility called Mini Tool Power Data Recovery. It worked by ignoring the Windows "drive unreadable would you like to format?" message and proceeded to scan the drive and create it's own directory of the drive. I was able to save all my recent data that had not been backed up, to a new drive. It took a number of attempts (the bad drive would give out data for about 5 minutes and then I would have to come back and re-run the utility again later when the drive had cooled down). It worked. What a relief. In retrospect, from what I could gather from talking with the tech, he had hooked the drive to a Windows PC and tried to clone (copy the entire 500 gigabyte drive) to a another drive. While I appreciate that approach if successful, it shouldn't have been the *ONLY* approach. As it turns out, there are other approaches, that can have better success than cloning (trying to copy the whole drive). Anyway, that was my experience for better or worse. read more

Unbelievable ordeal. I brought my almost new $1800 laptop into this store because it crashed and I wanted to try to save my irreplaceable family photos. As things go sometimes, while it was in this shop I had a series of tragic, life changing events occur in my life. So I was unable to go pick up my laptop for about 4 months. When I went to get it they told me I was too late. They "donated" it. My family photos are gone, FOREVER!!! My expensive laptop, gone! To add insult, they actually expect me to believe they "dontated" this beautiful, fully functional (after they fixed it) laptop to charity. HA! How dumb would that be? You can bet it's sitting in one of their employees home and they are laughing all the way to the bank. When I asked them how they could be so cold and heartless the answer was, "we don't have the room to store a laptop past the past the 60 day pick up window". Have you seen this store? It's huge, with room to store a mountain of gear. Yes, it was my fault for not calling them back. It was my fault for not picking it up in time. But would a bit of a grace period really hurt them? Why couldn't they charge me a storage fee? ( I think they just wanted it for themselves.) Would a couple of extra phone calls really been that difficult? Not if they really cared about their customers. What they did was opportunistic and wrong. The owner should be ashamed. read more

Being a non-tech person, I have a degree of anxiety about having anyone work on my computer. I had read all the great reviews on Yelp about Santa Rosa Computers, and decided to take a chance on them after purchasing a Groupon for them. Well, I cannot say enough good things about my experience here! I took my 7 year old Dell in for service since in was running really slooooooow...... I also wanted things updated, and an idea of how much life I had left in my computer. They did all that and more. Before doing any repairs, I got a call from an employee that day, outlining what was needed and the cost. They had my computer updated and ready to go by the next day. Most of all, they explained things to me in terms I could understand! Lastly, they gave me a recommendation for when I needed to get a new computer and can help me pick out what I need at that time. Overall, excellent service in every way. No surprises, no funny business! And the prices are comparable to the going rate for computer repairs - the $80/hour range (thus the 'pricey' rating - but all computer stuff is!). I am happy to say that months after the repairs and updates, my computer is working much better and is much faster as well. I will not hesitate to use them again in the future. read more
