Caldo de feijão. Very tasty
Renato M.

I have been to Brasas many times but I'm updating my review because during my last 2 visits the waitress was very pushy trying to get my wife to order a drink and when my wife said she was driving and could not drink alcohol the waitress kept trying to get her to order a virgin cocktail even though my wife said no multiple times. Even when she was already drinking soda every 5 minutes they kept asking her if she wanted a cocktail. They seem a little desperate trying to sell stuff and this has happened more than once.

Steak and Shrimp
Darren S.

I had gone to Brasas Grill Bar last week around lunch-time. Service was very good; my friend and I were seated almost immediately. From my photo, you can see that I ordered the "Steak and Shrimp", which is priced at $22.99. Maybe I come from an american mindset, but when I picture Steak, I envision steak? The steak portion of the "Steak and Shrimp" were pieces of cut meat --- not steak. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious; the meat just caught me by surprise. In any case service and food were 4 stars. The missing star is simply because some people could be confused by the name of a menu item.

The Ultimate BBQ MIX

This place was great! We had such a great time the owner/manager was super helpful and friendly, our waitress was great and the food was so damn tasty. We got the ultimate BBQ mix that said was for 2 on the menu but easily could have fed 3 maybe 4. The bartender did a great job with all of our cocktails and just overall we had a great time. The place was super busy though with big groups so you might want to call ahead if you're coming on a Saturday night. Overall I'll probably be back when my meat sweats stop. Cheers!

a glass of limeade

This place exudes a very cool vibe. There's a friendly, knowledgeable staff, well crafted cocktails and menu filled with all your favorite Brazilian dishes. The fried chicken app was incredible. Perfectly crisp and crunchy, served with a homemade hot sauce which was worth the price of admission alone! The garlic shrimp will keep the vampires at bay for the rest of the night. The mixed grill was a beautifully crafted cutting board piled high, a carnivore's dream. Tres Leches and Churros for desert finished the meal off. On this Saturday karaoke was just warming up around 8:00. We were only a table of 4 but the gratuity was added to the bill. I have no problem with that as long as I know. We tipped on top of that since the service was exceptional, deserving of more than 18%. This place needs to be a regular in my restaurant rotation!

Whole sea bass along with marinated vegetables and salmon in the far background.

This is a real Brazilian place which is not common in Kearny and is much more like the Brazilian restaurants which you might find in Ironbound. The food was excellent; I had both the sea bass and the salmon. The sea bass is the entire fish and it is grilled just as I would always want to have in any restaurant, with no fancy attempts at sauces. Both dishes were served with a wonderful combination of marinated vegetables and white rice, and the fish was clearly recently caught. I tried the lemonade which was tasty and was served with a few fresh lime slices. The staff were from Brazil and were consistently helpful. By good luck this place is less than a one-mile walk from my house.

Churasco mix for 1
Tristan S.

A hidden gem in Kearny, NJ! The grilled whole sea bass was perfect. It reminded my wife growing up back home near the beach on weekends and gathering with family and friends having fresh caught seafood bbq. The churasco mix was abundant for one person and perfect if you're bulking up on protein. The white sangria was very refreshing and highly recommended! We will certainly come back with friends here!

The bbq mix app. That yellow crusty seasoning was to die for
Sophia P.

This could be my new go-to for midweek cocktails and meat, my two favorite food groups. An added bonus is that it's a short walk from where I live/work. Noice. A good bar with a nice cocktail menu (flavored Caipirinhas, and margs) and simple Brazilian barbecue menu along with Italian staples (we did the BBQ mix appetizer which included sausage, chicken and the leanest but tenderest beef). Live music on a Saturday night is actually lovely. Loud and fun but not in a way the intrudes on the dining experience.

Followed that up with their crisp house focaccia with herb butter and the olive mix - both also discounted on happy hour. The server was absolutely wonderful and helped me choose a lovely wine to follow. She made my cocktail with care. The record selection was eclectic (Jamiroquai was in rotation) and a live DJ was just starting a groove as I had to leave. I would have loved to spend more time there.

Always very interesting and cool wines on the list! The staff? Probably the friendliest people you ever did meet. If you end up there even twice in the same month, they'll likely recognise you and give you a hearty, friendly hello. I've come here multiple times, and generally tend to buy at least one bottle. I've especially loved coming when there's folks who are willing to foot the bill for the night out, so that I can enjoy the really good stuff they have on offer. In those cases, we order multiple bottles, and keep the cocktails coming. They automatically add 20% gratuity to your bill, so there's no chance you're going to fumble the tip at the end of the night. Assume that any price on the menu is 30% higher, on account of sales tax being over 6%, and automatic gratuity being 20% added to your bill. Early on when this place opened, the vibe was chill, and you could bring people and have a conversation and a really nice time tasting the various wines on offer. Lovely. Get a cocktail, and the bartenders will take care of it, and make it perfectly. So why the 1 star? As time went on, they decided to hire a DJ to come in and spin music. Cool no worries. Then the DJs decided it's REALLY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO HEAR THE MUSIC YOU GUYS. SO LET'S BLAST IT AT EAR BLEEDING LEVELS. AND NO, THE STAFF WILL NOT REQUEST TO TURN IT DOWN. NOPE. WE GOTTA BLAST IT LIKE WE'RE IN A NIGHT CLUB. I thought maybe I had an off night, and it was one dude who had an agenda, so I went back a couple more times. Everything is gucci until the DJ shows up. Then all of a sudden you're all "WOW THE NOTES OF PLUM AND MINERALITY IN THIS WINE IS DELIGHTFUL!" "WHAT?" "I SAID THE NOTES OF PLUM AND MINERALITY IS DELIGHTFUL." "WHAT?" "WHAT?" If you're going to charge me in the neighbourhood of like $18 for a glass of wine or a cocktail, don't blast music like it's a freaking strip club and drown out any ability to have a conversation with the people I brought here thinking it's going to be a classy experience. If I wanted to go some place to shake my backside and dance to loud obnoxious music, I'd go to the other million and a half annoying loud places that exist already. Why they had to take such a delightful space, which had such a calm and peaceful vibe, and turn it into a trashy night club is beyond me, but I have zero desire to ever set foot in here again. The vibe sucks, and I'm not willing to spend that kind of money to be unable to hear the people I came with. I don't care about the DJ's agenda. The music should be a nice backdrop to the space, so that it enhances the mood, not stomps all over it like a herd of spooked cattle.

The food was very good. I had the pita & hummus side and the Caesar salad. I like how they grind up the croutons into flakes; that's the only way I truly enjoy croutons. My friend had a fish burger and enjoyed it. I like the vibe of the place; lots of unique and sometimes odd photos framed on the walls. Plenty of soccer pics, of course, since they're next to a soccer stadium. We had a difficult start to our visit. I don't know if there was some confusion about our table or what, but as the extended, continuous wait for service dragged on, we considered leaving. Then the hostess, Rachel, noticed we still hadn't been served and came over and got our order. She then stopped by every five or ten minutes to see if we needed anything else, and took our food order too. I truly appreciate Rachel's assistance; she's a perfect employee and really turned around a potentially lame dining experience. Twenty minutes in, I'd have said I'm never coming back here, but the way she turned it around, I would visit Keeper's again.

Terrible attitude. Food is always inconsistent, so many changes, down to the bread the burger is on. No host staff, which I understand because business only picks during game days, but Ive been here plenty of times to find no one watching the door or caring about any impression. No servers around, the bartender in and out etc. Each time I've come, it only disappointed me more and more, no exaggeration. Nick, I believe is the only manager, and it looks to me like doesn't care about the place, the guests, or anything happening around him. I now go to Joia, a friendly and cute Portuguese spot up the block, where I find less BS and better service.
