Located in Shoreline Village near downtown Long Beach, the Funnel House is known for their freshly made funnel cakes, topped with a variety of dairy products, including decent ice cream. I was by myself, so decided to get a freshly made ice cream sandwich ("made with 2 cookies or a brownie or a cookie-brownie bar" for $9.25). The cashier/sandwich artist was so pleasant to talk to and gave a free sample, even on this busy, hot Sunday. I ended up getting a white chocolate macadamia for one side, and a peanut butter cookie on the other, with vanilla ice cream in the middle (wish they had had mint chocolate chip). It was good, but couldn't finish it since it would not survive the walk back. Next time, would get a darker chocolate based ice cream to go with the decent vanilla-flavored cookies. While I was eating the sandwich inside in the small eating area, noticed the next customers waiting for their funnel cake to be made. Thinking that would be a great choice, especially topped with the variety of ice cream flavors available. read more

Good vibes to all. It's not common to find funnel cakes; let alone a store that specializes in making them. It's such a brilliant idea to have funnel cakes (hot) and ice cream (cold) sold together. It fits all seasons and what's better is you can just order the two of them as a combo (Funnel Sundae)! Service is good with friendly staff. Not too terrible long wait, unless you come out on weekend busy time or special holidays. read more

Was craving some dessert so thought to stop here. I use to come here as a kid with my mom. So my experience is literally based on price and food quality. I don't think a cookie and a funnel cake is worth 25 dollars. Which I shared with a friend. The customer service was okay. It has a Long Beach staple feeling to it being that it's in downtown. But I think overall you could find better desserts places for a better price and quality but if you're feeling nostalgic getting a funnel cake for old time sakes go for it . read more

This is one of a few places where you can get a funnel cake in southern California. One at Knotts berry farm, Orange County fair and this place. This place is an assembly line! You can get a churro and funnel cakes with toppings! All is delicious. Workers are nice. Prices is a above average. But you get what you pay for. Treats are deliciously good. If you are craving a late night, sweet or pastry, I will most definitely say come and enjoy a funnel cake or Chiro here. Although they aren't open late, make sure that you validate your parking there because the pike will still charge you. also, sometimes you have to inform them to not fry your funnel cake too hard, but it is a nice size portion if you want to split with someone else. I can never make the decision of just only getting a funnel cake by itself plain or getting it with ice cream and fruit. But I have been enjoying this since a kid and this is one of my favorite late night, snack places to go and grab something. read more

Service is great, you have plenty of friendly teens, walking around, making the funnel cakes, filling the drinks. The ambience is real nice. You have a seating area right by the boardwalk and with shade. The cookies are really good! We tried the chocolate chip and seriously it's so fluffy and tastes homemade. Their toppings are excellent. Their jam is made in house. The only reason I gave four stars is because the funnel cake itself gets really chewy. The funnel cake and ice cream get 4 stars from me. The portion was big enough for 2 people to share. A bit overpriced, yes. There were a moderate amount of toppings and ice cream flavors to choose from...not that impressive. What was disappointing was that we came here over another spot because of the free churro with $15 purchase offer from Yelp. Even after I showed it to 2 employees, they refused to honor it, saying, "We don't really keep up with what's on Yelp." First of all...when did they start making cookies lighter than a cloud but sturdy enough to hold onto? We had chocolate chip cookies, M&M cookies and a churro 10/10 for everything. I was mad the next day that I don't live in Long Beach and that I didn't get two dozen. If you're down in Long Beach I highly suggest treating your tastebuds. They will thank you for it... They really hook it up here ! It's a fun treat to share and you can get your funnel cake loaded with ice cream and all of the toppings. I always come here with people to share with and we still do too much. We got our funnel cake with strawberry topping and ice cream. Delicious, but I always fail to simply get the cake itself which is my favorite part. Conviniently located in Shoreline Village, you can walk up and order and enjoy your dessert at one of the benches or tables nearby as they don't have seating inside. You can never go wrong with delicious funnel cakes! This place is open late and it's near the beach. The staff are friendly and they're always playing good music. There is minimal seating inside but a lot of tables outside. Funnel cakes are made to-order and they have a lot of different ice cream flavors to choose from. You do have to pay for parking but you can also try to find street parking and take a short stroll to the location. read more

I love this funnel cake spot. I found this spot a while ago and have frequented it every once in awhile. It's hard to find a good funnel cake and I crave it sometimes when there aren't any carnivals happening around me. It's a little expensive but the portions somewhat makeup for it, you can feed maybe 3-4 with it. The vibes with the employees were really good a while back, they were nice, attentive, and brought good energy but recently the service has been kind of lacking. They talk amongst themselves and don't acknowledge you when you ask for something they just do it, which I found a little odd. read more

Just when my party of 4 (plus 2 pups) couldn't have another bite after stuffing our faces from the Yardhouse nearby, we got enticed by the idea of having a funnel cake... topped with fruit... and whipped cream... and since they had horchata, I had to have that, too. There was no line, so I was served almost immediately. I was given a choice of 2 kinds off fruit for toppings (went for banana and strawberry) and was handed my goodies rather quickly. We all shared the plate, and we all enjoyed it. It was almost nostalgic - I haven't had a funnel cake in probably over a decade. Sure brought back a lot of memories! FOOD: 5. It tasted exactly as I last remembered having it from who knows where. SERVICE: 3. Not a lot of interaction, but they were pretty fast. VALUE: 3. Average at best. They greeted us as we arrived, checked on us when we got to the register and were quick with making the funnel cakes. Nice dessert for an evening at the beach! I spontaneously wanted to go to the beach and was craving something sweet. The funnel cakes smelled so delicious so we got a fundae. It came with your choice of ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream. I'm not usually a funnel cake person but it was a perfect dessert to satisfy my craving. My sweet tooth needs help after this spot! Wow, I've returned twice in two weeks to grab a funnel cake here at the Funnel House. You can find this spot at Shoreline Village, and you need to pay for parking here. They have various sweets and drinks like churros, ice cream sandwiches, cookies, slushies, and more! You can enjoy your sweets with their outside tables. Both times I went, I ordered the Funnel & Fruit ($12.75); you can get up to two fruit toppings, and whipped cream is an extra charge. The first time we went, the cake was crispy, but the second time, it was soggy, which I didn't like that much. My favorite fruits were the strawberry banana and apple cobbler. i am literally in love with the funnel cake here. my boyfriend and i visit very often when we want to take a stroll after getting dessert. it is a bit pricey but the portions are so big. the service there is hit or miss sometimes, most of the times they're very nice and attentive but there was once where my boyfriend notified them that they were out of spoons and they all looked at each other in silence and made no eye contact with my boyfriend. read more

Once again, I arrived early for this spur-of-the-moment local trip out to Shoreline Village, Long Beach, CA. I ordered a medium sized house coffee to go. Stumbled across this on the hunt for dessert. The line was super long but service was very fast. Food: ordered a funnel cake sundae topped with strawberries & strawberry cheesecake ice cream. This didn't look very pretty, but it was actually delicious. Between 3 people, we devoured it quickly. They were sold out of hot chocolate unfortunately. Service: very fast but not very engaging in the fast-pace. Ambiance: can't go wrong on the shoreline, this was a nice treat to enjoy at sunset with great views. We've been here a few times to eat their funnel cakes. This time around, we got a Sundae funnel cake with cherries on the side. The funnel cake was ginormous. The picture I took doesn't even begin to show you how massive this was. The cake was so delicious. It was both crunchy, fluffy, and so tasty. We also ordered their churro which was comparable to my favorite from Disneyland. Their churro is very dense and is actually quite heavy. We would definitely order the churro again. Service was friendly and quick despite being freshly made to order. There was ample seating available outside to enjoy the beautiful Southern California day. And all of the food is amazing. Seriously, truly legit! We buy bread from there each week. No more "big box store" bread you freeze. They make their bread fresh daily. They only use fresh, locally sourced ingredients with no preservatives. It's nice to look at an ingredient list and not see a paragraph for bread (and be able to pronounce all the names!). And their cupcakes and sweets. Yo, seriously so good. And the thing is, because of the ingredients they use, we don't feel heavy or overly wired after eating cake or cupcakes from them. From other places you can tell they use preservatives, refined sugars, processed ingredients. But with Nonna, you can just taste the difference. We even had them make our special cake for our wedding! We recently tried their dinner (twice!) and it exceeded expectations. Now, mind you, all of their food has always been good but our experience was amazing. Their prix fixe menu was well put together, wine pairings on point, dessert was also delicious. Our favorite was the tiramisu! Also loved the spaghattini and casarecce pastas, and entrecôte di manzo, but everything was great. Their brunch is also great, you really can't go wrong on the menu. And I think we've gone through almost all of it! Finally, (if you've stayed with me this long!) the absolute best thing about Nonna for us is the TEAM. Hands down no question. We came around noon on Saturday, and thankfully despite their busy brunch rush we were seated immediately. Even though all of their seating is outdoors, tables are shaded by overhanging canopy and just added to the cute southern Italian bistro vibes of the place. The menu had a solid selection of both brunch and lunch items - I loved the Burrata di Campagna, which was flavorful with just the right amount of tart from the heirloom tomatoes. For my main meal I had to go with the Casarecce - one of their pastas that's made fresh in house daily. The braided pasta was wonderfully textured and soaked up all the pesto sauce without being overly oily, a perfect meal for a hot summer day. We finished our meal with a Nutella Croissant, from their artisan bakery that also makes their bread fresh every day. Perhaps I am a little biased, but the laminated dough was perfectly light and flaky, encasing a very generous filling of hazelnut chocolate cream. Our check at the end of the meal even came with a custom drawn postcard by one of the Nonna Mercato service staff - another present to add on to what was already a gift of a meal!

Everything feels clean, classy and thoughtfully put together. When you first arrive, seeing the line out the door can be a little intimidating. Usually at places like this, I feel like I have to fight for my life to find a table, but thankfully that wasn't the case here. The staff was very kind and asks how many are in your party and helps you get a table, which made everything much less stressful. They also give you menus while you wait so you can decide what you want ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30am and our wait was about 30 minutes so by the time we were able to order at 11am, the lunch menu was also available. I ordered the tater tots, Cinnagave Shaken Espresso, Dutch Baby Pancake and country sourdough toast with jam. With tax and tip, my total came out to around $40. It's definitely pricier than what I normally pay for breakfast. Most entrées range from $17-$34 and coffees are around $5-$10, so you can easily spend $30+ for one person. In these hard times, that's not exactly ideal for me. I also wanted to try a pastry to get the full experience, but when I found out the small blackberry danish was $7, I decided to pass. I just couldn't justify getting that close to $50 for breakfast for one person. Now for the food! The country sourdough toast with jam was actually my favorite item. The homemade sourdough was incredible and honestly deserves its roses. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it was so well done and easily the standout for me. Visually, the Dutch Baby Pancake was beautiful and definitely impressive when it came out. I've always wanted to try one, so I was excited! I will say, I've read everywhere that Dutch babies are supposed to have more of a custardy center and even the photos I've seen look that way. Mine didn't really have that texture at all and tasted more like a crepe. Maybe it was a little overcooked? It wasn't bad, just not quite what I expected. Still delicious! Unfortunately, the tater tots were the biggest disappointment. They weren't crispy, didn't taste seasoned and sort of fell apart until they became one big potato mess. My cousins and I ended up not finishing them. One of my cousins ordered the summer peach and corn salad, which she liked! Just a heads-up that it's only available after 11 a.m. My other cousin got the skillet, she mentioned feeling a little disappointed since it tasted a little dry and didn't finish her plate. However they both ordered the Curious George drink and LOVED it! The Cinnagave Shaken Espresso was also fantastic. Coffee is definitely something they do very well here and I can see myself getting again. Overall, the aesthetics are adorable and I could see this being a great date spot. The coffee was fantastic, the sourdough was amazing, but the rest of the food was just okay for us. That was a little disappointing because everything sounds SO good on paper. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The prices are probably the biggest thing holding me back from coming back regularly. Spending $30-$40+ per person for breakfast isn't really in my budget right now, but if this is within your price range, you may have a completely different experience. When I review a place, I try to take the overall experience, personal taste and effort into account. For now, I'm leaving Zuzu's Petals at 4 stars because the effort is definitely there, and what isn't my cup of tea may be someone else's liquid gold.
