Over the last 40 yrs, I have had the opportunity to dine in over 200 fine dining establishments from the east coast to the west coast and in all those meals I have NEVER had a worse dining experience than the one I had recently at Social Oak. I generally don't do extensive reviews but am giving one here so as to hopefully save someone else from a similar experience. Atmosphere: Decent décor. A little loud and despite the small size, was not full on a Friday night at prime time. Now, I know why. Bar: Appears to be a meeting place for desperate boomers meeting their online dating app connections. Very limited wine and beer list. Don't know how you can call yourself a bar when you only have 3 beers available. Ordered a $200 bottle of wine which was clearly not maintained in a climate controlled refrigerator as it had to be around 85 deg in temp and was ruined. They're likely storing them in a case in a back room somewhere. More on the wine later. Menu: Very limited options. Plenty of appetizers but that's about it. Maybe some are good. Didn't try them. Here's where it gets really bad. They claim to be a prime steakhouse. I've eaten at some of the finest steakhouses in the country and this one doesn't even come close. They had 2 steak options on the menu. The first was a Prime "tomahawk" ribeye. Their "Market price" was $85/lb and the smallest steak they have is 3 lbs(1 lb of which is likely bone.) That equates to over $250 for a steak!! Sorry but no steak is worth $250 and I've never paid anything close to that at some of the finest steakhouses in the country. Needless to say, I did not order it so I can't say how well it was cooked. The second steak offering was a Wagyu strip steak at $20/oz. Since there really aren't any other true entree offerings(other than salad or mac & cheese), I chose this option. Ordered 6 oz size. Fully 1/3 of that 6 oz was fat cap. Not marbling, mind you, but 2 inches of sliced FAT with no muscle fiber meat in it whatsoever. My dog loved it but I basically paid $120 for 4 oz of wagyu which was AVERAGE at best. None of the items offered come with sides. They are all a la carte and there ARE NO SIDES ON THE MENU. Explain that one to me. Wife and I split a salad so we would have something else to eat besides meat which was again average at best. Service: First time in my life that I haven't left a tip. Both waiter and manager were cocky and rude. Example: When I said there was 2" of fat cap on the wagyu steak, the waiter responded with "that's called marbling, sir." Uh, no it's not, punk. Finally, when it was time to end our terrible meal and experience, I asked for the cork so that we could take the remainder of our unfinished bottle of wine home. They explained that their liquor license doesn't allow that. AYFKM!!??? I have NEVER eaten at a restaurant that didn't allow us to take the wine we didn't consume home, nor is there a liquor license that doesn't allow this. This is purely THEIR POLICY which is likely directed by some clueless attorney. Instead, they were essentially encouraging irresponsible drinking and driving by not allowing customers to take home the balance of the expensive bottle of wine purchased. To be clear, Idaho law does NOT prevent this as long as it is corked and stored in the trunk or behind the back seat. Finally, when the bill came, they tack on a 3% "Merchant Fee" to the entire bill. I have no idea what this is. I assume it is a fee for the CC use(like most people would ever pay cash for a $500 meal.) I have NEVER eaten at a restaurant that tacked this on and even other retail establishments who do always have signs making you aware of it when entering or paying. You couldn't pay me to return to this place and judging by the comments I've gotten from others since that night, I doubt any of them will either. If I could give it ZERO stars, I would. I give them 1-2 yrs before they're out of business. Added after false response by business owner: Perhaps you should question your dishonest employees who no doubt lied to your face about the interaction. YOU WEREN'T THERE. So, don't take their dishonest word for it. I did not "curse out" anyone. read more

Such an amazing experience at Social Oak tonight with friends. The ambience was so unique and we thoroughly enjoyed our time tucked away in a quiet and comfortable booth in the back corner. Everything we ordered was delicious and we highly recommend the chicken sandwich. Our server Nicole was over the top personable and helpful and offered us great recommendations. I was nervous about trying a brand new restaurant bc usually there a bumps when a place opens. But our whole table really enjoyed everything! Social Oak is incredible!! This is just what Eagle was missing! The food is top tier! We travel all over and eat at so many places, the burger here is the best we have ever had hands down! The creativity of the menu is truly incredible! The deviled eggs are so delicious! Also, try the sloppy Joe, the flavor was so good and it was such a good starter, it was unlike anything I have had!! Their drink menu is creative and so good! The customer service is amazing, they make sure your experience is one you won't forget! We had a frustrating experience here. We were switched between servers multiple times with little communication, which made the service feel really disorganized. We were originally seated outside in a very sunny spot and had to ask to be moved, which they accommodated after telling them we'd just leave if they didn't have anything else. After being reseated, we waited around 15 minutes before anyone came to help us, only to then be told the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes. Reading other reviews afterward mentioning that guests felt unwelcome honestly matched how we felt during our visit as well. Nice atmosphere and cordial staff. Quality of the food and cocktails was very high. However, I think they need some time to figure out what they want to be. Although food was very good , they describe their full size burgers and chicken sandwiches (which I repeat are very good) as "shareable" but you have to cut them in portions to share. And the meat aging cabinet with the large slab of beef hanging would suggest that they are a high end steakhouse. But there are no steaks offered on the menu. Apparently they are going to have an aged steak club(?) where you buy your steak there and take it home to cook yourself? We will return when they figure out their dining style. read more

My husband and I went here last week to try it out and were overall happy with the experience. They are pretty new so I was expecting the service to take a little longer, which it did. The drinks were amazing and I am sure this is the entire goal since the food menu is so small and a little over priced. I ordered the caviar bump as an appetizer but it came late after our entrees. The caviar is WAY over priced sitting at $23 for a microscopic amount (hence the word bump) either way it was a waste of money. The chicken sandwich we got was very delicious but that is all you will receive, just a sandwich and no sides. We tried to order the crab BLT but they said it's not ready to order yet? They should indicate whether something isn't available on the menu...The interior is beautiful with the large tree behind the bar but it's way too dark inside and made it hard to see anything. I plan to visit again soon so we will see how things progress. read more
