I always love to go to the Smokey Mo's. I crave BBQ constantly and the Smokey Mo's offers great food, service, and the food is relatively affordable considering how much it costs to eat out these days. I love their sausage. It's mouth-wateringly tender, flavorful and it also comes in jalapeño if your palette favors the spicy. It also pairs quite well with their BBQ sauce which is a nice blend of sweet and smokey. I really dig their potato salad which is nice and moist. It scoops like ice cream and is tasty like a scoop of ice cream. Potato salad should never be dry. I'm also rather fond of the macaroni and cheese. My wife says they add a little bit of citric acid to it. It's how they make it so creamy. It is O so creamy. PRAISE CHEESUS! The employees are both courteous and professional. They cut off the blackened portion of my moist brisket at my request to make it easier to chew and digest. Class act! They have bread, pickles and onions out on the floor so you can make your own BBQ sandwich. And I suggest you do. Praise Cheesus!

3 Meat Plate with brisket, sausage, chicken, mac and cheese, and creamed corn

If you are craving BBQ, and your go-to pit has already sold out for the evening, Smokey Mo's stands as a reliable alternative. This establishment dishes out all the classic BBQ staples, each seasoned and cooked in the traditional manner you'd expect. I always try the brisket and sausage, which were good but a bit dry. The highlight was their smoked chicken, which was succulent and infused with a rich, smoky essence. The side dishes--creamy mac and cheese, luscious creamed corn, and hearty bacon ranch potatoes--were all seasoned to perfection and quite satisfying, though it was evident that they had been reheated rather than prepared fresh. The 'sloppy mo' was a let down. It was cold, small in portion, and just looked unappetizing. Overall, Smokey Mo's is a basic fast-food BBQ joint, from its unremarkable decor to its approach to food preparation. Despite these drawbacks, the flavors generally hit the spot, making it a decent option for those sudden BBQ cravings.

    Brisket

Ordered pick up from here. Sides and turkey were decent. Service was friendly. But my lord this brisket was drier than the Sahara desert. Can't have that in Texas

    Breakfast bowl

This is the first time I've ever left a negative review. I am so disappointed with the food I just received. I ordered the breakfast bowl and paid extra for brisket and potatoes. There was a tiny sliver of brisket and I counted 8 tiny diced potatoes that look stale. I also received a sweet tea with no ice. Thanks for the room temperature sweet tea and this really unappetizing breakfast bowl.

Chopped sandwich w side of beans....or a tablespoon of beans rather
    Sasha R.

Well you can definitely tell there is different ownership here. This Smokey Mo's has gone down hill for sure. We purchased 3 meals- chopped sandwich w side of beans, 2 meat combo, a brisket plate, and choc cake slice...$65.00. Holy wow! That side of beans you see in the pic is half the size the sides used to be. The brisket was dry, the beans had no flavor, and the sides are the size of a sample cup from Costco. So while the food has gone downhill, those prices have surely found the uphill.

It's a BBQ truck & on a Saturday evening they had ALL MEAT ready! Nothing was out so we had our pick. We ordered the 2 meats and 2 sides plate to share with brisket, pulled pork, mac & cheese, and scalloped potatoes. Favorite part of the dish was by far the brisket which was close to perfect. Pulled pork was seasoned with peppers or something, so found it a little distracting. But everything was good. Service was great, we ordered at the truck & they brought it to us at the bar next door, which has seating, twinkle lights, and on Sat college football all around. It's about 25 minutes over curvy roads thru the hills outside of Austin central metro area. I was glad that I went because I've been to Austin many times yet had not been northwest of the city. I tried many items. The sides were only $4 for the "small" portions (which weren't that small), so I tried all of them. The mac and cheese cork screw pasta was especially delicious. In fact, every side was delish and decadent. The jicama cole slaw was good and crunchy, the scalloped potatoes delish, the sriracha cole slaw had a good kick. I also liked the green chili corn and the pinto beans (very hearty). There was a side of pickle chips and onions. Now for the most important part, the brisket. It had a delicious bark on it, but it was just a bit dry. When I told my native Austinite friends this later, they all got very quiet ;). I believe that perhaps the truck makes the meat every other day, and I was there on the second day and so the meat got a bit dry (I'm being purely speculative about this and could be wrong). But it was still amazing! The special that day was "The Volcano Sandwich" (see photos) with brisket, potato salad, bacon jam, jalapenos, and pepper vinegar sauce on a hamburger bun. By the ingredients list, I thought it would be spicy, but it really was not. It was excellent. I also got the straight slices of brisket in its purest form. Again, delicious but a bit on the dry side. I also opted for some pork and got the Maui Waui Taco with pulled pork, pineapple pico de gallo, and chipotle sour cream. It was very tasty and I recommend it for the pork. It had a good kick and just sweet enough, but too much so. I was unsure whether Jim's Smokehouse had a second location along Barton Springs Road in Austin because it was listed on the web. I tried calling a few times to get more information, but got voicemail both times. I confirmed later that, as of this writing, the dt Austin location was closed down. Jim's Smokehouse is co-located with a few other food trucks. There are picnics tables, shaded in the back and a ping pong table. That day, I was served by Cecil? who was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. Such a nice guy. He brought all the food out to me along with the entire napkin holder. He appropriately waited for about 15 minutes to bring me the dessert which was the Keylime Pie with strawberry sauce (on the side). I tell you the pie was fantastic - get it! I think Jim's Smokehouse is 5/5 overall. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Lazy G BBQ Company in Cedar Park is exactly what it sounds like: lazy. For a BBQ joint in Texas,…read morewhere the standard is high, this place is embarrassingly bad. Rudy's BBQ should be the baseline, yet Lazy G doesn't even reach that. I ordered the ribs and brisket, hoping for something decent, but both were far below average. The brisket was especially disappointing--you could see the congealed fat right in the slices (see pictures). Serving meat at the right temperature is BBQ 101, and their failure here made the texture and flavor a cold, greasy mess. The sides weren't any better. The cucumber salad was bland, with just a dusting of dill and no seasoning whatsoever. Adding salt and vinegar should be a no-brainer, but apparently, even the basics were too much effort here. I was excited to try the smoked mushroom side (as a mushroom lover), but it was downright unpleasant. There was zero smokiness, and the sauce tasted like a watered-down BBQ sauce, giving the button mushrooms a soggy, unappetizing texture. The BBQ sauce was another letdown--it tasted like bottled Sweet Baby Ray's. For a BBQ place, using (or at least mimicking) store-bought sauce is the ultimate red flag that they just don't care. Even at $22 for a two-meat plate, the quality doesn't justify the price. In short, Lazy G BBQ Company doesn't just fall short--it doesn't even try. If their goal was to live up to their name, they succeeded; this food is lazy, uninspired, and, frankly, not worth your time or money.

The next morning he said, "I kept telling myself I need to leave a little bit more for Lee Lee but I kept opening it back up and eating more until it was all gone!" Good thing I had my bites right when we arrived at our hotel because I was so hungry. My husband ordered sliced brisket and we lucked out and got a few of the brisket burnt ends. They weren't all "candified" like a lot of the other bbq places serve; but they were smoky and delicious. I also enjoyed the potato salad. We were excited to order the smoked mushrooms but honestly, they could have used a bit more flavor for me. You could just tap the salt shaker and it would have been fine.
