I always hear people talking about this place and I know a lot of restaurants that use their ice cream, yet, I have never been to their actual store. Not only am I a fan, but my dog is too. When I came in I was immediately greeted by - Lelan and Alec. They knew it was our first time so they gave us some time to think about what we wanted and they did not rush us and they were not super annoyed that it took us a few minutes They were really friendly and helpful. Asked if we wanted to sample any of the flavors and etc. they don't have a HUGE variety, but they have the standard flavors and my favorite, birthday cake (which looks amazing. It's so colorful) You can tell they use good quality ingredients We ended up getting a scoop of Vietnamese coffee And a birthday cake scoop and made it into a sundae They have merch (clothes, but also they have the cutest pins and keychains) They have a private parking lot They have ice cream cakes They have ice cream bars Now, for my dogs favorite part. My pup only has a few teeth left and she's gotten stubborn when it comes to drinking water. So I'm always looking for treats she can have. I've walked by this popular ice cream shop many times but never gone in. So when I was craving ice cream on a hot day this week I decided to finally give it a try. They seem to have about 15 unique ice cream flavors at a time and are happy to let you try them before making a decision. On my visit they had three (!!) types of brownie ice cream. After trying all three I decided on the ube brownie batter ice cream. The ube was a nice complement to the chocolate richness of the brownie. Since it was my first visit, the person helping me suggested the milky bun, which turned out to be an ice cream sandwhich inside of a warm glazed donut. Ordering the milky bun was where I went wrong. The great thing about ice cream sandwiches is that they turn ice cream into an easy-to-hold treat with a cookie outside that complements the ice cream without over-powering it, similar to a cone. This sandwhich was (a) impossible to pick up and eat like a sandwhich, (b) way too sweet: it overpowered the flavor of the ice cream, and (c) poorly proportioned: there was far too much "milky bun" and not nearly enough ice cream. I ended up using a spoon to eat the ice cream out from inside the bun on its own, but it was less ice cream than you'd get in a normal 1 scoop cone or cup. I do want to give them another try, I'll just steer clear of the milky bun and recommend you do the same! read more

This ice cream joint is quite nostalgic to me as I used to stop by constantly in high school when their infamous 'Milky Bun' was trending in the foodie community. Their Milky Bun is ultimately a donut sandwich with a scoop of your choice of ice cream flavor in the middle. My go-to is the Milky Bun with their 'Cookie Monster' ice cream. Cookie Monster is cookies and cream with some sort of colored dye, I'm assuming. I love how they have a great and unique selection of flavors to choose from. My mom doesn't really enjoy sweets but she loved her waffle cone she had the other day. For an ice cream shop this is a pretty cool spot to treat your sweet tooth. Afters is a fantastic ice cream shop tucked in the bixby village plaza on bellflower and PCH. We found this shop on a late night craving. This is the only local shop that closes at 12am on weekends! The chocolate chip cookie is great as always and the cookie butter with cap'n crunch is incredible. I love Afters! The service is always fast and super friendly. It is open nice and late for that late night sweet tooth fix or date night, and the flavors are always unique and interesting. I got the ube brownie ice cream in a milky bun, which is basically a glazed donut cut in half like a sandwich. The ice cream had a great ube flavor and had little pieces of fudge brownie in it. And the price was reasonable. The only thing I would change next time is to skip on the milky bun and go for the cup. The milky bun is warm so it makes your ice cream melt twice as fast (and holding it with a warm human hand doesn't help), so you end up wolfing it down faster than you may have wanted to.
