Solo Tile has a contract with Costco. We put our trust in Solo Tile that if it's from Costco, it must be good - WRONG. If anything we learned from this remodel, is we will NEVER use a contractor through Costco. This was our first and only kitchen remodel in 17 years. We put our trust in Solo only to have our dreams crushed. If anything I learned, I lost my trust in contractors. I contacted Solo through the Costco brochure. It actually took a few weeks to get a response that I called Costco. I think Joe was upset that I did that. He came out, took measurements and showed us some samples. We locked in on a few samples and then scheduled a visit to their showroom. We received the quote, signed the contract and on our way. Went to the showroom, selected our countertop and locked it in. I paid the full amount ahead of the installation. When I was scheduling with the scheduler, she told me the cabinets should go ahead of the countertop. I trusted the scheduler only to find that's not true. No one questioned the scheduler on why she recommended that. This resulted in a return trip with our cabinet installer to fix their work and pay extra. The day of the installation, no one showed. I called to question it and it was pushed to the afternoon, then I looked at the quote and questioned it and they stopped the installation. I paid the full amount ahead of the installation. The one thing to check is the quote. I ended up questioning it through Costco and it delayed my installation by a week because it was laid out like this: Charge for the material, minus the discount equals the total price. What I actually paid was the material cost, because the $1,042 "discount" was my Costco Shop card and Executive membership savings. They want you to believe it's a savings, but all I got was a Costco gift card. Just because I questioned this, the work was pushed another week. Our counters are pretty, but the installation was satisfactory. There were a lot of gaps underneath because the counters should have been installed first. Two big items that stand out from the installation: 1) There is a seam that is visible. It doesn't show on pictures, but if you run your fingernail across it you can feel it. Joe doesn't think it's a problem because we signed off on the paperwork. 2) The sink hole was too large. We realized the installers were anxious to leave, got the sink in there and got me to sign off. What we found out later was when the sink was to be secured, it wasn't latching. For the next few weeks, we went through three different sinks to find a fit, consulted with plumbers and everyone suggested new slab. I spoke to a work contractor who told me to get a filler and it it worked. The lesson learned is to place the paper template for the sink over the hole. It should not fall through. I'm sure if we KNEW to do that at sign off, the template would have fallen through the hole and I wouldn't have signed off. Another thing was we were recommended a backsplash contractor through Joe at Solo but then I got a call from the contractor that he had been released from the job and it was total drama. Another guy called to say he would come in to finish the job, but then he went MIA. This was too sketchy and we dropped both of them because they lost our trust. Overall, I cannot recommend Solo Tile. If you do, schedule your counters before your cabinets and check your sink template before final sign off. I didn't go with my instincts to go with someone else when we never got a response the first time and that is my one regret. The Costco effect may have made it great for their business, but for us, this was a nightmare.

They installed our countertops but failed to properly connect under mount sink. They also scratched our cabinets and put a whole in the wall. They didn't offer to fix and left before we could say anything. Update: we called our contractor friend who confirmed they didn't even appropriately seal the sink and that there are gaps. What a joke. IKEA bares part of the blame for using these people.

We went through Costco and Todd from Solo Tile & Stone came out to do the initial quote. He was prompt and walked us through the process. He was upfront about the 8 week wait, and scheduled our demo and install. The guys showed up for demo and were professional and communicative. One downside is that we had to wait a week between demo and install which was not fun. It would have been better to have a smaller window between the two so we could get our plumber out, but considering the savings we dealt with it. The installers were the same guys who did the demo which was great. All in all it was a good value and we are happy with our purchase. We are not super fussy and we didn't require a lot of assistance so it worked for us.

New Quartz top for kitchen Island by Solo Stone

Hip, hot, happening...but, enough about me. Solo tile and stone is a professional company and they know their stuff. They made an appointment with me to template my island, then they came back a week later to install my new quartz countertop on my kitchen island. They were on time, on point, and just all the way on it, all over it really. They are polite, knowledgeable, professional, considerate, and precise. Mayra, David, Jose, Luis, Victor, and another Jose... thank you!!! You are the best

My journey began several months ago when I had to replace my kitchen cabinets due to water damage from years ago. The house is very old and nothing had been updated for 50+ years. I started shopping around for cabinets and found a local/national company to purchase my cabinets. They were ready to include the countertop as well but they wanted 2 months to get that cut and ready which didn't work for my timeframe. So, I started looking for countertops. I had no idea that Costco actually did them, so I applied for a quote and within a day, Todd from Solo contacted me. He provided a catalog to choose from and then a quote which was great. We discussed options and finalized an agreement. He even upgraded my sink which I liked more. We had to set dates for measurements and install. Todd made sure that my deadline would be met and on time which I greatly appreciated. The team came out to install the countertop and it's just fabulous. What a difference new cabinetry and a countertop can make to an old and dark kitchen. Solo did a great job with the entire process, and I want to thank Todd and his team for making my house feel new again! My wife is going to love it- She doesn't know that I did this yet! :-)

Solo Tile tore out my granite tops and backsplash and installed my Caesarstone and my subway tile. They were so easy to work with! My seam lines look beautiful and my Caesarstone is amazing - they picked parts of the slab with the veining on my peninsula that look great! I have worked with alot of contractors and they are by far the best! They worked fast, efficiently and were always on time.

Purchased countertop from IKEA and got it installed by Solo. Was easy to set up template appointment. Arrived on time . Had to wait 4 weeks till countertop was installed due to backlog. On the day of install, crew arrived a bit later than promised. They protected floors and were very careful when installing. I wish they used less smelly chemicals for cleanup. Have 2 seams, one looks good and the other not so great. But I'm not a specialist and could be just picky as to how it looks. Overall, I'm happy with my countertop. There was one issue that I discovered afterwards, but was able to reach out and resolve it.

Based on my experience, you will not be disappointed. If you want to hear about the overall experience and level of service, then read on... I started off my search by messaging multiple people/companies about countertop fabrication and installation. Some messaged me back, some gave very minimal responses, some places had high prices, some didn't have time for all of my questions. This is the first time I've done any countertop work and I did a lot of research on many different places and scoured the Hayward/San Leandro area and beyond to look at different countertops, designs, etc. Alvaro always responded to all my messages and emails. Every single time. Sometimes my messages would be weeks apart. When I finally made my decision to go with him, it was well over a month from when I first contacted him. He stuck with me all along the way and that left an impression on me, especially in this type of business. I had a few strange questions about different options and configurations of the counters and he was always responsive with open and honest opinions and information. Once I finally picked out my material, he met me at the shop where I purchased the counter to check out the material and he helped me make sure we were getting a good piece that wasn't too warped. All of this helped reassure me that he approved of my selection and that his trained eye could notice things that I wouldn't be able to notice on my own. He picked up the slab with his truck and took it off to fabricate and cut. He showed up a few days later for the install and it was done in no time. Oh, I forgot to mention that he stopped by and did a consultation and looked everything over and provided a ton of really helpful advice and analysis of the job, how he would suggest doing it, what he wouldn't suggest etc. He also brought some samples with him for me to check out and offered a great price on countertops that he already had on hand. The entire experience is everything that you would hope for in a countertop install. I will recommend him to anyone that need any countertop work. The pricing was some of the best I could find, the work was high quality (still looking great and holding up 7 months in) and Alvaro was a pleasure to work with. Thank you very much for everything!

He was great and very clear answering my questions about the feasibility of the project, what material to use, and the timeline he could do the project in. He gave a great recommendation of where we could find a slab the size we needed (we needed an unusually large slab and he knew exactly where we could go - MSI in Hayward!). He came earlier this week to measure and make a template for the slabs, then came this morning to install with his team. It was quick, easy, and excellent! Him doing preparation with a template to take into account imperfections where we were going to install was excellent and the slabs look beautiful in our space. I highly recommend him!

He took on a complex job for us, cutting several slabs of delicate and expensive quartzite stone. We were very impressed by his precision, transparency, and care throughout the process. Miguel customized every piece to fit perfectly around our custom cabinetry--down to an eighth of an inch. His meticulous attention to detail ensured that the natural veining, lines, and color variations of the quartzite flowed beautifully from one section to the next. Avoid for Large Projects - Poor Communication, Costly Mistakes, and Delays…read more I would not hire R&A Stone and Tile unless you are a contractor yourself and can monitor the job 24/7. They may be fine for small tiling jobs, or a cheap kitchen flip that you don't care about the quality but anything beyond that is a mistake. Project Experience: -Disorganized & Poor Communication: Ruben, the contractor, constantly miscommunicated with his crew, leading to errors and wasted time. The crew speaks limited English, and Ruben failed to properly relay instructions. -Constant Rescheduling & Delays: The project was plagued with intentional delays because they were trying to juggle randoms crew members to the job site. They do not have a dedicated crew. To keep the job moving, I had to step in and install my stove hood myself. Quality of Work: -Minimal Supervision & Costly Mistakes: Ruben was only on-site for 30 minutes to an hour a day. The crew made frequent errors, wasted materials, and ultimately cost me an extra $5,000 in materials. Unprofessional Workmanship: -A crew member (Adrian) improperly used self-leveling, causing mortar to seep through walls and doors. -The same worker almost set my kitchen on fire due to incorrect wiring. -A junior crew member (Manuel) threw away new materials, further increasing costs. -My husband and I had to redo the wall texture they applied because it was done so poorly. -The countertop was improperly installed (by Victor), leading to a post-installation crack. The contractor promised to fix it but was a no-show, wasting an entire day of our time. -The dishwasher was incorrectly installed (Ricardo), requiring my husband to take a day off to reinstall it. Material Pricing & Usage: The contractor ordered materials on my behalf, but the pricing changed and was increased without transparency. The crew also took materials I paid for to use on other job sites. Also on two occasions, we had to order more tiles at 3x the cost because all the measurements were incorrect. Other Issues: -The crew trashed and clogged our bathroom toilet. They denied responsibility until I installed a camera--only then did the issue stop. -Never reimbursed or refunded for damages and extra expenses. Final Verdict: Ruben is a nice guy and means well, but his company is not equipped for big jobs (over $10K). If you have a small bathroom tile job, they might be fine, but anything beyond that--find a better contractor. We rushed to finish the project just to be done with them, and in hindsight, we should have hired someone else from the start. Do not make the same mistake we did. 2/5 - Would not recommend for major home renovations. Recommend for small jobs only.
