This place is super cute. The prices aren't bad either. Know those places that charge $10 for a martini & you get this teenie glass with barely any booze? Soma is not that place. The martini glasses are large, full & overflowing. Try the white peach martini, it's yuuuuuuum! The decor is nice. Dark, but not gloomy with the perfect amount of mood lighting. It's a great place for after work drinks and catching up with a friend. I only tried apps, but the menu has a variety of choices. I recommend that arancini. So good! The only down side was young townie traffic by the end of the night. The type that just reached drinking age & you might find it hard to fight the urge to punch them in the throat. By that point, you're already having such a good time it might not phase you. read more

The food here is often very good, and sometimes it is great. Their french fries are delicious. They serve a great burger. In the past, there was a salad with duck confit that was fantastic. Their pizzas are always tasty. The soups can be divine. My major challenge with this restaurant is the service. It doesn't match the quality of the food on offer, or the prices. I've eaten here between a dozen and 20 times since roughly 2008 with the most recent being in 2017. With consistent, excellent service, this place could be a fine dining destination. I've had meals that good here! My husband always asks if I want to eat at Soma because he likes their menu and can get what he wants. (He's a picky eater.) Instead, I'm always nudging him to try somewhere new, because I don't like paying for what regularly (not always!) ends up being a mediocre experience at the table. We've booked a larger table (6-8 people) for a special occasion meal... and been graced with an amateur waiter who either can't handle the job or doesn't care. In a jovial group, we could easily have ordered several more rounds of drinks, or multiple bottles of wine... if only the server bothered to check in! It's a shame when you're in the mood for a celebration, but the service leaves you vaguely dissatisfied. We had a regular place in this price range near our old home. Since moving to Beverly, no similar establishment has revealed itself to us. Soma is so, so close, however... I just can't forgive inattentive service at even mid-range prices. Worst ever was one evening when I came in to dine alone. I don't actually mind that experience, though I know many do. The hostess seated me--in an almost EMPTY restaurant--directly adjacent to a pair of women who'd already had quite a bit to drink (or just terrible manners.) These two women clearly thought it was just awful that I was seated so close to them, and proceeded to whisper rude things ABOUT ME to each other until they left. That was near the end of my entree since a solo diner tends to finish a meal more quickly than a pair of souses polishes off a round of drinks. It was the worst restaurant meal of my life, and I would have asked my server to move me... except that she reappeared too rarely during my time being roasted by these harridans for me to make a discreet comment. Come to Soma for the food. It will probably taste very good. If you walk in expecting disappointing service, you won't be disappointed. You may even be pleasantly surprised! I hope you luck out with one of the more skilled servers. read more

We went here last night for a special date night and it was perfect. Started with some cocktails...... pom martini for me, ginger mojito for the man. Tasty, delicious and a good size. Carmelized pear salad came split for an app. It was sooooo good. Warm almost brown sugary tasting pear. I got the roasted veggie pasta and the man got the mission fig special pizza for meals...... crazy good. The only slight miss was the creme brulee dessert that was a wee bit burnt on top. Timing was perfect for all the courses and the server was spot on. Dark, romantic environment that was packed but the noise level near got to high. Highly recommend.... This is hidden gem in the Beverly area. Great atmosphere for drinks after work or for a good meal. This Greek owned Mediterranean restaurant is how a restaurant should be. Good food and professional staff. I have been here for lunch and dinner. They have a good selection of beers too. I recommend the grilled salmon for lunch. The pizzas here are awesome also. When you are done with your meal you just know you have eaten a good meal made with fresh ingredients. read more

I made a reservation on a Saturday evening and was promptly seated. No one came. No wait staff, no water, no bread. Others are being seated and being served. Nothing. We get up and tell the host. He says someone will be over. Nothing. Finally, a woman comes over and just says hi and gives us water. No apology. No mention that we've been there over 15 minutes. And she is the one who was walking around us and cleaning the tables around us. The food was just ok. I got a quesadilla and it was ok. My friend got a burger and she said it was good. I'm not rushing back. But I'm not opposed to trying it again either. read more

I'm new to the area and still don't know all that the North Shore has to offer, so I am not experienced enough to declare anything the best but I don't see how the Rhode Island Style Calamari and humus could get any better. I will be back to order another one of the fancy/expensive cocktails and eat more bread and humus. The drinks are amazing. Spicy cucumber cocktail was phenomenal. I also tried their specialty drink of the day the 'fig newton' it was super decadent and amazing. They have a great selection of beers on tap including a double chocolate stout which was delightful. The food was amazing. Fantastic pizzas and salads. We had the Greek pizza, it was delicious, we also split a salad and they even split it onto separate plates for us (how fancy!) Service was great. Prices are reasonable. read more

The drinks are amazing, up to the standards of any fancy bar down in Boston. The food is a bit hit or miss, I feel. Although I haven't given the menu a fair shake entirely. I had a bad experience with a squid dish once. The pizza is another highlight. The crust is thick which is usually not my style but the dough is pastry-like. I've been twice now while visiting a friend. They have such fun cocktails and the buffalo chicken pizza is so good! This past time I had a sandwich which was really delicious and the portions are pretty big. The service was definitely lacking this past time and the waitress was not very welcoming but she got her job done and we got our food and drinks in a timely manner so all was good. read more

I've been to Soma several times and always love the food & drinks! Last night we met some of our friends for dinner/drinks. We had to sit a the bar for a few minutes to wait for the rest of our party to join us, while we were waiting, Suzanne was our bartender, she was not only pleasant and attentive she makes a mean Margarita! One of the best on the NS without all that sour mix that tastes like chemicals. It was tart & smooth! Yeah to Suzanne!!! BTW, Christalle (sp?) was our server and she was a doll too! My wife and I stopped in last night for a quick dinner. Highly recommend this restaurant. With our drink order came some bread accompanied by a very creamy, garlic hummus...just delicious. We had salads....beet salad and caesar, both good size, fresh and tasty. For entrees, my wife had the mushroom burger, cooked medium, with a boatload of tasty fries and I had a special, blackened trout with mashed potatoes and spinach. Nice and spicy. Excellent portions, too. Topped off night with expresso...which seems to be hard to find in last few places I've eaten at. Service very efficient, but just a little friendliness would make outstanding. Nice alternative rock tracks playing at low level in background. Dim lighting give SOMA a nice vibe. I love Soma. They have a great variety of food and amazing drinks-- my favorite being the Sailor's Mojito. The pizza is some of the best in Beverly. Plus they bring you hummus and bread when you're seated, yum! The one thing I think Soma could change is how dark it looks from the outside. A lot of people I know have told me they haven't gone there because it looks either really upscale or uninviting from the outside. Inside though, it's a nice space with a great mix of people and a really lively bar. read more

So so good! Love that they serve bread with hummus instead of butter- & the hummus is soooo delish! Pizzas are great and espresso martinis are some of the best I've had. Actually all the martinis I've tried are pretty good! Only reason to not give 5 stars is the service has been slow every time we've gone. My family enjoyed a yummy lunch. They started us off with hummus and bread. We ordered tuna tartar for an appetizer. Very fresh. Great presentation. I love Soma! I usually come here every now and again with my sister since it is one of her favorite places. We'll grab a seat at the bar after the dinner rush to grab a few drinks and an appetizer before we start on our night out. The strawberry basil martini is delicious, my go to drink here. I also loooove the fried calamari. The service is okay, not overly friendly, but not rude either. Just seems like they want to get our order, deliver the drinks, and be off. (A smile goes a long way people). This also could be because we come in a little later and maybe they are burnt out by then..who knows? Otherwise I absolutely adore it here. First time at Soma, and I thought it was quite good. The food preparation was perfect, my wife ordered the steak and it was cooked as requested, something that happens less often than you think. I ordered a pasta dish with shrimp; it had 10 pieces of shrimp in it, which was fantastic and better than other places. The pasta was excellent, good texture and flavor. The atmosphere was a relaxed local restaurant where food quality is higher than the norm. There is so much for me to go back and try; if you haven't already, give the place a whirl and see what you think. read more

I have come to Soma multiple times and each time keeps getting worse. 3 weeks ago I made reservations with friends and they sat us right away, great. Our waitress was so slow that we were at the restaurant for 4 hours. She continuously did not come over to our table, I had to track her down for the check, boxes ect. My friends and I would have gotten another drink but she never asked. This last time, a week ago, we again made a reservation at 530 and they sat up right away. Waiter was a little better this time but still never checked in to see if we needed anything and again had to ask for the check. At 7:10 we were rudely interrupted by one of the hostess' informing us that they had another reservation after us and we needed to finish up. Excuse me!? I've never had this happen before. We were waiting for the waiter to take our card to pay. We told her that and she looked down at the card and walked away not taking the card to swipe! We had been there less than 2 hours and we're getting rushed out the door. Highly disappointed as were my friends who were from out of town. Not a good look. read more

This place was terrible. It was a Thursday night around 6pm and we had to wait 45 mins to get a table, even though there were obvious open tables when we arrived. I understand people have reservations, but there was a two top in the corner that was open before we put our name down and wasn't filled until my girlfriend and I were leaving after our meal...Anyways. I ordered a steak panini and it was cold, the girlfriend got the grilled pork chop which was extremely over cooked (difficult to cut, burnt/charred taste). The server kept forgetting things. 2 of our 3 chairs were not level so I kept wobbling. The manager was nice enough to comp us the food because we couldn't even eat it, and we gladly paid for our drinks (which were good). Will NEVER go back. read more

My wife and I went to Soma for the first time the other night. The reviews are pretty good and the menu looked solid so we were looking forward to a nice dinner. We arrived around 6:30 so it was pretty packed but we managed to get a table. After sitting at the table for about 10 minutes we were about to order our drinks when the manager approached us and asked us to get up from the table. Apparently the manager or host made a mistake when seating us and now this was our problem. Apparently this table we had been seated at was reserved for another party and the party had arrived and they could only sit at this one very special table. The four other empty tables in the restaurant were not up to the standards of this very important party and therefore we had to collect our things, get up and go wait by the bar for the next available to table to open up. But there are four empty tables you ask? Oh no those tables aren't for sitting. They will just sit empty for the remainder of the evening. So here we are waiting in the crowded bar area for a table to open up. We end up waiting about 10 minutes and then we have to settle for a very cramped very inconvenient high top table. We ended up eating and the food was fine but at that point everyone was a bit peeved at the service and had a hard time enjoying our meal. Honestly, I have never seen anything like this happen before. Soma needs to understand the difference between a "me problem" and a "you problem" because clearly in this instance, they had created a "you problem" and I don't need to be inconvenienced by your mistake. read more

Had tickets to the Cabot and wanted to grab dinner and drinks before the show. Should've made a reservation, but were there early enough to have the choice of a high top table for two or seats at the bar. We picked the bar. Immediately welcomed by bar staff who kept up the great service throughout our visit. Not pushy but friendly and ready with recommendations, such as asking if we wanted our beef salad app served on two plates. Food was excellent - tasty, good-sized portions, and reasonable prices. Drink menu was like the food - tasty and good-sized for decent prices. Soma is definitely on the list as a "must go back to"! read more

Have been living in Beverly the past 3 months and heard countless times that this place was off the charts on food. My aunt and I got a large pepperoni, mushroom and onion pizza to go, the dough was hard as a rock, way too crunchy, i could use it as a hammer to bang in nails. Probably the best restaurant in Beverly, and certainly deserves the 5 star rating. The whole staff there was great from host, and waiters. I ordered some wine and probably had the largest glass poured in my life....so nice to see, since the last few places I have been to, gave me a shot glass full, or a splash. The menu is great, and my appetizers were phenomenal (Tuna Tartar) and my steak dish was one of the best I've had out in ages, better than any of the supposed "Steak Houses" in the area. Dark. Can hardly read the menus without using your flashlight on your phone. Server very inattentive. She had friends at another table and spent most of the night talking with them or in the back room. Bread with hummus to start very good, had seafood pasta which was only warm and didn't have much fish or shrimp, but had lots of mussels in the shell. Usually this place is spot on. Today, not so much. Came in early for a late lunch early dinner, waited 15 min for someone to acknowledge us and seat us. It was not busy. Waited another 20 min or so for someone to come to the table. When she finally arrived it was are you all set to order. Thankfully we were. Ordered the spicy BBQ BURGER medium and shrimp pasta. The dishes came out pretty quickly. Shrimp pasta was good Burger was grossly over cooked. Ordered a second drink, it never came. Told them to forget the second drink, and suddenly it shows up at the end of the meal. At least they took it off the bill. At one point our waitress left the building and no one ever came to check on us. Had to wait 20 min after the meal to get the check and this is after my wife complained to the "manager". He did nothing. We used to be regulars. We will not be back and neither will any of our friends. read more

Why anyone would go here unless you were 19 years of age and being able to drink is beyond me (yes, it seems that they serve underage people and it's very evident). My wife and I went for dinner and the food along with the service was just disgraceful. On top of that some drunk fool spilt a drink on my wife. Chicken was not fully cooked, and the wine had a vinegar taste to it. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
