What a wonderful way to celebrate a night. It's Halloween today. The crowds in Salem are vast and overwhelming. We got off the Main Strip on Essex street and ventured out here in SOMA. It had a gothic, darker mood and my wife and I love it. The pizza we tried, the one with broccolini and shrimp was very tasty. Almost too much for us to finish. The vibe, the music, and our waitress Jenae was stellar. Just a super nice experience. Come here for a date night or low key gathering or celebration for sure. My girlfriend and I were looking for a nice spot to go on a Friday night and decided to try Soma. The place was pretty packed, but I called ahead and they were able to save a table for us, which we really appreciated. It's in a great location in downtown Beverly with a large parking lot behind it, so parking was easy. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to expectations. We ordered two appetizers: the calamari and the mushroom arancini. The calamari was the strangest version I've ever had, mixed with jalapeños, arugula, tomatoes, and marinara sauce placed underneath. The combination didn't really work, and I wasn't a fan of the sauce being on the bottom instead of on the side.The arancini was better, but still odd. It was served over some kind of Alfredo sauce, which again felt unnecessary. It seems like this place really likes putting sauce on the bottom of dishes, and it didn't enhance the food. The real highlight of the night was the drinks. We both ordered espresso martinis, and they were honestly the best espresso martinis I've ever had. There were several other cocktails that looked great as well, so we'll definitely be back to try more drinks. Overall, the food was underwhelming and didn't meet my expectations. I wouldn't come back for the food, as their takes on classic dishes just didn't work for me. last night we went here to get a pizza, it was good. waitress, on the other hand was ok until we ordered. when she realized we were only getting a $20 item to split, her demeanor changed. She became scarce and didn't check on us. When we wanted a box to go, she had to be flagged down, it took over 20 min and she just put it on the edge of the table and walked off. i've revisited soma a couple times recently as i haven't been in years. soma has a comfortable ambiance with a dark lit interior for a casual lunch or dinner. shauna provided great service during a late lunch, and phil was very hospitable and helpful during dinner. first, they don't automatically provide bread, you have to ask for it, and you should! the bread is homemade & super fresh, and they have delicious hummus with it! for lunch, i couldn't decide, and shauna advised that the chicken panini is one of their best sellers. while it is good, i couldn't help but feel like the chicken is prepackaged? when i stopped in for dinner, i ordered a chicken pesto pizza, and again, i felt like the chicken is not made to order. it was decent, but i felt it could use some more seasonings or toppings as it only comes with pesto, roasted red peppers and chicken (topped with arugula). their tequila cranberry cosmo is delicious! bread & hummus 10/10 chicken panini 6.2/10 chicken pesto pizza 6.8/10 tequila cranberry cosmo 9/10 overall i liked their panini & pizza, however i wish the chicken tasted more freshly grilled. i did enjoy the meals more than i did years ago, they have great cocktails, and shauna & phil were great. ambiance: 3.7/5 food: 3.2/5 drinks: 4.5/5 service: 4.5/5 soma: 3.9/5 read more

The food is awesome! Had the 12oz prime rib which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Came on a bed of roasted halved baby potatoes that was in a tomato mushroom wine reduction sauce. Unfortunately, in my haste I forgot to take a pic. The service was spot on. The tables are a little closer than I like but I understand as we arrived early and before too long the place was completely filled to capacity. Came here for a girl's night with my bestie and we had a grand ole time. Our server was a little spacey, but meant well. The spot is cute but I think they overcrowd the seating a tad. I understand wanting to be able to fit as many as possible, but don't love when it comes at the expense of feeling cramped. Okay, the food! Spot on. The standout for us was the "chicken under a brick" - not only is it unique but also divine and quite filling. The food and service at last night's dinner was very good as has typically been my experience at Soma. The one thing that had the potential to completely spoil the experience was the choice and volume of music! Harsh heavy metal Rock music was blaring upon our arrival at 6:30. Had a great Friday night dinner with an old high school friend and our spouses. The place was crowded and lively with friendly service. Good pour on the wines by the glass and tasty bread and hummus. 3 of us had the swordfish with risotto and it was juicy and delicious. Never felt rushed and were able to have great conversation. Hubs and I had a date night to see a show at the Cabot Theater just down the street, so we made reservations for dinner here at Soma. We arrived and were seated promptly on time in a cozy booth next to the windows so we could people-watch too :) (of note, it is quite dark in there!) Our server, Liz, was a well-trained server who knew the importance of prompt, efficient service on a show night! She started us off with complimentary bread and housemade hummus, and O M G. This was the smoothest, creamiest hummus I have EVER tasted! It was seasoned to perfection; after a couple of bites, I thought it might need a bit more salt or lemon but then changed my mind. Even when the bread was gone, I scooped and scraped the last bits with the cute mini spoon they provided! Whew, all that for something complimentary! It gave me great hopes for the rest of the meal! Drinks: hubs had a beer, and I started with the cucumber Cosmo, nice twist but too sweet; I switched to dirty martinis, and those were bangin'! Dinner: we opted to share two small pizzas, thinking they were like personal pan-sized- HA, we would have been okay ordering one! We chose the mushroom and sausage and then the garlic shrimp. Both came out timely and hot! The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the lovely essence of garlic with the fondita cheese was divine. The broccolini was a huge hit as well, tender but still had some bite to it. Some roasted garlic on top would have put this pizza in the top 1 or 2 pizzas I have ever had! The pizza crust was chewy, crusty, and not limp at all! The mushroom pizza was okay in my book; the mushrooms tasted off to me, but to be honest, it is a hit or miss with me and mushrooms! Hubs enjoyed it very much. There might have been a little too much sauce, and the wilted spinach on top was not needed, but it added a nice presentation. Soma has been a consistently reliable and wonderful mainstay for diners in Beverly MA. On January 16, we decided to see if the rave reviews I have written in the past are being sustained. Verdict: still amazing food served cordially by an amazing wait staff, including our server, Matthew C. Soma gives diners time to enjoy the meal at a leisurely pace, and the wine selections are varied and reasonably priced. My partner and I shared 2 appetizers: The calamari, and the mushroom arancini. The calamari is uniquely light and is served in a bed of salad and pickled onions that add zest to the dish. The calamari are fried but are the lightest fried food I have ever had. The same can be said for the arancini, which burst with flavor without being too filling. Our main course was the blackened port tenderloin (we ordered its as a split, and they brought us two plates both of which were ample servings. To accompany the dinner, we had a Cotes de Rhone Parallele 45 by Paul Jaboulet, a fine mix of grenache, syrah, and hints of carignan and Mourvèdre. Given the excellence of the meal, we passed on having dessert this time. Soma is great value for the price and it continues to serve a full restaurant at a pace that welcomes everyone. read more

For Beverly, it's good. Dimly lit, not too loud, and the food and drinks are surprisingly good. The small pizza size is enough for two people: the mushroom pizza has barely any truffle. The seasonal blackberry mojito is also a hit. The final inch will be water due to an abundant amount of ice, but it starts off great. The service is good, unremarkable. read more

I had SOMA for the first time early in my college years, and recently visited again, with plenty of times in between. Each time was very good. Most recently, we had their speciality pizza, which was a Chicken Alfredo pie, and their Caesar Salad with chicken. The pizza was alright, probably a 3/5, not as good as their other pizzas. The salad was good with a huge Parmesan crisp on top. We always love their bread with hummus that they serve complementary before the meal. The Rosemary Salt fries were also very good. We had the Bourbon Smash and the Somatini. The Boubon Smash was phenomenal. Highly recommend it! The Somatini was good but with a very prominent cherry flavor. We decided to try SOMA before going to the Cabot for a concert. I had a cheese pizza my brother had the chicken parmigiana pizza. My wife had a burger. They were all excellent! Pizza is a 8.5 out of 10 and the burger a 9.5. We had the chocolate torte for desert and was decedent. Service was good. Only down side was a bit warm inside. Can't wait to go back! read more

You better bring your work out gear! They want to clear you out fast. Went there with a couple of friends for dinner. At first place seemed great. Our waitress was great our food was decent. Right as we were finishing eating, a young hostess came to our table. She was younger than our party but talked at us like a chastising grandma pursed lips and all. She told us we had reached our time limit and we had to leave. We had all missed the memo that this was still Covid era and we had a 90 minute time limit on dining. This was roughly 5 hours before closing. We were also about half way done with the 15 dollar drinks we still had sitting in front of us. Not even given enough time to finish one martini. Went here for a birthday dinner. Was a mild night for February and the restaurant was very hot. I know many places are short handed but the service was painfully slow. They do have an impressive martini menu. I started with the somatini which was cherry flavored but honestly nothing special. The salmon was very bland and disappointing, honestly did not finish since I was not impressed. The hummus and bread they serve with your meals did make up for the lack of flavor in the entree. Love this place, regularly just get cheese pizza to go. Decided to dine in and try something different and to no surprise is did not disappoint. They are more than adequately abiding by Covid-19 protocols with table distancing, and staff mask and glove wearing. We got chicken quesadilla and chicken Parmesan Pizza (with grilled chicken), both were delicious!! I'd liked Soma restaurant very much. Great American fair in downtown Beverly. I had a nice salad with some hummus and pita bread. The hummus was very very good just as their website claims. The service was very friendly and accurate. I got what I ordered. The restaurant was quite crowded for a Tuesday night. Many people at the bar and the restaurant was pretty full as well. It has been several years since we last visited Soma. We arrived for our 6 PM reservation and were seated promptly. We had asked for high top seating but the high tops are more like little cocktail tables so we sat in the main dining room. The table itself was a bit large for two people and I felt like my wife and I were a little further away than we normally are. My wife was seated on a sofa-type chair, I was seated in a hard Trier that became kind of uncomfortable by the end of the meal. The cocktails were excellent... my wife had a strawberry limoncello martini, I had the Soma bourbon smash. Both drinks A++ For an app we split the fried calamari and it was a great choice. It was served differently than most restaurants, Rhode Island style, a mixture of the calamari rings, also fried hot peppers, arugula and spicy marinara, a wonderful melange of flavors. Finally we shared a margherita pizza, which was quite tasty. If you're looking for Italian style pizza this was not it. It was cooked well done and kind of cracker-crunchy, and the sauce also was not really Italian style but it all worked together, especially the fresh basil. read more
