I came here a month ago about 1 hrs before the place closed.. due to Covid hrs . I was excited to fix up my daughter's bike and my own so all 3 of my kids can ride together. I was excited to walk in because I used to really be into bikes. I came in for 4 inner tubes and some grips. They had a lot of high end bikes and cool stuff. The vibe of Hurry the Fak up and make your choice and GTFO was overwhelming to say the least. This guy was so agitated that came in here lol. I didn't understand. Even my daughter said that he was rude and she's 11 .No hi..or welcome.. or how can I help you. I will never set foot in here again. I was actually thinking of buying a new bike but will be looking else wear. Look guys..its a niche market. Its a bike. I know you can spend 10k on a carbon Yada yada..with yada yada. So incredibly disappointed. I came in with a bike that I was VERY specific on what I wanted. I wanted all new WHEELS as well as of course the tires and a new seat. Was willing to pay the money to help restore this bike. (I still have my own work to do on it) When I first dropped it off he wasn't very helpful or friendly. Made me feel like I was wasting his time. But since it's a local small biz I thought I would give them a shot. I picked it up and all it had was new tires (no wheels) and a new chain. $120 later & over a week to get back! When I mentioned that the old wheels are still on & there's no new seat all he said was "I have to order them" So my question is WHY didn't you order them originally when I first dropped off the bike in the first place???!!! He Didn't have a new seat. Tried to give me a 10speed bike seat for a little kids bike. I left with brand new tires on the SAME crappy wheels. Horrible service and horrible work. So I brought my bike here for a tune up and rode the bike once at the beach. As I rode my bike I notice a big squeak. This guy didn't even bother to tight up the bolt that holds my frame together. If I would have took my mountain bike down to the mountains it would have fallen apart for sure. I could have been injured badly. A friend had the same issue with his bike. Loose bolts Is a no no. His crank fell apart first day riding. Stay away from this business. They will not bother to redo it and cut you short. This is really sad. read more

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Went in to get some air into my girlfriend's tires (I only had a hand pump,) but the employee went above and beyond to do a quick check and tightened a few screws here n there. As we were leaving to rack her bike on the car another employee kindly helped us out with securing the bike more safely. Great shop and great staff. My son got his first big boy BMX bike today and they made sure it was the perfect fit. I didn't realize how much he liked it until we got home. So if anyone is looking to buy a bike now or in future, stop by smithscycle and give these guys your time. Here's why, the level of care and customer service is better than most on a good day, along with a diverse selection plus their ability to get stock they may not have. I made 1 five second phone call and sent 2 emails back on 4/23 I walked in on 8/15 and introduced myself as the Red Marlin 7 from "that place", and Ronnie immediately was like "Josh? Man I've seen your social media "how's the leg after your crash?" These guys genuinely care and take their time to do it right. They are a little bit out of my way but I will be coming back here for my next bike I get. I'm in love with the procaliber and the pricy supercaliber. Maybe someday. Thanks again. I called to ask for help and see if my jogging stroller could be fixed at their shop. The guy on the phone was not polite at all he was rushing me and didn't even explain the cost or if I would have to pay for them to look at my stroller, he just said bring it in and clicked on me. I was too scared to call back and ask anything else, and I ended up going to a local mom and pop shop. They had proper customer service skills and actually gave me the upfront price for repair right away. I don't want to say this guy was straight out rude, maybe he just can't help it? Maybe he doesn't realize he talks as fast as an auctioneer and should take his time with possible customers that have anxiety about wasting money & finding a solution to something they have zero knowledge on. Had he been a bit more helpful I would have come in, but like I said, he scared me off. read more

I bought my daughter's first bike based on reviews from Yelp and because it's close to us. When we went in the first time there were two guys working, one behind the counter and another doing repair on a bike. *Mental check- they also do repairs. When the guy behind the counter was done he came over to help us look. My daughter wasn't very decisive about what she wanted and the guy was very pleasant. He brought out a few bikes for her to try out, adjusted the height, etc. He was very pleasant to work with and never made us feel rushed. We bought a cute little bike that day. Another time, my niece bought a bike on-line (she said because it was WAAAY cheap). We go to the City of Industry to pick it up. In a box. In pieces. Talk about you get what you pay for! Well, I ended up hauling the beach cruiser home in the box and called Smith's Cycle to see if they can put it all together. They were so sweet. They didn't give me any hassles at all about not purchasing the bike there---guy thought my niece was funny. I didn't. Anyway, for a nominal fee, they assembled the 'cheap' bike, fitted it to her 5'9 height and she went in her merry little way. I was relieved that Smith was able to provide that service and that I didn't have to deal with it. So yeah, both times I came out happy from Smith's Cycle. The best bike shop "gem" in Lomita ! Smith's Cycle is two blocks from me and I have been in there a few times throughout the past few years. I have never been an avid cyclist so the visits were usually for odds and ends for my beach cruiser which didn't require much customer service. I recently got in to Road Biking as well as Mountain Biking. I took my road bike in yesterday as the chain was rubbing on the de-railer pretty bad. I had tried adjusting this myself but frustration got the best of me. A day prior "Voc" had sold me a tube for the same bike and even installed it free. This was enough for me to bring my bike back to Smiths for the chain rub issue. Smith's Cycle not only fixed my 10speed de-railer issue while I waited, but also trued both wheels on my Mountain bike the same day all while I waited. The customer service I received on 10/8/2012 from both gentleman (Alfredo and Vok) was second to none. Thanks guys.. I'll be back! read more

Called early today to inquire on a 34 tooth chainring. Person over the phone says he does have one in stock and says its used. I asked how much..he replied with 15 dollars. Sounds fair so i ride my bike to the shop to purchase the part. Another older guy grabbed the part and says now its 27 dollars and change. I told him the rep. Over the phone says 15 dollars because its used. And now this other guy says he made a mistake because its new. I told him theres no way thats new. The paint is clearly oxidized and paint chipped in a few spots caused by wear. I pointed out that this part is old and used. Then he replied well you can take or leave it. After going back and forth a few times he agreed to sell it to me for the price told to me over the phone. And had to add that the difference will be paid by his own employee that quoted me wrong supposedly over the phone. Was that suppose to guilt me into agreeing to pay for the price of a new part?? This guy was shady and dishonest. If i wasnt persistant he wouldve slept at night knowing he just ripped me off. I own Business as well being honest to my customers is a priority. I would not come back here solely because i cannot do business with a liar and is willing to throw his integrity in the trash for $15. read more

I had a simple need to attach a double bike trailer to a hybrid cruiser with 3 internal gears and I ended up visiting a total of 4 bike shops in the same day! At the first shop over on Hawthorne and Torrance near Bevmo the gentleman said that because of the internal gear hub I can't use the quick release skewer that comes with my trailer. Therefore I would need an "alternative" solution, which he says was to use the safety strap on the hitch arm and wrap it around and around the chain stay and clip it on! And not to worry because my trailer is equipped with an anti-tip feature! *shudder*. I went for a second opinion with the guys near Hawthorne and Lomita. I really like them. They gave me the right solution BUT their mechanics were too busy to do the install. Moving onto the third shop I trekked back to a shop near Sepulveda and Crenshaw and the mechanic was also very nice but the solution wasn't ideal. He said the axle was too short therefore I could special-order a longer Shimano axle and rebuild the back for a lot of $$ (might have been true for the worst case scenario according to Smith's). Or alternately we could buy a generic adapter, break the spring off of my trailer piece and attach them together. I asked nervously, "wouldn't that kind of like void the warranty on my trailer?" Still, I very much appreciated his time and care and problem solving- Last visit was Smith Cycles which is furthest from my house. By this time it was late in the afternoon when I dropped by and I had unloaded and loaded three kids and a full sized bike several times and was exhausted- but also interested by how diverse each advice had been. Ron came out to my car and he pulled out the correct wrench and unscrewed the bolt, put the trailer piece on, and tightened the bolt and there it was. It took all of two minutes! I was in disbelief. And though I insisted, he wouldn't accept payment for it! It was such a simple solution that two other capable shops missed! I was so appreciative I decided to forego the dainty equestrian style helmet I was planning on and bought my helmet and accessories there. They could perhaps use more variety in the ladies helmets but they had a nice bontrager helmet in white. Plus I reasoned that if I keep visiting Smith Cycles I will inevitably get into fitness cycling and need one of these anyway. When it rang up for less than what he told me it cost he had the honesty to tell me the lower actual price. As I finished up at the counter he also gave me info on two local ladies riding groups that go on monthly rides. So there you have it. I was glad to have gotten such a spectrum of service, it turned into a fun quest and by comparison I know where I want to put my patronage! They were available, knowledgeable, generous, laid back, honest, and locally connected. I'm finally ready to do some recreational riding! This is my favorite bike shop! read more

My wife saw an ad for a couple of his and hers beach cruisers for sale. We were ecstatic about the bikes, but even more impressed with the service at Smith's Cycle. Whatever accessories you purchase for your bikes, the shop will gladly install them for you as quickly as possible. A few weeks afterwards, the rear rim of my bike was bent and "wobbly." My wife took the bike back to the store and they graciously straightened the rim/wheel out, no questions asked (not even asking for proof of purchase). I have been an avid cyclist for 17 years. I have seen the good and bad in bicycle shops so when I find one that has the optimal balance between customer service and technical expertise I ensure they get my business. All too often people get sucked into believing the mega stores offer a better shopping experience. It is just not true. The Helen's, Cynergy, and Performance bike stores are staffed with inexperienced sales people who don't know the difference between an 11-23 and 12-27 cassette, or when someone should be riding a 170mm vs. 172.5mm crankset. Just remember the devil is in the details. Eric is the head mechanic, and he and his staff can fix any issue a bike can experience. It doesn't matter if it is a road, MTB, hybrid, BMX or beach cruiser. Like other posts have noted, you can expect a long wait, but this is because their experience and customer service make business good even in times like these. If you are new to cycling they stock almost every part or bike you could desire. However, to keep overhead and prices low you usually can't immediately buy the high end components. This doesn't bother me because if anyone (including myself) is buying high end components then they should be doing serious research and picking specific parts which should be ordered anyway. When I order a part it almost always arrives in about 3 days. So in summary this is an excellent bike shop with the optimal balance between customer service, price point, and technical expertise. read more

Ron help. My father today seems like a really nice guy they also seem to get very fair pricing, they're not exactly super cheap but they definitely don't push you to buy things you don't need. My father tried to buy tires and the gentleman was honest enough to say that your tires are fine you don't need them, we changed out my handlebars and we change out brakes.
