Frank is the man. After visiting the Triathlon Lab for other problems with my secondhand bike, they recommended South Bay Cycle to true my wheels. Based on the initial phone conversation I had with Frank to the actual in-person visit, I knew I was in great hands. The customer service here is second to none and it's worth every penny and second of your time to know that you're leaving your bike in good hands. I've had my bike serviced here twice in the last half year and my experience both times were fantastic. I'll be back in the future for all problems I can't figure out for myself. Thank you, South Bay Cycle!

Love these new pedals: Can finally see where to put my feet...

This bicycle store is "breath of fresh air" compared to most other bicycle stores that I have patronized over the years in this area and Southern California. Yesterday was my second time in this shop, my first time buying something, and both times they made me feel welcome. You don't have that elitist condescending attitude here that permeates other shops. In fact, I enjoyed chatting with the employees yesterday and both Kris and Bob were very helpful in getting me what I needed. I have been in the cycling world with lot's of bikes for over 30 years and if you go around, it's not always that way: A few years ago I saved up and purchased a new $3500 bicycle. When I brought it to one shop in West LA for a derailleur adjustment, the owner looked at it and exclaimed, "junk, junk!" He yelled out, "Look at this, they put plastic in the fork--junk!" I left and took it to another shop in South Bay and the owner there, looked at the Shimano Dura Ace derailleur and put his arm around me and said, "If you would have spent a little more, you could have had a campy (Campagnolo) derailleur, now you are stuck with Shimano. He goes on, "We only believe in Campy here, I ride a Campy." You won't find that attitude here. The owner of this shop is well known and active in the cycling industry and has been in the bike business for longer than most people reading this review have been alive. This shop is small but beautiful and parking is easy and plentiful. They are in a very newish comfortable building. It's also a good location to try out a bike for purchase or check the repair after service as the parking lot in the back is flat and there are also hills in the area. They have city bikes under 1K and also very expensive road bikes from Specialized. They are a contracted Specialized dealer. They also have some cool looking electric bikes that I think were reasonably priced for what you get. The service manager has also been in the bike service business for many years. I perused the store last time and they carry some some high quality accessory lines. Because the store is small, it seems like they try to carry the best of each item category. Their retail accessory prices are reasonable. My purchase yesterday was 15% less than the same exact item at REI and less than you would pay for the same item at Amazon. Even better, they did not charge me to install the accessory on the spot! They do have a longer wait for general bike service I inquired about on the phone last week due to the crush of people cycling during the COVID closures. I had to bring my bike to another place I know in the Valley that had a 24-hour turn around for a chain install I really needed ASAP. All the employees I saw here were wearing face coverings but none are going to give you a handshake, hug or kiss as you enter the store right now due to local COVID regulations. Big thank you to everyone in the shop that helped direct me to my new cool YELLOW! pedals I picked up yesterday. (See pics.) Had Kris not been proactive in suggesting them while on the phone looking for something else I would have never known about them or that they even sell that brand. Now I can see where to put my feet to make the bike go.... When Bob told me he can install the pedals right away--I said, "You have the tools for that?" and he immediately pulled out a pedal wrench and hex driver out of his pocket and went to work. That is what I call "Service!" Check out this shop before you purchase a bike anywhere else or if you need an accessory.

bob, chris and alan are super helpful and cool. I was recommended here by the specialized sales rep in santa monica since everywhere in Southern California there's a major shortage of bikes but I happen to find my bike in my sizes! decent pricing here! highly recommended for you guys to purchase a bike here! rare gems found here.

Chris helped me make a big decision on selecting the right saddle. Went above and beyond

My husband had a little sticker shock at the register for the 26 lb weight we were buying. He took a moment because he thought it was a little less online. When he asked "and that's the total with tax?". Normally you hear back a confirmation but instead she said no with tax it's $73.62. Mind you we were at the register to pay not for a price check. My husband was looking at his phone and she blurts out "you want it or not?". We told her yes but I had to explain to her he is just taking a moment to look up the price. Normally someone at the register gives the total price when purchasing not sub total. I walked away once my husband got the receipt and was already a good ways away from the register and she yells out "Good Bye!" In the most patronizing tone. It was the cherry on top for this review. We are all human and can do better but this right here is why online shopping and self check out is putting cashiers out of jobs. Maybe she should remember that the next time she wants to be unjustifiably rude and try to make people feel less than with "you want it or not?". So if you want your intentions to be buy something rudely questioned in front of other guests than this is the place and Jaslene is your go to.

All that's left is Big 5 and Dick's. REI doesn't count, as they're too niche. This location has a lot of merchandise and it's inherent problem is the aesthetics of the layout of the store. It's way too crowded and cramped for shopping and could use an expansion and makeover where it feels well-lit and spacious. It's sort of the difference between Target and Wal-Mart. I think Big 5 could use new branding as a company. It's a good store with good prices. They do "over coupon" as Bed Bath and Beyond did. You can always anticipate a $5 off of $15 type value-pac FSI mailer coupon and almost won't shop without a coupon. It's a longterm flawed business strategy. Their prices are quite good in many ways. I went shopping for shoes and they had shoes on sale for $30-40 where I went next door to DSW and most of their comparable shoes were $50-55. You'd think DSW whose only business is selling shoes, would have a competitive edge, but it doesn't and didn't, at least for active/athletic shoes compared to Big 5. I'd say check Big 5 out first or last, but don't buy any shoes until you've visited a Big 5 like this one. Parking is fairly easy in this outdoor strip mall of sort, that has a Sizzler, Harbor Freight and other businesses.

Hello, My name is…read moreEddie Hernandez Jr., and I stopped by your location today from Pico Rivera hoping to get guidance on bringing a design idea to life. I want to be honest about my experience--not out of anger, but out of frustration and a desire to be understood. I came in explaining that I'm new to this process. I don't have technical knowledge, I don't know formats, and I'm still learning. What I do have is an idea and the drive to turn it into something real. When I was turned away because I didn't have my design in the correct format, it felt discouraging--especially after I had already explained that I'm starting from scratch and was looking for help, not just a service. I'm not expecting everything to be done for me, but I was hoping for some level of guidance or direction--something that could help someone like me take the next step forward instead of feeling shut out. This isn't just about today--it's something I've experienced often: being judged or overlooked before I even get the chance to grow or learn. I'm working hard to break that cycle. If your business offers any type of beginner guidance, design assistance, or even a direction I could take to come back better prepared, I would genuinely appreciate it. Thank you for your time, and I hope there's an opportunity to approach this again in a better way. Sincerely, Eddie Hernandez Jr.
