The service was outstanding from start to finish -- warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. The restaurant has a very open kitchen, and several of the chefs took time to show us what they were doing and explain the preparation. They were excited to talk about the paella pans, the saffron and sofrito rice base, the wood-and-charcoal fire, and the way the dishes were finished. They clearly take pride in the food and enjoy sharing that with guests. We had the pão with cardamom-chile butter, roasted oysters, garlic shrimp, picanha, the meatball paella, and olive-oil tres leches cake, along with Alvarinho wine and a draft beer. The paella rice itself was excellent, with a very good socarrat and a strong wood-fired character. The pork-and-beef meatballs were good on their own, though for me the combination was a little unusual and I would choose a different paella variation next time. Always changing paella of the day. Seafood would excite me when available. The picanha, oysters, shrimp, bread, and dessert were also all very good. The whole restaurant operated as a team. That added a lot to the experience because the people serving the food really understood how it was prepared. Even small details were thoughtful. Our leftovers were kept at the host stand and we were given a numbered claim disc to retrieve the bag on the way out -- a simple idea that avoids having takeout bags sitting on the table or floor. I had never seen that done before. Overall, Lita delivered very good food with exceptional hospitality. The open kitchen, wood-and-charcoal cooking, and interaction with the chefs made the meal feel personal and memorable. We would definitely return, especially to try another paella variation.

Our waiter was difficult to understand and couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. The bread was so overbaked and hard we were worried about breaking a tooth. The shrimp appetizer was very good, although swimming in oil; the Iberico rib meat was greasy and came with raw garlic. When the plates were cleared, oil was spilled onto our table. Then we waited about 45 minutes for our entrees and eventually had to track someone down ourselves. We later discovered our waiter eating at the bar while we were waiting. The octopus was both charred and undercooked and far too salty. The nearly 3-inch-thick pork chop, ordered medium, was raw in the center. The "apricot brandy reduction" was essentially jam on top, and the potato chips were thick and underfried. The $37 pork chop was essentially inedible. Getting the check was another ordeal--we had to ask multiple times and were even brought another customer's check and credit card by mistake. There was no adjustment to our bill. After paying, we also had to wait to get our card back. The bartender did seem genuinely concerned when we told him what happened and ultimately offered 10% off a future visit, but after this experience, we certainly won't be returning. The shrimp were good and the bartender tried to help, but overall the food, service, and handling of the situation were far below what we expected.

They also start you with very good bread with olive oil and some olives. For our entrées we got Chilean Seabass, Branzino fillet, and Mariscada, which is a big shellfish stew. While it's not indicated on the menu, all entrées come with saffron rice, sautéed vegetables... And their homemade potato chips. The person who got the Mariscada was so happy. It had every kind of fresh shellfish and really was enough for two people. I really enjoyed the Branzino fillet, which came with a lemon caper sauce. It was huge and very delicious, I had to give some pieces away. The Chilean Seabass is the most expensive, at $55. For me, I felt that I have had better Seabass and I preferred my $36 branzino. But the person who ordered it was thrilled and thought it was amazing, and gets it every time here. I loved the saffron rice, and the homemade potato chips. I didn't eat the sautéed vegetables (there was just too much food everywhere!). But the person who tried them thought they were extremely delicious. Overall, this is a great place for sharing, with tons of food. And the cucumber, harissa yogurt, pistachio and sesame seed appetizer showed that they are innovating and not just doing your parent's Don Pepe. Oliver was also a super server as was everyone else on the team.
