Ivan is a Rockstar! It was a warm and humid Sunday in the shop. The line was out the door and he was by himself. He remained calm and methodical. The soft serve is creamy, dense, and yummy. To be honest, my husband wasn't sold on the ube/chocolate swirl, but I loved my ube soft serve. It was his fault he picked that combo, he wanted chocolate and changed his mind at the last minute. Despite the warm day, my soft serve did not melt into a puddle of goo before I could eat it. Due to staffing, the wait was long in a humid crowded room, but how could you be too annoyed because Ivan was holding down the fort with grace. If he could keep his cool making Taiyaki, pulling soft serve, taking orders on repeat by himself, we could at least not add another circle of h3ll to his shift. So the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the powers that be should have scheduled help and if someone called out, they should have come in themselves to help out. read more

Cool spot with non-dairy soft serve! There are several flavors and combinations available. I tried the ahboong with Ube and Sesame swirl with a custard filling. I added fruity pebbles on top as well and it was really yummy! I was excited to try as I'd seen other taiyaki spots floating around and was curious about this place. The size of the desert is pretty good and def satisfied my sweet tooth. This place was pretty popular on a Sunday evening and there was a little bit of a wait, which I was surprised about. I love somi somi, but the somi somi at this location could be better if Anamaria (employee) isn't rude to her customers. She gives a lot of attitude and yells when customers can't hear her. She's speaks very clearly when she raises her voice but not when she greets and helps a customer out. I was excited about the toppings and I asked for cookies, fruity pebbles, graham crackers, and coconut flakes. Our creations looked very pretty but I was more concerned about how they tasted. The milk tea overpowered the cookies and cream but the consistency of the soft serve was good. The soft serve was quite high in the cup putting the taiyaki on top of it made it too heavy. Unfortunately it fell off as I walked down the street. My sister let me try hers though and it was pretty good. For $6.95, I thought the portions were plentiful, making it a really good deal. We usually opt to share the Upside Down Ah-boong, which is a custard-filled taiyaki (fish-shaped waffle cone) on top of your Korean-style soft serve of choice. It's never too sweet (true Asians know this is a compliment). But the taiyaki can be a hit or miss - some days it has nice mochi-like chewy texture with a bit of crunch, and other days it's hard and brittle. There's always a flavor of the month along with the other set flavors. I was so excited to have this open in Long Beach only to be quite disappointed that milk tea isn't one of the set flavors, unlike the Somisomi spot in West L.A. Each month, I always poke my head in to see if milk tea is finally a monthly flavor. Somisomi, if you're reading this, PLEASEEE add milk tea to your set menu in Long Beach! If you do, I promise to come at least once a week. Service is usually friendly enough, but I think it kind of sucks that you can't get samples like any other standard ice cream/soft serve shop.
