I have been wanting to try Feed Barn for some time. On my last trip to Bryan, I finally had my chance. It is as the name implies, a great place to get honest Texas fixins! The best indicator of this is the multitude of local workers coming by for lunch. The place is eclectic with a hodgepodge of many old curios for sale. The dining room is decorated to look like, you guessed it, a barn with signs and antique decor. We were taken right in at the front counter where you place your food order. They give you a pager to let you know when it's chow time. Bring the pager to the kitchen window where your hot food will be waiting for you. I ordered the catfish and gulf shrimp. I t came with hush puppies and coleslaw. I added the fried okra as my side. My wife had the gulf shrimp as well and couldn't stop raving about it. Everything was delicious. Interesting experience. Stopped by here based upon Yelp reviews while getting our daughter moved in to A&M. Lunchtime in a Saturday and the place was empty. Not much staff in the place and they weren't overly friendly. The place felt like a museum, stuck in the past. We ordered and took a seat. While we were waiting, a few more tables came in, making it feel a little less creepy. The food didn't take long. Our buzzer buzzed and I went to the window to grab our orders. My expectations were not high. I was expecting no seasoning and not a lot of flavor - but the food was decent. Not great but definitely not bad. The fried shrimp were good, and my daughter loved her chicken fried chicken. And the chicken strips were really good. The prices were a little high for what you get, but that's the restaurant business these days. I just wish the place felt more alive. Not much personality with the staff so it doesn't feel very welcoming. But if someone suggested going back the next time we visit, I wouldn't argue. Great food! Had the chopped sirloin today; it's one of my favorites there. It comes with brown gravy, and grilled onions and mushrooms. So flavorful! The side of fried okra is some of the best I've had anywhere. I just wish the entrees came with two sides, instead of one. read more

The Feed Barn is a classic. The vibe inside is like you have stepped back in time. Places like this just don't exist much anymore. All the old decor on the walls and the locals. I love it. Used to come here a lot when the prices were lower and food was better. Ordered the 11 Oz ribeye ($25) with baked potato and it iooked good on the platter but the amount of fat left was unacceptable for the price and it was pretty tasteless. This is a great little southern style restaurant hidden about 14 minutes away from college. I got the county fried steak, and it was pretty good, my only complaint is that it is no where near our texas size portions expected from a place like this. I would stick to the county steaks/sirloin or chicken fried chicken, and stay away from the burgers, those looked pretty basic. I would say the food was slightly better than a place like Texas Roadhouse, and you definitely get seats easier. The service was alright too, it's more of a service yourself style. I can't say I will definitely be back, as it's a bit overpriced for the portions and sides, but I think you should definitely try out the steaks. read more

I was in the area for work so I needed to pick up a quick lunch. This place was nearby so I stopped by for some fried chicken strips. Once inside, the ambiance takes you back to any decade of the 1900s. They have a lot of Texan memorabilia accumulated from other the years. They had a shop inside too. For lunch, this place got really busy. There was a long line at the counter with a worker who worked very hard to take orders, work the register and also hand out the orders once the kitchen was ready to serve them. She worked very hard and it was clear that she wanted to provide food service to everyone who walked in the door. We took the food to go so I didn't get to eat it until I was in the car. I didn't really find the chicken very flavorful so it was slightly disappointed. I couldn't tell if the food was fresh or if it had been frozen. The fries were good but it wasn't enough to call the whole meal good. I probably would go to another place for lunch if I'm in the area again. read more
