I hired them over summer 2023. I was charged $700 and left each mover (4) a $30 tip. However, once settled in my home I saw that my bed wasn't put together properly and they ripped my couch because they didn't wrap it. I was told that it would be wrapped on the truck. I called to report it. Tremaine asked me to send pictures of the damage and I did. No one ever followed up. I even stopped by the office and was told they'd tell him to call me, but they never took my number and I didn't bother to leave it because it was pointless. Don't be fooled by this company's low prices, they are very unprofessional. The movers broke countless dishes that were marked fragile because they had the boxes mixed in with regular boxes. When I seen one of the movers move my vanity WITHOUT RAPPING it he said "don't worry I got you" and I was HAD, broke my vanity beyond repair. They also scratched up my teenagers mirror dresser, she was in tears and then Bird was supposed to come back to fix everything and he never showed he just stopped responding to me. To add injury on top of insult the owner Tremaine knew about the situation and never called me back acted just as unprofessional and unbothered like his employees. I only went with this company on the strength of the previous owner John (Tremaine's Father) being my loyal customer of mine and my Auntie recommended the Black Owned Business, but my advice is to spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. I used Smith movers twice. I moved in 2017 and again in 2019. The first time I was told I could pay with a money order. When the movers arrived one of the workers said cash only. So I had to cash the money order. They began moving my belongings and I noticed one of the workers smelled like liquor. When I came back with the cash the kitchen water was running. 2 of the workers helped themselves to some gin that was there and used some glasses that weren't in boxes. I moved from a first floor one bedroom apartment to a second floor one bedroom apartment. 15 minutes away at the most. They took forever. I had to go get more cash. The second time I moved I said I will give them one more shot. I had less furniture being moved this time. They got there almost an hour late. One of the workers smelled like liquor again. They started moving my belongings to the back porch. The intoxicated one said he will let me know when the time starts. Of course he didn't say anything. Now this move was from a second floor one bedroom apartment to a third floor 2 bedroom apartment. 3 minutes away flat. They took forever moving my stuff. Then they tried to leave without reassembling my bed set ( frame and headboard). I told them they need to put it together. When I came back in they had it put together with the box spring on top and the liquor smelling mover laying on it. My mattress came the day. My guy noticed how shaky the bed was and moved the mattress and box spring AND GUESS WHAT!! MY FRAME WAS BROKE! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. They move slow and one mover is often drunk. read more

Absolutely awful service, never again! Wish I could give 0 stars. The movers took forever to move my already packed and ready to go boxes out of my apartment into their truck, and the building I was moving out of had an elevator. One of the movers had clearly been drinking prior to because we could all smell the alcohol on his breath and his behavior and language was kind of obnoxious. The movers seemed like ex-cons, whatever. They also arrived late. They forgot 2 of my items on their moving truck (2 large paintings, you can't miss them). Almost a week later I got my missing items back. They damaged one of my bookshelves and attempted to put tape on it, and didn't tell me about it. I noticed the damage the next day while I was unpacking and putting items on it. One of the legs broke off and they taped it back together with some duck tape -- a wooden bookshelf! I contacted one of the owners/managers, Calvin Smith and never received any response back from him. I called a total of 4x and spoke to some other man and he said they would reimburse me for the damage and mail me a check to replace the bookshelf. The check never came and it's never going to come because they're unprofessional and full of crap and I'm sure they never even actually mailed the check. The person I talked to kept telling me to "come pick up the check". The thing is I live on the other side of town and it's just not doable for me to drive all the way over there and back for a non-significant amount of money. I don't understand why they couldn't just mail it to me. Just the fact that their movers broke my furniture and then put tape on it shows you the lack of integrity (and intelligence) that certain individuals in this company have. Did they think I wasn't going to notice the tape?! Now my bookshelf is wobbly and I can only put so much on it or it will tip over. I had it for 1 year prior to my move and it was in excellent condition before Smith Movers broke it. We ended up paying them roughly $700 for a 4 hour move, with 3 guys. Not to mention myself and 4 other people were also moving my things along with the movers at the same time. I am done calling them in attempts to get what they owe for damaging my property -- they're not going to pay it or follow up because that's how they do business, clearly. Rating is 0. This company is very unprofessional. The day I was supposed to move, they called to say they were running late. I was scheduled for 9AM but they said maybe they could get to me at 11. Then I had to keep calling them to listen to excuse after excuse. My window to move in that day was 9AM-4PM. They never showed up. I had everything packed and the power was shut off at my current apartment because I was supposed to be moved into my new apartment. It was just one big disaster. I was now without power with a fridge full of food. Because I was moving into a senior citizen building, I had to wait 2 additional days before I could move in as they only do it on certain days. Unbelievable. I decided to call a reputable company and they were able to fit me in last minute. Thank God. Also, what is very telling is that no one from Smith Movers ever apologized to me for the terrible inconvenience I was put through. I guess it's just how they do business. Do not waste your money with this moving company. They are extremely unprofessional. I hired them for a moving job and they arrived 5 hours late...5.5 hours to be exact. They did not even tell me they had a job before me that ran over, I had to call them every hour to see what was going on. When they finally arrived the workers smelled of alcohol and had horrible attitudes. Two items of furniture were damaged during the move with no apology or offer to replace/pay for. The truck they used did not have a real roof...there was just tarp across the top, which means since it rained during the move all the boxes and furniture got wet. If you value customer service, time, and money I suggest that you use a different moving company. Do not be fooled by the inexpensive prices, just pay the extra money for a more experienced and professional company. Five years ago I used Smith Movers, and they were excellent. So, I called them again. I called a month before I had to move and set up an appointment for them to come out. On moving day they called the hour they were supposed to be there and cancelled. That was a Saturday. I had extra help and an extra truck, because I have a lot of boxes. They rescheduled to come back at 10:00 am Monday. Ten thirty Monday morning no movers. I called, and they said they had to do another small job first. Movers arrive at 11:30 am. Got an Attitude when they saw I had a lot of boxes. I pointed out to the workers to make sure they take my new rugs that were standing in the corner. They left them. I had a heavy cabinet in my kitchen. I noticed that the movers had taken everything out of the kitchen except the cabinet. So, I called to their attention that I want my cabinet on the truck. I had several arguments about the cabinet, and when I got to my new apartment I notice they did not bring my cabinet. The movers insisted that I leave some boxes because they didn't want to carry all the stuff up to the third floor. At the end of the day I'm missing a tv, an air conditioner, book shelves, and a step ladder. They broke my china cabinet, a lamp, and bent my cocktail table. One of them while we were moving suggested I should come into the truck and sit on his lap. I'm filing a police report and I'm taking them to court. I have proof of everything. The movers showed up with a 3 man team at 12 noon they looked over my stuff which was packed and ready to go and said NO we can't do this move. I use this company 3 years ago. They were very professional and took extremely good care of my items. It took 6 hours but hey I was pleased with the outcome. Needless to say I used them again to move recently. I'm so sorry I did. They arrived 5 hours late!!!!! I get it snowed. But damn 5 hours. One mover was very polite and professional the other 2 horrible. The two kept flirting asking questions if I were married or had a boyfriend. What do you not understand about doing your job? I asked specially if credit card was accepted. I was informed yes. Then at after 5 hours the driver, Fred tells me it's cash only. I'm pissed now I have to go to an ATM to draw out a large amount of money which is unsafe at night. I'm finding many of my items with glass are damaged. 2 lamps broken. A missing vase. I'm so utterly disappointed. And when this was brought to the manager's attention he did not offer an apology. In regards to the cash only, the manager stated I could have called the office. Hell how was I supposed to know. It was late as hell. The manager tried to make it seems like it's my fault I didn't call the office to confirm this. I wish I was able to give 0 stars for this company. If you value your personal belongings, I would suggest either moving your items yourself or finding a different moving company. I hired Smith Movers for a move date of May 27 to move a 3 bedroom condo literally 3 blocks away. I will give them good marks for being punctual, but that's about it. There were 3 gentlemen that showed up, one of which I soon found out was diabetic, because he was in need of sugar shortly after their arrival. The other gentleman was easily about 95lbs, so this immediately made me wonder how effective he would be at moving larger items - since one of the three men was the driver and his primary role was to watch the truck. Needless to say this move took all day long, started at 9am and ended at 5pm - which I felt was way too long for a 3 bedroom condo that only had one bedroom set, living and dining room furniture and the rest were boxes. Since my move took place over a Holiday weekend, I wasn't able to really unpack until after Memorial Day. This is when I found out that I had serious damage to multiple furniture pieces. I then contacted Tremaine (the manager) at Smith Movers, who informed me to send pictures via text and he would contact me upon review. Well a week went by and I hadn't heard anything, so I called him a couple times in which I was unsuccessful in reaching him. After those failed attempts, I tried again and reached him, in which he told me he was in receipt of the pictures, but I hadn't heard back from him stating this. I was instructed that someone would contact me in regards to coming out and accessing the damage.... still waiting. I also discovered that we have a box missing, the contents in the box were mostly jewelry items. Now, I can't confirm with 100% certainty that the employees are responsible for this "missing box", but I can say that a lunch break was taken - that we were not aware of, until I showed up at my new address expecting the truck to be there waiting for me; instead I received a phone call 15 minutes later stating they stopped for lunch. I don't know if this is a common practice with moving companies, but I have a HUGE problem with ALL of my personal belongings being out of my site for at least 45-minutes. 0 stars! CAUTION: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. This company does not know how to do good business. My roomate and I hired this company for two separate dates. On the day of my roommates move they arrived an hour late saying they were down the street which was NOT the case. When it came time for me to move they were 3 hours late! I kept calling to find out where they were, the manager said 5 minutes away. Completely lying through his teeth. After 3 hours I called to cancel and finally the men showed up. One was very apologetic which I greatly appreciated. But he was the only one. I called back to try to reschedule with them as my lease was up and I didnt have time to find another mover. I called the manager asking him to accommodate me for another day to which he responded "we are booked" and then offered one available time slot which was impossible for me to schedule considering i already took off work to schedule the last appointment. I told him they should be more flexible since they dropped the ball and they were close to 3 hours late. The managers response, "OH WELL, WE GOT THERE DIDN'T WE?" Never again. I went with Smith Movers when I was moving to my new apartment in the summer because they gave a good price and were available. I had to change the date and time of my moving date last minute, and they were still able to do it. I had to move late at night, and I asked if they are still going to be open then. The man on the phone said something like "we don't close until we finish the job." I was very grateful, because they were probably the only moving company at that point who can help me move in such short notice at 8pm (something like that) with a good price. My experience with Smith Movers was a rollercoaster of good and bad: They were almost an hour late, and I was growing impatient and felt like this moving experience was going to suck. When they finally came though, they were FAST. It was really like BOOM BOOM BOOM, done, we were in the truck ready to go to the new apartment. Oh yea, one of the movers broke the leg of one of my furniture, but it was a mirror that could still look good without legs so I told him to just take out the other leg. There were 2 movers and 1 driver who also helped out. The guys were really friendly and funny and I didn't care that they were late anymore. When we got to the new place the guy reassembled my bed as quickly as he disassembled it. I moved from a studio to a 2 bedroom and the whole process took less than 2 hours. I thought it was great and I was feeling happy, and then I realized they have left one thing in their truck. It was a floor cleaner-mop thing that was more than $50 so I wanted it back. I called them up and told them that something was left in the truck, and the person told me that he will contact me later. Multiple phone calls happened after that where the guy said someone will come drop it off tomorrow, but that never happened until around 2 weeks later. I understand that they are busy and that they might not have the time to drop it off. But it was kind of annoying having to deal with it and having to call them back again and again to follow up on when I can have my mop back. When I first move into a new apt, I want to clean the floors -- it was dusty and I needed the mop! I feel like the movers should have double checked the truck to be sure that nothing was left in there. But anyways, they did return it so I guess that's what counts. I rated them 4 stars because they weren't perfect, but if it weren't for them, I would have been much more stressed about my moving situation during that night. The Worst. Find a professional company, not these people. On a Tuesday in April of 2017 I called and scheduled a move for the upcoming weekend. The gentlemen that I spoke with was very polite and told me that I could either have Friday at 1PM or Saturday morning. I wanted to have some of the weekend to unpack so I asked for Friday afternoon and took vacation time from work to accommodate this. The gentlemen also called back to confirm my appointment on Thursday. When I got home from work (early) Friday I received a call stating that the movers would be there later than expected because the move that they were working on experienced issues with the elevator. Completely understandable. I was given a new time of 2:30-3:00PM. The professionalism ended here. The movers arrived as promised during the reschedule but they were less than courteous. As they walked up to my building they looked unhappy to be at work, and less happy to be paid to do the job that they were hired to do. When they entered my apartment, they stated that "this looks like a job that should be done first thing in the morning". The lead mover, who did not appear healthy enough for work, said that they could do it that day but it would be better if they did it in the morning. As the other two movers discussed how much money they would make from this job my wife and I pondered the other things that we could accomplish by letting them do it early in the morning. I didn't want my items destroyed by tired/Lazy movers so I agreed to have them return early the next day. The movers repeatedly stated that earlier was better and that they could arrive as early 8am. We agreed on 9 am. When 9:15am came and went I saw no truck and heard no diesel engines. I received no phone call from them. I called them and got the voice mail. I was able to call another company last minute and got some GREAT!!!! movers. Smith Movers finally called me at 1pm and asked if they could still do the job. Um, no.
