Came here for Valentine's Day, so they had a preset menu. They were having a great deal at $50 for 2 people. It included a salad, one appetizer, 2 entrees and one dessert. The salad itself was good with a house vinaigrette. We chose the calamari as the appetizer and it was perfectly crisp. For our entrees, we ordered the salmon that came with orzo and a white wine sauce and a 10 oz sirloin that came with potatoes and broccolini. I enjoyed both of these dishes a lot and preferred the salmon, but I typically prefer seafood dishes. For dessert, we ordered the NY cheesecake which came with some fruit and it was the perfect ending to a meal. Overall, the service here was great and I enjoyed all of our food. I came here for brunch with a party of 8 on a Saturday with a reservation. This place is also street parking only. The Chicken Marsala with grilled asparagus was a nice square meal. The sauce was rich and creamy and clung to the protein and veggies super well. There was also shaved Parmesan over the chicken for extra decadence. The house salad had an interesting use of oyster sauce in the vinaigrette which was very noticeable but made the salad unique and a bold contrast with the Marsala sauce on the main. Terrible brunch. Really mediocre. We ordered the chicken and waffles and the croque madam. The croque madam was so so oily that you couldn't really taste anything else. They used a mixed shredded cheese on top instead of Gruyère that really over powered it. The bread was way too thick compared to the contents so it just kinda tasted like bread you dunked in oil and melted cheese from Costco on it in the microwave. The chicken and waffles tasted like it was cooked in really old oil and the waffles were so hard that they cut up the roof of your mouth. I came here with my friend before a show next door at the Comedy Club Seattle. Smith has a cool old timey bar and offers amazing craft cocktails. We ordered the most refreshing drink called the Lavender Empress. It was a summer delight. Not too sweet with the distinct taste of lavender. We also shared a chicken marsala that had fresh mushrooms and a light creamy sauce. We only had 45 minutes before the show, and our food came out in 15 minutes. The bartender was attentive and provided great service. The restaurant also has an outdoor area as well. I intend to return to try more menu items. First, we were charged for two coffees instead of one, unless they think top-offs are considered two cups of coffee? I was also charged for a beer that was suppose to be on my sisters tab. The breakfast was cold and not very good, and the service was very poor. Staff seemed more focused on decorating for Halloween than checking on our table or ensuring we were taken care of. On top of that, a 20% tip was automatically added, even though we were a party of five adults and one one year old, not six adults - the waitress did not deserve that kind of tip! The food was really good and we loved everything we had. I also love that their patio was dog friendly and partly covered/shaded as I burn easily but still like to be a sun lizard if I can. The servers were very kind and helpful. The only drawbacks were that the kitchen service seemed very slow. It took a long time for our food to come out. Also, the patio was great but quite dusty and it left marks on our clothes if we bumped up against tables or chairs and our dogs' paws were super dirty after. Charming neighborhood spot with a great happy hour menu. I tried the pork chop which was cooked and seasoned well and came with rich polenta and well seasoned collard greens. We went on a Wednesday and it was very easy to get a table. The restaurant has a cozy, hunters lodge feel to it which makes it perfect for catching up with friends. I'm so glad I opted for a small, since I had trouble finishing it. The poutine itself was great and came with tons of cheese curds, but I think the star of the dish was the duck confit. Okay, I am a huge fan of Linda Derschang. And though she no longer owns Smith, the new owners have really kept to the Derschang atmosphere, making this restaurant and bar quirky, fun, with elements of eclectic and old-fashioned charm. I love, love, love the vibes at Smith. My friend and I visited for Sunday brunch and we came here half an hour after it opened, which was smart because soon after we arrived, the entire place was packed. By the time we left, there was a line outside the door. Get here early, folks! Smith is a popular spot for brunch (and likely everything else). My friend and I shared the poutine, which was my favorite item! The poutine was a dish made of hand-cut fries that were smothered with gravy, thick cheese curds and a fried egg on top. We also chose to add duck confit for some meaty goodness, which is how the gravy is made. It's a heavy dish, so is great for sharing. Though, no judgements at all if you order this as an entrée because it's one of the best poutines I've ever had! For an entrée, I ordered the burger and added gruyere cheese with. Snaps that Smith offers cheese options beyond cheddar for the burger. The burger was solid and it's a hefty one at half a pound. In fact, it's served on a cutting board, so yeah, it only adds to the immenseness of the burger. However, the only issue is that I asked for it to be cooked medium rare and it sadly was overcooked. It was still juicy, but it could've been outstanding. With that said, it would've easily been a five-star review had the burger been cooked to my preference. BUT, Smith is still awesome! The food was delicious, the staff were suppppper friendly, even with how busy the place got, and I absolutely love the décor here. Yes, the toile wallpaper in the bathroom spoke to me. Really love this place. Probably my new favorite bar in Capitol Hill. It's very laid back and super clean. I came around Christmas so it was super cozy with all the decorations. The music was very chill, all around very good vibe. It was like a hipster who lived in the middle of a forest decorated a bar. I had the Brussel sprouts, burger and wings. The sprouts were incredible. The wings were good and the burger was enjoyable. The burger was great quality but I wish it was a little more flavorful. The food was beautifully plated all around. It's a little pricey but for the quality I didn't mind paying it. The service was also phenomenal. The food came out pretty quickly and all the employees I spoke with were genuinely so kind and very cool. The wait staff really tried to make it right by discounting one of our entrees (we both got the pork cutlet) but they also didn't tell us it was going to be slow. The restaurant wasn't even that crowded at that point. The worst part was that the potato salad was inedible. The potatoes tasted gross and the dressing was tasteless. The pork was perfect and so was the mustard sauce but it was really really disappointing overall. And even with the discount, still pretty expensive. I may come back and try it again, but there are a bunch of restaurants on this street that I could try instead.
