3.5 stars to be exact. Family night out and we didn't know where to go, so we roam around in Burbank and I remember reading reviews saying Smashed burger is one of the best burgers in LA. So, I thought, let's go try it!! We walk in, no one is at the counter. We need to talk to someone before ordering anything about my daughters allergies and we waited. A line is building up behind us. Finally an employee came to assist. We ask about allergies, she has no clue. First thought - Time to leave this place, workers don't know and don't care. So I get into specifics, oils they use, sauces, etc. She get some info and then says "just don't add sauces to whatever you order." Ummmmmmm... Sauces usually makes the food much better. So we ask again if she can go find out... she walks away borderline rolling her eyes as if we are asking for too much. She comes back and we are in the clear to order. So I order the double burger combo, I order two fries, and my daughter orders a sing burger combo with bacon. She asks if she wants lettuce. So it's our first time, we have no clue what's in the burgers. We think it's a normal burger. Well you need to order lettuce. So I tell her to order lettuce for mine also. She repeats the order and only inputs the single burger and double burger combos, forgets the two fries. Finally we get it right, and awaiting to try this! Food comes out and the burger is the size of the palm of my hand. I didn't expect it to be that small, but whatever. I take my first bite, and I have to say it's GOOD burger! It's a very tasty burger! It's also very light, it doesn't sit heavy, which probably indicates that they don't use a lot of heavy oils. Had the fries, which we all agreed tasted good as well. Food was pretty spot on! I don't know if I would go to the extent of the best burger in LA, but I would say that it definitely is one of the better burgers I've tasted. So why 3.5 stars? Cause their service lacks heavily. When you see people who look at the menu confused and are asking questions, have a "let me tell you about your burgers" introduction. Put a smile on your face..? The menu stated 12.75 for single combo, ended up paying for $19.99 due to the add-ons and 4% card charge. Add-ons (i.e., lettuce, tomatoes) are typically standard items you would find in a burger, but this place charges $7 + 4% up charge for buns, meat, and sauce. Staff is nice. Came here last night with my boyfriend because I was craving some burgers! We ordered 2 smash me triples (we did one as a combo) and I also ordered 1 single, as well as 2 whole jalapeños. All I have to say is that they were so delicious!!!! Honestly, I could have eaten 2-3 triples on my own. Next time I go, I'll probably ask if they can do a 4x4 LOOOLLL... The fries were nice and crispy, and the jalapeños were so bomb. We got some spicy ones and it just paired so well with the secret sauce. I'm not really sure how much the prices are for other "smash burger" places, but in comparison with in-n-out, I do think it's a little bit more pricey. However, for me personally, I'm willing to pay a little extra for the convenience that it's down the street from where I live, no crazy line, and equally delicious food, plus the jalapeños. On my first visit several months ago, I walked away after I tried the front door and thought it was locked. They have a pull handle for a door that didn't pull (you have to push), and they had no stickers (like they should) to say PULL/PUSH. I later realized that i didn't try to open inward, but I already had takeout from another burger place. I recently noticed they now have the proper door stickers, but as i was sitting waiting for my order, I noticed many other people trying to pull the handle. I love the interior design. It has an interesting retro look with a lot of classic/hip things from the good ol' 90s. The service, however, is always terrible (last 3 visits). They have some young kids working there who have absolutely no experience in customer service. They don't even give you a simple greeting. The food was decent, but WAY overpriced! The "seasoned" fries is barely seasoned at all... they just sprinkle a little bit of their flavorless red seasoning. All things considered, I won't be going here again. THIS PLACE ROCKS! I LOVE IT! If you're a fan of In-N-Out animal style burgers, you'll love this place too. Their default burgers are basically upscale In-N-Out animal style burgers. They're incredibly delicious and my mouth is watering now just thinking about it. Food is delicious. Service is friendly. Atmosphere is casual. My only complaint is the prices. Even though everything everywhere is expensive these days, the prices are ultimately high. I loved what I got but $10 for basically a slightly larger In-N-Out double-double is too much. I left hungry and kicking myself for not getting a triple ($13). If the store was closer to me and not so pricey, I'd be there all the time. They make really really good burgers. They had a lot of options to choose from. We ordered a smashed burger meal and added a second burger on since there was 2 of us. Burger was very flavorful, not greasy and was very fresh. First off, the woman working the register was so helpful and friendly. There were a couple people ahead of us in line, so we decided to order using the self-service tablet near the counter. The food was priced appropriately when compared to other burger restaurants of similar quality (i.e. The Habit, Hook Burger, The Stand, The Counter, etc.). For two adults and a toddler it cost around $37-$38 which is what I've come to expect. I got the double smash burger and it was fantastic. Highly recommended. Honestly, it rivaled some of the best burgers I've had around Southern California. We got a grilled cheese for our son and that too was amazing. It's all in the name, these burgers are smashed. Excellent and classic example of a smash burger. My only complaint about the burger is that it's a bit too soft. The bun, the patties, even the pickles somehow worked together to create a very soft consistency. My recommendation is to either get a slightly harder bun, larger pickle slices, or maybe crisp up the patty, because there needs to be a little variety in texture. The loaded fries are not worth it. Prices went up since my original visit and since it was already on the pricey end, a bit tough to warrant the higher prices just a month or two later, despite rising costs as they were already charging a premium. The burgers were still good with extra cheesy bites since they use 2 slices of cheese in the double. The flavor goes well if you use the extra sauce to dip the burger as it can be a bit dry otherwise. Fries still on point and great for being fresh cut. While I did enjoy their breakfast burritos as a change of pace from another popular local spot, since they no longer serve breakfast, I'll probably be visiting them less since can't justify the cost with the other burger options around. read more
