I have been coming to this location for a while and tonight the service was great as always. My friend and I ordered the matcha ube swirl, as that is our favorite flavor. I love the ube ice cream for its signature vibrant purple color and the distinct ube taste that isn't too sweet. It has become one of my favorite ube desserts. But tonight, I looked at the matcha ube swirls ahead of us and noticed the ube ice cream color was different. It was significantly lighter like a pastel purple. When my friend and I tasted our ice cream, the "ube" flavor did not taste same. It was definitely taro. There is a clear difference to the taste. It was still good, but we were a bit disappointed and confused that this is clearly taro listed as ube. Is this a permanent change to the ube flavor or just a temporary thing? Or if this specifically for LB store vs nationwide change? We're just confused as all of Somi Somi's posts (except one March post) still shows the ube flavor as the iconic vibrant purple. The girl who helped me was friendly and the service was good although I will say it's disappointing you can't try any ice cream to sample. My dad never had Ube before and I wanted him to try a sample but we were denied. As far as the ice cream goes, I REALLY like that the ice cream here is not too sweet. Taiyaki's my guilty pleasure and this is the third SomiSomi location that I've visited to get my fix! I came for a late-night treat with my Mom who's never tried taiyaki before and now she's hooked! We opted for the two-piece taiyaki deal which has customizable fillings. My Mom chose Nutella as her filling and I chose the specialty flavor of the month, Mint Oreo! The taiyaki had chunks of crushed Oreo in it and had a great mint flavor. If you're a fan of mint and Oreos I recommend getting this flavor before it's gone! As an ube fan, I've ordered the ube ice cream several times from SomiSomi, but today, I was also in the mood for chocolate, so I couldn't resist ordering the ube and chocolate swirl ice cream for the first time. And let me tell you, it was pure bliss! The colors alone had me in awe! For the toppings, I went with rainbow sprinkles, biscoff crumble, fruity pebbles, and a macaron. It ended up being so pretty and colorful! Each bite was so delicious! I like how this location had lots of standing counters inside, so you can stand inside and eat your ice cream at the counters. When we went in the early evening, there was no line, so the service was super quick, and also very friendly! I love Somisomi!! It's such a cute idea combining soft serve with a waffle-like little fish, with Asian influences/flavors. The only thing that worries me is that it was 80° outside and only one young girl was serving us. She had no back up person- only her. We walked in around 3pm and then about 5+ people came in and it was only her!! When I'd forgotten to place another order she allowed me to get back in line to ring me up, and did my order quickly. Poor girl, ring people up, put on new gloves, keep an eye on the waffle fish so they don't burn, serve the soft serve and wait for their optional toppings. While I love the affordability and concept in contrast to places like Yogurltand or Coldstones, I understand how this places extra stress on the workers- it's VERY SIMILAR TO HOW WALMART KEEPS THEIR PRICES LOW. I ordered 1 nutella and 1 custard taiyaki on the self-kiosk and asked a worker after if they can separate my taiyaki into 2 separate boxes due to someone in my group having hazelnut allergies. When my number was called, I was confused that my order was in 1 box. I truly would not have bothered to write this review if the other worker was not so condescending when telling me how to differentiate the taiyaki based on the sticker as if it were common sense. I also saw the first worker tell the other one to separate them, and they still did not do that. I would also understand if they were in a rush but clearly the workers had enough time to stand around and chat with each other. The location is at a generally busy street, I happened to come at an off time so parking was a breeze. The store wasn't busy at all, if anything it was just us ordering. May not be the case on a Saturday night since it's right next to a popular ramen spot but with dedication, nothing is impossible! I came with my partner and my dog and sadly, not pets allowed inside :( Totally understandable tho, they probably don't wanna risk having pet fur/dander on their stuff. This place is a little gem in Bixby Knolls. The "Ah-Boong", a fish-shaped waffle cone makes it unique. My only issue is that they do not give samples. With such a limited flavor selection it doesn't make sense. I am not sure how I am supposed to imagine what milk, ube, matcha and black sesame taste like. Giving samples of uncommon flavors only makes sense otherwise it limits the experience of their customers. I hope someone will realize this soon and change this policy. read more

I usually like Somisomi. We have been to many different locations. Tonite, we stopped by the Bixby Knolls location. Its such bs that even if your group is in line waiting, u cant use the restroom. Ive been here before and that has never been the case. One chick said that I had to a paying customer. Then I pointed to my group that was waiting in line (3 others in the group). We were 3rd in line, but the workers were moving sllllllooooowly! The first worker went and got another worker and said that I had to pay, before using the restroom! I dont know why they were being so rude about the damn bathroom. It's so bizarre! This really irked me! As a loyal customer, it was really annoying!!! Do better, whoever the owner is!!! If you're in the mood for soft-serve ice cream, this is the place to go to. Their swirl flavors are rotating weekly but you can get ube, matcha, cookies and cream, chocolate, etc. If you get the upside-down ahboong, it's served in a cup with a fish-shaped waffle cone on top. Get yours with toppings and a filling of nutella or custard. They also serve taiyaki here. Parking is on the street. You can park on the main street or in the neighborhood a block away. Seating is outdoor or you can stand at the tables inside. The staff was nice. I would recommend this place to other people. read more

My 87 year old grandma was craving ice cream so my brother and I went here because it was close by. We brought her the custard filled fish bread thing and ube ice cream. When we got home, she only wanted "half" the ice cream... but we told her to eat from the cup and whatever she doesn't finish, we will save for later.
