Absolutely let down by this location. My family and I love Something Different in Portales and Clovis, so we decided to visit the one in Lubbock having nothing but high expectations. We ordered online and went to pick it up through the drive thru. It was $20.10. Waited in line for 45 minutes for TWO SALADS. We went inside to figure out why it was taking an unnecessary amount of time for our meals. They apologized and "gave us our money back" on a gift card. It's been a couple weeks since this incident so we went for dinner at the portales location and attempted to use the gift card they gave us. THERE WAS ONLY FIVE DOLLARS ON IT. Very very disappointed and will not visit again or recommend to anyone. If you really want Something Different Grill, drive to a different location!!! read more

The name says it all. The menu reads as if the owners couldn't decide what kind of food they wanted to sell. Definitely appealing to many different tastes. I've yet to find a restaurant that has such a diversified menu able to be successful at executing each menu item any better than what exists in those restaurants that focus on individual food genres. If you're looking for a nice lunch I highly recommend Something Different Grill. The service was friendly and fast plus the prices were pretty cheap! We had the chicken club wrap with fries, a kids spaghetti and an order of fried Zucchini. The fried zucchini with jalapeño ranch was probably my favorite thing that we had! Atmosphere: rustic interior. Bright with lots of natural lighting. Great seating space and comfy chairs! Service: super quick and friendly. They're kinda like whataburger where they come to your table to drop off the food and ask if you need refills or anything else. Food/drinks: I got the strawberry field chicken salad and peach tea. Bf got beef and shrimp teriyaki bowl. My strawberry salad was soooo good. Loved how fresh the greens and strawberries were. The dressing (raspberry vinaigrette) was a bit too sweet and thick, so I used 1/4 that was given. The chicken was surprisingly not dry and unflavored! It was actually very soft and moist with a good amount given. The peach tea was sooooooooooo sweet omg. Couldn't even drink half of it :( and it barely tastes like peach. Just super sweet tea. Bf teriyaki bowl was a lot yummier than expected. Only downfall is that it's literally 80% rice lol the bowl looks small, but it's quite deep. That being said, the carrots, broccoli, beef, and shrimp is laid on top with the rest being all rice. Too.. much.. rice.. All in all, great experience. Will be back! read more

Ordered takeout, wings and fried pickles. 13.00 plus tip 16.00 and some change. Got my order and it was very light but didn't think anything of it. Got home my 7.00 wings were 6 and SMALL!! Pickles were so fried they were like air and no flavor what so ever! My large coconut tea I ordered when I got there was almost 4.00, it's brewed tea with a few squirts of coconut. Which is fine but not for 4.00 so 20.00 bucks down the drain!!! I could have got Wing stop for that much. Will never go back read more

We are at the new location on Quaker in SW Lubbock. Clean space and friendly attentive staff. I ordered the zucchini chips and the chicken Szechuan bowl. It is a huge portion and delicious! Maybe it was a bad Friday night . I ordered the hot chicken wings, and fried pickles. The hot chicken wings were just fried wings, they forgot to add hot sauce. My fried pickles were halved cooked and oily. My wife had a baked potato and it was cold on top, the fried zucchini was just oily and limp. I found this restaurant on Yelp while visiting Lubbock. It had good reviews but after eating here I'm wondering if those are all family and employees providing good reviews? We arrived on a Saturday night and there was only 1 customer in the place. We should have taken that as a sign and left. But we had just traveled 6 hours, were hungry and didn't want to find another place. It's really a fast food place which we didn't realize. My 17 year old son who was hungry and can eat ordered the fried fish and shrimp combo. It was frozen food they nuked. It was terrible - he ate less than half of it. I ordered the Cobb Salad. It looked nothing like the photo posted. Lettuce was old with brown spots. Very little chicken, bacon and cheese. The best I can say is it was edible. Paid $28 for the 2 of us. A friend and I had the chicken teriyaki bowl special for lunch Monday, for $4. The store was very clean, the service attentive and fast. The bowls were good sized portions, with fresh chopped broccoli, cabbage, carrots, and tender meaty chunks of white meat chicken over a bed of rice. It was delicious, and a good bargain at only $4. Really bad experience. I had food delivered and got the Cobb salad, zucchini chips, and sweet potato fries. The only thing that was edible was the sweet potato fries, and there were only a handful of them in the box. The salad had soggy lettuce and basically no other toppings-unlike the other pictures you see. The zucchini chips were burnt to a crisp. I literally just threw it all in the trash. I've been to this location 3 times and the one in Clovis twice. Just like the name says it's something different. They have a little bit of everything and it's good. The baked potatoes, salads, and burgers are all tasty. The pasta isn't the best but it's not awful, besides if you want Italian there's other options around town. I haven't found many places with this much selection and this tasty. The owners and family, small kids included, put in work here and other locations. The service is friendly and may not be the fastest yet, but they continue to improve. If you find yourself hungry and near one I suggest stopping by. Also be aware the portions are large, the potatoes can easily feed two people. read more

First of all I never leave reviews but after this experience I signed up just so I could leave one here. I've been here 3 times now. After my first 2 visits I would have told you they had great burgers. Today my husband wanted a burger but I didnt. I thought hey they have other things on the menu so why not. Terrible choice. They no longer serve burgers. The pasta we got was horrible. Smells rotten and taste about that way as well. The bread is soggy and inedible. Honestly it's worse than the WalMart frozen garlic bread. Came here today for lunch. It was busy. You can tell the owner is helping the staff get off the ground and they were working hard today. It took a few minutes for us to be greeted, but our orders were taken and our questions about the food were answered as thoroughly as possible (staff had some questions, but they are still learning so this is understandable - Rome wasn't built in a day). The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant has unique lighting and chairs for comfort. We were asked no less than 3 times if we needed refills or anything else. I ordered the Szechuan Bowl and my coworker ordered the catfish platter. The catfish was good. My bowl was good too. It is steamed (not sauteed), so you should know that going into it. I also ordered egg rolls and they were great. I would suggest allowing single egg roll purchase as an option, especially with the bowls since 3 is too many for one person and egg rolls compliment teriyaki/szechuan/thai bowls so well. This really is a place where you could go each day of the week and order "something different." We will be back! read more

Really friendly place with good seating and a lot of good options. I had the teriyaki chicken and beef with brown rice. Came with lots of meat and rice. Next time I might ask for extra veggies. The sauce was light but they give you extra so you can add if you need to. Others in my group had the Cobb salad and the chicken fried steak potato (lots of gravy). I like this place very much. My partner and I can never agree on what food to eat, so we end up going here maybe twice a month. I love to get the teriyaki bowl and he gets the burger. I honestly don't ever review places BUT this grill was great. It really is "something different," and a nice change from the usual fast food places. What really did it for me was the staff, though. We ate inside and they were very friendly, very attentive, and gave extra sauces and refills without us having to ask. I proudly ate at Something Different on 50th Street in Lubbock from the time it first opened until my move back to Amarillo, Nov. 1, 2018 - I enjoyed an almost full Restaurant, chatty and friendly staff and EXCELLENT food - across the menu. I returned on the evening of Wednesday, the 11th of December, 2019, hoping to treat my Grandson. One, (seemed unhappy) customer, three staff (also seemed unhappy), was shocked that they had removed all of the best tasting hamburgers within a 3 mile radius. The restaurant was very clean. I got the club salad and it was fresh and the chicken wasn't dried out. Ordered a side of the alvocado ranch and thought it was a little pricy for a side but when i got it i realized they use a lot of Alvarado so it was worth it!
