This review is ONLY for the customer service we received when we came in to look for an e-bike for my son. We did not purchase or rent any. I had been doing my research for e-bikes for a couple of weeks now and came across this place. The owner was there working on a bike, he's the one that helped us. He was nice and really trying to help us but I got my first red flag when he didn't speak to us about mileage or asked the distance my son was going to ride the bike. When I asked him what class was this bike he wasn't able to give me a direct answer. But he showed me how fast it could go and it was 30 mph. Again, me needing him to clarify because my son can only get a class 2 but he wouldn't clarify what the bike really was. And I can see why, he just builds them. Also, the bike only had one motor. In a prior e-bike store (with more professional salesmen) we were told only one kid could ride on a one motor e-bike. So I asked him since it only had one motor if only one kid max. This man said yes two kids can ride on a one motor e-bike. I did my research and no, only one kid can ride on a one motor e-bike. False information. Now I can see how if I would have purchased this bike it would have messed up quite fast. I am glad I decided to take a look at other reviews. I kept getting red flags and I'm glad I listened to my gut. Saved myself from a bad experience. read more

I took my bike here to be serviced. Final bill was ~50% higher than the estimate and the repair took 4 weeks longer than I was quoted. Owner promised twice to come fix it but didn't show. Also completely dismissed the manufacturer's specs for my bike spokes, saying "he knew better." Would not return -- get all quotes and timelines in writing, or save yourself the hassle and find a better bike shop. read more

This is the best electric bike shop in the South Bay! The owner is onsite and is extremely knowledgeable and caring. We bought both my boys bikes here and they were fair and helpful! They ride their bikes throughout Manhattan Hermosa and Redondo. They have had flight tires and have worn down their brakes, but a simple stop at the shop and they are fixed and back on their way. We can't brag enough about the convenience and quality that this shop provides in both the bikes and the service. By the way, the price is very reasonable considering what's out there. In addition, they have added accessories to carry bags and even a surf board. If you want to be in good hands and have someone that will be there for you down the road of owning electric bikes.... Went in two weeks ago for tube replacement for our front tire, could not have been easier or faster, in and out in less than 10 minutes.

Dropped my electric scooter off at this shop to get it repaired and a new battery...never heard back from them. Called a month later, No returned call. Called several more times over the next month or two, left a message and no returned call. Stopped by and they didn't have my scooter and they had "No record of it". Shady as hell!! Beware of this store and owner and more importantly the bikes they are selling. Poor quality and dangerous if not maintained every minute. We purchased two e bikes about a year ago and since day one they had problems with brakes. The owner and staff at this time were arrogant and rude after the sale. I feel pity for them. Geoff quoted me $250 for a controller that I did not need. Didn't inspect the bike like he said he would. Turns out it was the main wIring harness which cost me $13. Robby also quotes ridiculous prices for simple service jobs and anything you've done yourself is garbage to them. Garbage is when you don't include cut off brakes for an E-Bike. Several months ago I got rid of cars altogether. I am now a full-time ebiker and live a block away from Strand Electric Bicycles. I was stoked to have this resource so close to me. I went into Geoff's store and told him I now want to customize a trick carbon fiber souped-up ebike with full suspension. I am fully prepared to pay cash for exactly what I want. He talked the talk, took down all my desired specs, said he'd get back to me with numbers and... 3 weeks later, nothing. Zero. Stopped by to ask him a question about another ebike I'm building. He was now hesitant to profer advice, saying that I had gone it on my own and did not want to be held accountable when I was dissatisfied. I told him that there will be many ebikes in my life from now on. He assured me that I'd have an estimate by the end of that day. That was 3 days ago. If I ran my business thusly, I would not have one. I do as I say and it is a burning obligation until I have done as I said I would. My customers come back and back and... I have lived here since 1971 and seen umpteen businesses in that shop. I don't think Geoff's is the last. By chance I just ran into the 5 Star reviewer Kelly B. who purchased a bike from Strand WITHOUT brakes that cut out the electric motor. DO NOT let anyone sell you such a bike no matter how competent a rider you think you are. If you accidentally lurch forward just 2 feet when you least expect it, a bus or a car will eventually be there to get you. read more

Bikes were great, staff was helpful. Would have given more stars, but when my out of town family was visiting in July, we rented 5 bikes in the afternoon, and they overcharged us. Should have been half day vs full. This was a $125 overcharge, which was annoying. The guy who charged us was cagey about it too, "uh, well what did they tell you the price would be on the phone?" I gave Strand Electric BIkes a $2,000 deposit to build a top of the line carbon frame mountain E-Bike in August of 2019. Geoff said it would be 2-4 weeks and be the best performing mountain e-bike anywhere. A bold claim which I didn't necessarily believe. I asked for a list of components that would be installed on the bike, which I never received, despite being promised again and again. My retail spidey-sense was definitely tingling. Two months later and another half a dozen calls to the owner Geoff (only one of which he returned), I still don't have a bike. When I connected with someone in the shop, they hemmed and hawed and said the frame had shipped, and then suddenly it hadn't shipped and was delayed (never found out why). Two more months and a dozen calls later (messages went unreturned) the frame had shipped, but they were waiting for other parts. In late JANUARY they finally tell me the bike is nearly finished. By this time I had moved to the Pacific Northwest, but I had travel planned to SoCal so I drove to Hermosa a couple of weeks later to pick up the bike. I took the bike for a short test ride, there were some minor tuning issues but the major issue was the bike would cross chain so badly in the lowest gears that I could not use the last two of the 9 speeds (no way they could have missed that). Geoff said they had trouble getting the offset chain ring from the supplier, but promised to get the chain ring, install it, and ship the bike to me at their cost (which I really appreciated). About 6 weeks later (and a few more calls) the bike arrives at my house, professionally packaged and in great shape, but no offset chain ring. I call the shop a couple more times and finally I get an angry, "If you don't like it, send it back and I will give you your money back." I tell them, I don't want my money back, I just want what I ordered. The truth was, by that time I trusted these guys so little, there is no way I am going to package and ship the bike back at my expense and then wait by the mailbox for my $4500 ... like some naive idiot who never learns a lesson ... which I was beginning to feel like. So they offer to ship me the chain ring, and I accept. It never shows. I call a couple more times to follow up. Finally, out of curiosity more than anything else, I ask them to pay to return the bike and return my money ... crickets. Buying a bike should be a joyful experience! It should be exciting and fun! And even though, when you plunk down that wad of cash, you may feel a pang of trepidation, the first thought you have after wiping the grin off your face from your first ride should be, "this was so worth it!." Instead, what I had was a ridiculously, hilarously, long and frustrating experience with a shop who had an owner that just didn't seem to give a rip. Nevertheless, every time I take out my bike, if the dark cloud of that experience threatens on the horizon, I look at my bike and say, "I don't blame you! Let's go have fun!" and off we go! In retrospect, I do not think these guys are intentionally dishonest. However, they executed so badly, for so long, and with such persistent disregard for customer service and communication, I am guessing I am not the only one who has had a very bad experience. I would not be surprised if they pollute half their sales with their inability to do what they say they will do. Will it happen to you? Will they leach the joy out of your new-bike-buying experience? I don't know, but why take the risk? P.S. I eventually tracked down the manufacturer of the offset chain ring, which turned out to be Luna Cycle in El Segundo (cost $90). Not only were they the only bike shop near us willing to service our bike brand (I called 3 places first and they all said they couldn't work on Blix bikes) but Jeff went above and beyond to repair a manufacturer defect in the motor on our new bike. I am not one to leave bad reviews. But I feel you need to know what to expect if you give these guys your business. We bought 2 ebikes from them 2 years ago. That purchase experience was fine. The 1st year maintenance is included (otherwise costs $100) so last year was fine, but did take a week to get done. We rode our bikes there today to get an annual service. Don't expect customer service. These guys do NOT want to service the bikes they sell to you. He said they had a $99"special" on their service, but wouldn't tell us what it included--super vague. He said to oil the chain and clean it up, among other "vague things" would be $150. We asked how much it was just to tighten the brakes..that was $70! He would not explain the differences in their services and then said they were really backed up and couldn't get to the bikes for over a week. Not ok since we ride them almost daily. Zero customer service.. it's like they were trying to get us to leave? It worked, we left and said we were taking your business elsewhere. They just did not care. So we rode down to Hermosa Pier and took our bikes to Mark at the Hermosa bike shop. So friendly, and explained exactly what was in the service they offered. By the way if you want to get your brakes tightened, it's only $20 and if you have an e-bike, there's an extra $15 surcharge because they're so heavy to lift. They can do a full service (chain oiled, tightening, brakes adjusted, bikes cleaned up, plus more) and have them ready by tomorrow. Onward and upward! read more

We are extremely happy with the experience we had today. We rented a couple of E-bikes to go cruising on the strand. We have been interested in purchasing E-bikes so we have rented them at several different locations to see what they're like and to get an idea of what we'd like. The service we got today was excellent, and the owner spent the better part a half an hour teaching us about the different things to look for when we make a purchase. He was able to explain the difference between his products and the others that are on the market, but never denigrated the other products. From what we have learned so far, and based on the prices we have seen, his prices are extremely competitive. When the time comes to make a purchase he will be the first place we go. read more

My husband and I decided to rent electric bikes for our anniversary day. We chose this place because of the location and value for e-bike rentals. The gentleman helping us was super friendly. After riding for 1 hr, the pedal fell off one of the bike - we decided to head back but it took a long time to ride back. It was terrible. That ruined the entire experience and had to try to tighten the pedal every 5 min. We tried to make the most out of it and stopped to eat instead. But they didn't give us the combination to one of the bike locks (had no key) and getting both bikes on the one other lock was difficult. When we went back to the shop and explained it there was no real apology or even an hr free rental for next time - we were expecting something. But we definitely loved the e-bikes and will be purchasing our own but unfortunately, we will find another location. read more

Terrible experience. Took my brand new $1,700 bike in for a flat tire. They quoted $45 and 15 minutes. When I arrived they then said 45 minutes and they would call me. After two hours, nobody from the shop called me. I called them and they said; "Nobody called you"? I said no. They said it was done but they are closing, to pick it up tomorrow. When I picked up my flat tire was repaired but, the bike was significantly damaged. STAY away from this place at ALL cost. They will DAMAGE you bike instead of repairing it. We had done a bit of research - electric, fat tires, fold-up - we liked Strand's design, features, ease of use, and it's smooth ride. Keith was super nice and informative. We ended up purchasing 2 and even got a few saddle bags to go with the bikes. It was key for us to go with a company that could service the bikes. Most bikes purchased online you cannot get serviced - so we do look forward to having a place to go. Highly recommend. read more

I was very impressed with the knowledge of the owner. Bikes are very high quality. purchased one a few months ago and i love it!!

So I called yesterday to fix my flat and they said it would be $35 so I went today and just because we were on a different brand than they sell, they said they couldn't do it and that they were closed when they were supposed to be open for another 3 hours. And that it would take weeks for it to be finished if I came back tomorrow when every worker was just outside on there phones doing nothing. Then a kid came up about 12 yrs old and wanted to fix his flat and because it was a different kind then there bike that they sell they turned him away and made him walk and who knows how many miles that was.
