Ordered: Appetizer: Mammaws Old School Cheese Sticks: light flaky crust with delicious melt mozzarella cheese Entree: Chicken Fried Steak: a bit bland, but decent, but nothing special about it. The meat was pretty huge though Spicy Jalapeño Burger: very juicy and delicious. Tons of jalapeños. Philly Steak: surprisingly delicious. Very tender and cheesy with a strong taste. Carbonara Pasta w/ Grilled Chicken: sauce could be a little thicker, but the flavor was there. Very delicious Overall: decently priced for a decent sized portion. Fries seemed to be fried in possibly old oil based on the color and taste. It was also salty af, and I love salt. They also have desserts, but we were stuffed. Staff was friendly, but we barely saw him after taking our order and dropping it off. We waited a while for him to stop by for our check. Waitress was such a mood kill. Seemed like such a inconvenience to her that I chose to eat here. Service is terrible, waited so long to just order and even then the waitress had the audacity to seem bored out by me ordering. When it was time to refill my drink no one was to be seen, had to fill my drink myself. Part of me didn't even want to pay, i'm not one to leave ratings or anything but | couldn't hold my tongue about this place. Would not recommend at all. My family and I have been to Billy's on three other occasions and ordered the burgers. Each time it was great service and the food was good. Today however we did not get the same service or food quality. The entire time we were there it was just us and another table of four. The service was not good at all. We waited at least 30+ minutes to get our food and when the food finally did arrive it was not good at all. My wife ordered the club with no tomatoes, the club that came was loaded with tomatoes. My mom's chicken wrap was ok on the inside but you couldn't eat the tortilla because it was like rubber. I ordered the loaded nachos and what came out was actually hilarious. The plate was about 8 inches around, had about 10-12 chips on it with a little bit of cheese and ground beef. It had a heaping bowl of hot sauce in the middle. No sour cream, tomatoes, etc. The chips were soggy and it did not taste good at all. Not at all what you would expect when ordering nachos. We witnessed the wait staff at the bar eating, drinking, handling money all while never washing their hands when waiting on customers. The female bartender would sit at a table eating and drinking and then pop up when someone from the bar needed something and then back to the table. We even saw someone order ice cream and she just got up from eating and when straight to grab the scoop and dip out ice cream. It was disgusting to watch. I barely made it home before my meal made me rush to the bathroom. It would not surprise me if food poisoning doesn't happen. The ambiance is topped with some homey country music and sitting at one of the window tables gives you a relaxing place to see the world go by. Service was also pretty awesome. Stopped in after looking at the menu and it looked enticing. The service was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The hostess was nice and sat us immediately but we waited over 30 minutes for three waters, and I'm glad we ordered our food at the same time. We tried it for the 1st time today for Mother's Day Lunch. The yelp reviews were great and there were lots of open tables, so we were excited. The waitress was unbelievably slow to address us for our drink orders, the food service was Super SLOW for us and for all others in the dining area. People were literally complaining to the Manager & we saw one table of 5 being served 1 and 2 plates at a time...with 10 - 15 minutes in between. Everyone at the table had finished eating, by the time the last guy received his food. Again, the dining room was not full, so they weren't jammed or anything. The food was OK, but a poor value for the price IMO. This will be our 1st & last visit to this eatery. read more

Service was great! Love the atmosphere. As you can tell in our photo, the spicy pickle chips were our favorite. Definitely give those B+ with the sauce! I got the chicken bacon ranch wrap which was a basic wrap with basic issues. Too much tortilla, only 5 pieces of chicken chunks and a whole lot of lettuce. I would give this a D-. Although it had decent taste, it was just very inconsistent within the wrap. The mushroom burger was delicious! Great flavor, great consistency. Definitely giving it an A. We both chose the sweet potato fries for our sides. Depending on the individuals preference in texture is going to depict if you love them or like them. The flavor is great, lightly salted while capturing that rich sweetness with a creamy inside. I thought they were amazing, but my spouse loves her fries crispy and she wasn't a fan of the texture. I believe when including both of our opinions we'll give the sweet potato fries a B. Overall, Billy's Grille & Bar is receiving a B+. Everything was great, only take away would to avoid the wraps unless you love carbs and maybe ask them to add a little more of a certain included ingredient. I liked everything! We are always looking for something new to try. While I no longer live in B/CS, I love coming back to things that I enjoy and miss. And especially when we find a place that we had not dined at before. We found Billy's on Yelp and thought it would be a fun evening out, so there we were. Billy's was quite the surprise. First, I noticed the caricature on the front of the menu. I thought, gee, he looks familiar. After reading the story about Bill Schulman on the back, my hunch was correct. As a child and young man, I had been to the Schulman family theaters in Bryan many times. I have vivid memories of the Palace and Drive-in. This will date me, but we used to have to call the theater to hear a recorded message of shows and showtimes. I'll never forget Mr. Schulman's voice announcing the show as "Hotel Hell!!!" I am appreciative of the many years that this family has dedicated themselves to our community! That said, in addition to the pleasant ownership surprise, I really liked the restaurant. There were two young lady's that served us. Both were very pleasant and attentive. I did ask what the store used to be, but they were unsure and thought it was an ice cream bar. After speaking with my dad, he said it was Jarrott's Pharmacy. It made sense then. Jarrot's was a Pharmacy and soda fountain. Wow, it had been years! Okay, on to the menu. They had a diverse menu with a little something for everyone. Also, there was much in the way of Texas fare which I really enjoy. I ordered the Chicken-Fried Steak and a tall class of beer. My wife had Billy's Cobb salad with fried chicken strips. I thought my Chicken-Fried Steak was as good as any that I've had in the area. The cold beer didn't hurt either! My wife said that she loved the Cobb salad. We had eaten pretty heavy on our trip, so that salad was just what the doctor ordered! We had friends with us who really enjoyed their meal as well. I went with my neighbor for breakfast because he had been raving about this place and goes often. I must say that, for the price, the portions are very good. We were sat very quickly but the service was lacking from thereon out. My friend had to shout to get an iced tea refill and I never got the opportunity to ask for hot sauce for my migas. The migas as a whole was underwhelming yet filling. The salsa tasted like it was from a jar and the tortillas were store bought and flavorless. I would not order that again. I am so sad to update my review from almost 2 years ago, but things were not good on my most recent visit. Service was terrible, slow and barely attentive. Restaurant was not busy and there plenty of open tables and staff it seemed. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were terrible. Burgers were ok but fries were juat warm. After such a long wait they should have been fresh out of the fryer. We were embarrassed because we had brought new friends from out of town to "eat local." We've popped in at Billy's several times since my original review. Never had this kind of problem. Sorry to see such a decline. read more

Made the decision to go there based on Yelp reviews. Went there with three other guys during First Friday, so they were very busy. Despite this, our food came out in around 10 minutes and our waitress, Chloe, was very attentive. She even accommodated one of our friends who showed up after our food had came out. As far as the food goes, three of us (including myself) all got the bacon burger, and loved it. The sourdough buns were definitely the right choice here. French fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Another one of my friends got the chicken fried steak, and also loved it. On top of all that, it was amazing price for the amount of food we got (~$10 each!). The only bad part I can think of is the wait for the bathroom because it was crowded, but First Friday only happens once a month, so there's a pretty low chance you'd run into that problem. Definitely a very entertaining ambiance though, with TVs on the walls and a bar that had a wheel to spin for a random shot we will definitely go back. Also, one of their "Billy's favorites" drinks was Dos Equis, and that is our favorite beer. I'm definitely going to have to give this one 9 Cane's-in-Bryans out of 10. read more

Honey let me tell you something. This breakfast is so good it made my husband cuss and he's a holy roller! Yesterday evening we went to Billy's for dinner and to watch the game Texans v Baltimore. They let sit by the window and they had two TV on the game. We order beers and chicken Fried Steak. Ok, been seeing lots of good stuff about this place, and word of mouth, so finally was able to stop for dinner with my son. So, location, awesome for evening with family or friends after downtown 8-5ers go home, but if your working or have business downtown during the weekday, not bad to find a parking spot and in Bryan you can walk to it nearly from anywhere. Love the atmospher and staff, super friendly and helpful with the menu, bar looked amazing although didn't indulge in any "adult beverages today!" So my son loves beer pretzels and cheese so gave theirs a try before our meal... wholly cheese sauce! Amazing, huge, a "one pounder" and the sauce was good too! So my chicken fried steak, fries and ma-n-cheese was good, the steak was perfectly cooked, fries were good, but just fries nothing unique and the same for the Mac-n-cheese, however so would order again, just nothing extra unique. But my son's waffle was perfectly cook and flavorful and he loved the hand breaded chicken strips! I came to eat breakfast. Obviously I was too late. Decided on getting the house salad with honey mustard dressing. The salad was mostly lettuce with a few tiny bits of tomato and a couple of red onion rings. Also a little bit of shredded cheese. All I could taste was lettuce and dressing and onion. Next to the chipotle chicken quesadilla. I did not taste any Chipotle the chicken was a bit dry and bland not much cheese. On a positive note the server was very polite and kind. Not sure I'll be back very average. Only ate one piece of the chicken quesadilla and took the rest home to fix it up myself. read more

Came in on Sunday of Labor Day weekend for brunch. Waitstaff was good... but discovered they were out of many items.. chicken, potatoes and a few other items. Wasn't super busy and kitchen was slow. I ordered an omelet with side of potatoes and they offered me a salad as my alternative to my potatoes. Btw... we ordered and waited 20 minutes before we were told that they ran out of potatoes. We were in Bryan/College Station visiting our son at Texas A&M. We had lunch here based on a recommendation. It was not the best experience. We waited nearly an hour for a chicken Caesar salads and Cobb salad. The salads were lacking in taste and the Caesar salad did not have enough chicken. Our son ordered chicken fried chicken and he said it tasted rubbery. The place was 50% full so not sure why it took so long just to make 2 salads and a chicken fried chicken. This place has a good atmosphere for a bar meal but the food was not very tasty at all. We started with fried mozzarella which was literally a cheese stick with flour breaded on the outside fried. It had zero flavor unless you dipped it into a very small cup of marinara sauce. I got a Caesar wrap no flavor alot of lettuce. The only good thing was my husband's burger was absolutely delicious he said. The beer choices were sparse and my cucumber spicy margarita had zero tequila in it? They put so much jalapeño in it I guess to disguise the fact that they didn't add alcohol to it. The only reason I would recommend this place is if you really enjoy a good burger. read more
