I went into the Triathlon Lab to get my first bike for my first triathlon in a few months. I didn't know much about bikes but the owner Robert helped me out a bunch. I explained to him what my skill level was, the course of the tri, and what my budget was and he help pick out a few bikes within my budget and had me try them out. He explained a lot of things I was unaware of going into purchasing a bike for the Tri Robert made the entire process very easy and was extremely helpful, I am excited to come back and check out the store more. read more

I came here to get a repair done on my e-bike tire that was flat. I came in a few weeks ago and asked how much would they charge and was told 20 for the inter tube and 20 for the repair cost. I thought that was awesome because everywhere else they want 80 and up. I came today with the bike and was told 20 for the inter tube and 45 for repair cost. I was vey upset because I was told different and the reason I came was because of the price. After complaining the owner Steve stepped in and offer to fix my bike at the price I was quoted before. I thought that was excellent customer service. Why loose a potential long time customer for a few bucks and a misunderstanding. I really appreciate Steve for helping me. This place is awesome they have a wide variety of options for bikes and accessories. They also have reasonable prices they have e-bikes worth a thousand or more on sale for hundreds . The customer service from the owner alone will get me to return for my future bike needs. Thank you Steve for caring about your customers you are all right with me Sir. read more

I was blown away by how incredible Triathlon Lab is and I left wondering why I didn't come here sooner!!! Robert, the owner, is not only incredibly knowledgeable but he's also beyond generous with his time and advice. I never felt rushed or pressured, just genuinely supported. You can tell he cares about the sport and the people in it. My bike also got some much needed TLC as one of the bike mechanics swapped out a tire for me - using one I brought in... They only gave me what I truly needed and never tried to upsell me. I loved checking out all that the store offers while my bike was at the spa. This was my second time using Triathlon Lab's service department, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The first time, I brought in two bikes and spent over $1,000 for upgrades, parts, and service. On one of the bikes, the shop attempted to charge me for a derailleur extender that was already installed before I ever brought the bike in. I had installed it myself when upgrading to a wider-range cassette. Since Triathlon Lab did not change the cassette, I'm still confused why they believed this was a part they added. I had to explain this to both the manager and mechanic before the charge was removed. After picking up the same bike, I immediately noticed another issue: the spacers between the two front chainrings were too wide, causing the chain to get stuck between them. I discovered this within two minutes of a simple test ride in the parking lot when the chain immediately became stuck Inbetween the front chain rings. Had the bike been properly test-ridden after service, this problem would have been obvious and could have been corrected before I arrived. The shop offered me a used 105 crank as a replacement and only charged me for labor which was appreciated. More recently, I had the shop install a set of carbon wheels on a different bike. Unfortunately, the same concern came up again. it does not appear that the bike was test-ridden after the work was completed. On my very first ride, while shifting into the lowest gear approaching a climb, the rear derailleur was pulled into the spokes and carbon fiber inner cage snapped. This is another issue that likely would have been caught with a quick gear check and test ride. I called the shop to explain what had happened and the mechanic said the bike had not been tested after the installation of the new carbon wheels because I had not requested a tuneup. This was true, but regardless, after changing anything that is critical to proper function of a bicycle, any good shop with test ride the bike to make sure nothing was wrong. The Mechanic offered to install replacement parts if I would bring them to the shop for free. However, the derailleur in question, a Dura ace RD 7900. Is no longer manufactured and finding replacement parts is very difficult. I ended up buying a "for parts" replacement and fixing the broken Derailleur myself. Their negligence cost me an additional $80 and weeks without the use of my bike. My cervelo is over 10 years old, hopefully they treat newer more expensive bikes with more time and attention. Based on these experiences, I don't feel confident returning for future service. If you do choose to use Triathlon Lab, I strongly recommend taking a careful test ride around the block afterward and checking the bike for full functionality yourself to ensure everything is working properly. read more

This is ALWAYS my last resort place to go...and today proves it. I went in for gel and a tube. No one else in there besides me. Ask me why it took 7 minutes of me standing in front as there were two guys there, one who was at the cashier when I first walked up....as 5 minutes passed, he finally makes his way back and rings me up. 10seconds it took to ring me up. These guys are the worst when it comes to customer service. I haven't been proven otherwise. Over priced products. ugh. Such horrible service. read more

Brought grandson's e-bike in with brake and kickstand issues- expected to wait thru weekend and holiday for return but had it repaired and working "as good as new" in 2 hours! Also appreciated the time they spent with my grandson (age 13) showing him what they did, explaining why and what to watch for- educating him and treating him like an adult. read more

Always a great experience for me with Robert and his team. They've replaced a tire on my scooter, and e-bike, installed a tire liner on an e-bike, adjusted brakes for a reasonable price, and most recently bought a new e-bike from them. The pricing was great! Lower than on the manufacturers website, and if anything breaks, just bring it there. Tiago spent a lot of time with my son and myself and even let us borrow a helmet so my son could ride his new bike home. 5 stars! read more

This is a good traditional bike shop . They dabble in e-bikes . But they don't think much of them and they don't ​think outside the box . I've been there many times and I'm surprised how narrow-minded they are when it comes to the use of e-bikes . They obviously dabble in bikes because there's some financial gain . Been trying to get time to check this place out. Wife needed good shoes for her Peloton Bike...ordering online sucks. For starters...they show opening time 10am...we for there slightly early and they still welcomed us in. Jerry and Howie were friggen awesome! Very knowledgeable, personable, didn't try and sell her the most expensive shoe ...but the most appropriate shoe for her needs. Asked Jerry some questions about our daughters E-Bikes...they have a huge repair area. And damn their selection of bikes and accessories is astounding. I am a heavy, tall rider. Basically I go through drive trains about once every 18 months. I had a stock MTB Bontrager rear wheel 29'er that bit the dust: rim and spokes implosion. I asked the guys at TL to build me the strongest wheel possible. I am very happy with the result. The wheel they built around a Rhyno rim feels nuke proof and has a better Shimano hub too. Strong but not overly heavy. The price was so low I felt like maybe I wasn't getting a better wheel. Boy was I wrong. Well done TL team. read more

Multiple incidents of dishonest service repairs. The shop is great for triathlon needs, but I have had too many bad experiences with the bike mechanic. Most recently he installed alloy break pads on for my carbon wheels right before a race. When I brought it back after the race he refused to fix it, saying he already spent too long on my bike for how much he charged me. I took it to Helen's and they fixed in 20 minutes while I waited for $20. For bike repairs, just go to REI or Helen's. They have better pricing and more honest mechanics. This is a real shame. I have been going to this shop for years for all my triathlon needs. Many of the staff are nice and really helpful. Had such a bad recent experience with service that I won't be going back. read more

Took my bike in for repair. I was told all repairs had taken place. My very next ride, my chain locked up on twice while going down a very steep hill! Fortunately, I did not get hurt. I returned my bike and found out the wheel was repaired but not the chain. My experience could have ended very badly. The manager at the time continued to deny that the repairs were not done, despite none of the workers recalled repairing it and the problem persisted. I was never given so much as an apology. Took my bike to another repair shop and thanked God that I was able to tell the story. read more

Brought my recent Craigslist pickup (a Rockhopper) in because one of the gear shifter brackets was pretty loose. I didn't have the tool to fix it, so I went to Tri Lab. I didn't check when they closed; so when I arrived, Robert was closing up shop. I asked if he could fix it and he said he could! It only took a few minutes, and he fixed it. No less than four employees amidst a total of two other customers even so much acknowledged me until I asked the simplest of questions about their selection of water bottles--when they did, it was obviously a chore, and I was very clearly a nuisance. I had a wonderful experience with Robert for my first ever triathlon and open water swim at Hermosa Beach. Robert took time out to answer dozens of questions I had and helped calm my nerves. Even though I was only renting some gear, Robert made me feel like he was my personal coach welcoming me into a the sport. Aside from Robert, the staff are all extremely friendly and happy to help. My wife dropped off her bike for a tune up this week and they promised her it would be finished by friday or saturday at the latest... they didnt even call until sunday afternoon to say the bike was finished. When she got to the store to pick it up, she then asked for a discount to which an old short skinny male whose name starts with a T offered up a hug as consolation... This was extremely inappropriate. The owner did offer a free future tune up but the behavior of the employee is dispicable and we will be telling our friends not to shop here as long as he works there. read more

Packet pick up for the Hermosa Beach Triathlon was stationed in the Triathlon Lab's parking lot. After pick up, I popped in with my bike for a quick check up in preparation for my race. Everyone inside was super nice and I was quickly greeted/helped. They tuned my bike up in no time - tightened things, checked my gears, oiled up my chain and made sure my tires were full of air and good to go at no cost to me. I'm super thankful because I know ZERO about bikes (despite doing triathlons from time to time). I'll definitely be coming back for any and all of my tri needs! read more

Outstanding service & support. My buddy recommended this place when I bought a beat up ebike that needed a tune-up (amd more). Being such a specialised seeming place I wondered if they'd lower themselves to my basic old plodder bike, but they were really welcoming and treated me & my bike as they would any top of the rangers. They clearly knew their stuff, gave me good honest advice on what my bike could & couldn't do, then went to work fixing & tweaking it's various issues. I got it back NEXT DAY, super smooth, and I was so impressed with both the work and the reasonable bill. I was so happy in fact that my girlfriend immediately took her old bike in for a refresh too (and was equally impressed btw). Great place, great team, highly recommended. read more

This is an updated review I have now visited and purchased from Triathlon Lab about 8 times now in the past 10 weeks now .. Initially (in my previous review) I rated this place 3 stars for the inconsistency in customer service... I had mentioned that some days it felt like a 5 star Tri Lab and on others it felt like a mediocre Joe Schmoe Bike place. I'm happy to say that my previous 3 visits (after the first 5 ) have been outstanding. I have to attribute that to 2 guys in particular. Robert, and a guy who's name I don't know but he wears a beard (Hispanic looking) man bun I think ha. Both super nice guys and have helped me in making buying decisions that allowed me to walk out the store confident in my purchase . REMEMBER, I'm new to the sport. From that lens, one can easily feel discouraged when a bike shop makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them with your questions as a consumer. Please understand that I value knowledge and experience from people who are working in this industry (I feel like that towards just about anyone that knows more about something than I do) .. So if I ask, it's basically cause I'm saying "I trust your expertise, and I also trust that you are gonna look out for me as a customer by finding the best solution for MY needs" .. Anyway. Long story short, I've raised my rating to 4 stars as a reflection of the consistent positive customer experience ... My boyfriend went in to get a bike lock. I asked my boyfriend to check to see if they have a bottle holder for my bike. The person who was helping him was super nice and showed him 3 different holders. My boyfriend FaceTimed me and showed me their coconut bottle holder. THE COCONUT BOTTLE HOLDER IS SOOO CUTE and of course I picked it, and he bought it. The holder can hold ice and has a draining hole at the bottom.
