We hit up Proudest Monkey again in downtown Bryan and this time it was a win all around. The place has been slinging burgers, tacos and cocktails to the Brazos Valley since forever in restaurant years and the locals seem to love it for good reason. My wife ordered a burger and devoured it without a single word. This is how I know she truly enjoyed it. I went for two tacos (they run about $6 bucks each) including the Pulled Hammy and the Mama Migas. Both were packed with flavor and spicy enough to keep me on my toes. Service was on point. Our waitress hustled even though it was a chill lunch crowd. The bar itself has this cozy (not wide) historic downtown vibe with brick and wood and all the kind of stuff you see in those hip Austin places people brag about. Love this place! The fries & sauce are amazing! I'm not much to their drinks, but the food is great and it's a cool little place!

Was really hoping for mind blowing but what I got was mediocre. I had the chirzo burger. It was over cooked and very dry. Maybe because I am a old fat guy but I like my burgers with some juice. We are new to downtown Bryan. Saw the great reviews on Yelp so thought we'd stop in. I got the fish and shrimp tacos. They load them up. I was plenty full. They were very good. My wife got the Cuban taco and she really liked it. She barely finished there was so much. Our waitress was awesome. She suggest some drinks that were fantastic. She took great care of us. It's a cool little place with booths and small tables. I could see myself hanging out here. Lots of Texas craft beers on a wide variety of drinks. I highly recommend it. read more

This place is so cute and delicious. It was my first time here and I have no complaints at all. The ambiance was great. It wasn't too busy on a weekday and you seat yourself. The service was kind and efficient. Each table has its own TV playing sports, which I loved. The noise level was low and there's a mix of bar, booth, and table seating. The burger was really good. I liked that you can customize it, and they also have pre-made options. The bun had a slight sweetness that I enjoyed. The fries were hot, crispy, and perfectly salted. They came in a big bowl and the dipping sauce was super addicting. The drink menu is fun with lots of creative options including ice cream cocktails. In town for a short time and the place we were going to go for lunch was closed so my brother suggested this place in downtown Bryan. It's small, in a shotgun building and checking out their website, which hasn't been updated, maybe in a while because prices on the menus are a bit higher. All they serve is burgers and tacos and fries. But it is a bar too, and they have LOTS of beers and some wines as well. We got there about 1 in the afternoon. I ordered the Basic burger, that's lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and mustard. I added mayo as well . For 6 dollars more you can add fries and a drink, which I did. The burger was good, the meat was juicy. The drink I got was Sweet tea and it was perfectly Texas Sweet, but looked and tasted a little weak. The fries were simple Mickey D's style stick fries nothing special.. But you can get them in 4 different styles from "boring with salt only" to "fire". They also have sweet potato fries. They also offer 2 different salads. And tacos which I can only assume are pretty large since they are like $6 each based on how the menu reads?? Our waiter was friendly enough, checked on us a time or two and offered refills once. So adequate customer service. So for me it was $10.95 just for the burger which it doesn't say what size they are, it's a smaller bun, the meat patty is kinda thick, I estimate it to be 1/4 pound or a little more. But not quite a 3rd pound. One single slice of tomato. And 3 pickle slices. One large leaf of green leaf lettuce and several slivers of red onions. And the stick fries served in a small stainless bowl and drink for another $6. So $16.95 before tax. It was pretty good but not something I'd rave about or insist on going back to get again if in town, for $17. Sorry no pix today. Visiting with friends while eating and didn't take any! read more

Loved how cozy the environment was at Proudest Monkey! The service staff were very friendly and quick to get our orders despite us asking them to wait for our complete party to arrive. I ordered the el Jefe and it was really good for a rainy day. I loved how the runny egg fused with the flavors of the meat! My friend ordered the porta blue with a patty substitute and it looked amazing, will order next time! Price is also very decent for the burger that you get. read more

We came in with a party of nine, and there was a booth open and some seating available outside. However, the staff would not help us find a spot or even allow us to wait for one to open up. So we called The Owl, and they told us to come on over! The employees at The Owl were very helpful in finding us a spot, even though they were slammed and understaffed. read more

We dined here on a Monday evening after having driven for 15 hours. We were allowed to pick our seats & our server came up to bring menus & go over options with us. We skipped appetizers but ordered our meals: I got the Willie Norris, which is a ground chuck burger with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle & "monkey sauce." I also ordered plain fries. My wife ordered the pulled hammy bowl with yuppie fries, which have olive oil, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, garlic & monkey sauce. My burger was awesome, no gristle or anything, seasoned well, cooked perfectly. The fries were incredible, they were firm with a good bite, not soggy or anything. My wife's pulled pork bowl was fantastic & the yuppy fries were out of this world good! We were extremely pleased & satisfied with the food & the service. A Story Of Redemption TLDR: Don't come here on a First Friday, delicious any other day Full story: I came here originally with my four friends on first friday 09/06/2024, the place was packed and seating was a wait. We waited patiently. Service was kind. However our meals came in a disastrous pile. You could tell the Chefs were losing their minds and the burgers were over done and unpleasant. Fries in clumps and the incorrect. In my assumption, they were super unprepared for the service that night. And EXPO must've been a sh*t show. Today, i came back to seek their redemption. My thought was, "There is no way this place is the sister of a BBQ restaurant and is this foul." I got the exact same meal, a Firehouse burger, grill them jalepenos and sub for american chz. Got the Idaho Fries "Yuppy" style and Sweet Potato "Dirty" style. This meal kicked a**! Blew me away with how delicious and crisp and juicy everything was. My message to the GM, get your chefs heads on straight when you KNOW there is going to be a night of wild service. Make sure that your servers or whoever is EXPOing will send back a meal that looks unpleasant. If you wouldn't serve it to your mother, don't serve it. Not everyone will give a place a second try. You are serving great burgers during the regular days, keep that up on First Fridays, you'll get insane money. read more

This was the cutest little bar. I stumbled into while walking to a different bar I found on the maps. The bartender was very nice and helpful. The have HH from 2-5pm, which is nice to catch the early crowd lol I wasn't starving so I didn't try the food but word is that the burgers are amazing! Will be sure to try when I come back from work. This was a neat little place....not a lot of seating but well worth the wait....i had a burger and it was delicious. We were very pleased.

I RARELY say this but the fish tacos are awesome. I'm always getting fish tacos expecting San Diego fish tacos the BEST in the world and always disappointed, but these were GOOD and sort of spicy. Grilled not fried which I know is the healthier option but beach tacos are FRIED. But not at the beach obviously but still good. Beer selection large. Everyone was really nice and what I saw was everyone left happy. I "heard" the burgers were great but glad I got the fish tacos thinking I was immediately going to regret it. Nope nope nope. Despite all the reviews raving about the food, me and my boyfriend were not impressed by the burgers. The meat was not as tender and juicy as I was expecting, and the flavors weren't as amazing as everyone said it was. My boyfriend said that the toppings of the el jefe had to compensate a lot for the lack of flavor in the meat. Perhaps the quality of the food had to do with the extreme wait as it was First Friday in Bryan. Nobody even acknowledged us when we came in and we had to find our own table. We waited over an hour for our food only to be disappointed. We hope this was just an unfortunate experience, but I think we are too traumatized to consider coming back. read more

We (party of 3) tried Proudest Monkey this week for the first time. Staff were friendly and attentive. Top marks for them. Unfortunately the food was not remarkable. The burger was dry and needed seasoning. Steak taco was average. Sweet potato fries were hot and seasoned well. Interestingly the iced tea was very good. Grilled cheese looked good. Overall I didn't think that the food quality was worth the amount we paid. I'll probably give them another try and see if this was just an off day. read more
