I want to call Pulaski Barbecue a hidden gem, but it's not hidden. I have spent a lot of time waiting in their small space, smelling the amazing food, cash in hand, getting impatient for my turn. The people who run this joint are meat magicians. They take simple food, put it over hot charcoal and turn in into something amazing. My family always gets chicken and ribs. The chickens are smallish, but they absorb whatever the sauce is that gets smeared on while they rotate in their little cage over the heat. The ribs are tender but chewy. These aren't overcooked, fall off the bone ribs. These are caveman worthy, gnaw on the bone ribs, full of flavor. Sometimes we get shrimp and garlic. Sometimes we get picadillo or febras. All of it is good. Oh, and get the garden salad. It's incredibly simple and perfect in its simplicity-- iceburg lettuce, sliced tomatoes, thin sliced onions and black olives, lightly dressed with oil and vinegar. I dream about it. Yes, a garden salad. I drive for 3 hours from Pennsylvania to get this food. The entrees can be accompanied by french fries and yellow rice. The potatoes are handcut and soaked in water before being fried. I love them fresh. They smell and taste amazing. But Pulaski gives you so much, there are always leftovers and I love to reheat these by flash frying them so they get really crispy. The yellow rice is perfect. I've seen their pots on the stove where the rice has expanded over the sides and lifts the lid off. Each grain is perfectly cooked and individual. It's not sticky, or crunchy, or mushy. It is absolutely perfect. (And also reheats really well). My favorite special little touch is that they throw a handful of giardinera (pickled vegetables) and black olives in the tray before they seal it and hand it over to you. It's my favorite part and my sister and I fight over it. Be aware they only take cash but there is an ATM inside. If you try to call and order ahead, you may have difficulty. Their English isn't the best. But their food is soooooooo worth it.

I love this place! Fresh cut fries all the time!!!! Growing up in Newark, (ironbound-Newark ) this was my place to eat BBQ chicken - Portuguese style- and still is! I haven't been here in maybe 3 years and the freshness of fries and rice are still up to par! Chicken and pork Ribs - luscious and always leaving you wanting more. Yellow rice and fries - tastiest rice (cooked to perfection) ever and fries are perfectly crisped. Salad - I have no idea why this is my weakness. It is a very simple salad. Consisting of : ice berg lettuce, white onion, tomatoes, black olives and shredded carrots with an amazing oil and vinegar dressing! ( possible fresh lemon squeeze too ) that's it????!! - YES! I am not the only one who loves this damn simple salad! EVERYYYY- OnE loves it too! Rumor is - more than one olive oil and vinegar are used in the dressing- letting it sit overnight. Anyways, just try it! Trust me you will leave satisfied! Happy Eating!

First of all, finding a BBQ spot in Newark is like shooting fish in a barrel, especially in the Ironbound area. 2 of my boys and I came here with cavemen appetites, as one of them raved about the portions they serve. Upon arrival immediately you can tell its one of those family friendly joints where you can bring lets say a group of 8-12 and be seated almost immediately. We ordered just one combo platter for all of us and we wanted to DIG IN, when we finally got our platter, my friend was right! The food tasted sooo good, Yellow Rice with fries and of course Rotisserie Chicken and Ribs. Our stomachs weren't ready for this as the 3 of us couldn't finish it all. It was a shame that none of us took it in a doggy bag because we had to be somewhere after-wards, but we were most definitely satisfied and I believe the bill was under $20 including tip! WHAT?!?! That is very hard to find these days and PULASKI BARBEQUE may not be the best BBQ place in Ironbound since there is too many to decide from, but it is absolutely worth it... Get your binge eating on!

Food was good, service was so-so. Not horrible but could have been better. I suppose the language barrier was a factor.

You can order delivery I believe through Uber Eats, Doordash or Grubhub but those prices definitely do change and go up so we ordered over the phone and picked up for best value. The service was very nice, it's a family run business and they got out entire order correct which included several platters and the three of their delicious homemade lemonade, strawberry limeade and the blue raspberry lemonade. The establishment is very cute and cozy on the inside, very clean as well. The collard greens tasted like they were soaked in vinegar, making them overly bitter. The mac and cheese also need a lot of work. It didn't taste homemade or even like a good store-bought version. I would recommend trying a different cheese blend or recipe because it lacked the rich, creamy flavor I was expecting. I apologize if my comments offend anyone, but when you're spending your hard-earned money, you want your meal to be worth it. I hope this feedback is taken as constructive because the jerk chicken shows that the kitchen is capable of making delicious food. Thank you, Dani

Although it was a bit crowded at the bar, service wasn't too bad. However, one of the book club members specifically asked for a drink without alcohol and ended up receiving a frozen lemonade with alcohol. So she left upset. As far as food: super mid. I was actually surprised when I cut into my fried chicken sandwich and it was a bit pink. The chef himself assured me the food was cooked but it just had that color because of the brine. Idk sounds like they should change the brine then. Loaded waffle fries were also kind of gross because there was so much oil. Seems like it's a place locals enjoy, I'm glad I'm not a local.

I ordered the Pineapple Express cocktail, super tasty and strong! For food, I went with the half order of beef brisket, fried chicken, mac and cheese, and cornbread. The fried chicken was stellar, juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Everything was solid, but that chicken really stood out. It's located in Lackawanna Plaza, which has a trendy, up-and-coming feel with several other eateries to explore. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu and maybe check out the rest of the plaza while I'm at it!

We came for the Oxtail burger but on this day they were only making beef burgers, lamb burgers, and catfish sandwiches. Shortly after, another couple came in and were told about 20 minutes. We were the only two parties waiting. When a table opened, the waitress began seating us, and the chef stopped her and asked the other (AA) couple if they were there first. He then told the gentleman, "I see you with family, and I'm not trying to start any problems." This was said while we were literally being seated, and nothing was said to us. It put us in an awkward and embarrassing position, as we would never intentionally skip ahead of anyone. As a Hispanic couple, the interaction also left us wondering if we were being treated differently, even if that wasn't the intention. Then the drink order added to the frustration. I ordered a hibiscus lemonade and my boyfriend ordered a regular lemonade. The waitress repeated it back incorrectly as strawberry, and I corrected her. About 10 minutes later she brought a strawberry lemonade anyway. When I said that wasn't what I ordered, the chef took the drink and handed it to the other couple who had just ordered a strawberry lemonade , saying it was freshly made and "they didn't want it." That was uncomfortable because I never ordered strawberry to begin with. Overall, the interaction felt dismissive and awkward. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled -- especially the comments made -- left us feeling unwelcome. I hope this feedback helps improve communication and customer experience moving forward.

We arrived on a Saturday the place was absolutely packed but we were seated within about 5 minutes. We were seated right near the smokers and it was so cool to watch them prepare each dish. The presentation here is phenomenal as is the quality of all the meat here. A fresh salad with oil was brought complimentary to the table and it was delicious. We ordered the Buffalo smoked chicken wings and Baba-Ghanoj for appetizers. The chicken wings were so tender that as you picked them up the meat literally fell off the bone! The sauce was subtle but had a nice Buffalo kick at the end. The baba-ghanoj was served cold and was perfect with a little sprinkle of salt. The fresh pitas paired perfectly with it. I'm glad I did my research on this spot as everyone recommended the fresh mint lemonade. Wow amazing and refreshing I love that it came out as a slushy like consistency. I could easily drink them all day and they're probably amazing to eat outside in the warmer months and enjoy. We each ordered the meat platters in 1lb portions which are served with fresh smoked rice that is so good and filling. I wanted the beef shank but sadly they were out and ordered the smoked beef short rib. They served everything on a platter for us which the presentation I must say is outstanding . My boyfriend ordered the smoked brisket and it was so tender and flavorful he kept saying "it's terrible you won't like it because he didn't want to share it at all LOL". We had no room for dessert but I cannot wait to return for our next dinner date night! I would definitely give it 4/5 stars. Nothing was terrible the only complaints I had is once we were seated and our order was taken our server asked if we want appetizers first which we said yes and everything came out at once. Which is fine not terrible just our table was packed and hard to eat. Additionally once our food came out it was hard to get anyone's attention for more drinks but it was no too much of an issue that it ruined the night as they were definitely way too busy and seemed to be short staffed. I definitely want to return and check out the rest of their menu. I highly recommend making the trip to Kanoon!
