We are new to downtown Bryan so we are trying out all the restaurants. Mexican food is our go to food so we were excited to try out Papa Perez. The restaurant is super nice inside and out. Our waitress was fantastic. She took good care of us without being annoying. It was noon on Sunday so it wasn't real busy. You have to get the tortilla soup. I got a cup and it was big. Packed with chicken. Probably one of the best I've ever had. My wife and I both got traditional enchiladas- cheese for her and beef for me. They were good but the beef or sauce had some flavor that kept them from being great in my taste. We will definitely be back and try more food. They have a good menu selection. read more

We had a wonderful meal at Papa Perez after an A&M game (whoop!). Our server Claudia was fantastic! We got seated quickly - chips and salsa arrived immediately. Drinks and apps order taken quickly. We had two people arrive late, but that wasn't an issue to our server, Claudia handled it. Our food was delivered quickly and hot from the kitchen. All of it tasted great. Food is very good. They have great lunch specials during the week that we enjoy, especially the chicken fajita tacos and stuffed avocado.

On the advice of a student, we stopped in for a late dinner. He said that all of his friends go there and that they really enjoy the food. I figure it would be a normal "college" bar/food experience. I wasn't wrong and neither was he! We both enjoyed the experience and if I were a few decades younger, I could definitely hang out and have more fun. As it was, I just went with one drink. The tequila sunrise was par for the course. Along with it came chips & salsa. I gotta say - I LOVED that salsa. Probably my #2 favorite in Texas. Really. At least I enjoyed it that much. For the entre I got the Aggie Enchiladas. Ok, they should call it the Aggie Combo as it was two enchiladas and a taco. I went all chicken and enjoyed the large pieces of shredded chicken. Met some out of town family for lunch. Service was great, food was delicious and prices were very reasonable. I had chicken fajita tacos with rice, pico and charro beans. The tortillas were soft and fluffy, the chicken was tender and well seasoned, the beans and rice were a great accompaniment. There was a large selection of lunch specials that included ice tea. Came here after my grandma's funeral (it was one of her favorites), sat down at 8pm, and they were very persistent in reminding us that they closed at 9pm and that they were concerned, because of our party of 12, that we would not be gone by 9pm. We were out of the building at 9:05 and the door was promptly locked behind us. Thank you to the staff for allowing us to eat there during business hours! Don't come here if you are looking for good salsa, it's terrible. Its the kind you get off the shelf at Walmart. Guacamole is not worth it either. Chips were good but thats about it. We used to LOVE the food here. Sad to say the quality has gone way down. The plate of pico, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese for my chicken fajitas had guacamole that was almost brown and so highly salted that's all I could taste. Salt. The pico de gallo was spoiled--I had to cover my face with my napkin so I could spit it out. So glad I tried it first before spreading it on my fajitas. The fajitas were ok, but the onion strips with them were burned totally black and there was a total of two small strips of bell pepper. For the price of the Fajitas for One there should have been more bell pepper and better cooking time. The corn tortillas were pale white and tasteless, and though very hot when unwrapped, they all had splits in them which made filling and eating them a challenge. The beans were tasteless, and the rice was ok. Service was good--about the only plus here. We won't be back for a long time, if ever. read more

Came in on a Saturday night at 8pm. Place was dead. Have not been here In years but always remember it being pretty busy. Well found out why it was dead. Tonight we had dinner at Papa Perez and to say it exceeded our expectations is an understatement! We had the fried avocado and burrito and we were taken back by how good everything was ! They also have green salsa and it had just the right amount of spice ! I came here with some colleagues recently while in the area for a meeting. After asking our local for a recommendation he suggested we go to Papa Perez. This is a darling establishment in downtown Bryan, a place I've never been before. We got there and the place was packed. After putting our names on the list we offered to sit in the bar to get seated sooner. The waiter was polite and prompt answering all our questions. The food was reasonably priced and even better they had lunch specials. We all opted for different types of enchiladas. The food came out promptly and was delicious. Confusingly overcrowded place marred by cold chips, subpar salsa, and chewy, improperly cooked meats. Came here about a week ago and was extremely disappointed. The margaritas we ordered tasted of lime Gatorade and lacked any real flavor (Although they were strong so I guess that's a plus?) The beef fajita meat in the tacos al carbon was extremely bland and chewy, lacking any real flavor and the presentation of the dish itself was very underwhelming. The charro beans were also watery and completely flavorless and the rice was cold. We didn't even end up finishing one of our courses (the carne asada) it was that bad. Will not return anytime soon. If you're looking for good Tex-Mex in the Brazos Valley, you can do better literally anywhere else. read more

Beware! Their burrito is actually a taco sized tortilla rolled up. I also got steak in it and they charged me 2.75 for the few pieces that could fit in. I paid 11 bucks for the whole thing! If I had wanted a taco I would of just ordered a taco. I was informed that their jumbo burrito was the reg size burrito. Nice Mexican restaurant to enjoy a limited amount of food items. I suggest trying the fried Avocado. The drinks were good and worth the price. I attended a drag brunch and had a great time. I suggest you try the drag brunch and show your support. You have to make reservations on their Facebook page for Cora's Drag Brunch. It's normally held on a Sunday either at 12 noon or 2:30pm. Make sure to bring some dollar bills to tip the drag queens. Overall a a nice restaurant to enjoy Mexican and cocktails. Service was good as they were very busy. Recommended for eating solo or with family and friends. Parking is limited. read more

Average food. Menu pricing seems ok, if you ask for something not specifically on the menu, ask the price before. One chicken breast added to a salad $6.79. the chicken breast salad on the menu is $7.89. crazy. Should of gotten a whole salad for the extra 1$. I just want to take a minute and brag on Papa Perez! Last night we had a family dinner to celebrate my daughter's 11th birthday, and Liz and her crew went out of their way to make it awesome! I emailed Liz earlier in the week asking if they could accommodate our large group and if we could make a reservation and of course she gladly did it. We got there and were in the back room, our large party couldn't all sit at one table due to covid, which we knew, but she made sure we were side by side. They gave us an awesome server and met every single need we had. Oh and Liz checked on us personally a few times. Papa Perez has a great location and a nice space. People say it's good but I've been there twice and am not impressed. Chips are good but the salsa is weak. Fajitas seen overly marinated and the enchiladas lack flavor. Charo Breanna are just OK. Something seemed not quite right about the barbacoa. Papa Perez always has been and always will be a family favorite and was the very first restaurant I remember driving all the way to Downtown Bryan for. Very nice staff who are eager to please, but unfortunately the food and drinks are mediocre. The chips and salsa are ok but not remarkable in any way. The house margaritas tasted mostly of sours mix. The bean soup is actually delicious and worth a visit just for that. It's full of bacon and rich flavor and priced low. The tortilla soup had good ingredients but the flavor was kind of off. Not spoiled, just not quite right for a very common TexMex dish. The papa jumbo burritos weren't great, although they were large. The specialty margaritas were good, made from real lime juice. The verde enchilada was generous but possibly the worst tomatillo sauce I've ever tasted. Overall the flavors were just wrong in so many dishes. I have a policy of trying a place three times, just to give them the benefit of a doubt; maybe I caught them on a bad day, who knows. But if I am getting the same vibe, I'll know definitely if I'm going to be a regular thereafter or not. Papa Perez isn't one of those places. First and foremost, every time I've gone, the staff have been very friendly. The food while certainly not the worst Mexican food I've ever had in B/CS area, is only so-so. The beans are tasteless and bland. The rice is equally as bland but at least somewhat moist. I only mention that because Mexican rice in restaurants is often dry and devoid of any flavor. If you are a fan of Mex food, then you know exactly what I mean. This past weekend I tried the Chili con Carne plate, and I couldn't eat it. Instead I nibbled at the beans and enjoyed the guacamole and chips. When the waitress asked me why I didn't like the food, I owned it immediately and told her it was my own fault for not reading the entree description thoroughly. You see, in my mind when I think of chili con carne, I think of cubed beef in a rich red gravy. Instead I was given a sort of extremely soupy ground beef dish, that was greasy and heavy in salt.
