Celebrated my dad's birthday here with a group of 6 on a weekday. Parking on site; when you enter you really feel like you have stepped into vacation mode and out of NJ which is wonderful. Staff is friendly and space is pretty open with great lighting and tons of seating options for groups large and small. We ordered a bunch of apps and the paella along with the sangria which was YUM! Ok now doe the breakdown Chorizo (5/5) really solid option and the table enjoyed it Lamb chips (5/5) super juicy and tender really flavorful and a great option Broccoli Rabe (1/5) really bland kind of a fail for me sadly Paella (3/5) it is definitely more of a 2 person sharing option if you were only eating this. We had a number of apps and sides so it fed our table well. On its own it was fine but not spectacular in terms of flavor and rice was cooked fine. No major issues just not wow for me personally. Sangria (5/5) really great refreshing and I would recommend the pitcher! Dessert we got the crème brulle which was yum and we also ordered the baklava with iced cream which was delish! Menu is substantial but not overwhelming, value is there and pricing is respectable without breaking the bank. I would come back with an eye towards drinks and apps :)

Outstanding! This newly renovated restaurant which is now the new home to the old and closed Don Pepe ( new name ) is amazing. The restaurants atmosphere is bright and airy. Very comfortable. The bar/lounge area is also large, fresh and inviting. The 2 1/2 lb steamed lobsters were cooked to perfection. Soft, juicy and tender. Very fresh. The bone in rib eye was perfectly cooked to medium rare. Soft and very tender. Side dishes of fresh cut potato chips and mixed vegetables topped it off. A very nice complimentary portion of fried zucchini slices with Parmesan cheese started us off. The mature d and service staff were not only professional but polite, attentive, engaging and very sincere. Excellent service. Plenty of easy parking with valet parking on the weekends.

Third visit in 45 days - definitely our new favorite! Celine at the front is always friendly and the staff is attentive. We had 2 separate, unrelated reservations that she was able to combine into one on a Saturday night - impressive. My wife swore she was going to try something different but ended up with the Shrimp in green sauce she's ordered every time - loved it so much. I tried the scallops and they did not disappoint - nice sear on outside, tender on the inside. Interesting choice to pair with mashed potatoes - I would have liked more flavor in the potatoes. The grilled octopus is my new favorite appetizer. The Mariscada is probably the best overall dish on the menu - IMO. The outside seating is finally open - we were inside in the dining room to the left near the bar as this has the biggest table. Love the modern, light decor. My only negative is still the same - it's loud.

We only did the takeout here so far but the paella is out of the world. They packed in so nicely for us and it can easily serve 4 people. Maybe they use red palm oil? Either way, I am sold! It is hard to find solid Mediterranean options sometimes. The price is reasonable. The interior looks fancy so it could make for a nice sit down dinner too.

Came here for a guy's night and this place did not disappoint! It's a Mediterranean restaurant so there was a wide range of different flavors and many aged meats. Decent beer selection and it had been a while since I had Mythos (Greek beer) so I had to order that and it brought back many memories. Bread and olive oil was brought to our table to start things off. We decided to share a bunch of tapas for appetizers and went with the thick cut bacon, ham croquettes, grilled squid, shrimp in garlic sauce, and the chorizo. Everything was amazing so we couldn't wait to get our mains. Since we were a party of 5, we split a Rib eye steak and a paella valenciana. Super tasty and flavorful. The desserts were fantastic as well. We ordered a wide assortment but our favorite was the Basque burnt cheesecake.

Starting with the good: the restaurant is stunning, and the service is warm, they make you feel like a vip! But...in a place where the Iberian may be the best in the US I expected more. Don Pepe has a legacy in NJ of authentic delicious Iberian cuisine and to me this fell short. The pulpo a la gallega, a standard Spanish dish was not crispy at all :-( the pan con tomate another favorite had good flavor but was not toasted. Thankfully the paella was better with all the flavors you would expect. I hope that it was just because they just opened and will improve!

On Thursday, my boyfriend and I decided to visit the location that was formally known as Don Pepe Steak House. The location is under new ownership and is now called Olivo. I remember clearly what it used to look like inside since I had been there a few times. Now all I can say is wow! What was once a caterpillar has blossomed into a gorgeous butterfly! The new owners have totally transformed this location into the most amazing restaurant. From start to finish, my boyfriend and I had an incredible evening. The ambience is spectacular! We arrived for dinner and it was still daylight outside. There are now huge windows in the whole restaurant enabling natural lighting inside. In addition, there is also a skylight in one of the dining rooms. Under it sits and olive tree. It really is a beautiful centerpiece when you walk in and see that. We ate in that dining area, which was right behind the bar. Our server, Miguel was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. He suggested wines according to my likes and went over the menu and gave us his recommendations. We decided to try a bunch of appetizers even though I originally went in to try the bacon steak. There were so many apps it was so hard to pick just one. All of the appetizers had were excellent! The bacon steak did not disappoint! The Greek salad was very refreshing. For our main entrees we decided to go with fish and steak. Might as well have the the best of both worlds! LOL! The baked Branzino was very fresh and had a light taste, not fishy at all. The dry aged Porterhouse was huge and they sliced it for us before it came out. I had the filet side and it was super tender and juicy. For sides we had Spanish potatoes, saffron rice and mixed veggies. We had so much food left over! Of course my kids devoured it when we got home. I'm not sure how I had any room left for dessert but as stuffed as I was I just had to try the Burnt Basque Cheesecake which Miguel highly recommended. He was not kidding when he said it was so creamy and unlike any other cheesecake around. When you go to Olivo, please do yourself a favor and have this cheesecake for dessert. You will be hooked. You can thank me later. My compliments to the chef for preparing our excellent meal! The service was as spectacular as the food. Miguel was da bomb and Eduardo, the manager visited with us several times throughout the evening. He made us feel so welcome and at home. He was very gracious and thankful that we chose to dine there. He invited us back and back we will go. My mom is turning 81 and I already reserved a table for a small group of us to celebrate with her. It's a surprise! Shhh... don't tell her! I highly recommend a visit and make a reservation. By the looks of it, Olivo has it all and they will be doing very well.

Olivo Mediterranean Fare in Pine Brook, NJ, is a fresh and exciting addition to the dining scene, bringing a perfect blend of Mediterranean flavors with a Spanish flair. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and attentive service, led by our fantastic server Tony, set the stage for a memorable meal. Every dish we tried during the soft opening was outstanding. The octopus--a notoriously difficult dish to perfect... was incredibly tender with a beautiful char, ranking among the best we've ever had. The tapas kept exceeding expectations, each one better than the last. By the time the entrées arrived, we wondered if the meal could get any better... and it did. With valet parking available and a menu this strong, we predict Olivo will quickly become a hot spot. Make reservations early because this place is bound to be packed. Huge thumbs up from our group, and we wish the team the best of luck with this new venture. As always, support local businesses, you won't regret giving Olivo a try! @vinopotato

An amazing fine dining experience. From the valet that takes your car, to the warm welcome by all the staff, as well as a beautiful dining atmosphere. Usually you'd have to go to NYC for this but now it's right at your front door. Compliments to the chef on all the amazing food, highlighting the octopus, paella, and baked branzino. Excited to come back and try their dry aged meats!

From the outside, it looks small, but it's pretty spacious inside. When we were seated, our server gave us a brief history of the distillery. I love that it's family-owned and all of the ingredients are locally sourced from NJ. There are so many different cocktail options, and some of them were so creative in their presentation. Since I was having a difficult time deciding, I went with the Espresso Martini flight. It came with a Traditional, Pistachio, and Jelly Ring martini. I also ordered a cookie butter martini. My favorite was definitely the creamy pistachio martini. I am so happy to have discovered Jersey Spirits Distilling and can't wait to visit again soon!

I sat at the bar because the wait for a table was long, and the service was excellent. Each of the bartenders was friendly and attentive. For dinner, I had the Bader Sting pizza, which featured soppressata, mozzarella, tomato sauce, and hot honey. It was fantastic. My mate had the grandma pizza (mozzarella, pecorino romano, pesto, garlic, tomato sauce, oregano), and it was equally delicious. Since we were served bread before the meal, we could've shared one pizza since it had 6 slices, but I was glad I had leftovers. We couldn't get a table as walk-ins, but the bar high-tops were totally fine. The staff was attentive, and for a busy Sunday we were able to place our order pretty quickly. We tried the eggplant pizza, citrus olives, and the beet salad. The pizza was super fresh and came straight out of the wood oven, but honestly the standout parts of the meal were the house-made marinated citrus olives and the warm bread they slice and serve as soon as you sit down. Those olives are a must-order. The rest of the meal was solid, though the beet salad was just okay--it could have used more volume and toppings to make it feel more balanced. Service was friendly, but they did linger a bit and stopped by our table more than I would've preferred, I'm talking the server, busser, and food runner? and some other random employees? Love how willing they are to make sure you're having a good dining experience but it was quite disruptive to the actual meal.

Describing his behavior as merely rude would be an understatement; his conduct was obnoxious, unprofessional, and unnecessarily aggressive. First, being charged the full $80 price for a guest who did not attend was extremely shocking and disappointing. More concerning, however, was the manner in which Tom approached and addressed us. In all my years of dining out, I have never experienced such poor service or such an inappropriate attitude from restaurant staff. When we arrived (around 7pm) there was only one occupied table in the restaurant. The room was cold and drafty, as if they were trying to save money on the heating. We had to change tables twice trying to avoid the chill which was forcing my mother to keep her winter coat on. On our first visit, the breadbasket included some delicious garlic bread. That was gone this time. Previously, the staff immediately set out an ice bucket and glasses when they saw our bottle of white wine. This time we had to ask for both, twice. Throughout the meal, we watched our waiter standing in the doorway to the kitchen engrossed in whatever he was doing with his cell phone. Given that the restaurant was virtually empty, the fact that we couldn't get his attention when we started to have issues was frustrating. I chose the Calamari Chino again as an appetizer. I enjoyed it so much on our first visit that it was the one thing I knew I wanted again. Unfortunately, I ended up sending it back. Although it looked like the same dish at first glance, the crispy and tender calamari I loved the first time was now soggy and rubbery. My mother again went with the Grilled Norwegian Salmon, which she enjoyed. My father had the Paccheri & Shrimp alla Vodka, which is described on the menu as sautéed wild shrimp, over paccheri pasta with a creamy vodka sauce, oyster mushrooms, & green peas. He wasn't a fan of this. It seemed to be missing both the oyster mushrooms, & the green peas. He also described it as being "goopy" and thought it tasted artificially thickened in some way. I ordered the New Coconut Jumbo Shrimp, which is served with grilled asparagus, white rice, in an orange marmalade sauce. I had high hopes for this since coconut shrimp is a favorite of mine. The presentation was quite nice, but the shrimp was overcooked, and the coconut coating was nearly burnt. I believe it had been left in the deep fryer too long. Frankly, if I had not sent back the calamari I would have sent this back as well. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant still looks nice, but it seems like they're just going through the motions now. I don't see us returning.

We skipped on dessert and got dessert drinks instead - I had the Tiramisu Martini which was delightful!

The staff were so nice to us. They came around with play "dough" of leftover pizza dough…read more The vodka pizza was good. The rest of it was mediocre. The cheese bread they brought out in the beginning was amazing. The decor was festive for Grinchmas but it's a separate event to be there when he comes out. It's decent for a restaurant attached to a hotel.

It is hard to believe that Mandaloun was once a Friendly's - best known for family-friendly…read moreinexpensive, American comfort food like burgers, sandwiches, and ice cream. The new owners have completely reimagined the space into a moderately upscale, but still family-friendly, Mediterranean oasis with a contemporary aesthetic that's also a huge culinary step up from its predecessor. The staff was friendly and super attentive without ever being overbearing and went the extra mile to ensure we had a great meal and a great experience. My dining companion and I started with the special Trio Dip ($20), a fantastic, delicious starter with shareable portions of traditional hummus, a unique avocado hummus, and perfectly smoky baba ghanoush with crunchy walnuts alongside with a basket of warmly toasted pita bread. For our entree, we decided to share the Mandaloun Mix Grill ($40) and split the three kebabs -- filet mignon shish, ground beef kofta, and grilled chicken. This platter is a masterclass in grilling with three juicy and flavorful kebabs. Mandaloun also pays attention to small details that make the dining experience so memorable. We were both huge fans of the dipping dish with a concoction of olive oil, za'atar seasoning, and sesame seeds served with the pita and the toum -- an emulsion of garlic, oil, lemon juice, and salt which creates a thick, mayonnaise-like condiment that is 100% vegan and dairy-free -- served alongside our entree that's a perfect zesty pairing for the grilled chicken. One of the staff noticed how much I enjoyed both and brought over a small 'to go' container of each for us to take home. There was also a brief "if you know, you know" moment during dinner that I am sure was entirely unintentional. Our Mandaloun Mix Grill entree came with a tasty green salad topped with crispy pita strips, which felt like a very sophisticated homage to the Friendly's Crispy Chicken Salad entree that was topped with tortilla strips. PRO TIP #1: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home to enjoy with your meal. Mandaloun is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. PRO TIP #2: Bring cash. Mandaloun has added a small surcharge for using credit cards to pay for your meal.
