Wow, I cannot stop thinking about the seafood paella at Solar :-p Honestly, it's like a little ocean party on your plate! everything tastes so fresh and perfectly seasoned and the seafood is so generous that you might need a bib (just saying). Every bite made me smile. The service was fantastic, too! super friendly and attentive without hovering. They made me feel welcome, like I was part of some secret, delicious club. Came to Solar Do Minho for the first time for a late lunch/early dinner at 3pm on Saturday. It was pretty much empty until later on around 5pm. They had valet parking, and there is some street parking. Street parking might be a little difficult when it is busy. I did not see what the other side looked like, but the tables were all able to see the cooks cooking the meat, and the seating area was not so big. My table ordered a few dishes including ribs, churrasco mixto, fix, and soup. 3 of us also got the rodizio. It took about 40 minutes for the food to come out. Overall the food was good and came in big portions. The chips that came with the fish were a bit soggy. The rodizio included a large variety, which we did see all of the options until more people started coming in after us. The rodizio came with fries, rice, and a fried banana. Every cut of meat was flavorful and tender. The only tough one was the filet mignon, and the chicken was dry. It was interesting that they asked each of how we would like our meat to be cooked (I ordered medium), despite it all coming out only how one person asked (my brother asked for it medium rare). I was okay with how it was cooked, but I did not see a point in asking everyone individually if we were all going to get the same ones. When we're paying it was a bit awkward because the waiter insisted that we "lost" the 4th check, but we counted and made sure before we handed it to him. read more

Came here for lunch with friends and ordered: Paella Valenciana, Octopus with Olive Oil (Polvo a Feira), Skirt Steak (Entranha), Fillet of Flounder, Churrasco Misto. The highlight of the place was the skirt steak. It was amazing, cooked properly, and juicy. The presentation was superb as well. All the portion were big and we had leftover for a party of 4. The ambiance was superb and they allowed and accommodated us having a lovely dog as one of our companions. I'd say amazing service Street parking might be limited but shouldnt stop you from checking out this place and enjoying its food offering. Phenomenal experience! Dined on a Friday night with my daughter and Father. The Portuguese steak was delicious and cooked to perfection as was the Filet Mignon. The sangria (red) was refreshing and well balanced. What really took our experience to the next level though was our server Daniel. We have been here twice in two weeks, and we absolutely love it. Three of us get Rodizio and three of us get regular meals. Now let me say that the service is amazing, we have had Larissa both times and she is always happy and ready to help. She is very quick. The Rodizio is prepared specifically for your table and what we really like is that they don't just bring it out fast, they bring it out when your entire party has their food as well. So everyone eats together! The restaurant is nice, well lit, and a full filled atmosphere. I highly recommend! We will be back soon. For reference my 9 year old loves Rodizio never had shrimp before, ate shrimp here for the first time, ate a chicken heart, and everything is full of flavor. Was seated at the worst table in the restaurant, even after reservations were made over a week in advance. Nothing like sitting in the front door the restaurant with people hovering over you while you're trying to eat. My family has been coming here for over a decade. I can't believe that I have never written a review before now! Tucked into a side street in Belleville, Solar Do Minho is a charming place. They have valet parking so don't worry about that. The decor is very homey Portuguese. All the staff are very courteous and efficient. We always order the Riodizio for our meal. This comes with delicious rice and black beans, fries, and fried bananas. Then get ready for the meat parade! Almost every meat you can think of comes to you on skewers ready to get on your plate. Some of my personal favorites are the garlic steak, pork ribs, cheese steak, and chicken hearts. Everything is very well seasoned. They will keep coming until you surrender. After the meat, they serve some delicious grilled pineapple which acts as a digestive aid. Which believe me, you are gonna need. Also, the Sangria is a must order. We always have a pitcher of the red. It is sensational! If you are not in a meat coma by now, they do have some delicious Flan. I really recommend Solar Do Minho. I think it's much easier than going to Newark, and the experience will not let you down. read more

We hit Solar Do Minho last night for my 50th birthday and they did not disappoint. Luckily we got there just in time as we did not have reservations and it got crowded very quickly. This is at 7pm on a Thursday evening. We started with a pitcher of sangria. It was very well made and the amount they give you seemed bottomless. The pitcher is huge. My wife and I never have a problem taking care of a pitcher of sangria and this just seemed to never stop flowing. For an appetizer, we got the calamari. Excellent with a little spicy marinara sauce on the side. Myself, my wife and our older son got the Rodizio which came with white rice, black beans and yellow rice with red beans. They just keep coming around. Steaks, chicken, turkey wrapped in bacon, Lamb, ribs, sausage. You won't leave hungry. Our youngest got the filet mignon which they finish off on a Portuguese tile at the table with butter and of course for his sides, he opted for a double Order of fries. It looked excellent and very tender and being that he ate it all, it must've been good. For dessert, I went with the dulce de leche and a cappuccino with a shot of 43. We had a drink at the bar $40.00 for pitcher of Sangria, maybe I've been staying home to much. The 4 of us head to the dining area and are given a specials menu along with 2 full menus. We are told to scan the code to see the menu. Honestly, this scan the code Bull**t ticks me off. If I wanted to read the menu on my phone, I'd stay home UGH!. We start off with an order of shrimp & Garlic traditional style with hands down the smallest shrimp, I've ever had. Sauce was good and dish was tasty overall. The clams in garlic sauce & white wine were also excellent. Entrees we split two items. 1st was the house special Rib Eye served on some sort of hot shingle with compound butter dripping down into a little dish. The steak that was not fat was very good, but $49.00 and it was NOT a large portion, and a good amount of the meat was just fat and inedible. The sides of Rice & Spanish Potatoes were pedestrian at best. The other plater of "CHURASCO" meats came with red beans & rice which were good. The Meat platter was really not good at all. Overcooked, dry with no flavor other than heavy doses of salt. 1 Chocolate cake was rich and tasty coffee was very bitter. In short it is local & convenient, but at these prices they need to step up their game as I was not really impressed. Came here on a Saturday afternoon before the dinner rush came in & good thing we came earlier because it got packed quick. Ordered the sangria, calamari for starters & tableside cooked skirt steak. The sangria is hands down the best I've had - you couldn't tell there was any alcohol in it (which is dangerous) and the calamari tasted really good! The skirt steak got cooked tableside and it tasted so so good, was cooked to medium and honestly melted in your mouth. Next time I visit I'd love to try their rodizio & more of their sangria. Although the parking situation can be a bit annoying, the restaurant and food is worth it! (Also worth nothing they've got an outdoor setup with heaters, but my party sat inside) read more

I'm a 15 year veteran of this place. It was our all time fave and we drive more than 1 1/2 hrs. We have hosted large gatherings, turned many friends on to this place. The original owner sadly passed away about 5 years ago. And our wonderful steak house has gradually gone downhill ever since. Every eatery will have an off night. But this has been a trend over our last 10 visits or so. Last night was the earning of my Sicilian Cross. Never to return. Large pitchers of sangria now $40. The Rodizio 55. The prices have gone up and the food quality and service have gone way down. Not good. Ill cherish the memories of the great times we have had there. Came here with my extended family to celebrate my birthday along with another family member. It's a beautiful restaurant located in a residential neighborhood. They do have valet parking but I was able to find a spot around the corner on Washington Ave. The ambiance was just right for a Sunday afternoon. The dining area was able half full and we were brought to our table within a minute of arriving. We ordered calamari and garlic shrimp for apps, with the rodizio and piccanha for entrees. The calamari was unimpressive, and garlic shrimp were pretty small although tasty. For the entrees, rodizio is pretty standard, with the servers bringing chicken, ribeye, prime rib and bacon wrapped filet mignon. All the cuts were very good and I appreciated the timeliness and sharp attention of the servers. I had mineral water but other members of my party had their house red sangria and it was good, not great but good. Lastly, I had the apple cheesecake and my table mates had chocolate mousse and tiramisu (probably the most excellent of all). So all in all, this was a good but not excellent experience. I really wish the calamari was better and crispier. I won't complain about their rodizio but if you'd like me to come back, it needs to be better, with greater variety of meats and cuts. read more

It looks like they usually have parking lot but it's now a tented in seating area with nice tables and heat lamps. I sat inside, but the outdoor area looked pretty nice. There was valet parking, but I didn't notice the sign until leaving the restaurant. If you skip the valet, there may be a bit of walking from wherever you find street parking. I came for the rodizio. They start you off with rolls and olives on the table. The bread was soft with butter, but I only had half a roll. The meal comes with sides - fries, beans, and rice. I tried a little of each. These were fine, but not worth filling up the stomach on. The rodizio started fairly quickly. I've been to other places that start you with the cheaper meats to seemingly fill you up on those first - but here the filet mignon came by as one of the first. They also had ribeye, garlic steak, sausage, cheesesteak, lamb, garlic steak, chicken, ham. They ask you the temperate of beef you like and have that come around. After you've had them all, the waiter asks which if any you'd like again. They were all great! Nice succulent flavor, some were a bit salty, but all were very juicy and crispy on the outside, and soft inside. There was enough pause between skewers to eat but quickly enough you weren't left yearning. Then you get a nice slice of cinnamoned pineapple at the end. Even when I was so stuffed, they came around with a tray filled with desserts so you could see their daily specials. I caved seeing the variety that I would have otherwise declined seeing a menu, so smart on their part. I got a caramel mousse to share. It was small but very rich, light and sweet without being too sweet. Actually a really nice end to the meal. The price keeps me from immediately returning, but this is great for a special occasion or fancy date. read more

I'm so confused why this place has so many stars. Wondering if we had an off day, but boy this place was not good. Service was atrocious. We went during lunch time, so there were about 2 other tables eating and the waiters were just standing around most of the time. Even with the minimal business going on, they forgot our coke refill that we requested 4 times, they didn't seem to understand our questions about the food. Mind you we are fluent in spanish, english and portuguese speakers and while speaking all 3 languages the waiters seemed to not understand our questions or the menu in general. The food was not good. If you're looking for quality/authentic portuguese food- this is not the place. The caldo verde soup was made out of boxed potatoes. All other dishes including the shrimp stuffed with crab meat and the bbq chicken did not taste authentic. The bbq chicken was too dry and way too salty. When we went to order the chocolate mousse we asked if it was premade or homemade, to which they responded homemade- that was false. We ordered 2 cappuccinos and they were watered down. I give one star because the shrimp penne a la vodka, which is not Portuguese, was actually decent. It didn't taste so much like a penne a la vodka sauce, but none the less it had good flavor and came with a lot of shrimp. read more

They kept brining the meat until we were all done. The place has valet parking so you don't have to worry about parking your car as parking in that area can get tricky. Poor food quality, meat cuts were sub-par, shrimp was not fresh and calamari was chewy and poorly breaded. Worst rice and beans I've ever had, overly tasted of canned tomato sauce. Have been coming here for almost ten years and this past visit will be the last. Had to repeatedly request water service for the table. Sangria was the ultimate disappointment. Spare yourself the headache nothing delicious in that carafe or on that table. Bread service was debatable. Ambiance is hectic and service was poor, friendly but not thoughtful. For example, if only a few in your party are having the rodizio, the waiter should have the foresight to inform that person to sit at an appropriate end of the table so as not to disturb those attempting to eat their own entree. I enjoy dining out and supporting local restaurants but these folks seem to be missing some important cues. read more

Came here with a group, one warning right away is that the restaurant is on a side street with limited parking. They have a valet but I got lucky for once and found a spot right across the street..... but don't count on this, the valet is probably a safer bet. Haven't been to many restaurants during Covid but they gave us a big table in a corner by ourselves in the bar area. Was great because this was probably about as normal as any restaurant would look during this. If it wasn't for the masks on the waiters would have been just like any other time. The restaurant is nice inside and they have a huge tent with heaters outside.....plenty of seating. The bar area was lively and had some TV's The food was the star of the show here.....there were no complaints. I had the garlic shrimp which the Portuguese do really well....no different here. Other plates were the shell steak cooked on a roof tile (pretty cool), flounder stuffed with crab meat (a little heavy but good), salmon, and filet minon. Everyone enjoyed the food and we also had a couple of pitchers of sangria which was also enjoyed. The appetizer was a Portuguese sausage flambé which was also pretty good. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. It's gonna be a bit of an expensive night but it was worth it for good food. Just bring some mints.....the Portuguese do love their garlic. read more

The cheese steak, rib eye and garlic steak are the best. The food is phenomenal. Skirt Steak on a clay roof tile is tmy absolute favorite. The garlic butter is the perfect added touch. Garlic shrimp and the Chorizo Assado appetizers are a must. Tried the cream of Collard green soup... different but good. Needed a little salt and pepper. Crab stuffed shrimp was delicious. Although the service was good, for a Portuguese restaurant the food had no flavor, very bland, and overly priced. The calamari which was either frozen or fake, was extremely hard, and the spicy sauce was a mild taco sauce. I got together with some friends to get food and drinks. I have been here before but this is my first review. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and found my friend at the bar. We were served by Livia and she was very nice and attentive. We started with sangria and it was a little light and sweet so she added more red wine and that was good and also I had an espresso martini which was good. For my food I got the garlic shrimp and had that with bread. The shrimp was very good. The flavor melted in your mouth. My friend enjoyed their filet mignon. The bill was about $41 for myself. Been coming here for 15 years and I think yesterday was probably the last time. I've never had issues with the food at Solar - hell, we drive almost 2 hours to get here. It's always our "go to" place for any kind of celebrations and came yesterday afternoon for my SIL b'day. Was greeted by a young woman sitting in the foyer, in a sweatsuit playing on her phone. Sat in a corner in the dining room, right next to the kitchen. Large red pitcher and 2 orders of the garlic shrimp. The shrimp have gotten smaller thru the years and put into much smaller containers. Still delicious (arguably the best in the State) but the cost is now over $22.00 an order. Two of us ordered the Tornedo Filet Tropical at $55.00 an order. Three nice pieces of filet with a few shrimp thrown in served in a cut out pineapple. My favorite, but something was off last night about this dish. SIL got his favorite, strip steak on roof tile - no complaints there. Husband got the rodizio and that's really where the trouble started. Got the customary turkey & sausage, brought picanha three times and tried to give him a beef rib. They showed up 5x in over an hour, three of which were picanha. Watched the other diners get different meats, including the cheese steak, garlic steak and possibly filet. I'm getting aggravated watching. I ate one piece of my filet and asked for it to be wrapped. There were two shrimp on my plate which I did not eat. My friend who ordered the same thing, also ate one filet and ONE shrimp and asked for it to be boxed. My husband mentioned to the waiter "don't confuse them, they're cooked to different temps". Just went to heat it up for dinner tonight. I got the rare (ordered med well) and I think my friend is probably eating hers over cooked. All new faces. Was it sold? I think we're done, other than if we're in the area and only maybe want a pitcher and some shrimp .... it's a shame. That's a lot of money for a meal that 3/4 of the party thought was terrible.
