Blackberry Cobbler
Angelique F.

Stopped in for a quick bite. Servers were friendly, and informative! I appreciate that the music is not extremely loud! Like all the signs the memorabilia, the message on the whiteboard left by the owner I believe his name is Stephan Sodolaks! Ordered the Blackberry Cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The crust that was used, tasted a bit under done, besides that it was good.

Came here for the first time with my family in a long time. We ordered the 32 ounce black Angus sirloin, seafood platter, beefmaster fries, fried pickles, avocado chicken breast, and the grilled pork chops. I was pretty delicious and juicy, but nothing spectacular about it. The portions are large for a very affordable price so that's a huge plus. Beefmaster fries wasn't that great, but the fried pickles were nice and crispy and very flavorful. The steak was pretty flavorful, but it was slightly overcooked so make sure you go 1 under on what you actually want. I wanted a perfect medium so I should've went medium rare, but instead I got medium well with some pieces well done. The avocado chicken breast had very little avocado, but as dry as the chicken breast looked, it was actually pretty juicy. Overall, for cheap eats and for some pretty good food, come support this business and bring a patch if you are first responder as it appears they collect them on their wall. I should've brought my patch from Hawaii for them. The staff were all friendly and fast. Lots of parking outside and lots of tables to dine on. It can get a little congested in the front when people are waiting to get checked in and it's also the same area where people are paying their tab.

One of my home cooking go-to spots in Bryan. On this trip, I tried the chicken strips with fried okra and mashed potatoes. The chicken strips are fresh cut chicken breast. Everything is freshly prepared, hot and delicious. Make sure you get a roll. Overall, great food, large portions, nice vibe with friendly staff.

I was looking for a place to eat in Bryan that has lots of different protein options. The menu is huge. For a weekday this place was hopping. Greeted as I walked in and the seated. The service was nice and friendly. Server answered all our questions and checked on us. The server took our drink order and gave us time to look over the menu. The food, the rolls were nice and fluffy with a hint of sweetness... served with whipped butter. I ordered the Black Angus Fireman's Ribeye (it's not thick cut, but is tender and flavorful. I ordered mine medium rare it was a little over cooked, ) the fried okra was perfectly cooked and not greasy. The greens needed more flavor. This is definitely family place. I also saw several couples dining. The decor is simple and lends to the overall concept of the restaurant. Plenty of parking.

If your looking for a spot to meet up with friends or family and eat (a lot), Sodolak's is it. I have been here many times and enjoy the Texas classics like chicken fried steak and Okra. On my last trip here for dinner, I found that the long-neck Beer had returned. Yahoo! I enjoy a bottle of beer with my steak dinner and am so happy that we have this option back. Thank you Sodolaks! You'll see me again!

Today I had the chance to stop In for a good meal at Sodolaks again! I had to wait about 10 minutes, but that was no problem! The locals know where to find a good meal. The waitress was right there to take my drink order and suggest some specials. I went with the chicken fried steak, green beans, fries and a great garden salad! The meal was just what I wanted! All very good, delivered very quickly. I love that the waitress weR the Sodolaks shirts, which all have different Bible verses on them!!! I would eat here again just for that alone! When in Bryan/College Station area, give Sodolaks a try. Go get Full

Interesting place. Good home cooking. I had the hamburger steak with mushroom and onions. Hubs had the chicken fried steak. Sides were okay but not really note worthy. The wait staff was efficient, nice, and busy. The restaurant inside has a very masculine feel...firefighter patches and bible verses on all workers shirts.

I was SO EXCITED to find out that there is a Cookshack in College Station!…read more We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday before heading home. We were BLOWN AWAY by the number of college students, dressed in their Sunday's best, openly praying over their food before enjoying some awesome chicken. It was SO NICE TO SEE! We ordered a family meal (20 pieces), 2 sides of fries and a chicken sandwich meal. We paid around $40. Great value! The food came out quick and arrived hot and fresh. I had a slight "issue" where I thought my chicken wasn't fully cooked and the manager reassured me that it was just breading but happily remade my sandwich to give me peace of mind. I REALLY appreciated that. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, literally leaving "not a fry left behind." The size of my chicken on the sandwich was HUGE- had to be hanging off the roll by 2" on each side! Staff were phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Love the laid back decor. Plenty of seating inside and some tables outdoors as well. Definitely recommend!

The Cookshack has a different vibe and feels more like a lunch or dinner spot, while Mess is the perfect breakfast place. Alright, who am I reviewing again? Right. The Cookshack has some great options, and my wife and I went for the Chicken & Waffles. I chose the hottest seasoning they had--pretty sure it was ghost pepper--and yeah, it was spicy but didn't make me miserable. There was a lot of food, and it definitely filled us up. My wife got mac n cheese with hers and really enjoyed every bite. The cashier was nice and attentive. The atmosphere is great for a lunch or dinner date. Plus, they have large booths, which we really appreciate.

The best indicator of this is the multitude of local workers coming by for lunch. The place is eclectic with a hodgepodge of many old curios for sale. The dining room is decorated to look like, you guessed it, a barn with signs and antique decor. We were taken right in at the front counter where you place your food order. They give you a pager to let you know when it's chow time. Bring the pager to the kitchen window where your hot food will be waiting for you. I ordered the catfish and gulf shrimp. I t came with hush puppies and coleslaw. I added the fried okra as my side. My wife had the gulf shrimp as well and couldn't stop raving about it. Everything was delicious. EXCELLENT! I did not expect to find something like this in a small small town. We were on our way…read moreto college station and wanted to get something to eat as we got closer to our destination. We checked Yelp for something other than Mexican food and this place had really great reviews. As soon as we walked it we knew it was going to be good. The menu isn't too large, which to me meant that they have spent a lot of time perfecting the things that are on the menu. The service was really good and as soon as we sat down, we ordered a couple of sodas and the Boudin balls. We took a couple minutes to look at the menu and everything looked really good, but the spicy chicken sandwich was really calling out to both of us. So we ordered those one with potato salad and one with rice. The Boudin balls were delicious. They were pretty large in size and the sauce that it came with had a little bit of a kick to it. My favorite thing was that it was mostly meat on the inside and the flavor was incredible. Same with the chicken sandwich. It also had a kick and by the time I was done my mouth was pretty warm. I thought the potato salad was a great way to help cool it off, and it was just as good as the sandwich. I loved the batter on the chicken, and I thought the bun was toasted perfectly. This would be a place I would go to regularly if I lived in the area. Parking was pretty tight and most of the spots were taken up so we did park in a spot we weren't supposed to, but luckily we didn't get towed!

When I tell you the spirit of Louisiana and NOLA was in the place! So you will miss the place if you aren't paying attention. The sign is small and the building looks like it used to be a church fellowship hall. It's not fancy and it's small, however, don't discount it. Don't judge a book by its cover and great things come in small packages. It's a family owned and run business. By the looks of it, it can probably seat 40 people and I'm pushing it with the number. However from the time you walk in until the time you leave, you feel like you're at your great aunt's house. It was five of us and when you walk in, it's seat yourself and first come, first serve. The food came out piping hot and cooked fresh. My husband and brother-in-law got the catfish platter with red beans and rice (no pork) and Mac-n-cheese. My sister and I got the Nawlins boil that had a crab cluster, shrimp, corn, potato, boiled egg and a sausage link. My nephew got a shrimp po-boy with fries. The food was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The fish and fries were crispy. The Mac-n-cheese isn't creamy but it isn't dry. Perfect amount of cheese and flavor. The red beans and rice had the perfect balance of flavor. The boil...my goodness the boil. They have the amount of the boil down to a science to make it a full meal. At first glance, I didn't think it would be seasoned well because the season looked like a dry rub. It wasn't saucy or juicy - until I took my first bite. I almost walked to the kitchen to kiss the cook. They are not skimpy on any of the food either. Even the po-boy had an overload of shrimp. When we were there, it was a packed house. There was also a large party who was rather disgruntled - not because of the service or food but because they were impatient. Remember this is a family owned business with 2 servers and maybe 3 cooks that cook to order. So if you're looking for quick food, this isn't the place. If you have time to sit, enjoy some great food with great company in a casual home style restaurant...this is your place.
