I went to apply for a replacement card for my son. I showed up on a Friday around 1pm and ended up waiting about 1.5 hours. Once I was called, I gave the representative my filled in application and documents. She handed me a receipt and told me that I'll receive the card within 2 weeks. I didn't look at the receipt when she handed it to me. My mistake. Here it is, 4 days later and I finally look at the receipt to notice that the address listed on the receipt is completely wrong. It's an address that I've never even lived at or even been to. Now, I get the fun task of going back to the office to apply for ANOTHER replacement card. Supposedly, the one that is being delivered to that address will not be left there by the postal service. If there was another alternative, I'd do it. read more

I live in Cedar Park and thought, "I've heard the Austin Office is really slow unless you show up at opening. I should just go to the Georgetown office." Harumph. I went to the Austin office at opening last time and they were fast and efficient with lots of windows open. I got to the Georgetown Office at 11:15am, and so far only two windows are open and only three people have been seen in 20 minutes. Yikes. I live in Georgetown so went to the office here. Got there about 15 mins after it opened (this was durning Spring Break so a little more crowded) . Got my number which told me I had a 40 min wait. Almost at 40 mins I was called into the back, which is were all the workers are. Less than 5 mins later I had my new SS card coming in the mail. I understand things have changed since COVID-19, but this is insane. I first contacted the social security office because I needed a replacement card for my daughter. I contacted them and they explained they are doing no in person request. Okay that is understandable. I was then instructed to mail in paper to request a replacement and submit original copies of identification via mail. With that being said I hesitantly did so. I was assured that after they received my information that I could receive the requested documents in 5-7 days. That was in August. It is now October. No one is working in the office except supervisors. No one knows where my documents are. No one can help me. I have checked on this file every week for almost two months now. I have spoken to five different representatives. One even told me he could send a letter with my requested information. That was a lie. I have not received anything but anxiety.All the original documentation is gone. read more

Horrible place. Went to get a replacement ss card after trying to do it online and being told I would have to go to an office. Got there and tried to check in on the computer. The screen appears to be a touch screen so I kept pressing the button and it didnt work. Finally noticed a black mouse at the bottom of a black box the computer was housed in and realized you had to use the mouse. Saw about 10 people come in after me try to do the same thing. Took a number and sat down. The security guard bellowed across the room that everyone there needed to "keep it down" as people could not hear their numbers being called. The employees who called the numbers sat at their desks and yelled out the numbers across the room. I felt sorry for the people in the outer waiting room trying to her their numbers, after all, it was explained, if you miss your number, get another one and get back in line. After an hour I got to see someone. I had all my credentials, drivers license, passport, utility bill etc in my hand to get a replacement card. The lady asked me for my SS number and I had to say it out loud by everyone in the waiting area. Do they not realize this is sensitive info? Why wouldnt they have you write it down and hand it to them? I'll need your application was the first thing she said. I said I was not aware I needed an application. she said they are by the front door. Fill it out , take another number and get back in line. There was a big TV screen in there flashing information the whole time I waited, couldn't they indicate on there what you need if coming for name change, ss card etc? I had a great experience at this office. After about a 45 minute wait I was helped by the nicest gentleman by the name of Shawn Wallace. He was extremely knowledgeable about what I needed and corrected me on some information I was previously given by an employee there. I will say that it's best to verify the information given, especially when you are making a lifelong decision concerning retirement benefits. We were there a total of two and a half hours. The first hour to get assigned a reviewer the second half hour for the reviewer. The staff was very nice and friendly, what they did was immediate results not waiting weeks like we thought. They were wonderful with my elderly Mom, even made sure she was alright and not under pressure to make changes she didn't want to do. read more

After reading the reviews about this place I was kinda scared to use this one but I didn't want to go into Austin. I didn't have an appointment but I only waited an hour and a half. The air conditioning wasn't working well so yes it was hot but I didn't have trouble finding a parking spot or a seat inside. You can't have outside food or drink but the people that worked there were nice. I think what the bad reviews were doing is associating the clientele with the facility. You see all kinds of people at these places ! I did not have a bad experience and I thought that the employees did a great job. Called social security and was told that I could be seen by appointment only. The individual that I contacted gathered my information and told me that the information would be passed on to management and that management would call and set up an appointment for me. Was told that it would be about two weeks before I would be contacted. This took place in August. Never did receive a call. (What I need is a name change on a social card for my wife, and to try and enroll her in Medicare. We recently got married). Called back in three weeks and contacted another reprehensive and went through the same routine, management will call with an appointment. Never did call. My daughter needed a copy of her social security card to attend school. I live approximately 50 miles from my nearest social security office. I took my daughter out of school, left work and got directions to the Georgetown, Texas office via their voicemail. Got to Georgetown about 1:45(office closes at 3:00), followed the directions given...could not find it. Called the office and after being on hold for ten minutes, got directions from someone at the office. Couldn't find it, called back...on hold for another 10 minutes. Got different directions from the same person, couldn't find it. Called back and was finally told that the sign could not be seen from the road! This information would have been useful the first 4 times I drove past it. Finally found it...now it is 3:02...some rent a cop with an attitude at the door says they are closed. I explained the trouble I had and was laughed at and told I would have to come back. I asked the woman, and I use that term loosely, if she would at least go in to see if they would agree to see me and she flat out refused. Judging by her attitude, it must have made her day, to have had the opportunity to treat me in such a manner. So that was a wasted day out of school for my daughter, time I could have used at work, as well as, the gas and ultimate aggravation. I decided to send in all the documents, my driver's license, my daughter's state id and birth certificate. Not copies, mind you, but originals. Called three days later to see if my documents had been received and was told she didn't know and in order to find out would have to ask her co-workers. Of course, they were all busy, so that was out of the question. She did tell me that it would probably take a week for them to receive it! Again, I live 50 miles from the office....a week REALLY? So, here I sit at the mercy of people who neither care or even bother to ACT as if they do. I intend on filing a complaint with my congressman, not that I expect any satisfaction. My government in action, or rather inaction. And to think that I help to pay these people's salaries. If I treated people like this at my place of business, I wouldn't have it long. Yes, I had to wait. But I arrived after lunch to avoid the morning rush. The waiting room was about 75% full. I checked in at the kiosk and prepared to hunker down for the afternoon. After 45 minutes my name was called but it was just to screen my needs to make sure they could help me and that I had the proper documents. The screener was polite and professional. I waited another 15-20 minutes and my name was called. The gentleman that helped me was very friendly and helpful and even gave me some tips on what I could do to make sure I did not have problems in the future. I was in and out in one hour, 15 minutes. Overall, I was pleased with my experience. For a government agency I didn't think I had to wait overly long. I've been to other government agencies where I had to block off at least a half day to wait in an uncomfortable chair in an overly hot room for a 10 minute appointment. read more

This location is not closed. I don't know if that is a mistake or an ill-tempered prank, but it's incorrect. I had to wait for it a bit, no longer the ten minutes, but I got great service on the phone and then went to the location personally. The drive was actually longer than the wait.The people are a bit on the terse side around closing time if you're fumbling through paperwork (sorry, first time through!!), but they were efficient and know what they are doing. Look, no one wants to be in an ugly strip mall in Georgetown doing government errands and waiting in line, so people are inclined to give bad reviews, but to lie about it being closed or to be unfair to the people working there is pretty silly. They called numbers clearly, the kiosk system was good (the mouse and keypad were very clearly placed, they endeavor to keep SS numbers private), they work to get through cases quickly but thoroughly from what I saw, no one was unhappy or getting bad service, the air conditioning was working on a day with a terrible heat index warning, and there was plenty of seating. Then they get irritated if you ask them questions. My wife has been trying to get back pay for eight months. Her daughter is totally disabled and they cut her off totally. Said she was ok. I take my seat and notice that the place starts getting more and more crowded. So as I'm reading my magazine, which I highly recommend, if you are not into people watching, I look over the top and see these to older people banging on the equipment that is suppose to be signing in all the people as they come into the this building. Well of course NOONE in the building is coming to help them and the window that was open that could have seen this clearly has now closed and the security guard - yeah she doesn't work for them. So I get up and help them put the printer back together that they have now beat the holy day lights out of and wow numbers starts spitting out like it was at a race. So I kindly told the older gentleman and his companion, you may want to take the one on top :). I then see that many older couples have arrived and well my 20 minute wait time has now gone to an hour and 15 minutes so I gave up my seat (which there are not many) to the old folks. I then see that all the other numbers are being called except the (**N**) numbers hmmmmm .... while messing with the banging of the machines and the computer and not getting paid for it by the government - did I miss my number? - So I kindly ask the --** yes 1 window open ** - NOPE he went to lunch --- WHAT THE HELL - yes ladies and gentlemen - then person handling the Ns has left the building to go to lunch and no supervisors could help. So now my 20 minutes are at 1 hour and 30 minutes and I have worked off the clock for the government. After all said and done he got his lunch and I got my Social Security Card replaced, but I didn't get my lunch. read more

This is the worst government agency I've ever dealt with. They have no accommodations for handicapped individuals. Not sure why they have a sign that states to ask for reasonable accommodations when you would have to wait outside in the cold whether in a wheel chair or standing. Staff are obviously very unhappy with their jobs. Security aka Barney is rude. I think he has the little man syndrome. Seems you can't ask questions until you wait forever only to find out that you need to come back to start all over again. If they call your name and you're hard of hearing, too bad so sad because they don't have a speaker system. Not going back there again. I'll just drive to Austin. Not even 1 star read more

after a very long wait- over 1.hr, I did get to see an agent who was very nice and helpful. However I found out later that I had not been made aware of all my benefits, so I tried to call to make an appointment, and yup... its actually impossible, you call, get in line for "the next available agent" , then "all agents are busy" , then "goodbye".........I am still repeatedly trying so I can help them and me be more efficient, but that wait is staring me in the face again....Its the worst staffed,worst office in Georgetown, but then it's Social Security , right ??? Positive shout out to the staff who have to put up with it, and the neighbors who have cars parking all over the street due to the tiny parking lot....don't vote any more playing field bonds till they fix this for us oldies who need to walk and cant easily take a wait of over an hour with also small crying children in the waiting area.....Inhumane !! read more

I called SS Admin in Georgetown in late Oct. and was informed that I needed to make an appointment. The appointment was set for the first of Dec. at 10:30am. I arrived 15 mins early. Had no problem with a parking spot as a car was pulling out as I drove in. I signed in and sat down to read my book. My name was called 5 mins later. I was interviewed by a very nice, competent rep. After I answered all the questions I was told when my payments would be changed and the amount. The rep and I briefly chatted about our families and I left. I was driving out of the parking lot at 10:38 a.m. I was smiling. I didn't give 5 stars because I had to wait so long for an appointment. read more

Mr. Davis answered my call and investigated my questions at length. I did not have to go into the office, and I found out what I needed to know. So i went to the Georgetown social security administration and just as i walked in and ready to get a number ticket this lady that was standing next to the ticket machine told us "why are you here for?" and were like for a social security and then she's like do you need it now. like if she was trying to get rid of us. She was so rude and like if she wanted to get rid of every person that was coming in. She also told us that the wait was over 3 hours and that we should come some other day or in 3 weeks, not letting us take a decision whether to stay, nope it was like go! you don't want to wait 3 hours. Anyways in conclusion the service was horrible, they should just tell us to take a ticket and the wait would be over 3 hours whether or not you want to stay and wait is you decision, not asking questions when you walk in and specially not personal questions. read more

Actually, the first visit I had with SS Georgetown was behind closed doors and very good! I walked away satsified and respected. However, the visit yesterday, 4/6/2016 was not. The woman sitting in window #1 called my name and before I could even sit down she started asking my reason for being there. But, that's not what concerns me. She was talking so loudly that the people in the waiting room could hear. As it turned out, I made an unnecessary visit which was OK. But, I consider my business private and am a private person by nature. As she was talking I turned around to look at the waiting room behind me (windows and waiting room all same room) to give her the hint that she should lower her voice. People were staring at me. The woman was slightly irritated that I came in with my question and that coupled with the loud voice was embarrassing for me. I held off on getting my name changed after getting married because I've heard the horror stories about the SS office. Decided to go at 9:30 am on Friday. Minimal parking (10 spots for non-employees, unless there were more on the side). There does seem to be decent on-street parking if needed. Luckily we had a spot right up front. There were only two employees helping customers which had me a little concerned. Got a ticket, filled out my paperwork, and was called up within 20 minutes. The name change took another 10 and I was done. The security guard was super helpful and the employees were cordial as well. None of that stereotypical attitude I have heard about from government offices. I'm not sure if I hit them on a slow day or if this is normal for a Friday morning, but I'm so glad I went to the Georgetown location instead of Austin! read more
